I had no interest in its two female leads, Alyson Michalka (from the music group Aly & AJ) or her co-star, the acidic personality of Ashley Tisdale.
While I have yet to meet Michalka, I have had the downright vomit inducing misfortune of meeting Ms. Tisdale. This SHOULD make me not ever give the show even a remote chance.
Add in its produced by Tom Welling, Mr. Hate-everyone...and it should be a slamdunk.
But then theres a case to be made for 1 of its male lead stars. Matt Barr.
Barr, who has a lengthy resume of 1 offs & a couple short regular stints on One Tree Hill & Harper's Island of 7 & 13 episodes respectively has tried his damnedest to try & win over fans for the show & himself.
Even tonight, he went out of his way to come over at the hotel to the 4 hounds & paps hanging around & chat with them for over 5 minutes. He truly enjoys being considered a celebrity. He is happy for the attention...and thats how it SHOULD be.
Matt understands its best to win over the people you will likely have to see on a regular basis. While his co-star has been seen getting into a full out SPRINT to evade 1 pre-teen kid with a High School musical dvd to get signed, Barr did the exact opposite. Interacting & even encouraging the pros to shoot him if they see him.
Matt Barr realizes something. That something is...if he plays the cards right, he COULD get a big break by being great to the fans & pros up here. In Los Angeles, where he had 1000s of celebs & pseudo-celebs to compete with, that break was less likely. However, up in Vancouver, where the competition to be the "in" person is lessened, that chance could exist. Its a town thats helped elevate or outright made stars out of Johnny Depp, Richard Dean Anderson, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Tom Welling, Jessica Alba, Jared Padalecki & Jensen Ackles just to name a few. All of them saw their stock rise sharply after stints in Vancouver. With less attention for the media spotlight, they were able to flourish & grab some much needed spotlight... granted in a smaller market, but its better than no attention in a bigger market. They have all played the game & won. Barr is now also playing the game, and hoping to strike similar gold.
He is one of those guys, you root for to be successful...because he truly will appreciate it if it happens.
I am not sure if I will like Hellcats, but I know one thing. It will at least get a chance to win me over...despite doing everything it can to push me away with its other cancerous cast & producer. There is only ONE reason I will give Hellcats a try....his name is Matt Barr.
Attached, a handful of photos from when Matt was in town shooting the pilot for Hellcats. The production is back in town continuing to shoot for season 1 after getting picked up for the Fall schedule on The CW. Hellcats premieres September 8th.
NOTE- I have left some of the photos un-tagged except for my website tag at the top or the bottom. If you re-post these, please either leave that tag on, or at least have the courtesy to post "Canadagraphs" as the source.
I am fine with them being used on blogs & sites. Just long as there is some acknowledgement of where they came from,
