THIS POST CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 220 "Seeing Red". If you do not want to read or view spoilers for this episode, do not continue. . . . Last warning . . Been awhile since I stumbled across an Arrow set. I had not come across a set for Arrow in about a month it seemed. Despite it being a tad chilly, late & even raining a smidge, I opted to head to this set & was not disappointed from what I saw on 2 fronts. First, I finally got autographs from former The Killing star & now Arrow star Bex Taylor-Klaus on some Arrow photos. I had not seen Bex since running into her while she filmed her 1st appearance on Arrow. It isn't till you see Bex on set, being hyper & energetic that you remember this girl is only 19 years old, barely in her 2nd year of TV acting, as her acting on both The Killing where she 1st gained attention & now on Arrow would suggest someone with more years in the industry. Wish I had a better camera, to have caught the photos of her playing around with the prop broken arrow, pretending to catch it infront her face like Malcolm Merlyn, or her using it as a baseball bat, perhaps envisioning herself playing for her hometown Atlanta Braves. The other cool thing, was seeing scenes with Colton Haynes as Roy Harper doing what Roy does best, be angry. I dont know what preceded the scene I saw filmed, but Roy was being stopped by a couple cops as Sin came up the street towards where the confrontation was happening. In the scene Roy is walking with a broken arrow (you know, like any regular person does) when the cops see him & tell him to drop the arrow. The cops foolishly move in towards Roy with the guns drawn, and a series of quick strikes by Roy to the pair of the cops sees them both fall to the ground after Roy attacks them with just his arrow & his hands. From behind the cruiser Sin watches on as Roy makes quick work of a pair of Starling City's finest before he runs off. The stunt scenes actually had Colton Haynes do a bunch of the work himself, but his stunt double Curtis Bracconier did much of the physically demanding part of the scene. They interchanged so often theres a few shots below that I only sort of know which of them it is, so I haven't labeled all the photos. After that scene, Bex wrapped for the night, then Colton did a scene where he comes running out of a parkade & runs down the street thru traffic. I also have some video of Colton/Curtis filming the scene that I will post eventually. But for now, here are the photos from the night. Arrow airs Wednesday nights on The CW in the U.S. & CTV in Canada.

The CW vigilante action show ARROW shot scenes for episode 217 "Birds Of Prey" with several cast3/3/2014 THIS BLOG CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 17 OF SEASON 2 Of "ARROW". If you do not want to see/read any spoilers prior to the episode. Please do not read the article or view the photos below. . . . LAST CHANCE . . A very cold early February night, I caught the cast of Arrow filming scenes for episode 17 of season 2, "Birds Of Prey" on Homer Street. Both interior & exterior shoots were done, including scenes in a court room & outside in a courtyard upstairs that I couldnt see in the early part of the day. As night time came, they moved to outside to shoot in the -4C chilly Vancouver air. They did a scene in an alley that I was unable to see because of all the crew huddled around that I THINK consisted of Caity Lotz and Stephen Amell, both in their alter ego attires. Interestingly, as open as Degouw was about letting me photograph her in her mask, Caity was the exact opposite, The 1st scene was 1 of Oliver walking up to a gaggle of cops, special forces personnel out on the street in front of the "Starling City Courthouse". Paul Blackthorne as Quentin Lance was also in the scene. Because of the terrible vantage point for the scene, I never could see much of what it entailed, just that Oliver is on the phone & walks around a police cruiser. The 2nd scene after that I saw was with 2 ladies that you never expected to probably be sharing a scene. Jessica DeGouw, who I saw earlier in the day in her Huntress uniform & even posed for a photo in her mask had traded it in for a cop uniform. She was forcibly escorting Katie Cassidy (Laurel) at gunpoint out of my view in the scene, pressumably into a police cruiser, or away from the crowd of cops who seemed oblivious to this going on. I also saw Caity Lotz on set this day in her Black Canary mask but she didn't want to be photographed in it, so I didn't....so its going to be a masktravaganza episode it seems. I managed to get autographs on this day from Stephen, Katie, Caity & Jessica. I think that's a season 2 record for people I got on an Arrow set. Arrow is airing new episodes every Wednesday on the CW in the U.S. & CTV in Canada. Birds Of Prey episode is currently scheduled to air March 26th, 2014. Arrow shot some scenes in East Vancouver 1 evening a couple months ago at Heritage Hall (which has been used by lots of film crews... including Arrow). Arrow is also up for several of our Best Of TV Awards 2013 A couple months ago, I caught Arrow filming near my house (its actually been happening A LOT this season). On this particular day, they were filming scenes in 4 spots throughout the day for episode 209 "Three Ghosts", the mid-season finale. A garage across the street that was all tented up to keep the light out was used for some scenes that included some Starling City PD. Roger Cross & Paul Blackthorne did scenes in there with several other Officers. This was of course the scene we now know as where Lucas Hilton is killed. Meanwhile, across the street they had scenes shooting with Kevin Alejandro & a bunch of people inside the Chapel Arts building. Later in the evening, they shot scenes in front of the Patricia Hotel with David Ramsey walking into the hotel to talk to a desk clerk while Stephen Amell's character (played by his stunt double Simon Burnett in these takes) sat in the car. Later, a scene at the back end of the hotel had Diggle (played by his stunt double Sylvesta Stuart) jumping off outside stairs onto the ground. I caught a few of the practice takes earlier in the day, but by night time, there was too much equipment in the way & lighting was so bad that I didnt get any shots of the actual stunts. Arrow airs every Wednesday on The CW in the U.S. & CTV in Canada as part of their AmellWednesdays with The Tomorrow People. THIS BLOG POST CONTAINS MINOR & MAJOR SPOILERS FOR "ARROW" EPISODE 205. If you do not want to know anything prior to the episode airing, do not read the article or view the photos below. A couple months ago I photographed "The Black Canary" on set. At the time, I had no clue who it was. As it turned out, it was the stunt double for the recently cast new Sarah Lance (who btw looks NOTHING like Jacqueline Macinnes Wood.. the original Sarah Lance), Caity Lotz. Finally, on a late end of August night, I saw Caity Lotz in person filming... and what a scene I stumbled onto. On this particular night, I managed to find Ms. Lotz filming scenes with Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance, Sarahs father). The scene? Sarah lets her father know shes alive! It took place on a quiet street in the Downtown Eastside mere feet from where I saw Supernatural filming scenes a few weeks earlier. This time, as Starling City. A scene for episode 205 titled "League Of Assassins" the scene has Quentin walking to his car, seeming pleased with himself over something, till he realizes someones coming up behind him. He slyly slides his gun out & quickly turns around, gun drawn & points it at the person. As the mysterious person comes from the dark street into view, the shocked Quentin Lance sees a face that he cant & immediately, doesn't believe. Its his daughter, Sarah. She motions to him & closes in on him, eventually getting close enough to put her hand on his gun & push his hand down. After Quentin accepts who it is, a large emotion filled hug takes place between the two, and you can hear Quentin mutter "your mother was right". A little later, another set of scenes was done. This time, Caity was off for the rest of the night. It was now Felicty Smoak doing scenes with Quentin Lance, as Emily Bett Rickards showed up to film scenes. Emily & Paul did scenes where Felicity stands on a street corner waiting for Quentin to return home from a shift. As he approaches, she rushes up to him & eagerly tries to get his attention about a matter that she says has his life in jeopardy. I couldn't hear all the details, but she brings up Malcolm Merlyn in the conversation. It ends with Quentin closing the door on Ms. Smoak & her speaking at him thru the door "so I guess you aren't leaving town?". What can the mysterious trouble for Quentin be? I saw some details for their next day of work, and I can say... its either confusing me to no end, or really interesting how they are playing it. All I will say is, it includes Oliver & Sarah at the Queen Mansion being attacked by... someone (not gonna say who) & the scene takes place prior to the scene where Sarah talks to her dad photographed below. Apologies to anyone who feels ripped off that these FREE photos are sometimes grainy/blurry. I do this with a $500 camera, not a $5000 camera remember. Arrow returns on The CW for season 2, October 9, 2013. THIS POST CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS FOR A SEASON 2 EPISODE. If you do not wish to read or view any spoilers prior to the airing of the season, please do not continue. . . . last warning . . In a rare event, I found the Arrow set & no Stephen Amell on set. Seriously, this is actually possible. On this particular day, I found Colton Haynes (aka - Roy Harper ) doing scenes with someone I was very familiar with from her great job doing a previous role on another Vancouver show "The Killing", Bex Taylor-Klaus. Till that day, it was a mystery who Bex was going to play. I had known for several days she was here, but didn't know what role, or frankly, till the day before, even what show the 19 year old rising star was here for. But after she was photographed by several people on set that day, The CW decided to confirm Bex was on the show, to play the character of SIN...which I'm happy with, as I said, I have already seen what she brings to the table acting wise. But some whiny fanboys on tumblr got their panties in a knot over this because apparently Sin is supposed be Asian. Well, I don't recall there being something that stated they had to cast the role for the show the way comic books portrayed them. Honestly, if their life is so ruined because of who got cast in a T.V. show for a character that most casual fans are unfamiliar with or barely know, then they really need to re-assess their lives. Funny random moment of this day was when I went up to get Bex to sign some photos & she instantly recognized me from when she saw me around for "The Killing". When I asked her she instantly said "your Canadagraphs?" & I told her yes & that it was nice to finally meet (since the 1st two times I saw her I didn't even know her name yet). Colton took photos with a few fans & Bex even offered to be the photographer for these encounters. The scenes I saw show were of Roy seemingly chasing after, or running along with Sin thru the streets of Starling City. Later on I saw Roy doing more scenes where it looked like he was delivering something somewhere...but couldn't see enough of it to know for sure. On the lunch break, the other unit for the show came over to the food trucks for their meals & I saw David Ramsey, Caity Lotz & Emily Bett Rickards there briefly before they jetted away back to their other location. There will be more Arrow photos from other sets throughout the season. For now, enjoy these & if you want to see other sets from this season & last year, check out the rest of my blog posts here I give you Roy Harper & Sin....... I managed to catch up to the cast & crew of ARROW filming 2 days in a row, and in a rare event, I didnt get much from either shoot. Back in the end of July I found them in 2 different spots on consecutive days. Day 1 was in a make-shift studio in East Vancouver, so there was not much to see outside of some of the cast & their stunt doubles walking around. While I know Stephen Amell & his stunt man Simon Burnett, Kelly Hu & her stunt woman & former CFL star Tommy Europe (he has done stunts on lots of shows...maybe Michael Jai White's stunt man?) were all on set, I have ZERO knowledge what the scenes were. Day 2 was a night shoot in an area of East Vancouver that screams Glades stand in with its abandoned looking facade. On set that night were again, Stepehen & Simon, Kelly & her stunt woman, and Michael Jai White (aka - Ben Turner aka - Bronze Tiger) & a stunt person for Michael (couldnt tell if it was Tommy). We never got to see the scene done in 1 full take, so all I know is what pieces we did see. Arrow rolls thru the ghetto looking warehouse area on his bike, throws some type of flash grenade. Then a fight scene with Arrow VS China White & Bronze Tiger. What happens next is uncertain, because the next scene we were moved away as the camera would be shooting down the street, but we know it ends with China White hitching a ride on the back of a FEMA truck. Several fans waited around to see the shoot. Stephen Amell came over & met the fans at 1 point, signing autographs & taking photos with them. Kelly Hu on the other hand? Ignored everyone, even when asked specifically by someone less than 15 feet from her. Heres hoping The Hood ends her run on the show soon. I have some video of 1 of the scenes they shot, I just dont have the time right now to post it. Someday soon perhaps. |
