Day 2 of TIFF started out pretty miserable. At the time I didnt realize it would be my best outing ever.
The day started with me realizing I had taken out my Olivia Newton-John photo, as I didnt think it was needed anymore...only to find out she was the first press conference of the day....so instead I had to get a photo signed for someone else, instead of just standing there looking bored. There was a bit of a gap till the next press conference. This time it was for "The Town" with Ben Affleck, Jon Hamm, Blake Lively & Jeremy Renner. That was when the bad luck started. I managed to get 1 "B" from Affleck, but Hamm didnt sign much, and Lively skipped over the section I was in as she went in. Jeremy Renner was the biggest jerk of the bunch, he didnt sign going in or coming out & didnt even acknowledge people. Next up as Robert De Niro, Milla Jovovich, Edward Norton & Frances Conroy. The worst signer was again, the least known. Frances Conroy. She didnt even touch a pen, nor even look at people. Edward Norton was not too much better, but at least signed a few. Robert De Niro was a good signer, unfortunately, not everyone got one.... including me. Theres photos out there of him signing for the crowd & you can see my item right there in the mix, he just didnt go a little more to the left unfortunately. I got a consolation prize in Milla Jovovich, as the Resident Evil cutie signed 1 for me upon leaving. After 3 press conferences...3 autographs. Not too excited about that output. There would be a lull till the evening when the premieres started. First up was Daydream Nation with Kat Dennings, Josh Lucas & Rachel Blanchard. I had nothing for Blanchard, but she was a very willing signer for those who asked, and even chit chatted with some. Josh Lucas came over & signed for us almost immediately upon arriving & seemed to sign a fair bit afterwards as well. Kat Dennings signed most of the way down the red carpet and was stopping to do photos with fans when asked. Next up would be the major score of the fest for me. Passion Play with Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox & Billy Murray. While the miserable Murray avoided sharpies, he did take 1 guys photo & bite it & hand it back..the guy seemed thrilled with it. But that was all Murray did, no autographs, no photo ops. Mickey Rourke was next up, although his autograph often is nothing more than random squiggles, he signed a tonne, not missing anyone anywhere. He did photo ops with those who asked & even chit chatted a bit about this film & how it stood up to The Wrestler. All in all, he was an epic class act. Lastly was Megan Fox with her boyfriend Brian Austin Green. While BAG did get asked a few times & obliged, Fox was the main attraction & probably spent 20+ minutes signing on the red carpet. Although most of the autographs were very unspectacular, she at least did them. I might not be a fan of her work, and think shes grossly overhyped for looks, she is at the least, a class act with fan interaction. Last but not least was the premiere for Super. The Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page & Liv Tyler film turned out to be not too bad for me either. I managed 2 each from the 3 stars, despite the fact Wilson maybe only signed for a 1/3 of those who asked him. Liv Tyler was the class of this film, signing right up till she was going in the door. Ellen page was good as well, but probably left some people without. My final total for the day was 28 autographs..My highest total ever in a day at TIFF. Celebrity grades A++ Megan Fox A+ Mickey Rourke A Kat Dennings A Josh Lucas A Rachel Blanchard A- Ben Affleck B+ Liv Tyler B+ Olivia Newton-John B Milla Jovovich B- Ellen Page B- Blake Lively C+ Edward Norton C Rainn Wilson C Chris Cooper C Robert De Niro C- Jon Hamm F FrancesConroy F Bill Murray F Jeremy Renner

Today marked the start of the Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was my first day of hounding the event, and the results were to say the least, unspectacular for me.
My first film fest I finished day 1 with a whopping 4 autographs. This film fest, I finished with a sadly unspectacular 4 autographs as well. On the bright side, 1st TIFF I only got 2 people that day, where as this time I got 4. My day started late, and by the time I got to where I planned to start I had already missed 1 guest, David Schwimmer. I had nothing for Ross Gellar, just as I didnt in 2007 as well when he was also here for a film then. However, its never a good feeling knowing your missing something. A little while later the next star would be arriving. Clive Owen. Mr. Owen was miserable & mute, as he wandered a couple hundred feet thru the 10-15 autograph hounds & paps at the airport. He never spoke, he never reached for a pen & had a look on his face that one hound related to "he looks like his mother just died". Every film festival has assholes, and Clive Owen has shown unequivocably that he is one. There was again a bit of a lull, and then action broke out, in 2 different spots. It was a pick your poison. At 1 end was Josh Lucas, the other end Kat Dennings. My side had Dennings, and I managed to get 1 autograph..and probably could have got a 2nd if I just had a little luck getting thru the crowd of people that were everywhere. Those of us that got Dennings quickly returned to the side where Lucas had signed to see what else might be up. It wasnt long till Entourage star Kevin Dillon came thru & signed a small handful. His lackey/friend was chirpy & griping about us asking Kevin, but Kevin signed some. Although it was evident that Mr. Dillon wasnt excited about doing it..he did, even still signing right before he got into his awaiting vehicle. A while would pass before the final success of the evening at the airport would happen. Canadian cutie Ellen Page came thru & signed about 10-15 autographs along her block long walk thru the terminal. Often declining, Page did pick & choose a few spots to sign 1 here or there for people that she felt confident hadnt got 1 yet. From there, I hastily rushed to get downtown for the premieres going on. First up was the very Canadian film Score: A Hockey Musical. With music stars Olivia Newton-John and Nelly Furtado there, the crowd was thick. I showed up JUST as Olivia was being interviewed, and shortly after she came over & signed a small handful of autographs along the red carpet. Far short of most though, as she maybe signed 20 or so for the crowd of a couple hundred. I got shutout on her, but minutes later Nelly Furtdado showed up, andgot out of her towncar right infront of where I was standing. She came over, and signed an even smaller handful than ONJ did, and luckily, 1 of them was my item. My night ended with only 4 autographs & 2 failures. My grades for the interaction of the stars I saw today B+ Kat Dennings B Kevin Dillon B- Ellen Page C+ Olivia Newton-John C Nelly Furtado F Clive Owen When I have more time (maybe not till TIFF is over) I will add a few pics from the day. Two firsts happened today.
I got autographs from Misha Collins. I have met him twice, before I was a fan of the show & didnt know who he was yet. So I never had anything for him to sign those times. Now I did, and he happily did them all & I got a picture with him. Of all the cast they have had come in & go out on this show, he is probably my 2nd favorite cast member behind Jensen. So this was pretty exciting for me. The interaction was breif, as he was just on his way to set as we got him, but he took time to sign for 2 of us, on multiple items, did a photo with & even chatted breifly with us. I asked him what he thought of this character when he first saw the idea for him, he said it looked fun. I got shots of scenes of Supernatural. I have met the cast on multiple occasions each...but never have I got pics of them on set, and definitely never in a scene. The fact that 3 of the 4 most notable cast members on the show were there for it was extra nice. So often I go to sets where only 1 or 2 of the main cast are there, so having most of the main cast in 1 spot was nice. Although it was impossible to really shoot them all in 1 frame, without looking like ants...still great to get them all at 1 scene. Below are the pics from todays shoot.... the next few paragraphs will have possible (not entirely confirmed in some cases) spoilers...so DO NOT read on if you want a spoiler free life..... Spoilers ahead. Are you ready?? Ok. So all I know is the Winchester boys are together for this scene and were looking down out of a 3rd story window that was broken after a scene that was shot where someone jumped out the window. Below was Castiel laying ontop of a green screen type object. he gets up from the screen and stares up towards where the boys would be looking down from. Reports I heard from those on the set prior to me showing up is 2 stunt persons did a jump out the window earlier onto a car (the car shown caved in in my pics). I dont know for certain if Castiels character was 1 of the 2 who jumped, but judging by the scene he was shooting when I got there, this may be the case. The other individual, (show in the suit in the pics) was also apparently in the jumping scene according to those on the scene before I got there. I do not know if he was a stunt double, or the actor in the scene. All in all, all thats really know is...someone jumped out a window, the Winchesters looked down at whoever it was as the hit a car...Castiel may or may not have been 1 of them, as he was filming a scene getting up from the spot where the fall happened. Hellcats star Matt Barr arrives with Smallville star Tom Welling..who SIGNED for me finally7/30/2010 Last night, something happened that no one expected...least of all me.
Tom Welling. The man I have criticized on multiple occasions in here for being less than pleasant cracked a little bit. Proof of such- HE SIGNED FOR ME!! Yes naysayers, I can hear you already hastily typing out your anger filled rants at me & telling me how this proves I was wrong blah blah blah. I will give the man some dues. He signed, and although he certainly didnt look pleased to be doing it, he still did it. I do chalk up the fact he was with company on having some impact on his decision. Even if you are the boss, sometimes you have to play the role of good guy. He was with Matt Barr, a star on the new CW show Hellcats that will be coming soon to your televisions. It is produced by Welling & the pair were coming back from a trip to promote it in Los Angeles on Thursday. Matt, for those of you unaware of who he is yet. Is one of the nicest, friendliest celebs there is. He sincerely is a nice guy. I joked with him that he must be my good luck charm, because that was the first time Tom had signed for me in 10 yrs. he had a good chuckle & said something along the lines of I should stick around him then. I was so shocked by Welling's unexpected decision to sign the same item he declined just 72 hrs earlier that I really kinda flubbed much of any chance to get shots of the pair as they made their way out. I snapped a couple pics on the move as they said their good-byes, this is the best of the two (other one was VERY blurry).... Sorry Tom fans, but its the only pic from last night. No hat. No glasses. Wish he could just be like this everytime. That is two times in 72 hrs Tom signed for someone. In Vancouver, this is absolutely unheard of. Maybe knowing its his last season he is starting to slowly crack that unwilling persona hes shown here all these years. Because of his sudden turn, I have dropped Tom from 2nd worst celeb, all the way down to 9th. if this pattern continues, he might erase 10 years of negativity before the season ends & end up off my worst list all together. For the record, with Mr. Welling signing for me finally...this leaves Allison Mack as the ONLY regular cast member who has never signed for me now. So, heres a pic without any cross body tags for once. And the FINALLY signed magazine that I have dragged around for 10 years...which, barring a private sale, will be in my autograph gallery sometime soon. **In my review of this, I have given some very minor info on details that happen in the on stage show...but I have done as much as I can from explaining too much...if you want to know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the show, do not read this....otherwise...continue**
For 3 days, the biggest name in the talk show industry currently not talking on a talk show, was in Vancouver, Canada for 2 performances. Of course, I am talking about Conan O'Brien, the ostracized funny man, and former host of the Tonight Show... who will be returning to television later this year with a program for relative newbie in the talk show game, TBS. "Coco", as his fans have labelled him during his tumultuos battle with his former station that I refuse to acknowledge, brought himself, his sidekick Andy Richter, as well as his band and several others like his writer turned skit performer Deon Cole & opener Reggie Watts on his 32 city tour thru the U.S. & parts of Canada. For avid Conan fans, this night was a near dream come true. For casual fans, it was still an amazing show. Even the one middle-aged (40s/50s) lady who was with a friend who knew him, but she did not, was thoroughly impressed calling it "some of the funniest stuff I have seen". His show, without giving out too many of the punchlines, contained a variety of Conan based materials. He had the Masturbating bear there...who has now transformed into the Self-Pleasuring panda, a video skit featuring Triumph the Insult Comic dog, who used his style of humour to poke fun at the city (thru dubbed in voice overs that made the skit even funnier), its people and other things. As well, The Walker Texas Ranger lever was in town, now known as the Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle, which ended with the classic clip of "Walker told me I have AIDS" clip. He had a variety of chatter with sidekick Andy Richter, who also did 2 impromptu "commercials" for local Vancouver establishments that were, to say least comical & degrading the products. Deon Cole did a few minutes of his stand up, and of course the band played a few songs. Reggie Watts did an exceptional job of comedic & brilliant music as the opener. Most notably an incredibly well worded song that contained a lot of long & not often used words to describe a situation that could have been described with more common words, all while winning the crowd over with the randomly tossed in line of "I love you tits". Many of the people were so focused on trying to keep up with what Reggie was singing that when the line came in, the laughter was slightly delayed as the crowd had it sink in what he just slipped in to a song that was up to that point incredbly "wordy". Then after a 10-20 min intermission, came the band who did a breif number that included members of the group going into the aisles of the crowd. Once back on stage, a video started showing a rough, overly obese & wildly beared O'Brien laid out on his floor with bottles & 1/2 eaten pizzas scattered around him. As the video plays it shows O'Brien being glum & lethargic after being fired, before he gets a call asking if he wants to do a tour. Then it breaks into Conan "getting in shape" for the tour and just after it ends, out comes Conan. Coco opened with a monologue of jokes & insights that was a continual cavalcade of laughs. Thru the evening he did a variety of songs, most were his re-worded works of other songs. Some of them were really funny, others to be honest, seemed to maybe drag on at times. In an evening of Gold medal efforts, this was maybe the only SLIGHT drawback of the performances. Some of the songs were great, but not all were in my opinion. He ended the evening by doing another musical performance as he made his way thru the aisles of the Orpheum Theatre, being slightly mobbed by fans who patted him on the back & took tonnes of photos, he made his way thru a row of seats where he eventually would stop, get up ontop of a seat & play for a few seconds, before getting back down & making his way thru the other side of the row, down the aisle back onto the stage. He then wrapped up his performance, did his encore & left the stage. My grades go like this... Reggie Watts A/A+ Conans stand up A+ Andys "commercials" B Andy/Conan interaction B+ Deon Cole A- The band B+ Conans songs B+ Skits (panda, triumph, Chuck Norris etc) A Value A+ I paid $98.50 for a ticket. The most I have ever paid for a non-sports event. In the end, I was absolutely, thoroughly and completely, entertained. He joked at the start that he was hoping to put on a show that made us leave there thinking "it was almost worth it"...well, he exceeded that level of value. Now, as for my adventures in meeting him....the day started off earlier than the show when I went by the Orpheum in the early afternoon hoping to maybe catch them doing a sound check/rehearsal for the show. No luck, as they were still setting stuff up. Shortly after I was there, Conan tweeted a photo of him walking downtown & I instantly was on the trail. Having a good idea where it was, I headed in that direction. However, I never tracked him down & shortly after myself & a friend headed back to the venue. He never came in the door that entertainers usually come thru. The band did, Reggie did, but Conan and Andy Richter did not. After the show I instantly headed outside & waited with a crowd of 25-40 people. Shortly after one of the vans used to often transport entertainers that had been parked there, took off & my friends & I immediately knew what was up. We headed to a door in the alley behind the theatre that is not too often used at that venue, and sure enough the van was there. Less than 2 minutes later, Conan rushed out & got in the van. One of the hounds asked him for an autograph & Conan replied "sorry I cant, I have to get to the hospital. One of my people had to go there" (paraphrasing a bit perhaps). Unsure if this was a rouse or fact, we of course followed. Of course as you all know by now from the TMZ photage, it was fact. Conan Rushed over to St. Pauls Hospital where his tour manager was checked in & stayed for close to an hour. By the time he came out it was pouring rain, not ideal for autographs. So we simply took a few pics of him, I got a picture with him (that looks horrible) & we again, followed him. This time to his hotel. When we got to the hotel, we hurried up to the door where Conan stopped & signed for us. Doing between 3 and 5 items each. He joked with 2 people who did not even know who he was after they saw us getting autographs, they asked him "who are you" Conan asked them if they are Greek, they said yes, Conan said without missing a beat "so am I" then made up a name. The two older men seemed completely satisfied with the answer, but still were asking why is he famous, much to the amusment of us & I think even Coco. He then headed inside, and I waited around a few extra seconds to get Deon Cole, who was hanging in the driveway when Conan showed up. The next day I retured bright & early, eager to get more Conan autographs. I showed up at 9:15 AM & with the exception of leaving for about 5 mins to get something to eat early on, the door there was guarded by myself or someone else till he finally left at 4 PM. In the meantime we saw LaBamba go out, come in, come back out to get on the tour bus with the rest of the band. Reggie Watts came out & took a cab after missing the bus. I took the chance to get a pic with La Bamba and Reggie, as I was entertained by both of them in the night befores show. Eventually Conan came downstairs & stood around in the lobby for a few minutes with Andy & staff/crew of the show. At almost 4 exactly he came out, walked straight over to the 3 of us that were waiting, saw me and said in a tone that I have heard him use when he is mockigly talking bad about something & said "oh, its you again", as he came over. I had 2 posters I was unable to get signed the night before because of some miscommunication & bad luck on my behalf. He assumed I had got posters done the nght before, as the 3 people with me then did in fact get posters done. But he still signed them, making one out to me, and just signing the other one. He then hurried thru a few other requests doing 1-2 per person, I managed to get him to sign for me again, before he stopped signing, then got him to take a quick picture with me & 1 of the other 2 that was there...then he was on his way to the show. I attempted to beat him to the venue, which was not far on foot, and would have if it werent for a combination of a poorly timed dive/roll thru an alley after losing my footing on the uneven terrain, and an over-aggressive undercover cop who assumed I must have been running from a crime. If 1 or the other event didnt happen, i would have beat him to the venue. But, as it was, I got there JUST to see his hat going in the door....and that was the last I saw of Conan in Vancouver.... I thought... in fact, my blog report was initially done at this point. I was less than 10 minutes from publishing it. Then I got a text telling me he was eating at a restaraunt downtown yesterday... so I went out. As I strolled up towards the establishment, there was no denying the towering frame covered with orangish-red hair, it was Conan. He was out on the patio in the Cactus Club Cafe eating, not even trying to be hidden. I waited across the street for him to finish his meal/chat with a friend who had accompanied him. Several other fans, including staff at the restaraunt asked for pictures with him & he happily obliged. Eventually, he got up to leave...which still took 3-5 minutes, as more fans stopped him both outside on the patio he was eating on, and inside as he made his way to the exist. Eventually he got to the exit, opens the door & instantly sees me & greets me with a more upbeat "oh hey, its you again. Whats up?". I of course show him photos I would like him to sign, he asks me how many I have, I tell him several, and he proceeds to shoot thru my pile of 5 photos, laughing at 1 of the ones where he is posed with a monkey. As he was wrapping up, a woman showed up wanting to get a photo with him because her friend in South America was a huge fan of his. She explained to him how her friend was had a crush on him & that when they were younger played "would you rather" (which O'Brien didnt seem to know what that game was) & she picked Conan over Colbert and Leno for who she would rather sleep with, which O'Brien quickly replied "good choice, because I have slept with them and trust me, they arent very good". She then showed him a pic of the friend in question on her phone, which Coco responded with his pattended growl. He then took a pic with the girl, then took a pic with me after I explained that the one from yesterday didnt turn out because his face didnt really show up in it, which he again without missing a beat responded "yeah, thats because I'm the anti-christ & dont show up on film". He then proceeded to leave with his friend across the street to do some hat shopping. He left the hat shop with a new lid and proceeded to go catch a cab. From there I thought I was done with Conan as I made my way back to a bus stop... but there was 1 more interaction with Coco to be had. As I crossed a street about a block from where I last saw him, his cab passed me. He rolled his window down & waved at me as he went by. Then was within seconds, gone. Out of my sight as the cab caught the green light and was outta there. All toll- 12 autographs over 3 days. 3 photos with him & several memories that I am sure will stick with me for years. Thanks for coming to Vancouver Conan O'Brien.... even if it was 3 months too late to take the offer I made you to work for me back in January. http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/1/post/2010/01/an-open-letter-offer-to-conan-obrien-to-work-for-me.html PS- sorry the pics from the show seem a bit fuzzy, I had poor seats, bad lighting & was being constantly nagged by the 1 usher who seemed to give a crap to not use my camera, or even my blackberry during the show...despeite the 200 other luminescent lights you could see thru the audience. These are the most commonly used search keywords to get to my site thru google.
Of course the data is only relevant from Oct 15-Dec 31. I didnt have the program in place prior to October 15th. Because of that, terms like Twilight, Pattinson, Stewart, New Moon etc are likely a lot lower than they would have been if this tracked all searches since day 1. I suspect if they were covered from the beginning, RPattinson would probably have topped 10,000 searches. That said, I was still impressed with the hockey related search numbers for the Olympics. These search terms ran thru the release of New Moon, so the Twilight phenomenon had SOME pull, but still Olympic searches dominated the numbers. With 2010 now here & the Olympics a few weeks away, it will be interesting to see how dominant they are at the end of 2010 in my search terms. 1st 1094 HOCKEY 2nd 852 OLYMPICS 3rd 833 2010 4th 592 CANADAGRAPHS 5th 309 ROBERT PATTINSON 6th 267 TEAM CANADA 7th 251 TEAM SWITZERLAND 8th 250 AUTOGRAPHS/SIGNED 9th 199 KRISTEN STEWART 10th 185 TWILIGHT 11th 118 TEAM CZECH REPUBLIC 12th 91 TEAM LATVIA 13th 88 ARGUMENT/ELEVATOR 14th 82 HOCKEY AUTOGRAPHS 15th 70 TWILIGHT AUTOGRAPHS 16th 51 NEW MOON 17th 46 TEAM FINLAND 18th 31 TAYLOR LAUTNER 19th 24 ANNA TORV 20th 19 JOSHUA JACKSON 20th 19 NEW MOON AUTOGRAPHS 20th 19 CANUCKS AUTOGRAPHS. Things I found interesting were that Taylor Lautner, although one of my best selling autographs, was quite frankly, not a very often searched term in comparison to his co-stars Rob & Kristen, and only moderately more than Kellan Lutz at 17. That put him 2 short of the logjam that became 20th place. I had to do a lot of partial word searches thru my list to find possible misspelled ones, and even though I did. Maybe I missed some. But these are within 99% accuracy, correct numbers. I was more amazed with the amount of mis-spellings some words had. Argument was spelled ELEVEN different ways. My personal favorite being "argewmint". With that many failed spellings of 1 word, you can imagine how its possible I may have missed 1 or 2. For peoples names like Rob, Kristen, Taylor, Anna & Joshua I searched their first names & last names to come up with the list. In Rob & Kristens cases, I even putt commonly used nicknames like RPatts, RPattz, KStew to find them. Interestingly Fringe stars Anna Torv & Joshua Jackson made the list. But the show itself did not. With 2009 over, I can look at my Google Analytics stats & see some interesting observations. Now it should be noted these stats are only from October 15th when I signed up for it, so a lot of the early Twilight stuff is not included, but it still has a lot of interesting things.
