THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 523 OF "ONCE UPON A TIME". Do not continue reading or viewing the photos or article if you do not want to see/know anything about the episode prior to viewing it and have not yet seen the episode. . . . last warning . . Once Upon A Time filmed scenes for the season 5 finale at the Vancouver Art Gallery in late March, Its a location that pretty much every production in Vancouver has used at 1 time or another. It is easily 1 of the 5 most used locations in Vancouver, and maybe top 20 in North America with 2 large stair cases one on each side of the city block sized building, and an old courtroom inside (it used to be a courthouse) it is 1 of the most versatile locations around. It is quite common during TV season to come across more than 1 production using the location in a week. I even made note of it to a friend only a couple weeks prior to this shoot that "basically every show ever shot in Vancouver for any length of time has shot here but OUAT as far as I can recall"... and then voila, 2 weeks later they were there. An early scene was done with Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Jared Gilmore as Henry Mills and guest star Olivia Steele-Falconer as Violet. The scene sees Henry and violet sitting outside a fountain in New York City. Emma comes up to the pair and speaks to the pair, Violet then gets up, allowing Emma to sit down and talk to Henry for a couple minutes. The scene clearly looks like a set up to the next scenes that were shot there that day that you will be able to find in future blog posts HERE and HERE (links will be added once they have been created) While this scene was winding down and finishing off their last takes, cast for the next scene showed up in the form of Robert Carlyle as Mr. Gold and Lana Parrilla as Regina Mills.
Once Upon A Time has a TWO HOUR season finale on Sunday May 16, 2015 on ABC in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. You can find all our Once Upon A Time previous blog posts including ones for episode 522 (the first half of the finale) HERE

Once Upon A Time shoots scenes for their 100th episode in Steveston in November with lots of cast.3/5/2016 ![]() The 100th episode of Once Upon A Time airs this weekend on Sunday. The cast & crew were busy working on the episode back in November in Steveston. The episode titled "Souls Of The Departed" will be the 12th episode of the 5th season of the hit fantasy show. Directed by veteran OUAT director Ralph Hemecker, the 100th episode will see many returning faces to the show that fans will know like Michael Raymond James & Robbie Kay. Unfortunately... on this day of filming, none of them seemed to be around. With this part of the season taking part in the "underworld" things looked a bit different in Storybrooke (aka - Steveston). Large orange smoke stacks were along the street every 100 feet or so, and many of the identifiable parts of Storybrooke like Mr. Golds, the Library clock tower and even Emmas Bug seem to have fallen on hard times there. The first scene they shot on the day had Robert Carlyle going to Mr. Golds shop. It didnt last long, and didnt really reveal much of anything. Shortly after, they filmed a scene with Sean Maguire as Robin Hood and Lana Parrilla as Regina Mills walking together thru the streets of this slightly different looking Storybrooke. they are stopped, or stop to talk to a man that I was told by a production person had the character name "Black Tooth". I cant say what the scene really revealed except for a couple of the shops there were definitely different than the ones in Storybrooke. After they finished filming that scene, Sean and Lana went over to the middle of the street where the fallen clock tower laid, and posed for a photo in front of it so they could post it on their social media accounts later. A bit later in the day, A scene was shot with a large portion of the main cast walking together thru the streets looking at the carnage, and looking like they were preparing for a possible attack as the group carried bows & arrows and guns with them. Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jennifer Morrison, and Jared Gilmore joined Carlyle, Parrilla and Maguire for this scene. Late last month, the cast and crew of the show celebrated their 100th episode milestone with an event in Steveston at the Cannery which the shows creator tweeted to fans to come & "see" the cast. Which technically they did.... of course, NONE of the cast came over and interacted with the fans because the ABC / Disney people there refused to allow it even when it appeared the cast were wanting to. After the party, many of the cast DID however stop for the very small group of fans that waited out there till slightly after 11 PM for the event to wrap up including former cast member & current iZombie star Rose McIver and most of the current cast including Colin O'Donoghue, Rebecca Mader and Sean Maguire who were the last actors to leave. Once Upon A Time airs Sundays on ABC in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada.

The small village of Steveston in South Richmond was again transformed into Storybrooke for a day of filming for episode 1. The first scene I came across in downtown Steveston for the 1st day of shooting for Once Upon A Time season 5 in the town involved an odd sight. Granny's diner had been transformed into a beer garden. whether this is a temporary situation, or permanent was not yet known. More off, was Gabe Khouth as Sneezy wearing an Emma Swan style red jacket & driving the Sheriffs car. He shows up to what appears to be a ribbon cutting ceremony with several other dwarves in attendance including Faustino DiBauda, Mig Macario and maybe others.. I couldn't see the whole scene from where I was, but there was at least 3 or 4 of the dwarves there. Most notably missing was Lee Arenberg. After that scene, the production moved 1/2 block down to an intersection. In the intersection they set up a scene with several cast members including Rebecca Mader, Sean Maguire, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin, Colin O'Donoghue, Emilie de Ravin and Jared Gilmore. In the scene, we see Lana as Regina Mills marching towards Rebecca and Sean as Zelena and Robin Hood. Regina is flanked by several of the locals, Hook, Mary & Dacid, Belle and Henry all follow her to the middle of the street. It seems that Zelena has robin captive somehow and demands a wand from Regina for the release of Robin. Regina does whats asked of her, and gives Zelana a wand. Robin is then let go & instantly taken in by Regina to their side of the battle. Zelena proudly waves the wand around, attempting perhaps to create magic or a spell? But its appears to be a fake. Zelena realizes it wont work, but before she can react, Regina moves in & puts a cuff around her arm and seemingly stops Zelena dead in her tracks. Once the cast did a couple rehearsals of it, they went back to their trailers & got into wardrobe for the actual filming. A little while later, the group returned to film the scene in their full wardrobes for the day. By that point, the crowds swelled well over 150 and at times, over 200 people, as the combination of the 1st shoot of the season and nice weather drew a larger than usual crowd. No surprise with the size of the crowd, none of the main cast came over to meet any fans at all this day. while the main cast is becoming less & less receptive of coming over in the past year or so, its rare that NONE of them do. Guess the absurdly large crowd was just too much for any of them to consider.
While they were shooting this scene, my battery on my camera died so I left while they were still shooting. so I don't know if more happened in this scene afterwards, but the amount of times they shot this, I doubt it. you can follow the stars of Once Upon A Time on Social Media sites Once Upon A Time Twitter Facebook Lana Parrilla Twitter Facebook Sean Maguire Twitter Rebecca Mader Twitter Facebook Colin O'Donoghue Twitter Facebook Josh Dallas Twitter Ginnifer Goodwin Twitter Facebook Emilie de Ravin Twitter Gabe Khouth Twitter Jared Gilmore Twitter Faustino Di Bauda Twitter Mig Macario Twitter Once Upon A Time returns for season 5 on ABC in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada starting Oct 2015 Apologies in advance for how grainy/fuzzy a few of the pics are. It was a relatively new camera at the time and I still was learning some of the settings, and apparently had something set on it that was not optimal. In early April, Once Upon A Time wrapped their 4th season. One of their last days of filming was on location in Steveston, which is their often used location for part of downtown Storybrooke. On this day they shot a couple scenes through out the day. starting in the early morning. A scene was shot which had several of the cast members laying on the ground including Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Timothy Webber and possibly Sean Maguire from what I could see. There may have been more that were out of view from me. Also in the scene was Jared Gilmore, but he seemed to be standing through it all. What happened in the scene, I don't really know. Out of context, it really didn't make much sense to me, or others watching. Scenes often don't, but some of the time you can piece together what the general idea is...this was not one of those times. After they shot that scene, the actors for the night scenes came out, did a quick read thru/rehearsal for the scene before heading back to their trailers to wait for night fall. After they wrapped the daytime scene, they took a long break as they waited for the sun to set to shoot night scenes in the middle of downtown Steveston. The night scenes consisted of Sean Maguire, Lana Parrilla, Colin O'Donogue, Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin shooting scenes in the middle of the street. The scene appears to have some type of magic involved as the Regina Mills is frozen in the middle of the road, restrained by some unseen force. Robin Hood tries to rescue her, but is sent away by the "force". Eventually Emma comes in with Rumplestiltstins dagger and does her best He-Man impersonation which seemingly releases Regina from the mystery grip, and causes Emma to apparently vanish. Captain Hook looks on while Emma holds the dagger up and seemingly tries to convince her to not do whatever it is shes doing. Off to the side Snow White & Prince Charming stand in shock & horror as they watch all of this take place. With this shoot being their last run in Steveston for the season most of the cast were quite good about coming over at 1 point or another to meet fans & sign autographs. Lana, Jennifer, Colin, Josh and Sean all met with the fans at different times throughout the night. Once Upon A Time is nominated for May Madness, which is going on right now. If you have not seen this episode and do not want to read or see possible spoilers from the episode, do not continue. . . . last warning . . Back in November I caught the cast & crew of the ABC fantasy series Once Upon A Time shooting in Steveston for episode 412. Like many trips to Steveston, the crew squeezed in as many scenes as they could to the small fishing village that stands in for Storybrooke, Maine. With so many scenes set for the day, once again I saw many different cast throughout the day. When I first got there, I saw Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Ginnifer Goodwin, Colin O'Donoghue & Emilie de Ravin shooting scenes in the middle of Monctor Street (aka - Main street in Storybrooke). The scene had Regina & Emma run towards something, then Hook, Mary & Belle come up behind shortly after. In between takes the women eagerly grabbed their winter jackets to keep warm as Steveston has a reputation for being several degrees cooler than most other places in the Lower Mainland, while Colin seemingly seemed ok in his Hook attire. They continued filming with these 5 in the middle of the street before moving on to more scenes. Then the crew moved on to scenes where Lana & Jared Gilmore shoot a quick scene that seems to show Henry getting ready to go to school (seriously, does this kid ever actually go to school anymore? Also, who is teaching the kids?? Mary seems busy with other things). Next up was a scene where Jennifer drives down a street in the yellow Volkswagen Beetle that everyone knows as Emma Swan's car. Her passenger.... none other than Regina. A little later, there was a scene next to Mr. Golds with Colin & Jen where they exchange a couple quick words, a quick hug/kiss and proceed along the sidewalk with their arms around each other. At the time I thought I had found a great spot to sneak pics of this scene.... only to find out when I walked around where the crowd was watching from they had a pretty good view of the scene as well. Finally, scenes were done after it got dark in the middle of Moncton Street with Robert Carlyle and 2 cast members I had never seen prior to that moment. Victoria Smurfit & Merrin Dungey. Of course there has been plenty of news since this scene was shot about the 3 big bads of the back end of season 4 being Kristin Bauer van Straten as Maleficent, Smurfit as Cruella De Vil and Dungey as Ursula.... but at that time, no one really knew who Dungey was yet except for a couple fans that recognized her instantly.
The scene showed Cruella, Ursula and Mr. Gold walking aright down the middle of Main street talking and part or all of the topic of conversation seemed to be about Regina from what I could make out from snippets of conversation during the takes. Once Upon A Time returns NEXT WEEK, Sunday March 1st on ABC in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. THIS BLOG POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 404 OF ONCE UPON A TIME. Do not continue reading, or viewing the photos if you do not want to see or read anything about the episode prior to its airing. . . . last warning . . (PS - sorry, if links dont work in this blog post. Every time I made an edit to this blog all the links would vanish... so I dont know if they will work or not. Guess scroll over them and see if a link shows itself? Theres been a LOT of problems with Weebly the last week or 2 since they changed their system... hopefully this is a temporary glitch). I know it seems like I have already had 50 Once Upon A Time season 4 set reports already... but really its only been like 7. Maybe the fact this is for episode 404 is why it seems like so many. I caught OUAT filming scenes for this episode in Steveston a couple months ago and decided I should start getting these up faster (I was overwhelmed with so many sets from the earlier shoots, and preparing for my annual trip to Toronto that a LOT of blogs got pushed back...and I am just getting caught up now). So there wont be a lot of description to this than to say it had a scene where Elizabeth Mitchell as the Ice/Snow Queen (heard it both ways) is hurrying thru the side streets of Storybrooke with Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan in hot pursuit with her gun out. This also of course is where that pic of Jennifer with her hair in every direction was from that Jen liked so much she tweeted it shortly after I had posted it on twitter myself. More random than that had to be seeing Jen and her stand in and stunt double, along with Elizabeth and her double all at the same time. At some point, scenes were also shot with Jared Gilmore as Henry Mills, but I never actually SAW what his scenes entailed since the absurdly fan unfriendly production had people shoved back, behind a side street so that NO PART of the scene was visible to them... a tactic they have gotten all too familiar with trying to do every shot in Steveston now. They really do act like they own the town. Anyways.... here are pics from this shoot... I have some night scene shots from this day as well with a few different actors coming soon as well. You can see the rest of my OUAT blog posts of course at the link on the left hand side titled Once Upon A Time Blog. Once Upon A Time season 4 is on ABC in the U.S. every Sunday and on CTV in Canada. Once Upon A Time films scenes with new parents Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin and other cast8/3/2014 THIS BLOG POST MAY CONTAIN MINOR OR NOTABLE SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 EPISODE 1 OF "ONCE UPON A TIME". If you do not want to see or read anything about the episode prior to it airing, please do not continue on. . . . last warning . The 4th season of the hit ABC fantasy drama "Once Upon A Time" has begun filming in and around Vancouver, BC, Canada. Last week I caught the cast & crew out working in Steveston, or as you know it "Storybrooke" for a 2 day shoot. There was several scenes filmed over those 2 days, and I got a LOT of pics, so I am having to divide up things into 5 blog posts on it...yes FIVE. There was just that much stuff. So there will be blog posts on Jennifer Morrison & Colin O'Donoghue working together POSTED HERE. There is a blog post solely on the night shoots POSTED HERE. There will be a blog post on Ginnifer Goodwin & Josh Dallas working together along with a variety of other cast. There will be a blog post solely committed to the 2 Dwarves I saw filming over those days, and anyone that crossed paths with them in the scenes. Finally, there will be a blog post solely on the newest character for season 4, from the hit movie "Frozen" Queen Elisa, played by "Fringe" alum Georgina Haig. After a quick opinion poll on twitter, you guys decided you wanted to this set next, so here it is. The Prince Charming ( Josh Dallas ) and Snow White ( Ginnifer Goodwin ) scenes that were shot primarily were with the pair, and a new baby (did they use the new parents own baby for the scenes?? I think they may have judging by their reactions to the baby in question for the scene during breaks) walking along with Emma (Jennifer Morrison ) and Henry Mills ( Jared Gilmore ) just before Captain Hook ( Colin O'Donoghue ) comes along to snag some time with Emma. This was the 1st time Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin were seen on set since the arrival of their own child this past off season. The pair seemed generally good and lots of cast and crew seemed eager to welcome the happy couple to work suggesting it might have been the 1st time many of them had seen the pair on set. The next day Josh Dallas filmed some scenes where he goes for a run after Emma and Hook after they see *spoilers...gonna have to wait till my blog on the 2 dwarves*. The pair also shot a night scene with several other cast members that are posted in my night shoot blog.
Once Upon A Time will return for season 4 on ABC in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada starting September 28, 2014 |
