ARROW 783 CASTLE 396 HANNIBAL 394 COVERT AFFAIRS 344 HAWAII FIVE-O 234 SHERLOCK 226 MURDOCH MYSTERIES 173 CRIMINAL MINDS 157 PERSON OF INTEREST 154 THE BLACKLIST 150 ELEMENTARY 129, RIZZOLI & ISLES 126, GREY'S ANATOMY 105, THE MENTALIST 90, DOWNTON ABBEY 81, CHICAGO FIRE 74, REVENGE 72, THE NEWSROOM 68, REPUBLIC OF DOYLE 51, PARENTHOOD 45, THE KILLING 43 The Best Action or Drama actor category had 1 of the few notable upsets of recent memory last year when secondary star John barrowman of Arrow beat out his own shows lead, and the defending 2 time winner Nathan Fillion from Castle to take the award. This year, those same top 3 finalists from last year are back & in the serious mix for this years honour. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham. The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible. The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Missing the mark this time were retired Breaking Bad, along with Rookie Blue, Elementary, Grey's Anatomy & The Mentalist. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE

The opening round generated 94,550 total votes. Of those, 5,081 were write-in votes. Unfortunately, only 2,299 were valid write in votes. Leaving 2,782 failed write in votes. More sad, this is not even the worst year percentage wise of ineligible write in votes.
As some of you who follow me on twitter, facebook, tumblr or right here on this site know, I have warned many people this year about writing in nominees in categories they either A- are already nominated in, or B- are not eligible for. As you have surely noticed on prior results posted. Votes for write in votes of already nominated challengers were taken off their total in the round 1 results. HOWEVER, as we all know, when you add up the write in votes, and the votes shown for write in votes...they don't even come close to adding up. This is where the write in votes for people, or shows NOT eligible in a category come in. I have tabulated a SUBSTANTIAL list of them over the 27 categories. As I said repeatedly, doing this would lead to penalties. This year, I have decided the best way to do this is to take votes against a person/character and add them all up, divide them by all the categories they are eligible for round 2 in. So say "Person A" had 72 bad votes, and are eligible in 3 categories, they would have 24 votes against them in each category to be taken off. How this will be done is, this round, 75% of those votes will be taken off. 18, per category. If the person still makes the finals in all 3 categories, the other 25% will be taken out there, costing them 6 votes each category there. If they only make it in 1 category, all the left over votes will go into the 1 category then, meaning 18 votes will be lost by person A in that category in the finals. If they don't make any finals, then the penalties just vanish since the person whose fans made the incorrect votes was eliminated. I saw several "whats it matter, its not hurting anyone" comments. Which I suppose is technically right. I mean I wasn't physically harmed (as far as I know) from counting all the excess votes. HOWEVER, my TIME and patience were wasted to add them all up. Each write in vote has to be added up manually because of the countless spelling and punctuation varieties fans came up with for some of them. For 3 years I have warned fans thru the various social media platforms, as well as on here, this COULD happen....and several fanbases chose to ignore the statements. Thus why this year, those votes WILL be collected off the totals. Perhaps NEXT YEAR, certain fan bases will read things more thoroughly. I did NOT keep track of anyone with less than 3 votes, as about 20% of the nominees had at least 1 against them.... and that's a LOT of people to track. Only the more frequent offenders were catalogued. 1280 - Zoie Palmer/Lauren Lewis (5 selections) 441 - Emmanuelle Vaugier/Evony the Morrigan (1 selection) 71 - Anna Silk/Bo Dennis (4 selections) 46 - Ksenia Solo/Kenzi (3 selections) 27 - Kris Holden-Ried (3 selections) 9 - Lana Parrilla/Evil Queen (3 selections) 7 - Melissa McBride/Carol Peletier (2 selection) 7- Norman Reedus/Daryl Dixon (3 selections) 6 - Emily Bett Rickards/Felicity Smoak (5 selections) 6- Chandler Riggs/Carl Grimes (1 selection) 5- James Roday/Shawn Spencer (3 selections) 4- John Barrowman/Malcolm Merlyn (2 selections) 3- Stephen Amell/Oliver Queen (4 selections) 3- Christopher Gormham/Auggie Anderson (1 selection) 50 - Lost girl (9 selections) 8 - Once Upon A Time (4 selections) 7- The Walking Dead (6 selections) 6- Supernatural (11 selections) 4- Murdoch Mysteries (5 selections) 3- Orphan Black (2 selections) 3- Outlander (1 selection) 3- The 100 (1 selection) The largest vote total for a candidate in round 1 was - 4,996 for Dr. Lauren Lewis & Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" in Best Couple. Once a candidate has been nominated once, no more nominations are required.... so please don't nominate people already listed above The Best Actress In An Action Or Drama Program of 2012 as voted by you the fans was.. STANA KATIC "CASTLE".
Early on it looked like a 3 horse race as Katic, Ellen Pompeo, the eventual runner up from "Grey's Anatomy" & Jennifer Carpenter "Dexter were within mere votes of each other for the 1st couple days. However, eventually the rush of support for Castle pushed on & eventually eliminated Carpenter from contention & in the last day had enough of a push to give the modest breathing room Stana had over Ellen to turn it into a comfortable win. This category was influenced stats wise by a rush of voters that came in from The Walking Dead, as their fans voted on the awards that their show ere in at that time in the sci-fi/fantasy categories, which were on at the same time as the Action/drama categories. Michelle Dockery from "Downton Abbey" and Mireille Enos of "The Killing" got left behind early by the throngs of supporters for the top 3. Eventually Katic, the actress who plays "Castle" detective Kate Beckett triumphed. Stana Katic beat runner up Ellen Pompeo by 281 votes. In 3rd was Jennifer Carpenter 292 votes out of 2nd & 635 votes ahead of 4th place Michelle Dockery who finished 306 votes ahead of the final finalist Mireille Enos. Stana Katic wins this award for the 2nd year in a row. She is also the only actress to make the finals last year & this year in this category. Despite being in the same roles last year, Pompeo, Carpenter & Dockery were not even nominated last year, and Enos didnt get out of the nomination round... of course, with the "Sci-fi" category now being re-named "Sci-fi or fantasy" category, nominees from Once Upon A Time & Game Of Thrones who provided challenges last year have moved, leaving the door open for new challengers. Final vote totals Stana Katic "Castle" 1787 Ellen Pompeo "Grey's Anatomy" 1506 Jennifer Carpenter "Dexter" 1214 Michelle Dockery "Downton Abbey" 579 Mireille Enos "The Killing" 273 |
