The 2015 Best Of TV Awards are about to start the Finals soon. The 6th annual BOTVA's are still closing out some polls for the run off round before we advance to the finals. We've already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record of 575,000 votes in a year. The Semi-Final rounds for Best Talk Show Host, Writing & Stunts categories took place a couple weeks ago. Here are the complete results (BOLD nominees have qualified for the Finals) Best Talk Show Host ELLEN DEGENERES 475 JIMMY FALLON 304 JON STEWART 151 CONAN O'BRIEN 129 JOHN OLIVER 123 STEPHEN COLBERT 122 David Letterman 103 Trevor Noah 70 Best Writing ARROW 377 PERSON OF INTEREST 242 SUPERNATURAL 195 AGENTS OF SHIELD 184 CASTLE 168 THE 100 114 ONCE UPON A TIME 107 AGENT CARTER 101 DAREDEVIL 98 HANNIBAL 90 LOST GIRL 87 THE BLACKLIST 84 THE BIG BANG THEORY 79 DOCTOR WHO 76 THE WALKING DEAD 72 GAME OF THRONES 71 How To Get Away With Murder 67 Orphan Black 65 Orange Is The New Black 53 iZombie 52 Mr. robot 38 The Goldbergs 31 Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt 30 Modern Family 29 Better Call Saul 16 X Company 15 Best Stunts ARROW 735 PERSON OF INTEREST 484 THE FLASH 276 DAREDEVIL 212 AGENTS OF SHIELD 205 ONCE UPON A TIME 193 LOST GIRL 187 THE WALKING DEAD 158 GAME OF THRONES 152 HAWAII FIVE-0 124 Supernatural 94, Hannibal 78, Doctor Who 54, The Blacklist 40, The Player 25 The Best Talk Show Host category again looks like it will be dominated by Ellen Degeneres.. The only winner of this award in the 3 years of its existence seems poised to take it again. The two time runner up Jimmy Fallon finds himself finishing 2nd again to Ellen in this round. Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien all make the finals for a fourth time, along with John Oliver in his 2nd finals. Last years field had 8 finalists, this year only 6. Former 2X finalists David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel both missed the finals with Kimmel not even making the semi-finals.
The Best Writing Category has most of the same shows that made the inagural awards final round last year. Only Orange Is The New Black and the currently inactive Sherlock did not make it back to this years finals. A few new shows to the finals made the finals this year. Person of Interest and Agents Of SHIELD were strong contenders, both finishing in the top 4 in the semi-finals. Another pack of four newcomers to the finals followed not too much furtner behind, The 100, Once Upon A Time, Agent Carter & Daredevil all made the finals as well. Last years winner, Arrow, is back in the finals as the vote leader in the semi-finals, after a modest 5th place showing in the opening round. In a rare feat, Arrow actually increased its vote total from round 1 where there was no limit to voting, to round 2 where there was a 1 per voting restriction. the two opening round voting goliaths, hannibal & Person of Interest had somewhat different round 2 successes. While both qualified for the finals, POI managed to stick around in 2nd, while Hannibal fell back to 10th. last years runner up, Lost Girl also qualified, but barely, sneaking in down at 11th. The Best Stunts Category also won by Arrow last year looks poised for a possible repeat performance this year. Much like the writing category, almost everyone from last year is back. Only Supernatural didnt make it back to the finals this year, being replaced by newcomer Daredevil. The difference between last year & this year seems to be who the contenders to Arrows title might be. Last years runner ups Lost Girl and the eliminated Supernatural dropped considerably this year, while two also rans in the finals last year Person Of Interest and The Flash find themselves going into the finals as the contenders. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Talk Show Host is.... Ellen Degeneres
Ellen wins her 3rd straight honour. With 1849 votes, which breaks her previous record 1590 from last year. The 1155 vote margin however just narrowly falls short of last years 1179 vote margin. Early on (and I mean still on day 1) Jon Stewart had a sizable lead & looked like he might challenge Ellen this year. Eventually though, her fans started to come thru & took over the lead by late ind ay 1 & never looked back. For the 2nd year in a row Jimmy Fallon finished 2nd well back. His 694 votes is a new record for a runner up. Jon Stewart moves up 1 spot to 3rd this year from his 4th from last year while Stephen Colbert moves down to 4th from his 3rd place spot last year in his final year of hosting The Colbert Report. Conan O'Brien remains in 5th again this year. Jimmy Kimmel stays 6th. David Letterman finishes 7th returning to the finals after missing them last year. Newcomer to the finals John Oliver finished 8th in his 1st year. 1st ELLEN DEGENERES "Ellen Degeneres Show" 1849 2nd JIMMY FALLON "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon" 694 3rd JON STEWART "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" 341 4th Stephen Colbert "The Colbert Report" 219 5th Conan O'Brien "Conan" 209 6th Jimmy Kimmel "Jimmy Kimmel Live" 186 7th David Letterman "Late Show With David Letterman" 133 8th John Oliver "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" 128 Best Of TV Awards 2014 - FINALISTS for Best Non-Human Character Or Prop and Talk Show Host.12/26/2014 The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. In fact, Bear from Person of Interest is the ONLY other semi-finalist from last year to even make it this year. On the talk show host side. Nothing much changes. Ellen Degeneres again looks poised for a 3rd consecutive title as she handily won the semi-finals, as she has in the previous years. All of last years finalists made this years finals as well. The Best Of TV Awards 2013 winner in the category of Best Talk Show Host is Ellen Degeneres. The defending champion once again obliterated the competition as the host of The Ellen Show, Ellen Degeneres was the only daytime talk show host in the finals for the 2nd consecutive year. With a total of 1590 votes Ellen had more than the other 5 finalsts combined. Runner up Jimmy Fallon, after not even making the finals last year managed to snag 2nd with 411 votes. In 3rd was Stephen Colbert from "The Colbert Report" with 359 votes. Rounding out the finalists Jon Stewart, last years runner up was 4th. Conan O'Brien was 5th. Jimmy Kimmel was 6th This award was never in question, as Degeneres had the lead from the 1st few minutes of the vote & never looked back. Ellen Degeneres 1590 votes crushed last years record of 452. Degeneres win differential of 1179 was the largest of this year. RESULTS 1st ELLEN DEGENERES 1590 2nd Jimmy Fallon 411 3rd Stephen Colbert 359 4th Jon Stewart 290 5th Conan O'Brien 233 6th Jimmy Kimmel 223 This years Best Non-Human Character Or Prop category looks like it will be business as usual for the current defending 2X champion. The "Supernatural" Impala with 2 consecutive titles crushed its semi-final competition with 682 votes, more than double its closes challenger, the "Supernatural" Men Of Letters Bunker at 292 votes. Rounding out the top 3 is Rumplestiltskins Dagger from "Once Upon A Time" only 20 votes back at 272. Another OUAT object was 4th, as Captain Hooks ship, The Jolly Roger snagged 4th, ahead of compact business car The Blueberry from "Psych". Missing the finals this year by 25 votes was the "Community" monkey Annies Boobs, a finalist the 2 years prior. The Machine (a finalist last year) & Bear from "Person Of Interest" were right behind. Well back in last was The Pale Horse from "Hell On Wheels" The Best Talk Show Host category is in its 2nd year, but it doesnt look like much has changed from the 1st one last year. Ellen Degeneres again is crushing the challengers in both rounds, with 580 votes this round. Way back in 2nd with 210 votes is Jimmy Fallon (didnt even make the finals last year). In 3rd is Stephen Colbert at 152 votes. Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart & Jimmy Kimmel round out the finalists this year. Missing the finals - Chelsea Handler & James Lipton, neither of whom were really very close to the lead pack. The finals will start January 5 , 2014 The newest categories in the Best Of TV Awards polls were for youth actors (under the age of 20 at the start of 2013) In the youth actress category there was not a lot of suprises in the top 3 as the Stark daughters from "Game Of Thrones" sandwiched the daughter of the lead character on "Castle". Maisie Williams with 381 votes took the top spot in round 1, her potrayal of the tougher than her age Arya Stark won out over Molly C. Quinn and her potrayal of Richard Castle's daughter Alexis. Sophie Turner, the other "Stark Daughter" on Game Of Thrones rounded out a relatively predictable top 3. The popularity of "The Walking Dead" & "Arrow" were not overlooked by the voters. Brighton Sharbino (sister of Saxon Sharbino from "Touch" another nominee) from The Walking Dead & Bex Taylor-Klaus (who also was nominated for her breakout role on "The Killing") on Arrow rounded out the top 5. Other semi-finalists included Ariana Grande who got in with both her roles on "Victorious" & "Sam & Cat", Debby Ryan "jessie", Taissa Farmiga (younger sister of Emmy Nominated actress Vera Farmiga) "American Horror Story", Saxon Sharbino "Touch", Freya Tingley "Hemlock Grove", AnnaSophia Robb "The Carrie Diaries", Bex Taylor-Klaus "The Killing", Gage Golightly "Teen Wolf" & Elizabeth Gillies "Victorious" On the male side. A lot of the top vote getters got there thru either themselves, or die-hard fans tweeting to their fans to vote. Robbie Kay as fairy tale character Peter Pan on "Once Upon A Time" took top spot with 1707 votes. Sean Giambrone nabbed 2nd for his portrayal of "The Goldbergs" lead character Adam Goldberg. 3rd went to another OUAT cast member as Jared Gilmore, aka - Henry Spencer, took the spot by merely 13 votes. Shane Harper from "Good Luck Charlie" was narrowly beaten out for 3rd. With nearly twice as many votes as 5th place contender Chandler Riggs from "The Walking Dead". Other semi-finalists included Tayden Marks "Hell On Wheels", Nick Robinson "Melissa & Joey", Jake T. Austin "The Fosters:, Maxim Knight "Falling Skies", Demetrius Joyette "Degrassi The Next generation", Leon Thomas III "Victorious", Rowan Longworth "Fringe" & "The Killing", Nolan Gould "Modern Family" & Connor Jessup "Falling Skies". In the Best Talk Show Host category, there was little suprise in the leader. Last years runa way winner, Ellen Degeneres again had a sizable lead in round 1 with 1337 votes, more than trip 2nd place conteder Stephen Colbert from "The Colbert Report". Jon Stewart from "The Daily Show" rounds out the top 3. Other semi-finalists include Jimmy Fallon, James Lipton, Conan O'Brien, Chelsea Handler & Jimmy Kimmel. Despite a strong write in campaign & 91 ballot votes after being added Craig Ferguson was 19 votes short of making it to the next round. The sexiest actor & actress categories, the only categories where movie stars are eligible are often hotly contested, this year seems no different after round 1. On the actress side. Last years runner up came out swinging in round 1, as Zoie Palmer from "Lost Girl" took the top spot in the opening round with 8,592 votes, almost 2000 votes ahead of 2nd, her co-star Anna Silk. "Catching fire" hottie Jennifer Lawrence rounded out the top 4 well back. Others tto break the 1000 vote barrier, Ksenia Solo, Katie Cassidy & Anna Torv. The rest of the semi-finalists are Lana Parrilla, Alaina Huffman, Jennifer Morrison, Kat Dennings, Olivia Wilde, Kaley Cuoco, Stana Katic (last years winner), Emily Bett Rickards, Erica Durance (2011 winner), Ashley Benson, Sarah Bolger, Yvonne Strahovski, Shay Mitchell, Alison Brie, Nina Dobrev (via write in votes) Sarah Michelle gellar, Olivia Munn, Molly Quinn, Anna Faris & Melissa Rauch. The only top 10 finalist from last year (and the year before) to not make it this year was Jennifer Love Hewitt. Also should be noted, many write in nominees with 1, 2 or 3 votes maybe were missed, due to the MASSIVE amount of people who clearly are idiots & write in voted people already on the ballot, or men, thus making it almost impossible to correctly count all the votes. I tallied all the ones who clearly had larger totals, but those with less than 4, its possible I might have missed a few of you, sorry, it was just impossible to get thru ALL the votes, as there was 1336 write in votes & more than 1/2 of them were ineligible or already on the ballot. I will have more on this issue, and fall out from it when I do a blog on the entire first round later. On the mens side. Well. Something is clearly evident this year, the most decorated person in our 3 years of awards might be in for a fight this year for his categories. Two time sexiest actor winner Jensen Ackles finished a sobering 5th in round 1, and 2 competitors had more than double his vote total. Misha Collins, Jensens co-star on "Supernatural" lead the way narrowly, with a total of 20,928 votes, edging out "The Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley and his 20,353 votes. Currently uneployed Gale Harold rounds out the top 3 with 14,829 votes. There was a 4th person with over 10,000 votes this round, Ian Somerhalder. Jensen Ackles was 5th, ahead of his other co-star Jared Padalecki. The rest of the semi-finalists are Kris Holden-Ried, Christopher Heyerdahl, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin O'Donoghue, Tom welling, Johnny Depp, Chris Hemsworth, Shemar Moore, Tom Riley, Dylan O'Brien, Hugh Dancy, Martin Freeman, Chris Pine, Tom Mison, Chris Evans, Mads Mikkelsen (via write in votes) Stephen Amell, Thomas Gibson & Nathan Fillion. Two of last years top 10 did not make it to the semi-finals, Joshua Jackson, a 2X top 10 finalist, and Henry Cavill. |
