The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. The Finals for the 5th annual BOTVA's will begin in early 2015. But 1st we need candidates to compete in the finals. The results below are for the categories of Best Action or Drama Actor, Actress & Program Best Action or Drama Actor STEPHEN AMELL (Arrow) 633 CHRISTOPHER GORHAM (Covert Affairs) 403 JOHN BARROWMAN (Arrow) 399 MADS MIKKELSEN (Hannibal) 390 NATHAN FILLION (Castle) 361 ALEX O'LOUGHLIN 228 (Hawaii Five-O) 228 HUGH DANCY (Hannibal) 199 PAUL BLACKTHORNE(Arrow) 189 COLTON HAYNES (Arrow) 187 YANNICK BISSON (Murdoch Mysteries) 177 JAMES SPADER (The Blacklist) 150 BEN MCKENZIE (Gotham) 137 JON HUERTAS (Castle) 126, JOHNNY LEE MILLER (Elementary) 119, MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER (Criminal Minds) 116, JIM CAVIEZEL (Person Of Interest) 115, SHEMAR MOORE (Criminal Minds) 112, DAVID TENNANT (Gracepoint) 102, PATRICK DEMPSEY (Grey's Anatomy) 96, ALLAN HAWCO (Republic Of Doyle) 50 Best Action or Drama Actress EMILY BETT RICKARDS (Arrow) 648 STANA KATIC (Castle) 376 SUSANNA THOMPSON (Arrow) 254 CAITY LOTZ (Arrow) 178 WILLA HOLLAND (Arrow) 174 LUCY LIU (Elementary) 173 PAULEY PERRETTE (NCIS) 168 GRACE PARK (Hawaii Five-O) 165 MAGGIE SMITH (Downton Abbey) 154 HELENE JOY (Murdoch Mysteries) 144 AMY ACKER (Person Of Interest) 136 KATIE CASSIDY (Arrow) 133 MOLLY QUINN (Castle) 128, MARISKA HARTIGAY "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) 117, MEGAN BOONE (The Blacklist) 107, ELLEN POMPEO (Grey's Anatomy) 99, KERRY WASHINGTON (Scandal) 93, VERA FARMIGA (Bates Motel) 90, GEORGINA REILLY (Murdoch Mysteries) 67, ERICA DURANCE (Saving Hope) 54, KRYSTIN PELLERIN (Republic Of Doyle) 37, MONICA POTTER (Parenthood) 35 Best Action or Drama Program
ARROW 783 CASTLE 396 HANNIBAL 394 COVERT AFFAIRS 344 HAWAII FIVE-O 234 SHERLOCK 226 MURDOCH MYSTERIES 173 CRIMINAL MINDS 157 PERSON OF INTEREST 154 THE BLACKLIST 150 ELEMENTARY 129, RIZZOLI & ISLES 126, GREY'S ANATOMY 105, THE MENTALIST 90, DOWNTON ABBEY 81, CHICAGO FIRE 74, REVENGE 72, THE NEWSROOM 68, REPUBLIC OF DOYLE 51, PARENTHOOD 45, THE KILLING 43 The Best Action or Drama actor category had 1 of the few notable upsets of recent memory last year when secondary star John barrowman of Arrow beat out his own shows lead, and the defending 2 time winner Nathan Fillion from Castle to take the award. This year, those same top 3 finalists from last year are back & in the serious mix for this years honour. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham. The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible. The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Missing the mark this time were retired Breaking Bad, along with Rookie Blue, Elementary, Grey's Anatomy & The Mentalist. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE

This year he looks poised for another victory barring another Norman Reedus tweet style like in 2012 from 1 of the challengers. This year, the main challenger appears to be rookie sci-fi or fantasy drama star Grant Gustin from The Flash. With only 7 of last years 12 finalists back this year in the finals (although the entire top 6 is back), there is some new blood. Led of course by semi-finals runner up Grant Gustin, 4th place Clark Gregg of Agents Of SHIELD who was a semi-finalist last year, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game Of Thrones who seemingly replaced Kit Harington as the GoT 2nd challengers this year to Peter Dinklage. Another newcomer, Peter Capaldi from Doctor Who also makes it, and finally Colin O'Donoghue, a semi-finalist last year makes the finals this year. Last years runner up, Eric Balfour from haven is back, as are Peter Dinklage, Robert Carlyle & Misha Collins. Dinklage managed to place 3rd, but the other 2 barely scraped into the finals, in 10th & 11th, just ahead of the 2012 winner Reedus who slipped into the final spot by a mere 9 votes. The Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress category will more than likely have a new Winner this year. Last years winner Zoie Palmer is ineligible for the category this year because of the schedule that her show Lost Girl had this season. The 2012 winner Jennifer Morrison from Once Upon A Time is in the finals, but came in 5th, and was 2nd from her own show behind Lana Parrilla, and along with Ginnifer Goodwin makes 3 finalists for her show, and likely will cause a vote split to water down her chances of reclaiming the title. Tatiana Maslany from orphan Black comes in as the odds on favorite after her opening round 3rd place standing, she managed to win the semi-final vote. A 1st time finalist Lena Headey from Game Of Thrones finished 2nd in the semi-final vote ahead of another 1st time finalist Ming-Na Wen for Agents Of SHIELD. Last years runner up Emilia Clarke from Game Of Thrones came in 7th, while last years 3rd place finalist Emily Rose of Haven came in 4th. Agents Of SHIELD nabbed 2 other finalist spots with Chloe Bennet & Elizabeth Henstridge, giving them as many finalists as Once Upon A Time. Melissa McBride of The Walking Dead and Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who tied for the last 2 spots. Notable ommisions this year are Rachel Nichols from Continuum who finished 6th last year, Emilie de Ravin from Once Upon A Time who finished 8th & Lexa Doig from Continuum who finished 10th. All who made the semi-finals, but missed making the finals by varying margins. The Sci-Fi or Fantasy program category looks like it could be a battle for Supernatural to try & take its 4th title in the category. The semi-final vote went to Game Of Thrones with 336, a bit behind them was Supernatural still well in the mix at 308. Once Upon A Time managed a 3rd place showing. Last years runner up Lost Girl limped in at 9th, while the 3rd place finalist last year Doctor Who was 5th. Newcomers to the finals this year include Agents Of SHIELD in 4th, Orphan Black in 7th & The Vampire Diaries re-entering the finals for the 1st time since 2010 when it was entered as a Drama before the guidelines of the categories were more solidified, snuck in at 10th place. Only absentees from last year were the now retired Fringe, and Continuum. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. Neil Patrick harris of How I Met Your Mother winning the inagural title, Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory winning in 2012, Chris Colfer of Glee winning last years. This year, they go into the finals as the top 3 vote getters in the semi-finals with last years winner Colfer finishing with a massive lead. The likelyhood that this years winner will not be a former winner is pretty unlikely as 4th & 5th are both from shows that the top 3 are from, and finished well back. Perrenial 1st round powerhouse Timothy Omundson, in his characters swan song will take 1 last crack to win, but odds are steep as his co-star James Roday from Psych also made the finals, which will split the limited vote pootl of this show probably. Every finalist from last year is back this year except the late Cory Monteith from Glee. Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the only newcomer to the category finals. The Comedy Actress award looks poised to he another Big Bang Theory showdown with the only winners in the shows history. 2 Time winner Kaley Cuoco looks to defend her 2013 award against her co-star 2012 winner Mayim Bialik. Last years 3rd place finalist Alyson Hannigan from How I Met Your Mother, in her final run at the honour, again looks poised for a 3rd place finish if the semi-finals are an indication. 7 of the 10 finalists last year are back, only Zooey Deschanel, Alison Brie & Cobie Smulders are not back. Orange Is The New Black actresses Uzo Aduba & Taylor Schilling find themselves in the finals, along with Sofia Vergara from Modern Family for her 1st time and Amy Poehler of Parks & Recreation. The Comedy Program looks poised to stay in the hands of The Big Bang Theory. The only show to win ever Best Show category it is eligible for since the invention of these awards has the inside track on winning a 5th straight with continual contenders Glee & How I Met Your Mother making up the best chance at an upset. Psych in its final run will also take 1 last crack at the title in its 4th & final finals. Only newcomer to the mix this year is Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a semi-finalists in the New Progrma category last year. Tahmoh Penikett & Travis Aaron Wade look like they are in a race to see who will will. Of course, if Sherlock fans ever catch on in the finals, dont count out Benedict Cumberbatch, who because of the shortened seasons of Sherlock finds himself in this category without any complaints from his fans. Brandon Routh from Arrow, Curtis Armstrong from Supernatural and Kris Holden-Ried from Lost Girl all seem like they are within striking distance of making a run at the award as well. The Recurring Actress category. Historically known as the "favorite Supernatural Recurring actress" category with 3 seperate winners from the show in the past taking the award may be that again. But unlike on the mens side of the category, there does seem to be someone from outside the show looking to play upset. Katrina Law from Arrow finds herself sandwiched between last years 3rd place finalist Alaina Huffman & Erica Carroll from Supernatural in the top 3. 4th place in the finals went to Gillian Anderson from Hannibal, and she finds herself going into the finals again as a 4th place contender. Last years 5th place finalist Bex Taylor-Klaus from Arrow sneaks into the finals by just 7 votes, making it 3 repeat finalists in this category this year. Anna Silk & Ksenia Solo from Lost Girl made the finals, however last years Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress Zoie Palmer did not because of the voting penalties. I am going to take a moment here to talk about the voting penalties. I had 1 specific person whine A LOT about this. She went thru the trouble of making a long winded excuse why its unfair to Lost Girl specifically and post it on the blog post about the penalties, then when she was proven wrong with my reply, she took back to twitter (where she had badgered me with dozens of tweets PRIOR to the blog post) to bitch & whine about how unfair it is. She then posted a 22 paragraph rant on tumblr, and was again proven wrong with my 37 paragraph reply, and chose to delete my reply from her posts replies. I have no doubt that if this psycho had spent the same time SUPPORTING her favorites, instead of trying to coerce me to ignore the penalties that the shows fans earned, then perhaps the person most impacted by this, Zoie Palmer, would have made the finals of this category. I am quite confident this particular fanbase was capable of scrounging up 60 or so votes, they certainly do most times. To be honest, I thought even with the penalty levied against her, this was still going to be a cakewalk for the actress. Instead, her fans threw a temper tantrum, told people others they werent supporting these awards (like a person with a few 100 twitter followers is a vital endorsement... I dont even think with my 6000 followers I am a vital endorsement of ANYTHING). This 1 particular psycho spent HOURS trying to coerce, bully and defame me to change my mind. As you can see by the results, I did not. Perhaps her, and her supporters, and the fans of THIS SHOW SPECIFICALLY will understand in the future to read rules, and follow them. Instead of, as she put it "ASSUME" things would be how they want them to be. I openly stated I hope these penalties affect at least 1 of the shows candidates from making a finals just to make sure they understand the severity of their punishment... well, they paid for it big time. Choosing the category that they likely valued the most next to best couple to boycott cost them the chance to see their favorite win back to back years in different categories, to be the 1st non-SPN winner of the category. History could have been made. Instead, they whined. Just like Breaking Bad fans did when the show wasnt eligble for the Emmys 1 year, and Fringe fans did last year when their leads were ineligible for the main actor/actress categories, just as Sherlock fans did this year.....wait, correction. I never heard a peep out of ANY of those fanbases over those. Ok, stepping off my soapbox now. Arrow has 2 of the top 3, including John Behring for "Unthinkable" as the top vote getter, narrowly beating out 2012 winner Jensen Ackles for "Soul Survivor" on Supernatural. Douglas Aarniokoski on "Seeing Red" rounds out the bookends of the Arrow Supernatural Arrow trio. Amanda Tapping managed 2 finalist spots with her 2 part Continuum episodes. Besides 2012 winner Ackles, Pamela Fryman "How Your Mother Met Me" is the only other previous contender for Best Director, making the semi-finals last year. Last years winning show Glee, had no finalists this year as their 2 semi-finalist contenders did not advance. The Best Episode category, aka - "favorite Supernatural episode" in the years past could be a hard one to predict. Supernatural is well represented in the finals. SEVEN finalists for the 3X Winning show, Arrow and Lost Girl managed 5, while Castle has 4. While it would SEEM to be a safe bet with Arrow & Supernatural dominating the top 8 spots that they are a shoe in to win, theres then the fact that in the finals the amount of challengers you can vote for will be limited to 2 or 3. Vote splitting is always a problem when a show shoves too many of its challengers into a finals. Perhaps The Flash or Murdoch Mysteries with their 1 singular nominee will win because their fans will not be split on who to vote for. Also, an error occurred in listing for a couple days of this category. One of the Arrow finalists, The Secret Origins Of Felicity Smoak was mistakenly listed as Draw Back Your Bow for awhile, so if you voted for DBYB & wonder where it is.... is was changed to TSOOFS during the round after the error was noticed. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. The Finals for the 5th annual BOTVA's will begin in early 2015. But 1st we need candidates to compete in the finals. The results below are for the categories of Best Couple and Animated Program Total votes are in RED Finalists are in BOLD TEXT Best Couple OLIVER QUEEN & FELICITY SMOAK (Arrow) 833 KURT HUMMEL & BLAINE ANDERSON (Glee) 389 DR. THE SIMPSONS 57 FAMILY GUY 39 SOUTH PARK 30 THE LEGEND OF KORRA 28 FUTURAMA 23 BOBS BURGERS 22 ARCHER 21 AMERICAN DAD 14, MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC 14, ROBOT CHICKEN 4 Best Couple category seems to be in the middle of a changing of the guard. Only 4 of last years finalists made the finals this year. With only 1 of the finalists last year being retired, that means 5 couple from last year did not make this years finals who were there last year. Crazier yet, Once Upon A Time had 2 couples in last year, neither of them made it this year... including last years runner ups in the finals, but a completely different couple did. Last years winner Dr. Lauren Lewis & Bo Dennis from Lost Girl are back, despite their penalties and have brought along another couple from their show Kenzie & Hale Santiago. The couple known as Doccubus main competition looks to be coming from newcomer couple Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak from Arrow, Olicity garnered nearly double the votes of the 2 time champ. Richard Castle & Kate Beckett of Castle (aka - Caskett), the other winner of this award in 2012 is still in the fight too, along with last years break out couple Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson from Glee (aka - Klaine) who finished 3rd in this years semi-final voting. In the category of "odd" has to be the case of Felicity Smoak. The character (played by the same actress) is going into the finals in 2 different couples....on 2 different shows. Definitely a 1st. The Animated category returns after being removed for 2 years due to a lack of contenders and interest. The former champion is again looking poised to win again as The Simpsons won the semi-finals. After finishing 2nd in the opening round to a show that failed to make the finals, it seems pretty clear the winner is probably going to the longest running prime time animated program ever. Family Guy, South Park & The Legend Of Korra all look like they will at least give the champion SOME fight, but this seems more of a battle for 2nd than any potential winner coming out of the group. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE |
