The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Favorite TV Character is.... Felicity Smoak "Arrow" After 4 years of Dean Winchester from "Supernatural" as the pollsters Favorite Character, we have a new winner. Felicity Smoak (played by Emily Bett Rickards) "Arrow" won the honour this year with a new record 1,340 votes, surpassing the old record from 2011 of 1165 by Dean Winchester. Her margin of victor of 318 is also a new record, breaking the record of 186 from last year by Dean Winchester. Ms. Smoak has had an interesting year. She had her crush tell her he loves her, was used to help her crush/boss take down Deathstroke, and got a new boss at her day job. Felicity has certainly become a fan favorite in the short time of the show. This was the 2nd year felicity was in the finals, finishing 4th last year & showing she might be a force to be reckoned with someday. Runner up this year goes to Kenzi from "Lost Girl" with 1,022 votes. This is the 3rd year in a row that someone from the show was runner up, after 2 consecutive years of Lauren Lewis being there the fans opted this time to choose a character that died this past year on the show. Last year Kenzi was 14th. After 4 consecutive awards, Dean Winchester "Supernatural" finishes in an unfamiliar 3rd with 822 votes. In 4th is Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" 786, up from the 7th place she was last year. In 5th was Richard Castle "Castle" with 779, the characters highest ever finish was 13th last year. In 6th was Oliver Queen/Arrow "Arrow" up from lat years 11th place finish. In 7th was Kate Beckett "Castle" which is a sharp rise from the 19th she placed last year. Regina Mills/Evil Queen "Once Upon A Time" was 8th, dropping slightly from 6th last year, Hannibal Lecter "Hannibal" finished 9th one spot lower than his 8th place finish last year. Sam Winchester was 12th, dropping from his 5th place spot last year. While Castiel "Supernatural" last years 3rd place finalist, and the only person besides Dean Winchester to be on the top 5 list every yead, dropped all the way to 13th this year. Kurt Hummel slipped to 14th this year after being 10th last year. Emma Swan "Once Upon A Time" in 24th returns to the finals for the 1st time since 2012. Odd statistical anomaly, Amy Farrah Fowler "The Big Bang Theory" in 40th has made the finals 4 times, and has finished last in 3 of the 4 years. With this years finals extended from 25 to 40 finalists, theres quite a few newcomers to the finals. Newcomers to the list this year include... Malcolm Merlyn "Arrow" in 10th, Sara Lance/Canary "Arrow" in 11th, William Murdoch "Murdoch Mysteries" 15th, Sherlock Holmes "Sherlock" 16th, Julia Ogden "Murdoch Mysteries" 17th, The Doctor "Doctor Who" 20th, Daryl Dixon "The Walking Dead" 21st, Philip Coulson "Agents Of SHIELD" 22nd, Samantha Groves/Root "Person Of Interest" 23rd, Barry Allen/The Flash "The flash" 26th, Skye "Agents Of SHIELD" 27th, Raymond Reddington "The Blacklist" 29th, Spencer Reid "Criminal Minds" 30th, Clara Oswald "Doctor Who" 32nd, Carol Peletier "The Walking Dead" 34th, Nyssa al Ghul "Arrow" 35th, Oswald Cobblepot "Gotham" 36th, Rick Grimes "The Walking Dead" 38th and John Watson "Sherlock" 39th. 1st FELICITY SMOAK "ARROW" 1340 *New Record*

Last years runner up Lost Girl took 3rd and is still a threat if their fans decide to try. Only shows that did not make the finals that did last season were Continuum, Hannibal, Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow & retired Fringe. Newcomers to the finals are Agents Of SHIELD, Murdoch Mysteries, Orange Is The New Black, Sherlock & The Flash. The Favorite Character category again sees the defending 4 time champion Dean Winchester "Supernatural" not going in as the favorite based on the Semi-Final vote. This year however, he has 1 less challenger to threaten his title as the 2012 & 2013 runner up was penalized heavily for her fans refusal to follow rules, and it cost her. Castiel from "Supernatural", last years semi-final runer up & finalist 3rd place competitor goes into the finals as the semi-final leader. 20 of the 25 finalists last year are in again. Only exclusions are the now retired Fringe duo of Walter Bishop & Olivia Dunham, How I Met Your Mother character Barney Stinson in his last run, Sherlock Holmes from Elementary, although should be noted Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock is in this year, and finally Dr. Lauren Lewis of Lost Girl who only failed to make it due to a fan boycott due to the penalties levied....although they had no problem putting their 2 other stars through. Newcomers are plenty, most notable Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow, Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock & William Murdoch & Julia Ogden of Murdoch Mysteries. All of whom passed 100 votes in the semi-finals. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE The Best Of TV Awards 2013 winner in the category of Favorite TV Character is Dean Winchester "Supernatural". For the 4th consecutive year, the sharp tongued demon slaying older Winchester brother was voted the favorite character by the fans. Deans dominance of the category hit a new high this year, as he garnered his largest margain of victory with a 755 votes to runner up, for a 2nd time, is 3X finalist Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 569 votes, giving him a 186 vote victory. In 3rd was 4X finalist Castiel "Supernatural" with 454 votes. In 4th was Felicity Smoak "Arrow", 5th was 4X finalists Sam Winchester "Supernatural", 6th was Regina/Evil Queen "Once Upon A Time". 7th was last years 3rd place finalist & 3X finalist Bo "Lost Girl". In 8th Dr. Hannibal Lecter "Hannibal". 9th was Crowley "Supernatural". 10th Kurt Humme; "Glee". With the exception of this years defeat for best actor in sci-fi, Ackles/Winchester, has won 2 Best actor, 2 favorite character & even a best director award on our site in the past 3 years. Winning isn't really something this actor/character is a stranger to. Doing it without dominating, without being the top choice throughout, that is something new. The only round Dean Winchester was the top vote getter in was the final round. As far as favorites go, there was no shocks with the finalists. All 4 finalists have won awards or honours on our site. The only mild suprise might have been Daryl Dixon from "The Walking Dead" or Olivia Dunham from "Fringe" not going deeper into the tourney than they did. Runner up, Richard Castle from "Castle" managed a tournament high 806 votes in the semi-finals, but managed only 1/2 that many votes in the finals. Like Dean, Rick Castle actor Nathan Fillion has multiple awards on our site. With 2 Best actor awards for action/drama, he is no stranger to winning either. This year however, they just couldnt sustain the wave of support they generated in the semi-finals. Maybe some of the 806 votes they grabbed in the semis were Dean Winchester fans, voting against the 2012 winner Lauren lewis, who castle was against that round. Unlike the TV show turnament, the character tourney had fewer suprises. Of the final 4, no one ranked lower than 3rd in their bracket going in. While some mild outside contenders made it to the elite 8, 10th ranked Sam Winchester, Deans brother on SPN & their nemesis Crowley, ranked 5th in his bracket, as well as Kenzi from Lost Girl at 11th & Oliver Queen of "Arrow" at 13th gave the Elite 8 a "anything can happen" feel still, but in the end, the veterans of awards & honours on our site pulled through 7 made the final 4 an exclusive club of "winners only". Like with any tournament, there will always be some who did better than expected. The previously mentioned 4 elite 8 finalists for example. In round 1, 13 of the 32 rounds went to the lower ranked competitor. By round 3, there was still 6 of 16 challengers that were in the bottom half of their brackets rankings going in. This of course means, many contenders were made out to be pretenders early on. With a #2 ranked & 2 #3 ranked contenders knocked out in the 1st round, the character tourney was full of upsets. Dean Winchester had 1629 votes in the tournament, 474 of those, their highest total, in the finals. Richard Castle had 1760 votes, but with 806 of those in the semi-final round being their highest total. A total of 13380 votes were cast in all the rounds. Largest margain of victory was in round 1. Dr. Lauren Lewis beating Pacey Witter by 276 votes 298-22. Smallest margainw as also in round 1, 2 votes is all that seperated Fox Mulder from another X-Files character Dana Scully in a 31-29 score. This is the 4th award or honour for Dean Winchester, along with 2 Best actor awards for Jensen Ackles, brings the combo up to 6 total awards/honours for the character/actor. Congratulations to the fans of Dean Winchester for making him the 2013 May Madness Favorite TV Character winner. I am sure in a few months when the nomination process for the 2013 BOTVA awards starts up, Dean/Jensen/SPN will get lots of nominations again. A series of run off polls took place, with results set to give those who had the best results in the 1st round of polls the best chance at a spot in the run off votes, while still giving those who didnt do as well in the 1st round of polls a chance still at a spot in the tournament. 15 shows have more than 1 challenger, with Supernatural having 7 & Once Upon A Time having 4. 23 spots are taken by characters that are on shows which have ended, or are currently in limbo. Soon, 32 of these names will be eliminated. Voting has begun, the first group of 8 match ups in TV Shows, and TV characters are here http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/tv-showdowns---show-vs-show-character-vs-character-battle.html for you to vote on. Below are the results from the voting on the nominees that decided the challengers in this tournament that did not get automatic spots (automatic spots were given to all BOTVA award winners & former May Madness winners) The Favorite TV Character of 2012 as voted by you the fans was.. DEAN WINCHESTER "SUPERNATURAL".
The 1st 3 time award winner... Dean Winchester. For the 3rd time in a row, Dean beat the competition like they were a Leviathan or a demon. As the sharp tongued world saving older brother of the bad everything fighting Winchester Brothers overcomes everything again this year...including a vacation in Purgatory. For the 3rd straight time, a different runner up. This time "Lost Girl" Dr. Lauren Lewis provided the closest challenge to date only 32 votes back. Another Lost Girl, the succubus Bo took the last spot on the podium, beating out another SPN star, angel Castiel. In the final season of their show "Leverage" the slightly crazy thief Parker finishes 5th. Crime writer turned fighter Richard Castle inches up 1 spot this year to 6th, beating 2010 finalist the murderous Dexter Morgan for 7th. Part of the world saving team from "Fringe" Peter Bishop took 8th, while 9th & 10th were "Psych" crime fighters Burton Guster & Carlton Lassiter. Dean Winchester beat runner up Dr. Lauren Lewis by 32 votes, 3rd "Lost Girl" Bo was 90 behind 2nd and 38 votes ahead of 4th place Castiel from "Supernatural". 5th place Parker from "Leverage" finished a mere 7 votes out of 4th Dean Winchester scores a hat trick. 3 years in a row for the Supernatural older brother. There have only been 3 characters to be in the finals all 3 years (of course only 10 finalists this year limited the amount of repeats). Dean & Castiel from SPN & Parker from "Leverage" are the only 3 time finalists, and with Leverage ending... there is no way to have all 3 of them next year. "Fringe" has managed a finalist in each of the years, with Walter Bishop in 2010, Olivia Dunham, Walter & Peter Bishop in 2011, and of course Peter again this year. They will have 1 more chance next year. Dexter Morgan of "Dexter" becomes the 1st nominee to be in the 1st year, miss a year, and come back again. Final vote totals Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 374 Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 342 Bo "Lost Girl" 252 Castiel "Supernatural" 214 Parker "Leverage" 207 Richard Castle "Castle" 131 Dexter Morgan "Dexter" 125 Peter Bishop "Fringe" 95 Burton Guster "Psych" 77 Carlton Lassiter "Psych" 72 |
