Best Of TV Awards 2015 - WINNER - Best Non-Human Character or Prop - THE IMPALA "Supernatural"2/11/2016  Photo Credit - The CW The 2015 Best Of TV Awards Winner for Best Non-Human Character or Prop is The Impala "Supernatural". Another win for the car known by its fanbase as "Baby". This caps off a pretty special year for the 1967 Impala, as it had its own episode this year, of course titled "Baby" where the majority of the episode was filmed from inside the car. This marks the 5th consecutive win for The Impala from "Supernatural". Currently tying it (pending award for Best Comedy Program being named) for most consecutive Award Wins with The Big Bang Theory for Best Comedy Program. The German Shepherd known as Bear from "Person of Interest" in its 2nd consecutive finals, finished 2nd & had the lead for the first few days of voting, but eventually was overtaken. In 3rd was The Machine from "Person Of Interest" making its first finals appearance since last being there in 2012. The TARDIS from "Doctor Who" slips 1 spot from their 3rd place finish last year to finish 4th this year in its 2nd finals. The Lazarus Pit "Arrow" makes it to 5th in its first year. The ATOM Suit "Arrow" nabbed 6th in its 1st year, Rumplestiltskins Dagger (probably will be renamed next year since its not REALLY just his) gets 7th in its 3rd year in the finals. The Flash Suit "The Flash" last years runner up finished 8th. A thing I have pointed out year after year to fanbases surely cost Person Of Interest this year a chance to knock off the now 5X champion. Vote splitting. With 2nd & 3rd place going to the show, they had a combined 1163 votes, but have to settle for 2nd & 3rd respectively because of how those votes were doled out amongst their fans. This will not be the only award decided by vote splitting this year. This year however, in their 11th season SPN might be in a fight for the 2015 award. Lost Girl, the 2013 runner up made noise in the semi-final voting leading the way over 2nd year TNT hit The Librarians, and Forever from ABC. Both making the finals for the first time. Supernatural was still in the mix, finishing 4th, just ahead of The Flash, the 2014 Best New Program winner. Once Upon A Time, the 2011 New Program winner is also in the finals, along with the 2012 Best Sci-Fi /Fantasy Program Winner The Walking Dead. Agents Of SHIELD is back in the finals after last years final appearance. Game Of Thrones is back for their 3rd straight finals appearance. Doctor Who, last years runner up & the 2013 3rd place finisher, sneaks into the finals in the last spot by only 5 votes. The Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actor Category semi-final vote was led by Jensen Ackles from "Supernatural". This shouldnt seem like a shock to anyone considering Mr. Ackles is the owner of the most awards in BOTVA history. The shocker... he only led by ONE vote over his co-star Jared Padalecki. This is the 5th year in a row Jared has made the finals, unfortunately, in each of his previous attempts, he has managed to never finish better than 3rd in 2011. Also making the finals from SPN is Misha Collins for his 5th time. Christian Kane from "The Librarians" & Ioan Gruffudd "Forever" finished 4th & 5th & finds their way to the finals for the 1st time. Robert Carlyle "Once Upon A Time" is in the finals for a 4th time, hoping to better his 4th place finishes of 2011 and 2013. The only winner of this award in the 3 years of its existence seems poised to take it again. The two time runner up Jimmy Fallon finds himself finishing 2nd again to Ellen in this round. Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien all make the finals for a fourth time, along with John Oliver in his 2nd finals. Last years field had 8 finalists, this year only 6. Former 2X finalists David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel both missed the finals with Kimmel not even making the semi-finals. The Best Writing Category has most of the same shows that made the inagural awards final round last year. Only Orange Is The New Black and the currently inactive Sherlock did not make it back to this years finals. A few new shows to the finals made the finals this year. Person of Interest and Agents Of SHIELD were strong contenders, both finishing in the top 4 in the semi-finals. Another pack of four newcomers to the finals followed not too much furtner behind, The 100, Once Upon A Time, Agent Carter & Daredevil all made the finals as well. Last years winner, Arrow, is back in the finals as the vote leader in the semi-finals, after a modest 5th place showing in the opening round. In a rare feat, Arrow actually increased its vote total from round 1 where there was no limit to voting, to round 2 where there was a 1 per voting restriction. the two opening round voting goliaths, hannibal & Person of Interest had somewhat different round 2 successes. While both qualified for the finals, POI managed to stick around in 2nd, while Hannibal fell back to 10th. last years runner up, Lost Girl also qualified, but barely, sneaking in down at 11th. The Best Stunts Category also won by Arrow last year looks poised for a possible repeat performance this year. Much like the writing category, almost everyone from last year is back. Only Supernatural didnt make it back to the finals this year, being replaced by newcomer Daredevil. The difference between last year & this year seems to be who the contenders to Arrows title might be. Last years runner ups Lost Girl and the eliminated Supernatural dropped considerably this year, while two also rans in the finals last year Person Of Interest and The Flash find themselves going into the finals as the contenders. The 6th annual BOTVA's are still closing out some polls for the run off round before we advance to the finals. We've already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record of 575,000 votes in a year looks sure to fall as we passed the 560,000 vote mark in the semi-finals & nearly broke the 570,000 mark. Only finalists last year to miss the mark this year were two of my faves, Molly Quinn & Jennifer Love Hewitt. Despite the finalists list expanding from 16 to 20. Newcomers to the finals this year will include Amy Acker, Sarah Shahi, Gillian Anderson, Hayley Atwell, Elizabeth Henstridge, Grace Park. The last 3 winners, Emily Bett Rickards, Jennifer Lawrence and Stana Katic are all in this years finals. Along with 4 time top 3 finalist Zoie Palmer. In a rare occurance in these awards, pretty much all the leaders in the nomination round were near the top in the semi-finals. The top 4 in this round, Rickards, Acker, Shahi, Palmer, were also the top 4 in the opening round. As well, Anderson, Silk and Parrilla in the opening round all finished in the top 8 & did so here as well. This is nothing short of rare for these awards, as the opening round often sees 1 or 2 hopefuls being propped up by a couple enthusiastic supporters fall by the wayside in round 2 when the voting is limited to 1 each. Last years winner Emily Bett Rickards had sizable leads in the 1st & 2nd rounds & would seem like a good bet to repeat this year. The Sexiest Actor Category was not so predictable. While last years winner Stephen Amell did lead the semi-final voting, he was an adequate 8th in the opening round. The Nomination round vote leader Mads Mikkelsen continued with trying to make an impact by coming in 2nd in the semi-finals. His co-star, who finished 2nd in round 1, didnt even qualify for the finals. Strange to say the least, its usually not till the finals that fandoms abandon a 2nd choice when voting is streamlined to only 1 or 2 picks. Another top 5 opening round vote getter didnt make the finals, Vincent D'Onofrio, as the power of the small handful of voters he had in the first round couldnt get enough of their fans to follow suit in round 2. Jim Caviezel, Jared Padalecki & Chris Hemsworth round out the top 5 in the semi-finals. Only Caviezel was a top 5 name after round one of voting. Three time winner Jensen Ackles qualified for the finals in 7th, the lowest hes ever come into the finals at. The Best Non-Human Character or Prop category looks poised to potentially have a new winner. The four time winner, The Impala from "Supernatural" seems to have some stiff competition this year. The "Person Of Interest" dog Bear has led the voting in both rounds, with another POI candidate second in both, The Machine. While The Impala did improve from the 1st round to the 2nd round by going from a 5th place showing up to a 3rd place showing & was less than 100 votes behind the leader, this is clearly the first ever sign of any challenge to the defending 4X champions crown. Interestingly the 3rd place finisher in round 1, did not even make the finals, finishing 2nd to last. While the last place qualifier in round 1 finished in the top 5 this round. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Program is.... SUPERNATURAL (CW) Four wins in 5 years for the show about a couple brothers who hunt evil things, while angels & demons help & hinder their jobs. Supernatural wins in the smallest margin of victory in the history of the category, 925 votes narrowly beats this years runner up, last years 3rd place finalist Doctor Who by 18, with 907. In 3rd is the 2011 Best New Program winner & last years 6th place finalist Once Upon A Time with 742 votes. In 4th is Agents of SHIELD with 572. In 5th is Game Of Thrones, the same spot it had last year. In 6th is the 2012 Sci-Fi or Fantasy Program winner The Walking Dead. In 7th is last years runner up Lost Girl. In 8th was the 2013 Best New Program winner Orphan Black. In 9th, Haven took a steep drop from last years 4th.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actor is.... Jensen Ackles "Supernatural" For the 4th time in 5 years Jensen Ackles "Supernatural" wins Best Sci-Fi or fantasy Actor honours. This time Ackles, who brings to life sharp tongued, sometimes demon, sometimes hunter, all the time bad ass (except when he has Ghost sickness) Dean Winchester on "Supernatural" beat out newcomer Grant Gustin "The Flash" by 85 votes to win. In 3rd was another newcomer Peter Capaldi "Doctor Who" with 680 votes. In 4th is Clark Gregg "Agents Of SHIELD" in his 1st year in the finals. In 5th is the 2013 3rd place finalist Peter Dinklage "Game Of Thrones". The 6th place finalist is the 2012 Winner in this category Norman Reedus "The Walking Dead". Just two votes back in 7th was last years 4th place finsher Robert Carlyle "Once Upon A Time". In 8th Colin O’Donoghue "Once Upon A Time" in his 1st finals. In 9th is Eric Balfour "Haven" with 273 votes, considering the heavy twitter traffic his fans had for him, this is a suprisingly low finish. In 10th is Jared Padalecki "Supernatural" marking the lowest finish for him, last year was 6th. In 11th was last years 5th place finalist Misha Collins. In 12th is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau "Game Of Thrones" with 97 votes.
