Best Comedy Program had an unexpected 1st round leader. "Wilfred" on the FX channel had 1561 votes to lead all 1st round votes. The defending 3 time winner "The Big Bang Theory" (CBS) was a distant 2nd at 1067. With its final season around the corner USA network comedy "Psych" rounded out the top 3.

Parks & Recreation (NBC) & How I Met Your Mother (CBS) round out the top 5.

Other semi-finalists "Glee", "New Girl" & "Raising Hope" (FOX), "2 Broke Girls" (CBS), "Community", "30 Rock" (NBC) "Modern Family" (ABC), "Veep", "Girls" (HBO) & "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX).

In the Comedy Actor Category. 

Last year Timothy Omundson of "Psych" came out of round 1 with a large lead, and has dne it again. 1317 votes cast put him well ahead of the rest. Last years winner Jim Parsons "The Big Bang Theory" came in 2nd, with the 2011 winner Neil Patrick Harris "How I Met Your Mother" 3rd.

Omundson wont be alone from "Psych" as his castmates James Roday & Dule Hill came in 4th & 5th in the 1st round voting.

The Comedy Actress category. 

The 2011 winner in this category came out ahead narrowly in round 1. Kaley Cuoco "The Big Bang Theory" had 107 votes, just 3 ahead of Kat Dennings "2 Broke Girls" & 11 ahead of last years winner Mayim Bialik "The Big Bang Theory" & 3rd place last year Zooey Deschanel "New Girl". With back-to-back titles going to The Big Bang Theory girls, will they make it a 3peat.

Favorite Show does not look like a cakewalk for last years winner "Supernatural". In fact they came in 2nd in round 1, by a lot, to "Lost Girl" & their 3402 votes. Rounding out the top 3 was  another CW show "The Vampire Diaries".

The rest of the top 5 was filled out by 2 ABC shows "Once Upon A Time" & "Castle"

The Favorite Character category, possibly the most popular of the categories year after year had a staggering 104 nominees on the ballot by the time it closed after countless write in campaigns pushed previously un-nominated favorites onto the ballot.

The 3 time winner of this category, Dean Winchester "Supernatural" might be in a real dog fight this year if his 9th place 1st round showing is a sign. Damon Salvatore "The Vampire Diaries" was leader of round 1 with a total of 22,826 votes, edging out "Lost Girl" Dr. Lauren Lewis by only a few hundred votes. Rounding out the top 3 was another Lost Girl, Bo.

The top 5 were rounded out by Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold "Once Upon A Time" & Castiel "Supernatural"

ALL FINALISTS FROM 2012 that are still eligible this year in their category are already automatically nominated.
All finalists from 2012 who have too many or too few credits to meet the requirements of the category this year, may have been re-assigned to the category they now qualify for.
All 2013 Peoples Choice, Golden Globes & Emmy Awards finalists have also been automatically nominated in their category of choice, or, if credit requirements are not met, re-assigned to the proper category.

Best Recurring categories - (formerly "supporting") Minimum 3 - Maximum 7 episodes in 2013 (nominees may be upgraded to the main category if they get past 7 episodes between the time of their nomination & the voting starts) on the show they are being nominated for.
Best Guest Star category - Minimum 1 - Maximum 2 episodes in 2013 (nominees may be promoted to Recurring, or even to main categories if their episode totals exceed 2 after the time of their nomination 7 before the time of voting) on the show they are being nominated for.
Best Show categories - For shows who aired PRIOR to 2013 (even if only 1 episode) and still airing IN 2013 (even if only 1 episode)
Best New Show Category - Premiere date was in the year 2013. Shows not yet aired, but have a definitive 2013 airing date can be nominated.
Favorite categories - Any show or actor on TV in 2013 can be eligible in their assigned categories.
Best Talk Show Host - Any person who interviews guests for a talk show format. Day time or Night time.
Best Director - For directing an episode in the year 2013 that aired prior to the start of the voting process.
Best Episode - For an episode with an original airing date in the year 2013 that aired prior to the start of the voting process.
Best Couple - Must have shared some romantic element (married, dating, 1 night hook up, a kiss with clear romantic tone) on the show in the year of 2013.
Sexiest actor/actress - Any actor or actress, on TV or in Movies over the age of 18.
Best Non-Human Character or Prop - Any character or prop NOT PLAYED by a human.
Best Youth Actor/Actress - Minimum 3 episodes on a TV program in the year 2013, under the age of 20 years at the start of the 2013 calendar year.
Best Newcomer - Actor/actress who has never had a recurring or lead TV role, or lead movie role prior to a role they started in 2013 that they have played at least 3 episodes of. 

To be eligible, a show, character, actor or other, must have met the guidelines for inclusion in the year 2013 ONLY. No shows that ended in 2012 or prior are eligible for any nominations.

The 2013 MAY MADNESS winner for favorite TV Show - LEVERAGE (TNT)

I have seen lots of "save our show" campaigns over the years. In the new era of instant info coming across our computers, smartphones & TV's, pretty much every show with more than 10 viewers has had 1. Sadly, most dont do well at generating the attention they need. Some, have done it quite well. For the TNT recently canceled crime drama "Leverage" proof of their well constructed efforts is seen everywhere since the cancellation was announced shortly before the series finale aired on Christmas Day. Winner of the 2013 Peoples Choice Award for best Cable drama, finishing 2nd on the TV.Com Best of 2012 vote for "Best Procedural" behind "Castle and now of course, winner of May Madness for "favorite TV show".

Going into this tournament, I considered Levarege an "outside favorite". There was a block of shows I considered the probable winners of their divisions. The Walking Dead, Lost Girl, Fringe, The Big Bang Theory. Castle, Supernatural & Once Upon A Time all came in to this event with a history of winning on their side. Each show having won multiple awards on my site, or been in the thick of things repeatedly.  I expected my final 2 combatants would come from that small circle.  While 3 of the final 4 did come from there, the 1 that wasnt from that group, Leverage, went on to win it all.

 As for the runner up. Lost Girl 1st came into the attention of my site in 2011 when competition for the "Best Of TV Awards 2011" voting started & their lesbian couple Bo & Lauren were making waves in voting for Best Couple. They would eventually go on to win, giving Lost Girl their 1st, and to date still, only award on the site. Last year, Dr. Lauren Lewis also won favorite character honour in May Madness. Despite continually being in the top 5 in most categories they are in, they always seem to start strong, but finish around the same level of enthusiasm they started with. They have some close calls, Runner up in 2011 for BOTVA Sexiest actress. Runner Up 2012 BOTVA Favorite Character. But the show always seems to come up a bit short, finishing 3rd & 4th in some votes, never yet having won any awards for the show.

The "usual suspects" for winning awards, for the mostpart, did well in May Madness. The semi-finals, along with Leverage & Lost Girl, had regular contenders The Big Bang Theory & The Walking Dead also in the mix. Other shows that usually make long runs, Supernatural was knocked out in round 3 by champion Leverage, while in round 2 Once Upon A Time got beat by Supernatural in an early battle of heavyweights. Fringe on the other hand lost in round 3 to eventual runner up, Lost Girl. While Castle met the same fate in round 4.

In the category of shows who did better than expected. Rookie action show Arrow made it all the way to the elite 8 group in round 4, as did long since canceled Buffy The Vampire Slayer. On the other hand, suprising early exits could Firefly, Eureka, Burn Notice or Community probably shocked most people. 

From pure raw votes standpoint, Leverage had 1981 votes over the 6 rounds, amassing their most votes in the final round with 846. Lost Girl had more votes over the tourney with 2247, but managed only their 3rd best round in the finals. Largest margain of victory was 457 by Leverage, over Lost Girl in the finals.  Smallest margains of victory was 2, by Twin Peaks over Corner Gas and with Hannibal over Dawsons Creek both in round 1. A total of 12201 votes were cast, the finalists combined, had 34.6% of all the votes cast in the tournament (of course, benefit of the extra round(s) helped)

This is the 1st, and depending what format May Madness takes, if it does continue in the future, could be the last honour Leverage might win on my site. As they will not be eligible for any 2013 awards due to the timing of its final episode..... if only it had aired 1 week later. 

Congratulations to the fans of Leverage for making your show the 2013 May Madness Favorite TV show winner. Congrats to the writers, creators, producers, crew & cast of the show for making a show your fans were so passionate about. I watched the show, I was a fan. It is a shame that TNT failed to see the value in it. Maybe the fans of it can take a page out of a May Madness round 3 competitor this year, Veronica Mars and put the $ together for a movie?
