The 2015 Best Of TV Awards are about to start the Finals soon. The 6th annual BOTVA's are still closing out some polls for the run off round before we advance to the finals. We've already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record of 575,000 votes in a year. The Semi-Final rounds for Favorite TV Program, Favorite TV Character, Best Couple categories took place a couple weeks ago. Second and third were newcomers to the finals The 100 and Person of Interest. Other newcomers to the finals that were not there last year include How To Get Away With Murder, Daredevil, iZombie & Greys Anatomy. Not making the finals this year who were there last were Castle, Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries, Doctor Who, The Flash, The Big Bang Theory. The Favorite TV Character Category is always possibly one of the most sought titles here. This year seems to be no different as 3 finalists got over the 1000 vote mark and another was close. Defending champion Felicity Smoak from "Arrow" finds herself fending off challenges from three "Person Of Interest" challengers (would have been more if it werent for the new rule about a maximum of 3 candidates in a category from any show). Root, aka - Samantha Groves (the 2015 May Madness character winner) led voting barely over her co-star Sameen Shaw. Harold Finch, another POI character finished 4th not far behind. Only 4 people left from the first ever Favorite Character Finals that are eligible, and all 4 of them, for a 4th consecutive year still find themselves in the finals. 3 time winner Dean Winchester, along with his co-star Castiel from "Supernatural", as well as Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" and Richard Castle "Castle" all managed spots in the finals again. With the list expanding from 40 to 55 names this year, there was a lot of newcomers to the finals. Most notably Sameen Shaw in 2nd & Harold Finch in 4th from Person Of Interest. John Diggle from Arrow in 10th is in the finals, at the expense of 3 Arrow characters that made last years finals when there was no cap on finalists from a show. Several shows have finalists who either were not even around last year, or had never managed a finalist prior to now. The 100 with 3, iZombie, Rookie Blue, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt all with 2 each, Agent Carter, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Daredevil, How To Get Away With Murder with 1 each. Missing from the finals this year however from last years list is last years runner up Kenzi from "Lost Girl" probably due to her lack of screen time this year. Sara Lance/Canary from Arrow also missed out due to the maximum candidates rule. Both candidates from the Murdoch Mysteries, William Murdoch & Julie Ogden fell well short in the semi-finals this year, with Ogden finishing last. Sherlock Holmes & John Watson from "Sherlock" of course missed this years due to the shows hiatus. The Best Couple Category is another hotly contested award here every year. For such a pointless award compared to more respectable titles it does garner a lot of very crazy and some very passionate fans. This year has been mired in controversy of course, again, as it is almost every year. But again the "Arrow" combo of Oliver Queen & his now fiance Felicity Smoak (aka "Olicity") led the semi-final voting over the very unstable sort of couple of Root & Shaw (aka "Shoot") from "Person of Interest". Clarke & Lexa (Clexa) from "The 100" were a bit further behind in 3rd. The top 4 finalists from last year all find themselves back in the finals again. Along with Olicity, Castle & Beckett "Caskett", Bo & Lauren "Docubbus" & Emma & Hook "CaptainSwan" all made the finals again. Missing the finals this year are Kenzi & Hale from Lost Girl due to 1 or both characters not being on the show anymore. Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson from "Glee" who seemingly were replaced by another Glee couple it seems. Damon & Elena from "The Vampire Diaries" which was a mild shock to me, but with 1 of the leads having left the show I guess it was out of sight, out of mind for their fans. Barry Allen & Felicity Smoak, yet both characters find themselves in the finals. Besides Shoot & Clexa, there were a few other new additions. barry Allen & Iris West (WestAllen) "The Flash", Robin Hood & Regina Mills (OutlawQueen) "Once Upon A Time" Santana Lopez & Brittany Pierce "Glee". After missing last years finals by 5 votes Amy Farrah Fowler & Sheldon Cooper "ShAmy" from "The Big Bang Theory" find themselves back in after 1 year out of the finals, along with Snow White & Prince Charming from "Once Upon A Time" who also were in 2013 but missed out in 2014. With all 3 former champions in this category, along with a couple new serious contenders, I expect a lot of fanbases ahrd at work trying to push their choices to the top in the finals. On that note, it should be noted that ONE finalist (and 2 others...but on lesser scales) had more than 1 person attempt to purposely cheat in the semi-finals, logging in 1000s of votes by circumventing the IP rule.... but, as those from past years are aware... thats not the only line of defense I use to stop this. Those votes were all discared and ONLY votes for that candidate from other voters were counted. Attempts like that in the finals wont be handled so delicately. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Program is.... SUPERNATURAL (CW) Four wins in 5 years for the show about a couple brothers who hunt evil things, while angels & demons help & hinder their jobs. Supernatural wins in the smallest margin of victory in the history of the category, 925 votes narrowly beats this years runner up, last years 3rd place finalist Doctor Who by 18, with 907. In 3rd is the 2011 Best New Program winner & last years 6th place finalist Once Upon A Time with 742 votes. In 4th is Agents of SHIELD with 572. In 5th is Game Of Thrones, the same spot it had last year. In 6th is the 2012 Sci-Fi or Fantasy Program winner The Walking Dead. In 7th is last years runner up Lost Girl. In 8th was the 2013 Best New Program winner Orphan Black. In 9th, Haven took a steep drop from last years 4th.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Favorite TV Program is.... Arrow After back-to-back wins for another CW show "Supernatural" the network wins again, this time with their 3rd crime fighting vigilante show "Arrow". With 1271 votes, Arrow set a new record for most votes in the category, previously held by Supernatural in 2012 with 706 . Also largest margin of victory with 300, previous record was 218 by Supernatural in 2012 Last years runner up, grabbed the same honour this year. Lost Girl finished 2nd with 971 votes, marking the 2nd highest vote total of a show in the 3 years of this award. The former champion Supernatural rounds out the top 3 with 684 votes. Continual contender Castle finished 4th for its 2nd time in the 3 years of the award, improving on its 6th place from last year. Orphan Black nabbed 5th, a sharp increase from its 10th place finish last year. Once Upon A Time finished 6th, just downf rom last years 5th place finish. The Walking Dead in 9th is an improvement on last years 13th, but still down from the 1st year when it finished 6th. Game Of Thrones in 10th slips a bit from its 7th place spot last year. Doctor Who finished 11th, a sharp drop from the 4th place finish the show had last year. The Big Bang Theory finishes 15th after being 9th last year. Bex Taylor-Klaus "Arrow" With 3 finals nominations in 2 years for this award, Bex Taylor-Klaus wins in her final year of eligibility for the award for her role as the smart mouthed street kid "Sin" on "Arrow" with 524 votes. Bex finished 8th last year for her role on "The Killing" and also finished 5th for this role on "Arrow". Bex managed to beat out last years winner Maisie Williams "Game Of Thrones" who came well back in 2nd with 280 votes. The 244 vote margin is a new category record. Coming in 3rd was Sasha Pieterse "Pretty Little Liars" in her 1st finals appearance. In 4th is newcomer Camren Bicondova from the rookie hit "Gotham", ahead of 5th place Brighton Sharbino in her last year on "The Walking Dead’ was up from her 7th place finish last year. Last years 3rd place finalist Sophie Turner "Game Of Thrones" finished back in 6th this year. Taissa Farmiga "American Horror Story" also drops from 4th to 7th this year. This year he looks poised for another victory barring another Norman Reedus tweet style like in 2012 from 1 of the challengers. This year, the main challenger appears to be rookie sci-fi or fantasy drama star Grant Gustin from The Flash. With only 7 of last years 12 finalists back this year in the finals (although the entire top 6 is back), there is some new blood. Led of course by semi-finals runner up Grant Gustin, 4th place Clark Gregg of Agents Of SHIELD who was a semi-finalist last year, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game Of Thrones who seemingly replaced Kit Harington as the GoT 2nd challengers this year to Peter Dinklage. Another newcomer, Peter Capaldi from Doctor Who also makes it, and finally Colin O'Donoghue, a semi-finalist last year makes the finals this year. Last years runner up, Eric Balfour from haven is back, as are Peter Dinklage, Robert Carlyle & Misha Collins. Dinklage managed to place 3rd, but the other 2 barely scraped into the finals, in 10th & 11th, just ahead of the 2012 winner Reedus who slipped into the final spot by a mere 9 votes. The Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress category will more than likely have a new Winner this year. Last years winner Zoie Palmer is ineligible for the category this year because of the schedule that her show Lost Girl had this season. The 2012 winner Jennifer Morrison from Once Upon A Time is in the finals, but came in 5th, and was 2nd from her own show behind Lana Parrilla, and along with Ginnifer Goodwin makes 3 finalists for her show, and likely will cause a vote split to water down her chances of reclaiming the title. Tatiana Maslany from orphan Black comes in as the odds on favorite after her opening round 3rd place standing, she managed to win the semi-final vote. A 1st time finalist Lena Headey from Game Of Thrones finished 2nd in the semi-final vote ahead of another 1st time finalist Ming-Na Wen for Agents Of SHIELD. Last years runner up Emilia Clarke from Game Of Thrones came in 7th, while last years 3rd place finalist Emily Rose of Haven came in 4th. Agents Of SHIELD nabbed 2 other finalist spots with Chloe Bennet & Elizabeth Henstridge, giving them as many finalists as Once Upon A Time. Melissa McBride of The Walking Dead and Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who tied for the last 2 spots. Notable ommisions this year are Rachel Nichols from Continuum who finished 6th last year, Emilie de Ravin from Once Upon A Time who finished 8th & Lexa Doig from Continuum who finished 10th. All who made the semi-finals, but missed making the finals by varying margins. The Sci-Fi or Fantasy program category looks like it could be a battle for Supernatural to try & take its 4th title in the category. The semi-final vote went to Game Of Thrones with 336, a bit behind them was Supernatural still well in the mix at 308. Once Upon A Time managed a 3rd place showing. Last years runner up Lost Girl limped in at 9th, while the 3rd place finalist last year Doctor Who was 5th. Newcomers to the finals this year include Agents Of SHIELD in 4th, Orphan Black in 7th & The Vampire Diaries re-entering the finals for the 1st time since 2010 when it was entered as a Drama before the guidelines of the categories were more solidified, snuck in at 10th place. Only absentees from last year were the now retired Fringe, and Continuum. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. Last years runner up Lost Girl took 3rd and is still a threat if their fans decide to try. Only shows that did not make the finals that did last season were Continuum, Hannibal, Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow & retired Fringe. Newcomers to the finals are Agents Of SHIELD, Murdoch Mysteries, Orange Is The New Black, Sherlock & The Flash. The Favorite Character category again sees the defending 4 time champion Dean Winchester "Supernatural" not going in as the favorite based on the Semi-Final vote. This year however, he has 1 less challenger to threaten his title as the 2012 & 2013 runner up was penalized heavily for her fans refusal to follow rules, and it cost her. Castiel from "Supernatural", last years semi-final runer up & finalist 3rd place competitor goes into the finals as the semi-final leader. 20 of the 25 finalists last year are in again. Only exclusions are the now retired Fringe duo of Walter Bishop & Olivia Dunham, How I Met Your Mother character Barney Stinson in his last run, Sherlock Holmes from Elementary, although should be noted Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock is in this year, and finally Dr. Lauren Lewis of Lost Girl who only failed to make it due to a fan boycott due to the penalties levied....although they had no problem putting their 2 other stars through. Newcomers are plenty, most notable Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow, Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock & William Murdoch & Julia Ogden of Murdoch Mysteries. All of whom passed 100 votes in the semi-finals. Newcomer David Mazouz "Gotham" jumped in and took the lead in the semi-final round, narrowly beating last years runner up Jared Gilmore "Once Upon A Time". Another newcomer to the category Isaac Hempstead Wright "Game Of Thrones" came in 3rd ahead of last years 3rd place finisher Chandler Riggs "The Walking Dead". This year 4 of last years finalists are in this eyars finals. As stated earlier, the defending champ is out due to not being on the show this year, Same goes for Rowan Longworth, while Shane Harper was ineligible due to his age. In the Youth Actress category... last eyars winner Maisie Williams "Game Of Thrones" again looks like she will be a major contender. However, the semi-final vote saw last years double finalist Bex Taylor-Klaus "Arrow" take a strong stranglehold on things and will go into the finals as the probable favorite based on her nearly 2 to 1 vote ratio of last years winner in the runner up spot. Camren Bicondova "Gotham" like her male counterpart finished strong with a 3rd place spot ahead of last years 3rd place finalist Sophie Turner "Game Of Thrones" who finished 4th in the semi-finals this year. Like on the guys side, theres a couple missing from this year who were in last year. Molly Quinn "Castle" was ineligible for her age, Gage Golightly was both ineligible for her age and the fact her show ended, and finally Bex Taylor-Klaus "The Killing" will only be a finalist for 1 show this year as her role in the final season of the drama was not reprised.
