The 2015 Best Of TV Awards are about to start the Finals soon. The 6th annual BOTVA's are still closing out some polls for the run off round before we advance to the finals. We've already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record of 575,000 votes in a year. The Semi-Final rounds for Best Talk Show Host, Writing & Stunts categories took place a couple weeks ago. The only winner of this award in the 3 years of its existence seems poised to take it again. The two time runner up Jimmy Fallon finds himself finishing 2nd again to Ellen in this round. Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien all make the finals for a fourth time, along with John Oliver in his 2nd finals. Last years field had 8 finalists, this year only 6. Former 2X finalists David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel both missed the finals with Kimmel not even making the semi-finals. The Best Writing Category has most of the same shows that made the inagural awards final round last year. Only Orange Is The New Black and the currently inactive Sherlock did not make it back to this years finals. A few new shows to the finals made the finals this year. Person of Interest and Agents Of SHIELD were strong contenders, both finishing in the top 4 in the semi-finals. Another pack of four newcomers to the finals followed not too much furtner behind, The 100, Once Upon A Time, Agent Carter & Daredevil all made the finals as well. Last years winner, Arrow, is back in the finals as the vote leader in the semi-finals, after a modest 5th place showing in the opening round. In a rare feat, Arrow actually increased its vote total from round 1 where there was no limit to voting, to round 2 where there was a 1 per voting restriction. the two opening round voting goliaths, hannibal & Person of Interest had somewhat different round 2 successes. While both qualified for the finals, POI managed to stick around in 2nd, while Hannibal fell back to 10th. last years runner up, Lost Girl also qualified, but barely, sneaking in down at 11th. The Best Stunts Category also won by Arrow last year looks poised for a possible repeat performance this year. Much like the writing category, almost everyone from last year is back. Only Supernatural didnt make it back to the finals this year, being replaced by newcomer Daredevil. The difference between last year & this year seems to be who the contenders to Arrows title might be. Last years runner ups Lost Girl and the eliminated Supernatural dropped considerably this year, while two also rans in the finals last year Person Of Interest and The Flash find themselves going into the finals as the contenders. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Comedy Program is.... The Big Bang Theory (CBS) Fivepeat for The Big Bang Theory for Best Comedy Program. Now officially, the only 5 time winner in any category. The show about a group of nerdy, socially awkward scientists and their girlfriends has been a hit everywhere for several years. TBBT crushed both the most votes record of 892 & margin of victory 439 that it set last year with an incredible 1,720 votes & a margin of victory of 1,190 over 3 time 2nd place finalist How I Met Your Mother with just 530 votes. In 3rd, alos in its last year is Psych with 526 giving it the shows 1st top 3 finish after 2 4ths & a 5th in years prior. In 4th was Modern Family up 1 spot from the 5th place its had the last two years. In 5th was 2010 runner up & last years 3rd place finalist Glee. In 6th was 2 Broke Girls, the same place it ended last year. In 7th Brooklyn Nine-Nine in its 1st year of eligibility. I shudder to think what the margin of victory might be next year with the 2nd & 3rd place finalists this year now retired. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Favorite TV Program is.... Arrow After back-to-back wins for another CW show "Supernatural" the network wins again, this time with their 3rd crime fighting vigilante show "Arrow". With 1271 votes, Arrow set a new record for most votes in the category, previously held by Supernatural in 2012 with 706 . Also largest margin of victory with 300, previous record was 218 by Supernatural in 2012 Last years runner up, grabbed the same honour this year. Lost Girl finished 2nd with 971 votes, marking the 2nd highest vote total of a show in the 3 years of this award. The former champion Supernatural rounds out the top 3 with 684 votes. Continual contender Castle finished 4th for its 2nd time in the 3 years of the award, improving on its 6th place from last year. Orphan Black nabbed 5th, a sharp increase from its 10th place finish last year. Once Upon A Time finished 6th, just downf rom last years 5th place finish. The Walking Dead in 9th is an improvement on last years 13th, but still down from the 1st year when it finished 6th. Game Of Thrones in 10th slips a bit from its 7th place spot last year. Doctor Who finished 11th, a sharp drop from the 4th place finish the show had last year. The Big Bang Theory finishes 15th after being 9th last year. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Writing is.... Arrow Congratulations on the inagural winner of the Best Writing award, Arrow. With 1,206 votes the show handily beat its competitors. Runner up was Lost Girl with 724 votes, in 3rd was Castle with 686. Both of which early on had the leads in voting before Arrow took over & never looked back. The writing team for Arrow has many people on it, but the main writers are Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg. In 4th was Supernatural, just ahead of Hannibal in 5th, another NBC show The Blacklist finished 10th. British shows made an impact on the list with Sherlock in 6th & Doctor Who in 11th. Netflix garnered a finalist, Orange Is The New Black was 7th. Cable giants HBO & AMC had their respective hits Game Of Thrones in 8th & The Walking Dead 9th on the list. Neil Patrick harris of How I Met Your Mother winning the inagural title, Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory winning in 2012, Chris Colfer of Glee winning last years. This year, they go into the finals as the top 3 vote getters in the semi-finals with last years winner Colfer finishing with a massive lead. The likelyhood that this years winner will not be a former winner is pretty unlikely as 4th & 5th are both from shows that the top 3 are from, and finished well back. Perrenial 1st round powerhouse Timothy Omundson, in his characters swan song will take 1 last crack to win, but odds are steep as his co-star James Roday from Psych also made the finals, which will split the limited vote pootl of this show probably. Every finalist from last year is back this year except the late Cory Monteith from Glee. Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the only newcomer to the category finals. The Comedy Actress award looks poised to he another Big Bang Theory showdown with the only winners in the shows history. 2 Time winner Kaley Cuoco looks to defend her 2013 award against her co-star 2012 winner Mayim Bialik. Last years 3rd place finalist Alyson Hannigan from How I Met Your Mother, in her final run at the honour, again looks poised for a 3rd place finish if the semi-finals are an indication. 7 of the 10 finalists last year are back, only Zooey Deschanel, Alison Brie & Cobie Smulders are not back. Orange Is The New Black actresses Uzo Aduba & Taylor Schilling find themselves in the finals, along with Sofia Vergara from Modern Family for her 1st time and Amy Poehler of Parks & Recreation. The Comedy Program looks poised to stay in the hands of The Big Bang Theory. The only show to win ever Best Show category it is eligible for since the invention of these awards has the inside track on winning a 5th straight with continual contenders Glee & How I Met Your Mother making up the best chance at an upset. Last years runner up Lost Girl took 3rd and is still a threat if their fans decide to try. Only shows that did not make the finals that did last season were Continuum, Hannibal, Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow & retired Fringe. Newcomers to the finals are Agents Of SHIELD, Murdoch Mysteries, Orange Is The New Black, Sherlock & The Flash. The Favorite Character category again sees the defending 4 time champion Dean Winchester "Supernatural" not going in as the favorite based on the Semi-Final vote. This year however, he has 1 less challenger to threaten his title as the 2012 & 2013 runner up was penalized heavily for her fans refusal to follow rules, and it cost her. Castiel from "Supernatural", last years semi-final runer up & finalist 3rd place competitor goes into the finals as the semi-final leader. 20 of the 25 finalists last year are in again. Only exclusions are the now retired Fringe duo of Walter Bishop & Olivia Dunham, How I Met Your Mother character Barney Stinson in his last run, Sherlock Holmes from Elementary, although should be noted Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock is in this year, and finally Dr. Lauren Lewis of Lost Girl who only failed to make it due to a fan boycott due to the penalties levied....although they had no problem putting their 2 other stars through. Newcomers are plenty, most notable Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow, Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock & William Murdoch & Julia Ogden of Murdoch Mysteries. All of whom passed 100 votes in the semi-finals.
