I caught up with Supergirl filming episode 6x11, directed by Glen Winter, at George Wainborn Park in Vancouver earlier this week for 2 conseuctive days. This is the day 1 set report. Day 2 will be a couple more days. There was a lot to go over. This park is the same location that Supergirl used back in season 2 for a scene between Superman and Metallo that I shot HERE On this day, they started out on the street surrounding the park. When I first showed up up the morning, they had a pile of debris, smashed up cars, including at least 1 on fire, and emergency vehicles scattered along a 1 block stretch of area. Shortly after I got there, they did a take of the scene, and it included multiple large explosions, with fireballs reaching about 10-15 feet into the air. Eventually, after several completitions of that stunt sequence, which included people running around in a panic, including emergency people. They then had the casts stunt doubles come in to react to the explosions for a couple takes. Then the cast came in to shoot a take with 1 explosion, instead of the 2 they had been using earlier. Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.... wait nope, scratch that, Sentinel (if you watched lhe season premiere, and look at her left arm in these shots, shes sporting a new logo on there), David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Nicole Maines as Dreamer, and Jesse Rath as Brainiac 5 were on set for the scene. Also spotted at the set was an actress that at that time I did not know the name of, and I never saw IF she was in the scene (BUT have to assume she was since she was there during the filming), in the recap below this set of photos I state who the actress is, and who she COULD be in the show. There was a couple different scenes early on that did not seem to show much of what they were doing from the angles I could find on the far end of the street. With the curved style of the street, and all the vehicles scattered about in the background, seeing exactly WHAT was going on for the earlier scene, was almost impossible. It just consisted of the 5 of them walking to the front of a minivan, then out of my view to confront something. When I later moved to the other end of the street, I was able to get a bit of a view of the group facing a bit my direction, but still could not see who they were confronting. Next, they did a scene, a very short one (or at least short when I noticed it maybe?) where Supergirl is mimicking that she is being choked, as the heroes rush into support her. Again, no clue what made that happen, or how it ended. They did not seem to film the scene for long, and moved on to setting up for the next one. While they were setting up for the next scene, Nicole wandered off to an area with more space to practice doing a stunt with a rope. I never did see her actually do the scene WITH it. After that scene, they did a scene with them facing back in the direction I started my day, but with all the vehicles there, I had to find a side angle to get a shot of the 5 of them. So in almost every shot I took, there was almost always 1 or more of them blocked by their co-stars. At one point Alex has a bazooka for some reason. Then later she did a scene where she seemed to have a baton or something like that in her hand. They then had just Dreamer & Brainy doing a scene together where Dreamer is pretending shes pulling on a rope, and getting dragged along, and Brainy comes rushing to her side with the cannister he was carrying around throughout parts of the day with him. In it, Brainy yells out "Dreamer no" before he rushes over to her, and when he gets beside her, she yells at him "what are you doing?". I frankly wouldnt be shocked if I forgot something in all of this. It was a chaotic day.... and it wasnt even over.... I went for a walk for a bit at one point to find a place to recharge my cameras battery (and failed). On my walk, I found some of the set decoration that will be in the background during the earlier scenes, and, conveniently was part of a wall they had built around some of their equipment and catering trucks. So I took a few photos of those.
Later on, they moved down into the park, a scene was shot down on the grass. It had Melissa on set in her Supergirl outfit, along with Thomas Lennon, returning as Mr. Mxyzptlk, and a woman that I did not immediately know, but has been ID'ed as Peta Sergeant by a couple observant fans. What her character COULD be, is still unknown. But some speculated it could be Mrs. Nyxlygsptlnz, which is Mxys wife in the comics. If it is, then something isnt going well in their marriage, because they did not seem to be getting along in the scene. The scene starts with Supergirl & Mxy jumping in, and they are searching for someone. At the time I was having trouble figuring out why Supergirl kept yelling out "Myxly" when he was standing right beside her as they walked along, but after being told of the other character "Nyxly" seems more probable. In the scene, Petas character has a round orb (I called it a "large marble" at the set, because "orb" escaped my mind) that she shoves in the direction of where Mxy and Supergirl are, and Mxy moves towards her, before Supergirl tries intervening, and playing peacekeeper. She yells at Petas character "Wait, wait, we can work this out" as she moves closer to where Mxy was, which was about 1/2 way between where Supergirl & Peta were positioned. That was all I saw of that scene, and that was the end of the shoot for that day. There will be more, as I have some content for day two coming this week(end) as well. Video will come later in April on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. So check in there for those later on. Some of the videos will be on the Patreon page for video tier members THIS WEEK, and more coming for a while (I have a few to work through). If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. I caught up with Supergirl shooting just outside of downtown Vancouver, at an area that the locals know as "the old Molson Brewery", but now is just a mostly abandoned factory. This was the same location that my 1st shots late last year were of Superman & Lois filming a night shoot of Tyler Hoechlin in his new suit. As with that set, I saw almost none of the actual filming here. The only scene I actually DID see, was a scene with a bunch of guest actors getting out of a panel van & walking towards a building. Thats it. But the bigger thing I did see obviously that day, was David Harewood, and his stunt double on set in their Martian Manhunter outfits, as well as Jennifer Clarke in her Supergirl outfit. But that was all secondary to the thing all the fans were most anticipating. Melissa Benoist was on set as Supergirl publicly for the first time since she gave birth to a baby, and since the pandemic shut down production less than 2 weeks short of a year ago (you can see their last public shoot set HERE). At one point they were using a drone to shoot a scene, but again, I saw nothing of what the drone was seeing..... wish I had its view. The first photos of Melissa Benoist since March 12, 2020 on set outside of the studio. Since the shows return from the hiatus that was caused by the ongoing pandemic, the cast & crew of Supergirl have been rarely on location, and to date, none of those locations seemed to be with Melissa (if she had 1 prior, no one found it). So for the eager fans of the actress, this was their 1st real chance to see her out & about in a year. On Thursday, the production moved to New Westminster, about 1/2 hour outside of downtown Vancouver for a scene at an autobody shop. They were using their courtyard to shooting a scene (thankfully with the gate open) with a huge rig that had been torn apart through the middle. Again Supergirl & Martian Manhunter were in the scene. It starts with Martian Manhunter standing infront of the torn hull of the container, Supergirl then "lands" and walks over. They talk about it, before MM leaves for a moment, then comes back with a piece of paper. The pair read the paper. In 1 take MM did a jump up as if to fly away, but I never saw him do it in another take, so I dont know if he did it as an improvisation, or if he was asked to do it once by the director. But it wasnt something I saw in any of the other takes they did. This was of course the first ACTUAL location scene anyone would see Melissa Benoist shoot this season. Video will come later this month. Sorry for the heavier than usual watermarks. But some of the fans from this fandom like wasting their time removing them, posting them, and losing their social media account over it. Weird hobby, but, I thought I would make it at least a little harder for them this time. Be sure to thank them for the heavier than usual watermarks. UPDATE - (at 11 AM Pacific Time, March 21, 2020) Video will be added at the bottom. It does include photos from this post after the video. So if you have already seen them here, feel free to skip them. I caught up with Supergirl shooting in part of downtown Vancouver called Coal Harbour. On this day they were filming a few scenes for the season 5 finale. Unfortunately I did not get to the first couple, as this information snuck up on everyone and we didnt really find out about it till the early afternoon. By the time I got there, they were on the 2nd to last of several locations they were shooting in the area that day. The first scene I came across had several cast in a scene. Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Nicole Maines as Dreamer, Jesse Rath as Brainiac 5 (looks a bit different than I recall), Sharon Leal as Miss Martian, and the stand in for Chyler Leigh was in the scene too in some type of black & blue hooded outfit (anyone seen her wearing that before?). The scene had this group of heroes walking thru a mob on a plaza. They get to the front, and seem happy about something. People are seemingly cheering, but there also was at least a couple background who looked up were acting angry, including 1 walking away giving a thumbs down to whatever was going on. No other context of the scene really is known. That was it. After that scene wrapped, they went on lunch & moved on to their next scene across the street.. The last location of the day was in a childrens park. This location saw several cast at it. Melissa Benoist was on set as Kara Danvers, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz, Jesse Rath as Querl Dox, Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, as well as returning guest star Sharon Leal as M'gann M'orzz. Also on set was Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor, but he was not shooting (at least while I was there) on camera. This usually means the actor is needed to simply speak a piece of dialogue needed in the scene. From what I could see of the scene, it seemed the cast were hanging around this bench, seemingly having a good time, as there was a lot of laughing while the camera was rolling. Then suddenly something catches their attention, and they all look up a bit. I never heard any dialogue for the scene, but their fun loving nature from moments earlier seemed to change into a more serious look. I know the direction they looked is where Jon was standing off camera, so perhaps it was something to do with Lex? But I cant say. In some of the scenes you might see bubbles on screen, this is because they had a child playing with a bubble blower throughout the scene, while another was playing soccer with a "dad". This was, from what anyone could recall, the first on location shoot Supergirl had done, and more notably Melissa, since her pregnancy announcement. The earlier filming had her in her Supergirl costume, but because of the sheer density of the crowd, theres no photos of her full frame to see if she is well in, or not. The evening shoot, she was bundled in a heavy jacket to hide any ideas on that. After an hour or so of shooting that scene, the cast headed off. Katie and David stopped to meet fans. Earlier in the day Jesse came over to a fence that was splitting the sidewalk and the property they were on to come and say him. They all appeared to be in good spirits despite while they were working the news came out that Riverdale, which shares a studio with Supergirl was shutting down production early because of a possible COVID-19 issue. Katie even referenced she was hesitant to give a fan a hug as she was worried she could give them the disease. Whether that was a thought on her mind prior to the news, or not, I dont know. But she eventually did give the hugs after all. From what it sounded like from the crew I chatted with, this is probably the last exterior shoot of the season. At this time, I believe there is no plans to shut down production for their show, despite sharing a studio with Riverdale. Filming for Supergirl season 5 is scheduled to wrap March 17. So they just have a few days to try and get through this. I also have some video of the scene, but it wont be up for a little while, as I have a lot of other projects that I am working on. Perhaps by next week I will have it on Patreon, and by the end of the month on Youtube. APOLOGIES IF YOU CAME THE OTHER DAY AND DID NOT SEE A VIDEO - I had to remove it temporarily, as Youtube had deemed it not ad friendly, due to me talking about COVID-19 in it. I had to remove that whole piece, now its OK'ed.... so I can put it back up. Since I had to remove that part, I will add a breakdown of what I said in here. So, watch the video, then read on below, or vice-a-versa. If you have been paying attention to the Supergirl fandom for a while, you might have heard rumblings for a few months about the possibility that Supergirl would only be 20 episodes in season 5. Well, till recently, they were just rumours. But now, confirmation has come in the way of their production schedule being reduced by almost a month. While the decision for this change was surely done a while ago, it is now just public knowledge, as these things usually are not made public till late in a production (usually its for a time extension. Not too common it is a reduction). Will the new Superman & Lois have any impact on it? Did Melissa Benoist get a new role on a different project? Has the threat of COVID-19 caused things to wrap early (had to remove that part.... so its right here in the next paragraph)? Since the new pandemic COVID-19 (more commonly known as the "coronavirus" which is misleading a bit, since theres many strains of Coronavirus, but COVID-19 is this specific strain) has become such a notable thing. Especially here in Vancouver where 9 cases of it have been reported in the last month, and right across the border from us in Washington State they have had 9 deaths from it. People are wondering if the panic about this virus is to blame for the quick end. No. Plain and simply, it is not. This was planned long before this was even a thing anyone had heard of. On top of that, the likelyhood ANY current crews would stop for it is low. The cause for concern would have to skyrocket, and quick, for that to happen as most projects have 4 to 5 weeks left of filming. Now COULD it have an impact come next seasons filming? Maybe. If things get notably worse between here and late June, there absolutely could be enough concern to delay filming till the pandemic has become greatly minimized. But that is an issue they will not think about till closer to the time of filming for that. As for this season, barring it hitting a specific crew hard (not talking 1 or 2 cases, but enough that work cant be done), it is very unlikely they would halt production this close to the end of season. In the video below, I break down the most likely reason, and debunk some of the most discussed rumours that have popped up about it.

I caught up with Supergirl shooting in Surrey at Guildford Mall for episode 516. The director is Tawnia McKiernan. (you may know her name from 4 other Supergirl episodes in the past, including last weeks episode "The Bottle Episode). This was a rare venture for me, as I dont usually go all the way out to Surrey for anything. But a combination of boredom, and an instagram post from Chyler Leigh got me curious enough to go out and check it out. Unfortunately, I missed the scenes Chyler did in her new costume. I saw her double later dressed in some of the outfit, but not the whole thing. What I did see though, and the context of the scene that was mentioned over & over again by the crew as they let the man on stage who at this time I only know by his character name of "Rock Starman" (is there any more of a music name than that??) know what is going on. The scene has Rock performing on a stage, when suddenly a dragon comes in (obviously to be CGIed in later) and "Supergirl" comes in and saves the day. After its realized the threat has been thwarted, Rock gives an acknowledgement towards Supergirl and continues playing. Not long after that scene, they did a scene with a mob of people rushing to the stage to cheer..... then, they wrapped. The location of this concert was at a place called "Obsidian North Platinum" in a location called "Virtual National City Mall", so was this concert for top tier members of Obsidian? I did find out a couple things, obviously the most important info being the episode number, and episode title. An episode focused on Alex being Supergirl makes some sense when you realize that Melissa Benoist is directing episode 17, and would be busy with prep for that episode right now. Now HOW she ends up that way.... we will have to wait and see. Below are some photos form the set. But here also is a video of a scene with Alex coming in that a twitter user caught there.
Here are some of the photos I took from the set below. If anyone knows the name of the man playing "Rock Starman" feel free to let me know, and I will credit him accordingly.

I caught up with Supergirl shooting in North Vancouver yesterday at a place called "The Shipyards" near Lonsdale Quay for episode 508, directed by Marcus Stokes. In the morning they were shooting a scene at the "National City Tar Pit" with Julie Gonzalo as Andrea Rojas, Mitch Pileggi as Rama Kahn, and Rebecca Ferguson as Acrata (no speaking lines, just doing running scene for Julie so the camera can get the scene all in 1 shot). The scene had a bunch of tourists at the Tar Pit looking around at the exhibit, and dinosaurs that were also there. Andrea and Rama walk along a walk way above the display, before descending down the stairs towards the main area. Once down on the floor, the pair have a talk where Rama seems to be talking to her at one point quite menacingly. He then does something with his stick, and Andrea reacts as if she just had been snapped out of a spell. A moment later, the tar pit starts bubbling, theres a distraction, and Andrea grabs the staff from Rama and takes off. A moment later, the Acrata stand in is up top, with the staff and takes off at a full sprint out of the area. Later on, Julie & Rebecca left, and Melissa Benoist and David Harewood came in to do scenes with Mitch, and you can find my write up on those scenes HERE To see more Behind The scenes blog posts and photos from Supergirl go HERE To see the autograph gallery for Supergirl go HERE For updates of Supergirl cast shooting on other shows for Crisis On Infinite Earths, I have created a blog section just for this event HERE Supergirl season 5 will start in October on The CW in the U.S. and on Showcase in Canada. I caught up with Supergirl shooting in North Vancouver yesterday at a place called "The Shipyards" near Lonsdale Quay for episode 508, directed by Marcus Stokes. There was some scenes early in the day that I will do a separate blog on later on with Julie Gonzalo, Mitch Pileggi and an unknown woman. This post will focus on the scenes shot later in the morning & through the afternoon. Melissa Benoist as Supergirl was on set publicly in her costume for the first time since her recent wedding to former Supergirl actor Chris Wood. She seemed to be in all sorts of good moods through out the early part of the day. David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz and Mitch Pileggi as Rama Kahn joined Melissa on set for these scenes. The scenes the trio shot were taking place in the "National City Tar Pits". The scene had the two heroes show up at one end of a dinosaur exhibit, Supergirl holding a gun from Luthor Corp. After arriving J'onn and Supergirl looked at each other a bit confused as if they werent sure what the problem was, then a couple moments later an earthquake happens, sending the non-aliens there to the ground. At the other end, Rama Kahn was standing there, seemingly waiting for the confrontation with the heroes. Supergirl yells out his name at him, and he replies to her with her name and references to an apparent prior interaction they had elsewhere. After the conversation between the two, the heroes decide to run at Rama (why cant they fly at him? Why are they running at regular human speed?). A bit later, they did another scene with the trio. Rama now standing further back in the exhibit, J'onn on the outer edge of the exhibit, and Supergirl in the middle, still with her "sonic cannon" (what I heard it being called by a crew member) gun near a crater that was now on the ground. Rama "throws sand" at J'onn which irritates him enough that he leaves where he was standing and moves over to where Supergirl is. The two heroes then have a chat which ends with J'onn leaving, and Supergirl seemingly being left to take on the big bad by herself. She also did a scene where she seems to shoot the gun in the direction of Rama Kahn. Whether it had any impact is unknown. At the beginning of her shooting day, Melissa showed up and surprised a group of school children that had stopped to watch the filming. She came over, high fiving them all, and even telling them a little bit of what she was going to do in the scene. A bit later, as any of you who follow her instagram already knew, Melissa decided to have some fun with some of the props on display. Melissa got up onto one of the dinos and had photos of her riding it like a bull, then went over and got a photo of her hugging a t-rex leg. Eventually my camera ran out of battery, and I decided it was a good time to call it a day. This is the last episode before they start shooing the 5 part Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths, so it will be interesting to see if anything happening in these scenes are connected to the mega-event.
