Sorry for this being pulled for awhile. I was unable to be around the computer, and someone asked me to remove it till something could be confirmed...and even though I was told shortly after it was fine to have it up, I didnt have a chance to get it re-posted till now....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tonight, all the cast (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene, Rachelle Lefevre, Dakota Fanning, Jamie Campbell Bower, Michael Sheen, Cameron Bright & others I couldnt ID) & main crew ( both directors, Chris Weitz and David Slade, as well as Stephanie Meyer) that were still in town for New Moon had a get together at the Blue Water Cafe in Gastown. This get together was found & staked out by a modest 7-10 people for the mostpart early on.
The cast as they showed up were for the mostpart, courteous & patient with signing autographs & taking photos, even though many of us they saw repeated times in the past. Robert even was answering some questions from people while he took pics & signed. Nothing too in depth, but he still acknowledged some questions, including my question about my How To Be photo I got signed, when I asked if he knew if it was ever getting a wide release, and he said he didnt know.
Once the cast was comfortably inside, enjoying what SHOULD have been a calm & controlled evening with minimal people awaiting their departures. Chaos started to unfold thru the internet.
Local tabloid gossip queen, Lainey, twittered the exact location for where the party was happening. Even making multiple posts to make sure the message was seen as much as possible. Her reasons are not entirely known, but the group down there all had their own overwhelming hunches, which point to the fact she didnt have anyone there to shoot for her (ironic she posted this shortly after her pap went home for the night) & she wanted to create a scene where dozens of people were there to take exclusivity away from any shots that did come out of there. It was a low, underhanded & classless move, which really hurts the cast & crew more than the photogs that were around.
In a move of defensive maneuvering not generally seen by a small group of fans (which was now up to about 12-15 after the twitter posts) we grouped together & knowingly posted false departures of the cast. None of us liked doing it, but it was far far better than the alternative, which was 40+ people showing up. In just 5-10 minutes of her original post, 2 fans had shown up & in 30 mins 5-6 had. Luckily, it never got past that point & for that, I thank those down on the scene who banded together with myself to post eroneous reports to immobilize Laineys plan to cause chaos & problems. Luckily it worked. Sorry to those who were misguided by it, nothing personal against YOU, it is more that a sizable group causes problems & it was teetering on that edge already within a short timespan of the twitter posts.
I even showed one of the cast members the tweets when they were outside for some fresh air, they had apparently already heard about it. They thanked me for telling them, even though they already knew. What they didnt know & I didnt have the time to tell them was how we made an aggressive push to thwart chaos from happening.
With a controllable 12-15 people around, things went generally well as the cast left.
Early departures included Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning & Rachelle Lefevre (who returned for awhile) I believe all sperately.
Jamie Campbell Bower & Michael Sheen would leave some time later thru the back.
Even later, Cameron Bright & another cast member I could not identify left thru the back exit which was truthfully, a huge inconvenience for them. Stephanie Meyer also took the same back exit shortly after that.
For awhile after that, there was no immediate action. A small group of them came outside, sat on the ground in a corner & chatted like old friends for a good 10-15 minutes. With a 3 or 4 photogs in the area circling, only 1 was a bit invasive about trying to take photos of them out there, and I dont think her efforts paid off too well anyways. The rest respectfully let them have their time....which is something you rarely see from people who get paid to take incriminating photos.
As the cafe worked on getting the leftover cast out, they sent a waitress out to hail cabs for them & lined them up around the side of the front door, along with a limo.
As the rest of the cast left (Robert, Kristen, Ashley & a few unidentifiables in the bunch that I didnt focus on for too long) Rob & Kristen headed for the limo, which was being driven by a guy who looked like a finalist for "Mr. Middle eastern cowboy impersonator" contest. Rob took the time to sign a couple more autographs along the way & got inside, I cant recall who else may have got in with them if anyone. Only one other cab picked up anyone from the group. Rob joked about if he got in the wrong vehicle, since the limo driver seemed slow to close the door, giving the fans & photogs a chance to snap 1-2 more pics before the door closed. Someone joked back "you got in the paparazzi limo" & the door then closed & they left, with a small controlled crowd of only about 15 people there, instead of the 50 that Lainey & her tipster clearly hoped for. No one hurridly chased after them, everyone was happy with what they got. Imagine how differently that would have been if Lainey got her way?
Cant say if their evening was ruined at all, but I can say they didnt have nearly as much chaos when they left as they could have, had Lainey got her way. Even though I didnt get a lot of autographs or photos, it was a fun experience....and it likely wouldnt have been with even a handful more people there.
