This is surprisingly my 1st blog on season 3, and it just happens to be for the last couple episodes. Batwoman has been tough for me to find this season, and the 3 times I had prior. Once was inside a theatre for the scene in the 1st episode of the season where the Mad Hatter stuff happened, once was in a forest and I couldnt get to a place where I could see it and not be in their way, and once when they were doing a driving scene in an episode. But this was my 1st time getting to see cast actually shooting scenes. On this day, I saw them filming in 2 different locations. First up, was in an alley beside the exterior location for the Rabbit Hole. In the 1st scene Robin Givens was on set as Jada Jett, showing up in her Rolls Royce & seeming to walk into the bar with a tray of coffees. After that, they did a scene where Jada was now walking back to her car, and another person was there in the alley when she got there..... Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore. The scene had the pair have a long talk that seemed pretty dialogue heavy. Jada then gets into her car, closes the door, and drives off, while Sophie looks on a little unimpressed look on her face. Then Sophie talks to someone off camera that was not there filming in the scene, and eventually runs after the car down the alley. Later on, the crew moved over a couple blocks to do another scene later that night in a parking garage. Javicia Leslie was there, however, what I saw was her stunt double doing a scene. By the time Javicia was ready to do her part, I had been out in freezing temperatures for a while, and called it a night. But not before getting a few photos of the stunt team doing a shot where Batwoman nabs a random henchman and pulls him upside down as she flies up & down from a 5 story parking garage. A few days later, I caught up to them filming in a courtyard at our library, but they were just wrapping the scene when I got there, and no cast were around, so I just took a photo of the Gotham City flag that was there. The next night however, I did catch up to 1 more stunt team. I know Camrus Johnson was on set that night, but it was so darm & smoky, that I do not know if any of the photos I took were of him, but I definitely got a few of Batwing doing a stunt. In this case, unlike the night of the Batwoman stunt, I cant even say what happened because the smoke was so thick in the alley. All I know is it consisted of wirework, and was filmed with a drone. Batwoman season 3 is in currently on Wednesday nights on The CW in the U.S., and returns January 12, 2022 to start the back half of season 3. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR "BATWOMAN" SEASON 2 EPISODES 16 or 17?. Last night, Batwoman was filming a few blocks down the street from me on a very rare Monday night/Tuesday early morning. An interior scene started off their day inside a club. I dont know what, if any cast were in it. Later, they moved to a back alley behind the club to shoot a couple scenes in the back. First, a scene with Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, this was the 1st time I had seen her as Ryan, and not Batwoman since my 1st sighting of her way back during the 1st episode. She was doing a scene with Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox. The scene simply had the pair standing in the middle of the alley having a talk, before Luke turns and walks away. That was it. After that, a scene was done with Camrus again, and an unknown actor. The scene seemed to be Luke trying to get his way into the club, with the man, who was presenting himself to appear like he was supposed to be a bouncer nodding his head at the door at one point, before Luke went thru the door. One thing I noticed several times on the set tonight, was crew members wearing Black Lives Matters hoodies. I asked a crew member later on where they came from, thinking maybe the studio ordered them for them from somewhere. But was told a crew member was making them for people asking. After a situation up here a few months ago where a producer got in trouble for demanding a crew member take their BLM attire off, I saw many in the industry here asking if there was any place locally that they could get some made out of support for the movement, and the crew member. Till today I hadnt seen it really though on any of the sets outside of a 1 off hat on one set. After that, it seemed they were moving locations, so I headed home. I HAD planned on calling it a night, but then was given reason to go back out & try the next scene when Wallis Day, the woman recently cast to replace the fired Ruby Rose, as Kate Kane said she was going to be on set in a tweet. When I got back, I found them setting up to film on a very small, almost unknown street to most, that runs under 1 of our bridges. The Batmobile was being prepped for the scene, I had seen it earlier in the evening parked on this street with a tarp over it, so I knew it would be there later. I took a few pics of it while they were preparing it to film, and was able to get a partial photo of the inside, and the cool techie screen in there. The scene had Javicia now dressed as Batwoman, doing a scene where she (and her stunt driver) is in the Batmobile, speeding along, and comes to a stop where a woman is standing in the middle of the road..... its Wallis Day, as Kate Kane. While many had seen photos of Wallis lately with blonde hair, it was unknown of her version of Kate would be blonde. Now we can confirm, she will be I never really got to see what Wallis did in the scene, only a short rehearsal of it. But it mostly seemed she just stood in front of the vehicle. I could hear Javicia speaking in the scene, but couldnt make out what she was saying. So is this the 1st encounter Ryan & Kate have? One thing is for certain, this was the 1st time Wallis was seen on set publicly since being cast. This set is from a couple sets I went to in late January & early February that I kind of got behind working on. So apologies on that. The first set is short, simple & easy. It was a quick establishing shot of a Gotham Barber shop. Little did I know it at the time it was shot, it would be so pivotal to the story, as it was setting up the return of Kate Kane. They filmed this scene for about an hour waaaaay back on January 20th. At the time of this blog post, I thought this COULD be for episode 9, or 10 based off a statement Camrus Johnson stated in a live chat once on the 30th that they were currently working on the 10th episode that day. As it turns out, it was for the very end of episode 8. Two days later, I caught up to them again 2 blocks from my house, but again. There was no main cast there. The scene I saw was of an SUV drive up, a man get out of the passengers side, go up to the steps and shoot. Earlier in the evening they had shot a scene with a person in a uniform seeming to get shot, and another scene with Keeya King as Jordan Moore. Those scenes were for episode 9. Early February I caught up to them in an alley a few blocks from my house. On set this night was a mystery man trying to get into his car, and Batwoman, who comes swooping in from the sky, and confronts him. No real battle happened, but the discussion was short, and then Batwoman flies off again. Javicia Leslie was on set for this shoot, and did some, or all, of the stunts where she flies through the air. This scene could be for episode 10 or 11, based on the fact it was a few days after that Camrus conversation took place. Thursday night I went to a Batwoman set a few blocks from my house. They were filming in an alley they filmed at a few weeks ago. This time, there were more cast on set than the first time there, as Javicia Leslie as Batwoman was joined by Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton were on set this night, along with the stunt team. This was the first set I had ever seen Camrus at where he was working (I did meet him in season 1 at a set, but he wasnt working that night, just walking by). This was also the first set I had been at where Nicole was working since the pilot episode. In an early evening scene, they did stunts. The scene they did had Batwoman fall from about 6-8 stories up. They did that several times, each time, having the stunt end shortly before hitting bottom. Then later, they did 1 take of the stunt where the impact actually happened (which I missed because I didnt expect it... but I heard the impact after it happened, and was met with a sizable cheer from the crew) After they did that scene, they brought in the Batmobile & parked it immediately in front of the vehicle she crashed into. There was then a black van put in front of the Batmobile. From there they did the second part of this scene, with Luke & Mary running over to Batwoman, who was laid out flat on top of the vehicle she crashed into. The team grabs Batwoman, and carries her back to the van and puts Batwoman in the back. Then the pair do some weird scene that seems like they were excited/confused or something, to be honest I didnt fully get it. All I know is Mary does a weird little hop step then runs back towards where the crash was, while Luke goes towards the drivers seat of the van. So how did Batwoman fall? Who nearly killed her? Will this be the start of seeing Luke & Mary in the field more? Shortly after that, Javicia went to lunch break. About half an hour after that they let Camrus and Nicole go on lunch, and I left the set. I had considered going back for post-lunch filming, but I didnt. So thats all I have to report on for this set. One observation I noticed during the night is, the back of the Batmobile opens up. I mean I guess it makes sense, but hadnt seen it till that night. I also added 1 photo in, so you can get an idea how far away I am shooting from. The little yellow square is the ENTIRE area of their filming area. There is also some photos I added of a map of Gotham that was on a bus shelter there that they clearly were planning to use on a later shoot tha ti missed. Friday night I went to a Batwoman set a few blocks from my house. It had been a while since I had actually had a chance to catch up to the show. The first of the Arrowverse shows that I say shooting this season had eluded me for a few weeks, especially since the news that Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder had her very own version of the Batsuit, and a newer looking Batmobile. Well, Friday night, finally we got our 1st close up look at her new suit, and the Batmobile (although not moving, just parked). The scene had Batwoman and Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore doing a scene where the pair walk together back to where the Batmobile and a CROWS Security truck are parked. They have a talk that lasts between 30-45 seconds, then part ways, with Ryan heading to her car, while Sophie heads to the CROWS truck. I know a few fans were reading a lot into the 1 photo I posted on my Patreon of Ryan and Sophie facing each other with each others hands on the other, but unfortunately for them, I dont think that was anything. As I never saw it in any of the takes, before or after that, and dont recall if it was even part of a take at that time. If it IS part of the scene, it was the 1 & only take I saw them do it. There was a later scene in an alley a couple blocks away that Javicia also was going to be in. However, after 2 days of unexpected sets dropping on me, after an already hectic week for me, I chose to call it a night and passed on the very late shoot that wasnt going to start till well after 1 AM. Last night I went to a Batwoman set a few blocks from my house. Of course, like the set from the other night. I went there in the hopes of seeing new Batwoman Javicia Leslie there in the Batsuit, instead of just as her new character Ryan Wilder. Like the other night, I do not know which set this is for, but I again believe it to be episode 2, or 3. Unlike the other night, this time I got what I was hoping for. Javicia Leslie was out in the Batsuit, which from first look (to me who isn't really good at noticing finer details) it looks quite similar to the Ruby Rose version of the suit that Kate Kane was wearing, except, for someone a bit shorter. The scene they were shooting had a CROWS security bus parked sideways in the middle of the street when I showed up, with a sports car parked in front of it. Shortly after I was there, I heard them refer to the car as something I was NOT expecting.... THE BATMOBILE. The car had Motion Capture tags all over it. I don't know what type of car it is, because they conveniently had a MoCap tag right over the logos of the vehicle. While this scene was going on, I got my first confirmation that Batwoman was on set when I saw her a couple times near the back end of the bus getting prepped for a scene. A bit after I got there, they did a scene where that bus was speeding along the street, before coming to a screeching stop in the position I saw it in when I first showed up. Shortly after the stunt scene, it was back to the scene I saw with the vehicles parked in the middle of the street facing each other. We then got to see Javicia out in the Batsuit, and then saw her do a scene where she gets out of the Batmobile, run up to the bus door, demanding they open up the door & get out. The driver obliges her request (only after she aims a pistol at the door), and Batwoman goes into the bus and goes into the drivers seat before the door closes and the scene ends. As one of the local paps in town stated about his observations of Javicia at set. She seems to be really enjoying her time in the role. Smiling & laughing a lot. I personally have already witnessed her break out into very short dances on both sets I have seen her at. I guess the big questions now are. Will this be the Batsuit for Ryan going forward? Or is this just a hold over till she gets her own, like how Kate got revisions on hers from when she took Bruces? What will the Batmobile look like in action? In the next couple days, there may be some short video from set to post. Just need time to edit it. So check back later this week for that. Last night I found the cast & crew of Batwoman in New Westminster filming a couple scenes for an episode. I BELIEVE it was for episode 202, but I dont know that to be for certain. The first set, at the Anvil Centre in downtown New West, saw the building dressed up to be Gotham General Hospital. A TV crew was there doing a report, and it seemed to be about the line up of people there seemingly waiting for something. That something? An antidote for "Bat Toxin". Yep, Batwoman is writing in a story line about some Bat themed issue that is poisoning people, and people lining up to get a cure to it. Considering the point we are at currently in the world, this seems like a bit risky to me. While there, I saw a Gotham Ambulance, as well as a Hamilton Dynamics truck parked there. Which made me wonder.... who runs them now, since Catherine died. Mary? Someone else? Last thing I noticed at this location, was that 1 of the transportation vehicles for cast actually had a custom license plate that reads "BAT-WMN". Would be nice if more shows did this lol. Make it easier for me when I am just passing by to know which production it is, without having to stop and look around. After this scene wrapped, the crew moved about 2 1/2 blocks away to their night shoot location. For the evening shoot, the crew had moved over to a produce market on 10th street. There they had a scene where a couple of attempted masked up thugs went into the store looking to rob it. Unfortunately for them, someone else was in the store. This would be my first look (and I believe the public as a whole) at Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, aka... the new Batwoman.
The scene (to the best of my interpretation, gotta remember, they dont always film things in order) seemed to have these two barge into the store, try to rob it, before Ryan throws a bottle at them, causing a scuffle that generates a bang, before Ryan gets tossed across the floor, and the thugs leave without any money, or even their guns. Is this altercation what inspires her to become Batwoman? Later, there was a short scene with Ryan still there, and a CROWS guard now also there, and she seems to look at him with a look of confusion or annoyance before she goes over towards where the cash register area is, and the CROWS guard follows suit. Not long after that, they wrapped the night. So, about the Batsuit. Unless her Batsuit is going to be a blue jacket over an orange shirt, with 1970s yellow & brown pants, and some gold & white Nike shoes..... I am guessing this wasnt it. Maybe next time? Lastly. This was the first full film set I got to really observe in action. While I had been to a couple of other productions so far, I never really got to see fully how sets are working around the new COVID-19 era restrictions. First observation I made, I was really impressed with the vigilance of the crew to wear their masks at all times. I fully expect to find some slackers in that department, but I never saw any.... or maybe they've already been weeded out since this is week 3 for them now. I also got to see 1 of their coronavirus testing areas at the set (didnt go into it, but saw the precautions needed to be in there), and that as well looks like they really are taking this seriously, as each person who went in was in head to toe PPE just to get their test done. I also got to learn a bit about the "zones" that everyone has now. Each crew member has a different coloured badge, and can only work with people with that same colour badge. As for cast, as soon as their scene was completed, they immediately had masks back on till the next take. There was sanitizer almost everywhere you went. No more just casually going from 1 place to another because it might be most convenient for you. If you arent allowed in a space, you cant go. From what I heard from the few crew I chatted with, it does not seem (yet) to be causing any delays with filming. So hopefully things can remain this smooth throughout. Lastly, 1 crew member when I asked about working with Javicia compared to Ruby, while they didnt comment on Ruby specifically, they did say they love working with Javicia. So we finally have our 1st look at the future new Batwoman. We get to find out that there is some sort of "Bat Toxin" that people are desperate to get an antidote for. What will all this mean? In the next couple days, there may be some short video from set to post. Just need time to edit it. So check back later this week for that.
