THIS POST CONTAINS NOTABLE MAJOR SPOILERS FOR FILMING OF "PSYCH SEASON 8". Do not read or view the photos below if you don't want to see or read anything on season 8 prior to seeing it. . . . last warning . . . I caught up with Psych for more filming from their expected series finale. This particular day, I was determined to go to the set because I knew a guest star that was going to be there. A very special, very Psych relevant guest star that they clearly wanted in the show at some point... Ready Psych-o's? Here it comes. You ready? BILLY ZANE will be in an episode of Psych... and not just as a pop culture reference this time. I dont really know what his role is in the episode. I know there was scenes shot with Billy, Shawn, Gus & Henry either together, or in various combinations, on a trail inside a park in Burnaby. Later, I found them at a house where Shawn, Gus, Lassie and guest stars Billy Zane & some Acadamy Award Winning Actress by the name of Mira Sorvino did scenes in a house. I also saw tweets that said Deon Richmond was on set for this episode. Clearly Psych is pulling out all the running gags for their probable series finale. One of the cooler moments I have had on a Psych set came at the end of the work day. Having gotten James, Dule, Maggie, Kirsten, Corbin & even Steve Franks in my "Psych's Guide To Crimefighting For The Totally Unqualified" (an entertaining read by the way) on previous encounters, I still needed Timothy. So I tweeted at him that I was waiting outside hoping to get my book signed....didn't think he'd even see it in the 1000s of tweets he gets daily. But sure enough, when he left at the end of the day, he walked over to my friend & I and instantly said without hesitation "so which 1 of you is Canadagraphs?" then he signed my book, completing the cast. Something interesting that was found out during this shoot. Maybe you should sit down for this 1. Some of you fans might not take this news as well. Gus is moving on up car-wise. In a shocker, the Blueberry is no more. Gus has a new job, and a new company car. Like many prop cars that shows get, for insurance reasons, the blueberry was crushed. So sadly, no one will be taking it home as the ultimate Psych prop gift. The Blueberry was the 1st notable, Psych specific item I heard about being let go of by the show in their final weeks. The lease on several locations they used, including the office for Psych also happened in the final weeks. With so many iconic parts of the show now gone, does this mean the end for the series? Sadly, yes. Even though the USA Network or NBC Universal hasnt said so yet, this show is done. I'm saying it if they wont. Feel free to come here & point & laugh if they bring it back, but when cast leave for other projects and they let go of their most notable locations & props, its done. Several cast have moved on. Dule Hill has a Broadway role, Corbin Bernsen very publicly stated he wont be back, and of course James Roday said to me in my last encounter with him "since this is the end of the line..." when he was talking to me about all the autographs I got from him over the years and how he wouldn't see me again. Is it possible for a return of Psych in some form? Maybe. But it will not be any time soon. It will not be another season. it will be a TV movie at most. It will be 3-5 years from now. They will have to wait till they A- Get the OK from NBC Universal/USA Network to do 1, tne B- Have all of the cast available. That isnt coming together in the next year for sure. If there is no TV movie in the next 5 years, then there will never be a return. For now, the show is ending after 8 glorious seasons. To the cast - thanks for a great show & more or less always being great with myself & other fans at the sets. To the crew - For the mostpart, I found you all to be really classy, respectful & helpful to myself & fans visiting the set, something that isnt always the case for all shows. To the creators, directors & writers - You have earned my applause, a lot of applause. To the fans. All great things must come to an end. But dont worry.... you still have several more months to get there....oh, and I still have a couple more nuggets to post from season 8 filming....so theres that too eventually. In the mean time, take in some pics from 1 of the last Psych sets I ever encountered.

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR SEASON 8 PREMIERE OF "PSYCH". Do not read on, or view photos if you do not want to know anything prior to seeing the episode.
. . . last warning . . The cast & crew for the current longest runnng show on the USA Network, the comedy-drama crime show "Psych" are back to work on their 8th season already. I caught up to them filming on 2 different occasions in their opening week. First I caught them just a block off of Sunset Beach in Vancouver filming scenes that included Lassie (Timothy Omundson) at an apartment. At the time, I thought very little of the apartment till I stumbled across the trailers & found a trailer for....MARLOWE. This got me thinking, is this where the Lassiter-Viccellio love nest is? Only time will tell. This past week USA Network officially confirmed Marlow weould be back in season 8 for a guest role, as well as the Cary Elwes character Pierre Despereaux. A few days later, I was told about them being in New Westminster. After a long exhaustive game of "follow the bread crumbs" I found the set in uptown New West, a quiet neighbourhood of above average value houses. On set that day, I saw Shawn & Gus (James Roday & Dule Hill) along with Juliet (Maggie Lawson). I also saw another cast member there. Unfortunately, I have no photos of this cast member on set at this time, because the specific person in question asked me not to post photos of them there that day, as it was a plot point that hasnt come up yet (and I instantly knew this person was right, having watched the show enough). Also on set on this day was, the blueberry. The scenes were all indoors while I was there, so I didnt see any filming...but here is my 1st pics of Psych cast & crew back at work for the 8th & likely final season (if James Roday & Dule Hill were telling it like it is at the Upfronts last week).. This past week PSYCH spent Halloween filming scenes for the season 7 Finale - NO SPOILER post11/4/2012 Last week I was eager to find Psych filming, as it was the last week of season 7, and depending what the powers that be at the NBC run USA Network that have already been grossly incomptent in mismanaging the shows premiering date, could end up being the shows final season.
My adventure started on the 29th. I followed a lead to South Vancouver, only to literally miss them finishing by less than 1/2 an hour. My buddy & I found out though that they were heading to the studio where they filmed partly on the 30th. As it turned out, they also did some on location shoots, and I headed over there to catch them the next day...only to AGAIN miss them, this time by mere minutes as I saw James Roday leave the set in 1 of their transportation vehicles. The original wrap date for the show was the 30th, so this was pretty disappointing. Occasionally, shows will need a couple days more than their original end date to finish up. Luckily, I would find out, this was the case for Psych. While I stood around, deciding what to do in the pouring rain I came across 1 of their film notices & saw a tidbit of hope, they still had to film on the 31st. About 500 feet from there, I found another film notice for Psych, also with filming for the 31st on the next block down. I was making SURE I didnt miss this. The morning of October 31st I made the trek over to the Lonsdale Quay area of North Vancouver, a city I had NEVER gone to for filming. Luckily, the locations were very close to the Quay, which is easy to find, since the aquatic transit vehicle, the seabus drops off right there. I walked over to where they were supposed to be filming, but nothing was around, except for a few no parking signs. The film notice suggested filming should start around 8 AM, and with it being 9 AM when I got there, I was quite confused to not see any setting up, filming, or taking down of the filming area. From there I walked around a corner to where I saw some pylons, and there I saw it.... the Blueberry, parked next to another film vehicle in a lot, all by itself. It would be almost FOUR HOURS till they started filming in that location. They did a few different scenes, some of which I am not going to entirely explain in this post, as I will save it for another blog post later this week with a mild spoiler (for those who dont read message boards or saw their S7 promo ad it might be a big spoiler). The scenes essentially show Shawn & Gus in the blueberry driving around following this other vehicle. Eventually we see scenes shot where James Roday & Dule Hill are at a hot dog stand with fistfulls of snacks, (hotdogs & drinks.). Gus & Shawn walk away from the truck, Shawn gets a call on his phone & they proceed to watch someone behind camera walk along holding a sign. That is, the end of the scene. Later that evening, I found Dry Gulch Slim & Ovaltine Jenkins doing interior scenes at a restaraunt on Lonsdale Ave, unfortunately, the only shots to be had from there was of the well lit outside of the building, as the filming was all indoors. So, here are pics from the day of shooting... and dont forget, I will have more photos from this day of shooting later in the week of another cast member doing part of the scene holding a very Psych-y sign as the person drives by Shawn & Gus. |
