Supernatural started shooting season 11 in July with the 3rd episode of the season first.

On the 7th, I caught them out twice. First at a scene with Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki & Ruth Connell earlier in the day.

Later, they did interiors scenes in a more upscale bar than you usually find Supernatural filming in at the   Bar next to the Granville Skytrain station.

The scene seemed to involve to unknown cast (maybe others as well? If anyone can ID the two actors, please let me know so I can credit them properly.) in a scene inside. Director Jensen Ackles was there, but unlike the scene earlier in the day I saw him at, he was dressed more casual than I would expect if he were in the scene. I feel he was there JUST in a directorial capacity. No other notable cast were at that shoot.

Although the crowd of fans got an unexpected surprise when former recurring star Ty Olsson (Benny) rolled by in a van & stopped to chat with the fans while waiting for the light to change. This actually was the 2nd guest star sighting at set that day, as earlier in the day Mitch Pileggi was at the set with his daughters to help them meet the boys.

Another unexpected arrival at set was when Danneel Ackles showed up with Jensens daughter J.J. shortly before the lunch break. Eventually the pair left with the boys driver and went to a restaurant to await Jensen  for his lunch break.

When they went on lunch break, Jensen came out with the guest stars, chatted for a moment and then walked to his lunch. I caught up to him briefly around the corner, out of the way of the majority of the fans waiting there & asked him to sign. Of course, being able to get up to him, he willingly obliged & said "I'll just do 1 though, as my family is waiting for me" and I nodded in understanding & let him go on his way afterwards. This marked the 1st ever time I have got Jensen Ackles to sign while at set.

After the scene in the bar, the crew moved across the street to an alley.

Director Ackles made his way across the street after he was driven across the 2 lane street, instead of just walking 50 ft to the light & crossing across. I am sure that was more the idea of the driver than his own, but still I actually couldn't believe they did it.

Once over there, they put the final touches on the alley for a scene that only had1 cast member at it.

Misha Collins arrived to shoot a scene, and there was very little that could be taken from the scene. He seems to walk out of a space and into the alley. Perhaps more happened later? I don't know. I eventually packed up my day after Misha came over and greeted fans & signed for me.

You can catch Supernatural back for its 11th season on The CW starting October 7, 2015

Supernatural season 11 had a couple days of shooting in downtown Vancouver for its 1st episode (the 3rd episode of the season) to shoot this season.

With the shows star Jensen Ackles again directing an episode, the 3rd episode of the season was being shot prior to the 1st one to give the director & shows star enough time to do his job on it as he juggles to jobs. Donning a fairly un-Dean Winchester like Hawaiian shirt and beach hat, I assumed what I was looking at was "Director Jensen" and not him in "Dean Winchester" attire..... turns out, I was mistaken. When I saw his stunt double also wearing the same garb later, I realized.... Deans traded in the jackets & fed suits for some beach wear. When I tweeted a photo of it that day, a few fans replied with the "sand between our toes" line that Dean says last season to Sam. Perhaps Dean got to experience that.... guess we'll have to wait to see.

On this particular day, a few cast members were seen (some in unofficial capacities). Season 10 troublemaker Rowena, played by Ruth Connell was back, but with a little wardrobe change for the day..... as she was sporting blonde hair.

Crowleys mom appeared to be doing 2 scenes there, 1 with each of the Winchesters. Firstly with Dean (either Jensen or his stunt double, our angle never quite gave us a good look) where she seems to point her finger at him and he goes flying. A bit later, a scene with Sam as Jared Padalecki roughly drags Ruth as Rowena away by her arm.

A lot of the time on this shoot it was hard to tell when they might have been rolling and when they may have been in between takes. Other times however, they were clearly on a break. During 1 of their breaks, former Supernatural guest star Mitch Pileggi stopped by with his family and introduce his kids to Jensen & Jared. The trio chatted for awhile while they re-set the scene. Funny enough, I was unaware I had even seen him till well after the fact when I was going through my pics & saw him in some of them.

Eventually Jared wrapped and left. Shortly after Ruth left. Lastly Jensen left, as he not only wrapped that location but had to head to the next spot where the crew was already preparing the next scene.

After this shoot, the crew packed up & moved to another location a few blocks away for an interior shoot that had another random former guest star sighting, and a night shoot in an alley that I will have more on in another post.
