The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Action Or Drama Program is.... Arrow (CW)

This year, Arrow returns to the top and it seemed like a foregone conclussion through much of the voting. With this win, Arrow nabs 9 Awards this year. While the show spent much of 2014 killing off characters close to the shows lead character Oiliver Queen, the shows fans have become a nearly unstoppable force on these awards. With 2587 votes, the show sets a new categorry record for most votes, and largest margin of victory 1,499 over runner up 2011 & 2012 winner Castle with 1088 votes. In 3rd is Sherlock in its 1st finals with 772 votes.
In 4th was Covert Affairs with 531 votes in the shows 1st & seemingly only finals appearance on news that it has been canceled. In 5th is Person Of Interest with 358 votes. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Recurring Actor is.... Tahmoh Penikett "Supernatural"
You have to hand it to Supernatural fans. While other shows like Castle & Arrow have dominated voting in their respective categories some years for the Best Program, actor & actress in their categories, their lack of support of recurring & guest stars on their shows is quite evident by the combined ZERO top 3 finishes in any of those categories. "Supernatural" on the other hand celebrates its 4th Recurring Actor Award with Tahmoh Penikett winning this year with 698 votes.
In 2nd was Kris Holden-Ried "Lost Girl" as the show was forced to compete for the awards offered to those with 3 to 7 appearance in the year due to the odd schedule the show had. The same for 3rd place finalist "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch who had the lead for about a day at the beginning before Penikett passed him.
In 4th was Travis Aaron Wade "Supernatural" well ahead of 5th place finisher "Arrow" actor Brandon Routh. A tie for 6th between "Person of Interest" star Enrico Colantoni & "Supernatural" star Curtis Armstrong. 8th was "Once Upon A Time" star Michael raymond James. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Director is.... Jensen Ackles "Soul Survivor" - SUPERNATURAL
I suppose as long as he is willing to direct 1 episode a year, the fans will vote for it. Jensen Ackles, 1 of the stars of "Supernatural" wins his 2nd Best Director award in 3 years for "Soul Survivor" this year. With 1,032 votes it sets a new category record, and 706 vote lead is also a category record.
Well back in 2nd was Director X for a "Lost Girl" episode Waves. John Behring was 3rd for his work on Unthinkable, the "Arrow" season 2 finale. In 4th Thomas J. Wright "Supernatural" Do You Believe in Miracles" managed to syphon 137 votes away from Jensen Ackles. In 5th & 6th were Amanda Tapping’s "Continuum" episodes Wasting Minute & Waning Minute. Neil Marshall "Game Of Thrones" finished 7th for The Watchers Of The Wall. In 8th was Nick Hurran for his work on the "Sherlock" season 3 finale His Last Vow. Pamel Fryman "How I Met Your Mother" nabbed 9th with the episode How Your Mother Met Me. Roundng out the top 10 was Douglas Aarniokoski fr his work on Seeing Red from "Arrow".

The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Episode is.... The Secret Origin Of Felicity Smoak "Arrow"
This years winner for Best Episode is NOT from Supernatural.... seriously. With a new category record 952 votes The Secret Origin Of Felicity Smoak "Arrow" won, beating out the season 2 finale of the same show, Unthinkable by a category record 193 votes. The popularity of the Felicity Smoak character might not be any more apparent than by this win. Simply having her name in the title seemed to be enough for her fans to vote for it despite it clearly not being the best of its own show from the last year. The episode featured the secondary characters backstory about her early day sof her computer hacking and cleverly tied in a current day story related to her past to make it fit.
The runner up was another Arrow episode Unthinkable. The season 2 finale. Perhaps if it was titled "Felicity Smoak's Unthinkable" it would have won instead as it had the lead for a couple days in the middle of the voting. In 3rd was Veritas from "Castle" which led in voting early on till Arrow fans rallied behind their episodes.
Rounding out the top 10 were Like Hell Part 1 "Lost Girl" which was from the "late addition" vote in. Dark Horse "Lost Girl" was 5th. Fan Fiction from "Supernatural" was the highest any SPN episode faired at 6th, Waves "Lost Girl" was 7th, Once Upon A Time In The West "Castle" was 8th, the Arrow/Flash cross over episode for "Arrow" The Brave & The Bold, came in 9th. Rounding out the top 10 was Streets Of Fire from "Arrow".
In my analysis of the semi-final voting I really felt Supernatural, Arrow, Lost Girl & Castle would struggle to win because of vote splitting, yet those shows dominated the entire top 10 list. Only THREE of the top 20 The Flash VS Arrow "The Flash" in 11th, Theres No Place Like Home "Once Upon A Time" & What Lies Buried "Murdoch Mysteries" were the only entries from their shows.
1st THE SECRET ORIGIN OF FELICITY SMOAK "Arrow" 952

The Best Action or Drama actor category had 1 of the few notable upsets of recent memory last year when secondary star John barrowman of Arrow beat out his own shows lead, and the defending 2 time winner Nathan Fillion from Castle to take the award. This year, those same top 3 finalists from last year are back & in the serious mix for this years honour. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham.
The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible.
The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Missing the mark this time were retired Breaking Bad, along with Rookie Blue, Elementary, Grey's Anatomy & The Mentalist.
The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE
