All other rules still apply. The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun, and completed primary filming in Vancouver. On this day, the crew for Legends Of Tomorrow were in an area of Coal Harbour that should be familiar to Arrowverse fans, as it was the same block that Earth 90s Flash, The Flash, Supergirl & Green Arrow faced off with The Monitor in Elseworlds. This time, they shot a couple different scenes here. The first one had Grant Gustin as The Flash, Brandon Routh as The ATOM, and Melissa Benoist as Supergirl on set. They were shooting a scene where the trio were in the middle of the street as civilians scramble to get out of there. Flash & Supergirl are facing what I assume is some type of problem, while The ATOM seems more excited to just take a selfie of himself and his friends. The Flash gives him the "are you kidding?" look, and eventually ATOM turns around to face the situation the other two were looking at. After a few moments of banter, the team seems to split up. Flash runs forward, while Supergirl simulates flying off, and The ATOM seems to just disappear (wondering if he went into super small size) off to the side of where the camera was. The license plates had "Land Of Mist' plates, which are used for Starling City usually. So it seems like this scene was set there. Also, shout out to the very random crew member that, with no request from any other crew to come and do it, decided to come and try to get in my way for literally 1 take. Guess you wanted your moment of glory, congratulations.... you now are immortalized in a Canadagraphs blog post.... well, your dead soulless eyes are, at least. You accomplished literally nothing, as the photos below can attest to. A bit later, the trio moved down the street. They were joined this time by Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heatwave for a scene. For this scene, an observation I made. Did Micks gun always look like a really fancy glue gun, or am I mistaken?? I thought it looked different. The scene seemed to have Heatwave in the middle of the street pointing his glue.... err heat gun at something/someone above him. Off to his right The Flash was busy in a tug of war with something (I mean in reality it was a crew member, but I doubt thats what its supposed actually be). Eventually the pair freeze for a moment while ATOM & Supergirl come in and act like they just zipped in. They then help The Flash in his tug of war, and Heatwave grabs on the to back end. Eventually they seem to win the tug of war, sending The Flash falling backwards with Supergirl catching him. After they did the scene, I got a chance to have my last encounter with Brandon. He came over to sign a couple autographs for me, and I told him how much again I was disappointed he was leaving, and he said he was too. I wished him and Courtney luck on whatever they do next... and that was the last I would see of him on an Arrowverse set possibly. It was also the last I would see of a Crisis set. I planned to go back for a night scene they did, but they managed to set it up, and film it in less than half an hour, so I got there less than 10 minutes after it wrapped.... but I do know it was a scene of Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane walking down the street, talking on a phone. With that, the official wrap on Crisis On Infinite Earths happened. There may be re-shoots of a scene, or pick up scenes (scenes they originally didnt decide to shoot... but after seeing what they had, decided they might need it). But officially, the 5 episode cross over has completed its principle photography on it all. IF YOU ARE READING THIS BLOG POST EARLY.... THE VIDEO DOES NOT PREMIERE TILL 5 PM PACIFIC, 8 PM EASTERN... The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun filming in Vancouver. On this 2 day shoot over 3 days, the crew of Legends Of Tomorrow shot scenes with a massive cast of stunt people on one day, and cast another in a parking lot next to an area known as CRAB Park. You may recognize it also as the place where the original Legends team first meet the Waverider.... so fitting a new group of superheroes would be there for 1 of the most epic battles in Arrowverse history on the Legends portion of the cross over. The first day had the crew shooting scenes with a variety of stunt actors. The scenes they shot there consisted of the stunts team in a battle sequence with the main big bad of Crisis, The Anti-Monitor. This was the first in person look anyone had of the Anti-Monitor on set. In the battle was The Flash, Superman, Supergirl, White Canary, Black Canary, Spartan, Batwoman, Alex Danvers, Dreamer, and Wild Dog facing off against the Anti-Monitor. At various points they did takes where the team would rush at their nemesis, before eventually being thwarted with a punch to the ground by the Anti-Monitor. The weather on this day was nothing short of miserable, so I did not stick around nearly as long as I wanted to. Luckily for me, they would be back there in a couple days, and in much nicer weather. Before and after these scenes, I did do a couple other sets. One with Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin doing a scene for an unknown portion of the cross over, and another after this with Caity Lotz doing a scene for the Legends part, and you can find that post HERE For the second day, the crew was working with the actors who do the speaking portions of the characters, and a few stunts people. On set for day 2 - Grant Gustin as The Flash - Melissa Benoist as Supergirl - Tyler Hoechlin as Superman - Caity Lotz as White Canary - David Ramsey as Spartan - David Harewood as Martian Manhunter - Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers - Nicole Maines as Dreamer Also on set was Brandon Routh, but I never saw him working. I only saw him when he left, and heard his name when they wrapped him. There was a stand in for him early in the day for "ATOM", but never saw him in any of the takes of the scene from any angle & I was at several. Others who may have been on set, but their doubles were also seen taking on some of the scenes they shot, so I am unsure which scenes, if any they did. - LaMonica Garrett as The Anti-Monitor. - Ruby Rose as Batwoman - Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog - Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary They were still doing the same scene as the other day, with the superhero gang still taking on the Anti-Monitor. But this time with simulated reactions to actions, and dialogue. At one point, the only portion of dialogue I could sort of hear throughout the day, White Canary moves closer to the Anti Monitor with the rest of the team behind her, and says something to the Anti-Monitor that ends with her muttering "For Oliver", then the whole team in unison behind her chant "For Oliver" before commencing their all out attack. After this scene wrapped, almost 2 hours past when they were supposed to, the crew moved to Ironworks to do more interior scenes. But I was too wiped out by the day at the parking lot to follow up on it.... plus I knew I had to be up early the next day for the FINAL Crisis set, which will be in my next blog post in a couple days. UPDATE: October 29, 2019 - Video of both sets added at the bottom of the post. The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun filming in Vancouver. My day started off heading out to Surrey for a shoot I had just heard about the night before. I rarely go out to Surrey, so this was a bit of a learning experience unfortunately. The night before I had been told it was for Supergirl. Yet when I got there, I found no sign it was for them. So I am unsure for which episode it was for, as it was not there too long. The weather Monday was dreadful. Continual rain ranging anywhere from light rain to downpours. Not till the late afternoon was there any points where it was moderately dry for any periods, and they were sparse. When I first showed up there, not knowing the area, I saw a large building and thought that was where I needed to go, as the only things I knew about the area it was filming is there was a new hotel and a courtyard, and it looked like that was what was there..... turns out I was very very wrong. After a 40 minute walk that included me slipping and falling on a flat surface, I found them.... RIGHT UNDERNEATH WHERE THE TRAIN LET ME OUT. If I had simply turned left instead of right when coming out, or had paid attention when coming into the station I would have noticed the modestly small film unit just beside the station. Once I got there, a lot of nothing was going on for a while. When they finally did seem to start, I had gone for a walk to check out something, and came back to see them ready to shoot a scene. Unsure exactly where the scene was talking place in the area they had set up around, I looked into the middle of the large maze of lights & skrims they had set up to give them any light they could on the dreary overcast day. I finally saw a scene shot, and it was Stephen Amell dressed as the Green Arrow doing a scene where he seems to walk towards the middle of the courtyard from the library that was there. The angle I had for that was not good, so I went looking for a different one, and eventually found one..... just in time for them to have wrapped the 2 or 3 takes they did of that very short scene. Damn. A bit later, they were doing a different portion of the scene, and again, I wasnt sure exactly where they were shooting till near the end. I kept seeing background people running, but no actors around. my problem was I was looking near where Stephen had been earlier and where the background people were now running from thinking it was going to be more or less near there, but it wasnt. They had moved the primary part of it down to where I THOUGHT they were shooting at the start of the day, near the maze of lights and skrims. By the time I found a position for it, I instantly saw the scene had Grant Gustin as The Flash zipping in and having a talk with the Green Arrow. Unfortunately Stephen was off screen, so he wasnt in full GA gear by then. They did that scene for a bit, then wrapped. That was it. They probably did less actual filming time there than I did in transportation there. I am not sure if I missed any earlier parts, but there was two Central City Cabs parked at the set, but were never used during the time I was there. Perhaps they squeezed in a quick scene in the early part of the morning before I got there..... maybe I missed it on 45 minute tour of Surrey? While I was there, I got a DM on twitter telling me of a set downtown that unfortunately I was nowhere near, and worse yet, I FELT might happen... but I had my eyes too focused on this set out of town So I made the long trek back. After finally getting back to downtown Vancouver, I got a ride from 1 of my buddies over to the location for the Legends Of Tomorrow shoot. It was a massive huge battle scene. I will have more on that in a later blog post, as it was a scene that went on for multiple days. But this post will focus on a couple late afternoon & evening scenes they did. There was first a scene that had Caity Lotz as Sara Lance doing a scene where she is walking out of an alley. She at times seemed to be holding her head and maybe disoriented from something. She walks out into the middle of a street before 1 car comes to a screeching halt right near her, and another does the same before zipping around her & the stopped car. They also had a Star City Cab there, which they quite literally used for only 1 take of this scene. Quite random. After that scene wrapped, I stumbled upon the crew setting up for a different scene just 200 feet up the street that was NOT known by anyone. Unfortunately I was exhausted & the rain had not let up still, so I only waited for a little while. The only think I do know about the scene is Audrey Marie Anderson was in the scene. But unfortunately I didnt have my camera ready when she showed up. Want more Arrowverse materials not related to Crisis? UPDATE: December 12, 2019 - I can now confirm the scene Tom Cavanagh shot is for the LEGENDS OF TOMORROW portion of the cross over, NOT The Flash portion. The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun filming in Vancouver. The Flash was filming in an area in North Burnaby they have used a few times in the past. One of the many smaller, unknown studios in the lower mainland. At the start of the day, they did scenes inside the studio with Tom Cavanagh on set dressed as the New Wells. Since he wasnt in Pariah wardrobe, I'm curious if Pariah & Wells are separate characters. I know a few speculated Wells was Pariah, but this shows that by episode 3 of the cross over, the "New Wells" is still around. After he wrapped his scene, he came over and signed a pile of autographs for me & a family that was there. I had the new Pariah photo, and he said he didnt have one yet, so I gave him one of the two I had. After that, the crew moved outside to film on a rooftop less than a mile from there at a different studio. In that scene, I got my first look at Ashley Scott & her stunt double up there doing a scene as Huntress. The weather at that point was really damp, and a bit windy, so you really have to give it up to them for having to stand on a surely uneven surface, in bad conditions & do a scene where they run at something or someone over & over again. I had seen Ashley show up to work for the day with blonde hair, so seeing her transformation into Huntress was quite something. I managed to get Ashley to sign when she showed up for work that day, then at the end of the day got a photo with her, and you can see some interesting jewelry in the photo around her neck that I only got a partial view of when she was up there on the rooftop, its a pendant that her character used to wear on the Birds Of Prey tv series. It had been reported she intended to bring this piece with her to have the wardrobe team implement it into her outfit.... and it seems they did. After they wrapped on that rooftop they went back to the other studio to do more indoor scenes. This time with John Wesley Shipp. When I saw him he was not in wardrobe yet, but the wording he used, it sounded like he was about to dress up as 90s Flash... but perhaps it was as Jay Garrick?. After I got him to sign on the way to set, I called it a day, as I was dead tired by that point. Want more Arrowverse materials not related to Crisis? All other rules still apply. The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun filming in Vancouver. On this 2 day shoot, Supergirl was shooting a variety of scenes in downtown Vancouver, at a location that has been frequently used by Arrow over the years. On set for day 1 - Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/ The Green Arrow - Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/ The Flash - Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/ Supergirl - Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/ Superman - Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer / The ATOM - Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/ Batwoman - Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak - LaMonica Garrett as either The Monitor or Anti-Monitor. Much of the filming was up on the roof of 1 of the buildings at the Plaza Of Nations. This is a roof top that Arrow has used so many times, I've lost count. (Including the season 8 premiere, which was on the same night these scenes were being filmed). It was new however to see it in use during the daytime. Throughout the morning & early afternoon the cast, and the stunt doubles did a variety of large explosion type scenes. For a while I walked around trying to find a decent spot to film, but as you can see from the photos below, rarely was I able to find a spot where I could even see much more than the top of their heads most of the time. As the day pushed on, I moved from trying to find a place to shoot to the actual part of my job that justifies me doing any of this, getting autographs. So I stood near the exit and watched as cast member after cast member left through the afternoon. One I saw leave that I never saw up on the roof was LaMonica Garrett. He was decked out with his Monitor hair do (now that I've seen a photo of the Anti-Monitor, its easy to know which is which). As I waited around there, I got Brandon Routh and Stephen Amell to sign, which was bittersweet in both instances, as it COULD be the last time I get either of them, depending on how things shake out for both actors & their filming schedules in these final days of the cross over & their respective shows, as both will be leaving soon. After lunch, I didnt see much happening, and it was clear that they were going to be filming inside the abandoned Edgewater Casino, so I left for a couple hours for my own lunch break. As anyone with Stephen Amell on social media knows, a photo with all the cast that were there (minus LaMonica) was taken that evening with his daughter Mavi. While I did see some of the cast leave, I managed to not actually see them all leave. After the wrapped a few of the cast, I headed home, knowing full well I'd have to do this again the next day potentially. On the second day, all the same cast as the first day were there shooting, except LaMonica Garrett. This time, the day started off with the cast filming in the remnants of the old Plaza Of Nations amphitheatre, which now is just an empty pit. The scenes they shot seemed to have the cast all showing up to a spot amongst the rubble, as the Green Arrow and Mia Smoak are the last two to arrive, the group has a small chat, before the Supes fly off, and a group of 4 including Batwoman, The Green Arrow, The ATOM & Mia walk off past a burning car. An odd occurance happened while this scene was being shot. Just randomly, after a few takes, the crew started all holding up umbrellas angled in a way to try and prevent me from seeing what was going on. This isnt a NEW tactic. But it is new for Supergirl.... and, as I pointed out to multiple staff that day, one that never works. All it does is annoy people at set doing what I do. It doesnt stop us. Just annoys. We still get our shots, we just have to try a bit more. They wated the resources of EIGHT crew members on this fruitless tactic, instead of them doing their actual jobs. I am sure WB and The CW would be thrilled to know multiple hours of crew time were spent unsuccessfully trying to block 1 person from getting photos. There are certain things I am sure in all types of work/hobbies that newcomers just dont understand how its a thing.... and I am sure this has to be 1 for newcomers to this. Its never succeeded on a single thing I've been at. All it does is frustrate people like me, which then makes us try a bit harder, and thus, be an inconvenience back. Whether on that day, or down the road. Eventually, the cast & crew moved back inside Edgewater to continue on shooting stuff from the scenes from the day prior. I called it a day at that time, and headed home. UPDATE: OCTOBER 26, 2019 - Video from the shoot has been added at the bottom of this post. The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun filming in Vancouver. On this day, Supergirl was shooting a variety of scenes in downtown Vancouver, that also included a short scene for Legends Of Tomorrow's episode that was being piggybacked off their unit to save time & $$. At 1 location, there were scenes inside the Butcher & Bullock Pub. They shot scenes in there for Supergirl AND Legends. Essentially with the same cast for all of it with 1 slight change between the two shows scenes. The pub was on Earth 1, and in Star City.... but I didnt catch if it had a name. In the opening scene they shot, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance and Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer (not Superman) were sitting in a pub playing trivia when Audrey Marie Anderson comes in as Harbinger and recruits them for Crisis. This scene was for the Supergirl episode. The later scene had Ray & Sara still there, but this time David Harewood as J'onn J'onnz was there with the pair, still in the same pub, just with J'onn there now instead of Harbinger. This scene seems like its after Crisis has ended, and maybe the pair were put back where they were found? But why is J'onn there now? This scene was for the Legends Of Tomorrow episode. I didnt really get a chance to photograph any of the people for that portion as I was busy trying to do my other part of this job there, getting autographs. I did snap a couple quick pics of David going in when he arrived. But that was it from there. Over at the other set, which was much more public. The early scene, which I missed because I was busy trying to cover off that other location, plus I had to leave for half an hour to cover a non-filming related thing, had a scene I sorely am disappointed to have missed. I saw the rehearsals for the scene, but the on screen actor was not there for it yet, just a stand in, with a large dog. Thankfully local set watcher TheMysciraBound caught the scene, and was generous enough to allow use of some of her photos below. The original Robin from the Batman TV show in the 1960s. Burt Ward was on set. He was decked out in Robin colours, and I am sure a lot of people want to theorize that hes a retired Robin living the good life walking Ace the Bathound. But I found out, his character name is literally "Burt Ward". He is on Earth 66 (the same year the series debuted... this will be a recurring theme I suspect as we already know 90s Flash came from Earth 90.... and another easter egg in the next scene descriptions below.). He looks up in the sky while walking a dog (no name for the dog was heard), and blurts out "Holy crimson skies...." (there was more, but the person I got the details from didnt hear it all)... and that was it. Burt was done for the day, and possibly the series. One other detail I can confirm about this scene. It will be in the first few minutes of the episode, as they show things going on with the different earths.
A scene was then done out in the middle of the street at Oceanic Plaza (a very busy & popular filming location) that consisted of Ruby Rose as Batwoman fighting members of a gang in bunny masks. At some point she gets the upper hand, she has a gun type decide pointed at the gang as they are running around being a menace. We then find all the bunny guys on the ground motionless as she moves in towards 1 of them, a bright light appears and Harbinger is there. She tells Batwoman she is needed for the Crisis, and BW chalks her up to just another crazy and throws some batarangs at her, which do absolutely nothing. A few of the Harbinger shots at the beginning come from an anonymous fan who allowed me to use their photos. They had a much better vantage point than I found, so I am grateful for their efforts.
A bit later, they did a stunt, and while they were prepping to do that stunt, on a different part of the area, they did a small quick scene with Robert Wuhl reading a newspaper, and he looks up into the sky. This scene takes place on Earth 89, and if you are confused by why that is, you obviously did not watch the 1989 Batman movie. Robert plays Alexander Knox, a reporter in that movie. I unfortunately was too exhausted to wait out that scene, but I did see them rehearsing it with a stand in sitting on the bench in his place. But it looked like they might be awhile till they were filming it, so I called it a night. When I have more time this weekend, I may have some video from the Batwoman scenes. But for now, here are photos of the scenes. Lastly, a little bonus. I am sure some fans want me to talk about the scoop I broke that honestly, crippled my twitter mentions. I'm aware theres a rabid fandom for this show & character, but really, I did not expect anywhere near this impact. You may have seen this tweet from me....
So, by sheer fluke I stumbled across The Flash filming at a studio that Arrow uses. While much of the crew there were terrific, one particular driver there decided they were going to flash their high beams right at me and a crew member when the cast was leaving theer trailers to get into the vehicle as a way of trying to prevent me from seeing them.
Well joke was on them, because I had actually seen the scene shot in part a couple takes inside the alley way they have at the studio. In it, I saw Matt Ryan as John Constantine, and Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak there with of all peopel Tom Ellis dressed as Lucifer Morningstar. If you are an Arrowverse fan unfamiliar with Lucifer Morningstar, he is a character from a DC Vertigo property named "Lucifer". I also saw David Ramsey at the set, but from the angle I was at, I never actually saw him IN the scene. But there was literally no other reasons he would have been there, so I have to believe he was in the scene from an angle I could not see from the 2/3 of a city block away angle I had. All I know of the scene is, they walk out of a building that has a sign above it that says "hotel". I am sure some want photos. But its a private business, and shooting a scene in there would be at the least, a small problem morally, and depending what argument they wanted to go with, legally... So all I can do is report on it. ONLY reason I reported on it at all, is because of that 1 driver. I was completely willing to let that this slide by since I had no photos of it, but he tried to be a jerk on purpose, so, there it is. I also found out a couple other scoops this week. HOWEVER.... they are on things I did not witness myself. Thus why I am not including them in this blog post. Want more Arrowverse materials not related to Crisis? All other rules still apply. The massive 5 episode, 6 TV show Arrowverse cross over Crisis On Infinite Earths has begun filming in Vancouver. On this day, they were filming Legends Of Tomorrow portion of the cross over in North Vancouver near Lonsdale Quay at a location recently used by Supergirl. Grant Gustin as The Flash, Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Reina Hardesty as Joss Mardon, aka - Weather Witch and a special cameo by Marv Wolfman (credit to Eben Adams on Youtube for noticing it was him) were on set for the scenes shot for this day of shooting. Police cars for National City were on set, so I think its fair to think this is a scene in National City, evne though its in the Legends part of the cross over. In the early part of the day, a scene was done with Weather Witch holding a large staff. She made a few motions like she was using it in a battle. But I had no more context than seeing her swinging it around a bit to know what she was doing with it. No other actors seemed to be in the scene with her. A little while later Grant & Melissa showed up to shoot a couple scenes. First up, a scene where The Flash zips in while Supergirl seems to be engaging with Weather Witch, then the Weather Witch is seemingly pushed out of the area as The Flash zips in. Did he save Kara? Or was it just coincidence that Joss leaves as The Flash arrives? Let me just also say, apologies in advance for the quality of some of the photos. I was quite faaaaar away as I show you in 1 photo below, and quite windy at times, but even for that distance, these photos did not feel like they were up to what I usually would expect of myself. So, apologies for the potato quality of many of them. As the duo were preparing to shoot their scenes, I saw the stunt double for Melissa there, rocking a black Superman sweater. For a moment, I thought it was a suit, and thought "oh boy, what a reveal", then I saw it said "season 4" on the sleeve and my excitement level dropped..... still a cool sweater though. A bit later the duo were doing a scene that still has me baffled, for the most part. To be honest, I am curious if the writers were just taking a jab at me, and people like me.... and truthfully, I'm okay if they were. It was amusing. The Flash and Supergirl are standing together, seemingly with no imminent threat around. They turn around 1 way, before a couple moments later, turning back the other way. When they turn back around, an older man is standing there (Wolfman), and asks The Flash for his autograph. Yes, you heard me right. They had The Flash sign an item over, and over, and over, and over again, while not one take was done of Supergirl being asked to sign it, even though she seems to be pictured in the photo. After they finished that scene, most of the cast & crew left.... as did I. There might have still been more to film there that day, but I had something else I had to get to unfortunately, so the timing of the break in filming worked out wonderfully for me.
