September is a monumental month for autograph hounds in Canada. Its the start of the NHL pre-season, our most popular sport across the country, as well, the Toronto International Film Festival takes place. TIFF 2013, the 38th annual festival, takes place from Sept 5-15 & as usual, I'll be there taking in the opportunities to get autographs from some of the largest names of TV & movies. As always, there is a lengthy list of notable names with films there. Academy Award winners like Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jessica Lange, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Sandra Bullock, Nicolas Cage, William Hurt, Adrien Brody, Colin Firth, Kevin Kline, Robin Williams, Jim Broadbent, George Clooney, Juliet Binoche, Judi Dench, Marcia Gay Harden & Tilda Swinton are all in 1 or more films at this years festival. Popular stars of this generation like Daniel Radcliffe, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Emilia Clarke, Ralph Fiennes & Dakota Fanning also have films at the festival. Theres then an even longer list of "hey, I know them from something" names. With so many names, so many shows going on over only 10 days, you need to prioritize if you are planning to catch celebs...and that means picking & chosing who is most important to you. Whether as a fan, or a seller, you need to generate a list of who you want to get the most, because you simply cant get everyone. (please vote on the poll below for who you most want me to see at TIFF) So here is my list of my top 20 for TIFF 13. Its a mixture of who I want to get for myself, or just want to get to say I got them or for financial benefits. (note - not all names are guaranteed to be at the festival, so please dont take my list as a guarantee of their arrival... it is merely who I would like to get if they are there) 1- Melissa Rauch (The last 3 years in a row I have gotten my #1 on my list. Johnny Depp, Michael C. Hall & Chloe Moretz. This year, I am picking someone that was not on the initial guest list... so theres a good chance getting my #1 wont even be an option. ) 2- Benedict Cumberbatch (If Ms. Rauch doesnt show, Benedict, the man who brings Sherlock Holmes to life, will be my #1) 3- Michael C. Hall (Former #1 target of 2011 is still high on my list since the last season of Dexter is under way) 4- Emilia Clarke (Hot girl who walks around naked 1/3 of the time on Game Of Thrones? Yeah, like I wasnt going to have her on the list) 5- Chris Hemsworth (As Thor, hes become a household name.) 6- Jessica Chastain (back-to-back Academy Award Nominations. Shes gonna win 1 sometime in the next 5 years) 7- Brad Pitt (If he comes, he will be sought after target for no other reason than to right the fact I haven't gotten him the 1st 2 times I saw him) 8- Hailee Steinfeld (Always some newcomers to my list every year, this year, Hailey has grabbed my attention as someone to nab, 2010 Academy Award nominated actress) 9- Meg Tilly (This Golden Globe winning recluse was most recently on the hit Bomb Girls. She is making a rare public appearance this festival for the 30th anniversary of The Big Chill) 10- Magda Apanowicz (My crush of her character on Hellcats not withstanding, I've quite liked her work on everything I have seen her in, most recently the Canadian sci-fi hit Continuum) 11- Lorenzo Izzo (Saw her a couple years ago at TIFF & was so taken aback by how gorgeous she was, I had to find out who she was. Now that I know, time to get her autograph.) 12- Karen Gillan ( I may not watch Doctor Who, but I know enough to know I'd be a fool not to go for her) 13- Scarlett Johansson (A household name now adays. ScarJo will be on most peoples list, regardless if they ae fans of her work or not.) 14- Kurt Russell (Grindhouse & Miracle. Thats all) 14- Julia Roberts (Academy Award Winner should be enough to make the list...but I just want to get her really because of Pretty Woman) 15- Joel Edgerton (I've met Tom Hardy, I've met Jennifer Morrison, I've met Nick Nolte. So obviously I need to meet the final piece of the "Warrior" main cast) 16- Brendan Gleeson (Huge In Bruges fan, so excited that 2 of the 3 are at the fest) 17- Ralph Fiennes (see Brendan Gleeson) 18- Meryl Streep (when a legend this big is at any event, even if you dont care for them...you go for them) 19- Jennifer Aniston (met her once many many years ago & had nothing of note to get signed, now I will.) 20- Hugo Weaving (V For Vendetta, that about says it all) 21- Liam Neeson (even though hes a prick, still love most of his work) 22- Marcia Gay Harden (kind of an off the map 1. Really only want to meet her because of the amazing job shes done this year on The Newsroom) 23- Mke Myers (met him several times, but still always excited to meet him again) 24- Kate Winslet (Titanic is all I really know her from. But isn't that enough reason to go for her?) 25- Daniel Radcliffe (I loathe the Harry Potter franchise. But that said, I like money. So I will go for this stiff) Honourable mention - Nicole Kidman, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Fassbender, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Judi Dench, Tom Welling, Keanu Reeves, Tobey Maguire, Pierce Brosnan, Jude Law, Katheryn Winnick, Peter Sarsgaard, Alia Shawkat, James Van Der Beek, Metallica, Alice Cooper, Hugh Jackman, Sandra Bullock Notables not on my list - Reese Witherspoon ( she isnt going to sign more than 2 or 3 autographs anyways...just long enough for the cameras to get pictures of her interacting with the "common folk" so why waste my time. Shes a bitch, thats the nicest thing anyone who has ever met her can say about her) - Glenn Close (got her 2 years ago. I really am not impressed enough by her work to care to chase this fairly elusive signer) - Jake Gyllenhaal (the lesser talented of the Gyllenhaal siblings, hes a douchebag. I'd rather ask homeless people for their autograph than giving him the satisfaction of ignoring me) - Zack Galifinakis (outside of the Hangover, has he done ANYTHING to warrant such a big ego? No? Thats what I thought. When he comes back down to reality, maybe I'll care. Till then, his self importance of himself makes him irrelevant to me) - Owen Wilson (really untalented, terribly unfunny, and a bit of a prick. Cant be bothered) - Keira Knightley (I got her last year & was really underwhelmed by her. Maybe once her ego comes down to reality I'll place more value on her. For now, shes a mediocre actress with too much of an ego & an abysmal autograph.) My 2012 TIFF saw me go 10/25 (got my #1 Johnny Depp) My 2011 TIFF saw me go 9/30 (got my #1 Chloe Moretz though) My 2010 TIFF saw me go 8/20 (got my #1 Michael C. Hall) How will TIFF 2013 go? Who will I get? Who will I miss? Will Ms. Rauch show up? Will my 3 year streak of getting my #1 continue to 4 years? I will update this blog as the festival goes on. I will TRY to do it everyday, but as those of you who read my previous years blogs know, it will probably be more of every 2-3 days.

Psych films scenes for a season 8 episode at a food truck festival with James Roday & Dule Hill8/26/2013 Recently, the USA Network held a vote for fans to pick an episode that the show Psych would film. One of the choices was where Shawn & Gus open their own Food Truck after the murder of a food truck owner to try & catch the culprit. It wasnt MY 1st choice. But it certainly seemed like everyone elses... and even though it somehow didnt win, they still made the episode. Recently I caught them filming scenes for this episode in an area of South False Creek in Vancouver that I literally didnt even know existed. They filmed there for 3 days. Two days 1 week, then another day the next week. I missed the 1st day, but caught them there the other 2 days. On the 1st day I was there... I saw Shawn (James Roday) & Gus (Dule Hill) doing a variety of scenes in a food truck court. While many of the scenes were of the pair going up to other food trucks and talking to their vendors. The 1 I found best, was the 1 I heard best. The 1st scene I saw done had Shawn & Gus, walking along offering free samples of their admittedly, delicious sounding foods (I wont spoil what it is, but imagine thanksgiving in a fried ball) to passer-bys when they are confronted by an angry fitness club owner (played by Sean Tyson) & a witty, Psych-esque banter takes place with the 3 before the fitness club owner forces Shawn & Gus to leave. I've been to a lot of Psych sets over the time here & rarely do I ever find the scenes they shoot to be overly amusing (mainly because you rarely get to hear TOO much of whats being said) but this one made me smile a lot & took every ounce of my self control to not break out laughing on the set a few times. Later on in the day they did some scenes at a few of the food trucks of Shawn & Gus asking different trucks owners questions & of course, trying their foods. I found some of the names of the food trucks were brilliantly funny too. Whoever spent the time coming up with some of these names, genius. India.Are.We, Meat & Mrs. Jones, In The Vegan-Ing, Gangsta Wraps & Mash&Grab (which Shawn & Gus are with) just some of the names I had a good chuckle at. The menu at Mash&Grab was absolutely priceless as well. My friend took a photo of the entire menu and I nearly cried from laughter reading them. I dont know who the woman in the Food Truck pictured is, but she had to be someone, as she got shuttled back with a cast vehicle & not with the extras. Also, I saw Kirsten Nelson at the set, but she never seemed to be in a scene. Perhaps just passing by & stopped to say hi to her cast & crewmates? Also saw 1 of the main writers Saladin Patterson on set. I will have more from this episode soon. Including some other cast on set for scenes in the same food truck court, and a notable spoiler from the episode. Recently, Psych, the hit comedy-drama from the USA Network filmed scenes for its season 8 finale. Which is also believed to be the series finale (I have been told by multiple sources it is the series finale, but no official word from USA yet). On 1 of the days, I caught the cast & crew down near English Bay filming scenes so secretive that they did the very un-Psych like action of aggressively covering up any view of the scene. While I do know what happened in the scene, for now, I wont spoil that. Instead, here are some photos of the cast & director Steve Franks on the set. James Roday, Dule Hill, Maggie Lawson & Kirsten Nelson were all spotted on set that day. With Maggie Lawson leaving merely days after this shoot to start her next job on her new show "Back In The Game" in Los Angeles, this very well could be the last scenes Maggie ever shot for Psych. I will have more from this set, with some grainy, more notable photos later this summer. For now...here you go. Also, coming soon, some photos from another episode they filmed outside a lot, about a murder in a food truck festival. Over the last couple months I caught Psych out & a around a few times where there either wasnt much to shoot, or, in the case of the photos of 1 particular cast member in a outfit we have not previously seen him in, was asked not to post them right away (since they showed him in the said outfit at Comic-Con on their promo reel...cats outta the bag now). Here is a collection of these pics. Including guest stars Loretta Devine (Boston Public & The Client List) & Tom Arnold (Roseanne) who were in different episodes that I crossed paths with over the past couple months. Of course, I have more photos coming soon of the final weeks of filming for the 8th & very likely final season of the USA Network hit comedy drama. A few weeks ago, I saw King & Maxwell, the new crime-drama detective show on TNT filming what I assumed was scenes for their finale. Well jokes on me. The scenes were of course in last weeks episode. With the season finale to air tomorrow, I felt now would be a good time to post my last set from the show. Hopefully, this was not my last set from them all together, as I have actually found the show fun & hope for more of it. In this scene I saw the aftermath of the scene where the big guy just finished obliterating Kings car with shots. Here Michelle, armed with her gun & Sean, armed with uhhh his wit? sneak up behind the culprit & apprehend him just before Carter shows up. Throughout this season I caught them out a handful of times, and while I was unsure of the premise before seeing it & thus, didnt cover it maybe as hard as I should of, I really liked the overall dynamic & found the cast generally pleasant. My 1st encounter with Rebecca Romijn left me uncertain of her after I saw her refuse a fans request for a photo with, but as the season went on, she became much more accomodating of the regulars & even thanked 1 of the local photographers for his work on covering the show this season. Jon Tenney was also pleasant, and thanked me for watching. Ryan Hurst was an absolute joy to meet the 1 & only time I did. Maybe next season (fingers crossed) I will get to meet Chris Butler (Agent Carter) Michael O'Keefe (Agent Rigby) & Dichen Lachman (Benny) as well... now that I know who they are on the show. Catch the season 1 finale of King & Maxwell on TNT tomorrow night. Should be a good 1. This week the 2nd Percy Jackson film hit theatres this week.
Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters will continue from the 1st film Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Despite the 1st films 49% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes & only 54% from the fans, or its abysmal 5.8 on IMDB, the 2nd installment in the book series "Percy Jackson" was filmed last year in Vancouver. The main cast from the 1st film, Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth) & Brandon T. Jackson (Grover) are all back in the 2nd installment. Leven Rambin (The Hunger Games) & Douglas Smith (Big Love) join Firely & Castle star Nathan Fillion in this film. I caught up to the set a couple times. While I was solely there to get Nathan the one time, I managed photos of the main 3 with Douglas on a different set visit. Its a shame that Logan Lerman, who is LITERALLY known for nothing besides these films is so egotistical now. He was a nice kid during the 1st film. But this last time, he was snarky, rude & in 1 case, made a girl cry when he told her no in his now trademark "I'm better than you" attitude slathered way. Its a shame, because the rest of the cast was class. Alexandra, Brandon, Leven, Douglas & even Nathan were all quite good with the fans. I got autographs from all of them at 1 time or another. All of them took time to meet fans, interact with them & were genuinely nice people. So I am boycotting this series due to Logan's attitude. I don't see any reason to support his work. He was just as rude last summer at TIFF when I watched him storm by 100s of waiting fans without even stopping for 1 photo with or signing 1 autograph. For those who still are fans of this series (I suppose there are a few of you...since they made a 2nd one for some reason) here are some photos from my days around the set & the cast out & about. I have many more, but simply didn't feel like editing them. If there is good amount of traffic for this post, I may add some more next week. Percy Jackson Sea Of Monsters is in theatres now. THIS POST CONTAINTS NOTABLE SPOILERS FROM LAST NIGHTS FINALE OF AMC'S "THE KILLING". Do not read if you have yet to watch the episode & don't want any spoilers.
. . . last warning . . So last night the season 3 finale of the AMC crime-drama "The Killing" was on. We finally got to the bottom of who was the Pied Piper, the person killing street kids & Trisha Seward. In the end, Linden got her man......LITERALLY! After going thru an assortment of Seattle's seediest people & Pastor Mike, the finale lead us down 1 more rabbit hole in Reddick before we came across the guilty mass murderer, Lieutenant James Skinner. For weeks, many had the killer narrowed down to "either a cop or a corrections officer" and while that was a broad net to cast, since that entailed 1/2 the suspects, it made sense & in the end, was accurate. As usual, the acting in last nights finale was stellar. The scene where Linden finally pieces together its Skinner, wow. You could almost literally read it going thru her mind, her processing the details, there was the shock, denial, confusion and eventually absolute certainty that the man she had been sleeping with was also the killer of at 21 (or more, he admitted there was more they would never find) girls. The show was not with out flaws for me. I was a bit disappointed we didn't get our "Larsen family watching a video Rosie made" moment of closure for anyone. Danette, Kallie's mom, still doesn't know where her daughter is, although we all know now she is certainly dead as Skinners daughter had her ring. That was the only thing of note I thought was missing that season 2 had. If the writers really appreciate their fans, they will slip in 2 minutes into the season 4 (yes, I am cautiously optimistic it will happen) premiere to tie this loose end up. Get that woman her closure. I also wasn't a fan of the IA scenes with Holder. I doubt if Skinner put in a complaint only an hour earlier they would have already come in & grabbed him without even talking to Reddick about it first. That felt unbelievable to me. But it gave Holder a chance to be his clever smart ass self. His trick to get Reddick back to the station by claiming there was a bomb in his car, brilliant. I laughed at his ability to think outside the box. It also helped advance the storyline when Holder realized Skinner was the killer, and managed to coerce Reddick to go look for Adrian while he tried to track down Linden & Skinner. Of course there was some redemption. The Keystone Cop turned out to actually be a capable officer in the end. Carl Reddick, after making everyone hate him all season comes thru in the finale & finds missing Adrian Seward alive & well ( at least physically.). He even manage da couple great wisecrack remarks. I felt some confusion as well. The Twitch & Lyric scenes left me unsure where that would lead. Twitch seemed willing to finally put his past behind him as we see him throw away a bag of drugs. Yet the last we see of Lyric, who seemed to be getting her life together as she now had an actual job, was smiling at a guy who clearly was looking to pick up a prostitute. I thought it was interesting that this season ended with Linden making a massive error in judgment. I liked it. The reason, I just think its good to have cops with human emotion. They don't always make the right decisions. They too can be overwhelmed by emotions. She did, and it will be interesting to see how that's dealt with between now & season 4. Season 3 of The Killing was, in my mind, even better than seasons 1 & 2. Although I felt the actual finale episode was a tad imperfect, the overall season was pretty much flawless to me. I REALLLLLLY hope whatever deal Netflix has with AMC to produce more episodes of The Killing already has a season 4 in there. Below is an assortment of photos I took this season on the set of The Killing....Of course there was some Linden & Holder pics. But I also managed to catch Bullet, Adrian, Reddick & Skinner on set over the season. Including a few from the finale. You can find all my photos from this season here http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/6/category/the%20killing/1.html |
