Coming off their hit 1st season on the A&E network, the cast of the drama "Bates Motel" went to Comic-Con to promot ethe upcoming 2nd season.
Although production had not started on the show yet, several of the cast were in town preparing for the season prior to their SDCC engagement. I caught up to Freddie Highmore (Norman Bates), Nestor Carbonell (Sherriff Alex Romero) & Emmy nominated Vera Farmiga (Norma Bates) on their way out of town. They were all pleasant signers & also seemed incredibly excited to see each other there. Clearly they hadnt crossed paths much, if at all since being in town. Which wasnt too surprising considering they wouldn't even start filming for another week or more. On the return, I caught up to those 3 again, along with Max Theriot (Dylan Massett) & Olivia Cooke (Emma Decody). While Vera seemed a little less receptive than when she was leaving town, the rest of the cast were again terrific with anyone that asked them for photos or autographs. Since this show doesnt film in Vancouver (it films in Aldergrove, about hour outside the city) this was my 1st chance to meet any of this cast. The thing I found most disturbing from them was, how the majority of the cast were being driven around by a driver who is hated by the B.C. Film industry. Whichever company that hired this person to drive people from an industry shes blacklisted in really should have done their homework a bit better. Of course, she probably lied to them on her resume, doubt she added that she was fired from being a transport driver on sets because she lied on her application for that job. The 2nd season of Bates Motel will start airing sometime in 2013 on A&E.

Last week on AMC's "The Killing" a monumental moment in season 3 happened.
As Linden & Holder are at Joe Mills storage locker after a showdown with Joe. Linden looks thru all the missing rings of the girls that Reddick "found" (I say it in parentheses because it screams set up to me) and inside there, she finds the chain Bullet wore with her signature bullet on it. Linden hastily tries to get Holder's attention, she tries to prevent him from looking inside Joe's cab where he & another officer believe another body is inside the trunk. Of course, he doesn't hear her tell him not to open it over the walkie talkie & the officer pops the trunk. Linden gets there before they open it up & begs Holder not to look inside, but of course, against better judgment he does. They of course show us Bullets "faith" tattoo in plain sight, letting everyone know, it is Bullet's body in the trunk of the cab. Much like the teeter-totter relationship Holder had with Bullet, the fans were much the same. Many loved the wisecracking street kid who acted as a protector of the other street kids despite being somewhat on the small side. Some hated her because they couldn't relate to the character or didn't like her persona. One thing was for sure though, everyone who is watching season 3 of The Killing had an opinion on Bullet. Born Rachel Olmstead, Bullet seemingly CHOSE to become a street kid despite coming from a financially well off family. Her dad still sent her money, unlike many of the other youth who only made money by exchanging sexual favours or hustling in other ways. With only 3 episodes left, there are a lot of questions to be answered about Bullet's past, and her demise. Will we get them all? Hard to say. - Why did she choose the streets over her family? Did she do so because of problems with her family? Or was it because Lyric, who she harboured an epic crush on, ended up there? - Who killed her? (it really seems unlikely it was Joe) - Did she leave any clues for Holder in all the messages she sent him who it is? Tonight will be the 1st of the final 3 episodes ( 2 weeks - next week is a 2 episode finale). It will be the 1st episode Bullet will not be part of. But that doesn't mean she cant still be "in" the show, whether thru her voice messages to Holder, or maybe a video on her phone? I just feel her death is going to somehow have a sizable impact on finding the true killer, and not just because Holder is gonna go all Robocop (haha, see what I did there) on anyone that might get in the way of him finding out the truth, including his own partner. I saw Bullet ( played by Bex Taylor-Klaus ) on set twice this season. First time, I had NO CLUE she was even a cast member. She just looked like some random street kid background person to me. Ther ewas little to no info about the upcoming season out at ths time. Had I stuck it out at the set a bit longer that day I would have known they were filming the scene where Holder confronts her on the overpass & she tells him she will take him to Goldie's apartment. I got 2 photos of her on the set, but they are so small, and I wasn't focusing on her, that she's barely visible on them. The last time, they filmed a scene 2 blocks from my house. She did a scene where she chats up a street kid "Poochie" to get some drugs (played by Bryce Hodgson from "X2") & of course learns Angie, the girl with the missing finger who saw the killer was leaving town...which of course, is the start of the end for Bullet. I of course blogged about that last sighting http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/6/post/2013/05/photos-from-the-set-of-the-killing-filming-season-3-with-joel-kinnaman-mireille-enos.html unaware still who I was photographing, or, that it would be the last time I would see her on set. Tonight, maybe we'll get some insight into Bullet's last day. If we're really lucky, we'll get some insight into her past too. I sure hope, by the end of next weeks 2 hour season finale, we will know the answers to what happened to her & of course, who is the street kid killer. Here are some of the pictures I got of Bex on set the two times I saw her. Some are re-posted from my earlier blog. But there is a few that I didn't post last time. Enjoy. Watch tonight & next Sunday for the finale to 1 of the best seasons of television there has been this year. You can find Bex Taylor-Klaus, the girl who brought the character of Bullet to life on twitter http://twitter.com/IBexWeBex THIS BLOG POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR AN EPISODE OF SEASON 3 OF "THE KILLING". Please do not continue reading or viewing photos if you do not want any spoilers prior to the episode airing.
. . . Last Warning . . On August 4th, the 3rd season of the hit crime drama "The Killing" will wrap up with a 2 hour season finale & we will find out who the street kid serial killer is. Of course, till then, lots of speculation on who is, or isnt the killer. Everyone (myself included) has theories on who it is, and why this person or that person cant be the killer. On the 2nd to last day of filming for the season I caught up to them filming on a quiet street in the Queens Park area of New Westminster for scenes at the Skinner family house. On this particular day there was 2 cast members on set. Elias Koteas ( James Skinner) & Mireille Enos (Sarah Linden). I chatted with a few people that day, including the people who owned the house they were filming in & a couple fans who had been there earlier & on the prior filming day before the weekend. I was told 2 things about the set that I didnt get to see myself. 1- A scene earlier that day was done where Linden was sitting in her car with her gun drawn (never quite got the details if someone was in the car with her, or if she was pointing it at someone outside.) 2- The previous filming day, Joel Kinnaman (Stephen Holder) was on set, and had a scene with Linden where they are knocking on Skinners door. Notably absent from the set, were Skinners wife & daughter... which I thought was odd since it was their house. What does all this mean for the finale? Who knows. This could possibly be an innocuous moment between Linden & Skinner after the case was wrapped. It could be a monumental moment that is vital to telling us who the killer is. Really, it could be anything else in between. We will just have to wait to see. On the set the day I was there, both Elias & Mireille stopped to sign autographs for those who asked while they were there. The Killing cast & crew have always been great with fans & regulars. Really hoping this was not my last encounter with them. Below are the pics from that day. My buddy joked with me, after not having seen Mireille in a few hours of being there he was really only waiting around to see what colour sweater he had this time.. Must say, if The Killing ever has a wardrobe sale here, there will be a sizable section devoted to hoodies & sweaters. The Killing can be seen on Sunday night, on AMC. Season finale is August 4th. I had the privelege of meeting Cory Allen Michael Monteith a few times.
I remember my 1st meeting, which I blogged about breifly in this post ( http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/1/post/2012/03/a-few-pics-of-glee-star-cory-monteith-in-vancouver-may-2011-with-his-band-bonnie-dune.html ). I also remember my last meeting with him. The last time I would meet Cory was at back of the East Of Main Cafe for a Project Limelight Society event that he attended with Virgin Group philanthropist Richard Branson. Cory was very involved with the Project Limelight Society. With his last retweet on the social networking site Twitter, tweeted a photo of him sitting inside the East Of Main Cafe that his agent had taken. The last week or so, I have started dabbling with a blog post about Project Limelight after being there again recently. I had found the old Cory & Richard photos of them leaving the event that day had them in my "to edit soon" folder for posting. I recently had visited the East Of Main Cafe for another Project Limelight event that featured speakers Candice Elzinga, Gillian Horvath & Peter Deluise. They gave their time to talk for 2 hours to enthusiastic fans & future film personnel about their experiences, just as Cory had. I actually had a good time at it. They were fun & informative to listen to. With his growing fandom from his work as jock-turned-musician Finn Hudson on "Glee", Cory had become the unofficial poster child for the Project Limelight Society. He probably brought more social attention to the project than anyone else thru his attendance at the small cafe on East Georgia Street for various events & his tweets & interviews where he talked about it. Project Limelight Society runs a free program for youth from the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, which is home to the lowest average income in Canada, to work with professionals in the arts, acting & music industry. Their goal is to help these youths achieve goals of performing on a stage. to boost their confidence, or, give them a chance to showcase their skills for loftier aspirations. MANY people in their program have either dealt directly, or indirectly with various types of substance abuse, and surely this is 1 of the reasons Cory felt so passionately about their cause. It is sad, and disappointing that Cory died so young. Its even sadder, and even more disappointing when you realize how much he tried making the world a better place compared to many of the egotistical & vapid celebs who sadly get too much attention. Cory Monteith had issues with substance abuse. He had gone into rehab repeatedly & even stated once he was lucky to be alive. Cory clearly wanted to give others the hope he seemingly found, and he also tried to turn things for himself around. I respect that. It is rare for me to actually feel too much sorrow for deaths that are overdose related (not that thats been confirmed in this case at this time). I really feel most of the time the people had options they refused to take to avoid that outcome. Ilive in an area, the downtown eastisde, where deaths from OD's are very common place. But I do this time. I do, not because he is a celebrity. Not because he was nice to me. But because he tried helping others with his fame, and he tried to help better himself. He got a 2nd chance & tried to make it count. He got his highschool diploma in 2011, despite not really needing it as his acting career was soaring, but it mattered so he did it. Whether its on Glee Whether its with his band Bonnie Dune Whether it is him giving his time to causes like Project Limelight. The world lost a truly good person. The world lost a great talent. The family & friends of Cory lost even more. If you want to post any condolences, you can do so & I will make every effort to print them out & pass them on to Project Limelight next time I am over there to pass on to his family...whether they get forwarded to the family, I can not say. But I'll try my best. Want to learn more, or donate to Project Limelight Website - http://www.projectlimelightsociety.org Twitter - http://twitter.com/ProjLimelight Rest In Peace Cory. My Condolences to your family, friends, co-workers & fans. Here is my photos of Cory from my last encounter. An encounter he did not have to give to me & the 2 fans & 2 photographers waiting, but did. He could have just as easily got into his vehicle in the private garage he was already in & ignored us, but he didnt. He came out, he signed, took photos & thanked us for coming out. I will be donating 1 of the Cory Monteith autographs I have gotten in the past to Project Limelight to auction off for their charity. I will try to keep you informed if/when/how they decide to auction it if you are interested in it. I will do a blog later on about my encounters with Mr. Branson, Mr. Deluise & others. But I really felt in light of last nights events, this post needed to be made now. Although the episode has already aired (episode 103), here a re a few photos of Rebecca Romijn on the set of King & Maxwell filming the scene where she sneaks a pic inside a cop car while investigating a case to clear the name of Agent Carter.
Also, the 1 and only set of photos I got of Ryan Hurst (Edgar) on set this season, after he filmed a scene. Still kicking myself for not waiting around that day, as I missed him filming his scene by less than 20 minutes because I left for a little while. I have learned to quite like this show in the short amount of time it has been on. Jon Tenney & Rebecca Romijn have had terrific chemistry as the former CIA agents turned P.I's. Ryan Hurst, as the socially challenged savant Edgar Roy is an absolute joy to watch, a real scene stealer. Even Michael O'Keefe & Chris Butler (Rigby & Carter) have carried their roles as FBI agents constantly crossing paths with King & Maxwell very well. I know it probably will never replace Leverage, but King & Maxwell has certainly minimized by disdain of the TNT network after canceling the 2013 People's Choice Award Winning show. Also glad to say, the cast seem quite friendly. Although my 1st interaction with Rebecca left me wondering if she was going to be a problem with fan interaction, she made up for it as the season went on. Jon Tenney was extremely pleasant, and Ryan Hurst I will have another set from K&M on their 2nd to last day of location shooting for the season a little later on, once I get caught up on a few other backlogged blogs I have to get thru. Anniversaries are supposed to be celebratory events. But not all anniversaries are. I mean technically every moment in the future is an anniversary of some moment in the past. Many are innocuos moments, but they are still anniversaries of something. That day you ate a cheeseburger from that restaurant, bought a pepsi or even turned on the TV to something new. Everything has an anniversary, we just dont really think of all of them. Of course anniversaries are more celebrated & bemoaned over more notable moments in your life. Years being married, years being alive, weeks since that first kiss, days since that someone left you, years since that life changing moment & of course deaths. I have lots of these large moments, and even more of the smaller ones, as do you. One small 1, that is notable to this article...I dont even remember the date of. I just remember turning on the TV, at an exact moment & got distracted by something so I didnt go looking thru the channel selector for something I would normally watch, I just left Showcase on. A show I had heard about, but never watched came on, I didnt know it at the time, but it would become my favorite show of all time. Of course I am talking about, Dead Like Me. I didnt get into DLM when most of its fans did, right at the beginning. I caught the show after it had already aired its final episode. But not too long after. This makes it even more maddening for me, since I live where it was filmed... Vancouver, Canada. Having your favorite show filming in your town is something special. You get to pass places you associate with it. But for ME, its disappointing that I didnt catch on sooner, after all I am an autograph hound. So missing a chance to meet the cast sucks for me. Since the shows cancellation, I, like many others around the world have, fought to get it back. Sure, we were "treated" to an abomination of it in the form of a straight to DVD movie that the writers, director & casting agents should be black listed from Hollywood for ever for having co-conspired to create it. Many fandoms would have been happy with that, but DLM fans wanted a proper ending, with ALL the real cast, not some fake Daisy that either the actress, or director, or both were completely void of the skill set to recreate. No one wanted that guy from Lost stealing Rubes role. ... ok, I am starting to get off topic here *unclenches fist aimed at wall* Lets bring this back around to celebrating the show. Today is a notable day in the shows short 2 season history, it is the 10 year anniversary of its birth. On June 27, 2003 a show, created by Bryan Fuller (creator of the current NBC show "Hannibal") presented us with a story about an 18 year old girl, Georgia Lass (Ellen Muth), who on her first day working at Happy Time Temp agency is killed on her 35 minute lunch "hour" by a toilet seat falling from a space station. Instead of going to heaven or hell George stays here, to be a grim reaper, a role she is not sure she even wants to have. Soon after her demise, we are introduced to her new "family" the other grim reapers she will work with. Rube Sofer (Mandy Patinkin) is her by-the-book (except a couple times when it suits him) boss who is responsible for giving out the assignments to the other reapers. He is sort of like the father figure to the group. Roxy (Jasmine Guy) is a tough as nails meter maid by profession, and of course reaps souls on the side. Her death is something she still has resentment over, a murder, that an invention she created was used to complete the task. Mason (Callum Blue), oh Mason Mason Mason is the typical fuck up who means well, but finds taking the shortest route to success often fits him better. He grows during the series, and its a shame that we never get to see if he would become a competent, stable undead person. Betty Rhomer (Rebecca Gayheart) is a reaper with a bit of an adventurous streak, she died from jumping off a cliff for fun, and leaves the series much the same way. Her replacement, Daisy, Daisy Adair (Laura Harris) seems eager to let everyone know she used to be an actress who cavorted with all types of movie personnel when she was alive. She is also more complex than the shallow persona she lays out to the public. These were the new members of Georgias family. Georgia had real family, that were still trying to deal with the real loss of their daughter & sister. Something Georgia herself often had trouble dealing with. Reggie (Britt McKillip) was her younger sister, Georgia often ignored her when she was alive, but now that she was "undead" was trying as hard as she could to be there for her. Clancy (Greg Kean) is her father, an English Professor that also is sleeping with 1 of his students. Joy (Cynthia Stevenson) is the mother that is now focusing on Reggie, after losing her oldest daughter to a tragedy she essentially sent her to by demanding she go to work. Although Rube repeatedly warns Georgia to not have contact with her old family, Georgia repeatedly ignores these warnings & spies on them over the course of the series. Of course the 1 lesson we all learned from this show is... grim reapers dont get paid. They still need places to sleep, eat & whatever else. So they either need to steal, like Mason does, from the recently deceased, or get acctual day jobs, like Roxy has. Leading Georgia, now as Millie, back to Happy Time, where she takes the same job she previously had. Her boss Delores Herbig (Christine Willes) is a far too chipper former drug addict who is committed to Happy time & takes people leaving the temp agency hard, often throwing them going away parties to celevrate their time at Happy Time. Crystal (Crystal Dahl) is the receptionist at HT & 1 of the more mysterious characters on the show. Shes observant, sometimes mean & also helpful. when she catches Georgia & her co-workiers using Happy Time 1 night to do their own work, she doesnt even blink an eye, just joins in & helps them with their task. Many have wondered if she was also a reaper, as she seemed unphased by them & in the final episode, after seeing Georgia leave HT, typed her name into the database at HT. The group of course, always meets every morning at Der Waffle Haus (pictured below) for their assignments & sometimes, even some food. Their regular server Kiffany (Patricia Idlette) seems unfazed as well by the odd behaviour of the group leaving many to wonder what her role in all of this is as well. There are questions we will never know the answer to. Although DLM did well enough ratings wise, decisions made by higher ups (mainly Bob Goldblatt) decided they wanted to bring in all new shows & wiped out many of Showtimes current shows, including DLM. Untill "Shameless" came in 7 1/2 years later, DLM still held the network record for highest rated pilot ever on the network. Years after its cancellation, people still go looking for answers about many things with the show. I know, because my blog on Der Waffle Haus location http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/1/post/2011/06/dead-like-me-fans-i-give-you-the-original-der-waffle-haus-set.html averages about 3 views a day still, with over 3300 views in its 2 year existence, it shows that even now, after all these years, people still want to know about the show. As this is the 10 year anniversary, I felt compelled to do a follow up to my DWH blog & post a few more locations I am familiar with in town. So here are a few that I managed to track down (I have many more that I just havent had time to get to....but will try to eventually get to....and maybe add onto this blog post.) The Lass Home On a quiet side street in Shaughnessey. (skytrain - get off at King Edward Stn & take a short 3 minute bus to Oak, about 3 min walk from there) near Oak & King Edward lies the Lass home. 3851 Osler Street was where a lot of scenes were shot. I dont know if the interiors were done there, or in studiom but all the exteriors. The garage sale, George & Rube sitting on the steps waiting for the milk man to arrive, and many more moments took place here. Georgia's place of death A walkway connecting Hastings & Cordova street (skytrain - 1 block south & 1 block west of Expo/Millenium Line Waterfront Stn west exit) at the end of Hornby St in the north end of the downtown core, it has changed very little since the untimely death of Georgia Lass. Flowers grow in the area where she was torpedoed. You can stand there, look towards the buildings, which are more or less still the same as then & see the path the toilet seat took. The Banana Peel death of BM Moore from the Pilot On Granville Street at Pender (skytrain - 1 block north of Granville Stn, 1 blk south of Canada Line Waterfront Stn Granville St exit), this place is now a downtown campus for Simon Fraser University. The spinning door that caused BM Moore's death is no longer there (sad). But the outside achitecture & some of the inside still remains the same. Betty Rhomer standing atop a building in the opening scenes. The Sun Tower building at the corner of Pender & Beatty (skytrain - 1 block downhill from Stadium Skytrain Station) has been seen & used by many film crews over the years. Of course, over Bettys shoulder they zoom in to an office building where Happy Time is supposed to be... One of these days, I have to find the right angle see if that building is infact there. Ronnie Dobbs sees gravelings & watches a window washer fall to his death. One of the more interesting deaths in the series was that of Ronnie Dobbs. The reason, he could see gravelings. Considered crazy by his Doctor & probably society, Ronnie was proven right when he figures out that Georgia is there on behalf of death to get him, sadly, no one but him will ever know. I havent tracked the church he dies at yet, but where he 1st sees Georgia & gravelings is at the corner of Cordova & Howe (skytrain - right at the top of 1 of the exits for the Expo/Millenium Line Waterfront Skytrain Station) infront of a Pricewaterhouse Coopers office tower. You can see in the scene where he looks out the window at the guy falling to his death that its a view from this side, as the Waterfront Centre Hotel is in the background, which is behind where these photos were taken. Daisy flashes a driver to get his car Right around the corner from the Ronnie Dobbs spot (skytrain - use same directions as Ronnie Dobbs spot & go 1/2 block west) is a crosswalk on Cordova (and the start of the pathway for Toilet Seat. Situated between Howe & Burrard on Cordova, the crosswalk & its surroundings are mostly all the same. Georgia & Mason look at themselves in a mirror & see UnGeorge & UnMason We of course all remember the scene where Georgia first realizes she doesnt look the same to the living. At the corner of Howe & Robson (skytrain - 1 block south, 1 block west of Vancouver City Centre Stn. 1.5 blocks South, 1 block West of Granville Stn Granville St exit) you will find the building. The scene was filmed on the Howe side of the building. The building that was filmed in front of hasnt changed, but the window display sure has. The book store Chapters (a long time resident of the location.. uses the spot to promote whatever sales they have now). I have a few other locations I plan to work on. Still want to track down Happy time (was told where abouts it is, but havent gone.... its quite out of the way for me). I would REALLY like to track down the "toilet tree" but judging by the background, its going to be well out of the way as well. I know where the spot is that Georgia sees gravelings & Rube explains them to her (also where Roxy lets a piano drop on a woman), I also know where the bowling alley that George bowls a winning strike for Happy Time is. A lot of the house locations are quite hard, to nearly impossible to figure out. Maybe someday I'll find the place that Mason, George or Daisy lived but probably wont.
I had hoped to have this blog up earlier in the day, but I simply cornered myself into a spot where I had to cram (procrastinated). I will look this over some day soon & hopefully addto it & edit any problems I see. But for now, here are some of the season 1 filming spots for Dead Like Me, on the 10th anniversary of its 1st ever episode airing. Now excuse me, I have to go marathon thru 2 seasons of a certain show. As promised in this blog http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/6/post/2013/06/usa-networks-longest-running-program-psych-films-an-episode-for-season-8-where-the-stars-go-to-london-england.html Psych-o's, here is a handful more photos from the shoot a couple weeks ago with Dule Hill & James Roday in "England".
Those of you who follow Dule on twitter know, he answered some fan questions during the filming of these scenes. The 1st couple of pics are of him doing his video response to one of them (I saw him doing this a couple times and wasnt sure what he was doing till later... I thought maybe he was chatting with someone). Later Holmes & Watson, I mean Black & Tan moved to an alley behind the Lamplighter Pub (aka "The Bloody Bucket") to do a scene that ended with Shawn throing a temper tantrum, stomping furiously around Gus & yelling something (couldnt tell if it was No or maybe "nein" German for "no") what was clear was, he wasnt pleased with something. Of course fans have seen a bunch of pics of this episode, as Dule has tweeted photos of him with Vinnie Jones & Pierre Despereux himself Cary Elwes. So, here is anothersmall batch of Dule Hill & James Roday on the set of their episode that is set in England. |
