Yesterday, I caught up with the cast & crew of Superman & Lois shooting a scene out in Cloverdale (the town where their big Smallville downtown set is.... but this wasnt there, it was a few blocks away). They were filming scenes for the 1st episode of the season, directed by The Flash star Tom Cavanagh. The episode title is "Closer". The scenes shot for this day included Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, and the recently recast Jonathan Kent character. Michael Bishop, was filming on set in his first public shoot since getting the role. In the first scene, the pair were driving 1 of the new trucks that the Kent boys grandad gave them at the end of last season down a street in Smallville, with Lois in the passengers side clearly giving him lessons. They had the truck up on a flatbed, so they could film the scene with camera crew propped up on the side of the truck. At 1 point I guess he hits the brake too hard, and they both lunge forward and back. This causes frustration for Jonathan. Eventually, the pair continue on their practice. A bit later, we see them now outside the Smallville DMV. Now inside a light blue minivan/small truck type vehicle. Jonathan in the drivers seat, with Lois talking to him through the window. Behind Lois is another car driving by, stopping and going a few times. I found it kind of comical that they had to get a stunt driver for this, and his entire job was to drive poorly for the scene. A man then walks up towards the car, it is Jonathans former football coach, played by Danny Wattley. Coach Gaines gets in the passengers seat, Lois leaves, and Jonathan starts up the car. I think at 1 point I heard Danny being given direction to spill more coffee, so I suspect Jonathan causes the vehicle to jerk suddenly as he did while driving with Lois. The first half of my day there the crew could not have been much nicer. They were asking me if I got anything good, 1 even thanksed me for covering the show, and 1 even was nice enough to tell me the current scene probably wouldnt be too good for photos, but after that they would be filming down the street & you might get better photos there. However, on the back half of it. Two different crew members decided all of a sudden LONG AFTER I had already got shots of those on set, they were going to try & stop me from getting photos. First off was a woman (seen in a couple of my photos in a red shirt & camo pants) who decided to use the always ineffective umbrella trick, and even coerced another staff member into doing it with her. I of course still got shots, as I show you below. Just dont bother crews. You are really only going to make me try more. Later was my friend at the end of the set in the yellow shirt, who was trying to pretend to be accidentally standing in my way the whole time. As you can see, he too was very very successful at his job. I found extra odd these two wannabe bodyguards were acting this way, since it was very clear the actors were in a good mood, and even smiled when they noticed I was shooting them. At 1 point Michael gives me a thumbs up in a video clip I have. Because of those crew members unneccesary rudeness, I opted to NOT go home right after they wrapped, and instead decided to follow them to the next location. I sometimes wonder if crews really want me to stick around, because the easiest way to do that is annoy me for no reason. After that scene ended, the production moved a 3 minute drive down the street, back to their downtown Smallville set at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. I went on foot, and it took me about 30 minutes, as the front gates of it are on the far side of the fairgrounds. When I got there, the main street of the set seemed quiet, and inactive, so I suspected they were filming somewhere out of visual range, and I called it a day..... but not before taking a few general view photos of the set up for you all. I am sure by now you know there is more S&L content coming up from the very big public shoot in downtown Vancouver from yesterday at the time this blog went up. I will have that blog up later this week (maybe tomorrow? But more likely Fri or Sat). Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. So check in there for those later on in a few weeks. Some of the videos will be on the Patreon page for video tier members in the next couple weeks. Superman & Lois season 3 will airs in 2023 on The CW in the U.S. You can now get exclusive first looks on our Patreon ahead of these blog posts. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR "SUPERMAN AND LOIS" SEASON 2 EPISODE ??, AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. This morning & afternoon I went down to the Superman And Lois set that was in front of the casino behind B.C. Place. This has become a semi-regular location for Arrowverse shows of late, as The Flash has been in that area several times in the past couple seasons, Batwoman once, and now Superman & Lois. In the early afternoon, the crew set up a scene that is supposed to be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with some criminals robbing an armored truck. In the first few takes, they did the scene with just the criminals, and some cops who come in after to arrest the crooks. At the time, you dont know what happens yet, but the 3 crooks all end up tossed onto the hood of the car they are trying to get away in, and 1 of them has his gun crumpled up. A bit later, we find out who stopped these thieves. Tyler Hoechlin was on set in a kind of "its seen better days" Superman costume. The cape is tattered, and the front looks like it hasnt seen a washing machine in a few weeks. With him, was Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent. This was the first time I ever saw Jordan on set, or even in person. He came out in something a little less Jonathan looking, and a bit more "superhero in training" looking, as he was wearing a black t-shirt with a red House of El crest on it, that looked like it was dripping blood on it. He also had a leather jacket on, and red pants. He also was sporting somewhat of a punk look. The scene has the pair show up, seemingly thwart the crooks somehow, then turn around to applause from a crowd of onlookers & photographers. They give the crowd a wave, and that was the end of the scene. I have already seen in certain parts of the internet, people discussing my photos that were put up on Patreon 1st, if this is in fact our Clark & Jonathan, or could this be the Bizarro version of them. Hard to say, all I can say is the "S" on their chests was proper, and not reversed. While I was there, I dealt with more than an unreasonable amount of harassment from some of the crew (while it is rare, it isnt completely unheard of... and this specific show has acted this way more like this than any other show I have encountered, ever). But I will give kudos to the Key ALM (I'd name the person, but I dont know if they want that.) who came over, listened, communicated with me & another photographer there, and in the end de-escalated what had reached a pretty tense situation. At 1 point immediately before their presence, a Teamster (imagine a less intelligent version of a mall security guard... not to say ALL Teamsters are that way, but a shockingly large percentage are) confronting me so aggressively he had backed up literally within 6 inches of me, a person on crutches, to try & block me from walking along a public pathway. He was less than 2 inches from the front of my camera, and thus, less than 2 inches away from finding out my crutch can be used for other purposes. Thankfully for him, cooler heads prevailed, and the Key ALM really should get a promotion for the way they handled the situation. Fingers crossed that now that Superman & Lois has broken the ice on coming back down for this season, we will see them a bit more before they wrap. Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
