Early this year, I took a gamble and went on a 2 hour bus trip out to Cloverdale, which is at the far end of the region Vancouver is in. I just had a hunch they might be filming Superman & Lois out there after someone had told me they saw the crew out there a couple days earlier. Since it was the week of the season, and series finale filming, I had to try. My hunch paid off, as I caught the very final "public" (even though it was on Private Property, it was still visible from public property) shoot for the series in mid April, at their "downtown Smallville" set they built for the show for episode 4x10. Titled "It Went By So Fast", directed by Gregory Smith. On this day, they were filming what appeared to be a large battle in the streets of downtown Smallville. On set was Tyler Hoechlin in his Superman costume, Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent, Wole Parks as John Henry Irons, and Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang. I also saw who I believe to be Paul Lazenby (Atom Man) on the set, but could not see where he fit into the filming, although I did see him at one point rehearsing with Tyler for something, but never saw it being filmed. We see Superman donning several scratches on his face, and looking like hes in a battle. We also see Lana looking like she has been through something, as her jeans are all dirtied up. UNFORTUNATELY much of the filming that took place was just mere metres out of my line of sight. Mostly all I saw was Superman marching towards something, or someone in 1 scene. Later, Lois, Lana & John walk towards where Superman just left. We then see a scene with the Kent boys in the middle of the road, and the three prior names move towards them. Part of the town seems to be on fire (with the use of some orange plastic & lighting mainly...but there were some real flames), a downed helicopter was also in the middle of the street. One thing I photographed that was not in the shot for the scenes I was there for, was a mural they had put up this seasons at some point of Steel & his daughter on a wall that used to have a slogan "We grow it in Smallville" on it. If you are a fan of The Last Of Us as well, you will be able to see this set again in season 2 of the series, as they filmed a few days at the downtown Smallville set (just obviously edited the building names to fit their show instead) after Superman & Lois wrapped. Several days later, I caught up to the cast at the series wrap party. I managed a few autographs, which are now for sale on my Superman & Lois Autographs gallery HERE. I also managed a few photos with them, as well as some of the tickets for the event after it had wrapped & were no longer useful, which are posted below, along with a few other photos with I got over the shows run. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR "SUPERMAN AND LOIS" SEASON 3 EPISODE 13, AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . PLEASE NOTE - Photo limits are in place for website use/social media posts. THERE IS NEW LIMITS IN PLACE AS OF JANUARY 1, 2021.... SO CHECK THOSE OUT. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. Earlier this month, the cast & crew of Superman & Lois were filming scenes at the 200 Granville Plaza. the episode is being directed by Gregory Smith. The scenes shot on this day included Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent, and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. In a daytime scene, and in a later scene Tyler was Superman. When I first showed up to set that day, I took a look around while they were setting up the first shot, and found a couple set pieces, including one for "Centennial Station" at "Centennial Plaza", on the Centennial Station sign, had a bunch of transit routes on it, which I found funny they all were just labelled "Station #__", instead of a specific location like most city routes would be. But the lines the routes were on, all had specific names. There were some generic ones like "Waterfront, Centennial, Riverfront, Central, Southview, & East Side", but there were 4 other lines on the map, with "Siegel, Shuster, O'Neil, Maggin", which happen to be the surnames of Joe Shuster, one of the co-creators of Superman Jerry Siegel, the other co-creator of Superman Dennis O'Neil, a long time writer for DC Comics Elliot S. Maggin, another long time DC Comics writer. Also seen on set, was 1 sign for a "G.A.N.G. Busters" initiative. I didnt think a lot about it, till someone told me theres a character of the picture on that sign, by the name of.... you guessed it "Gangbuster". At the first location, under neath, & across the street of the night scene location, Clark & Lois are walking along a street in Metropolis, with reporter badges on. One thing I over heard to give context on the scene, is they are there investigating a murder. A bit later, they moved above where they started to a walk way, and Clark & Lois have a short talk, before the pair leave arm in arm. A bit later, they moved across the street to the 200 Granville location for the night scene. This location has been used in the Arrowverse a few times in the past, including Supergirl season 3 premiere, The Flash season 5 finale, as well as The Flash season 4 finale. In this scene, they had Superman there, and he was looking a little different. Despite the fact it didnt rain more than a brief sprinkle the entire night, they had his hair looking very damp. The scene has a bunch of extras standing around in an area called "Centennial Square", Superman then shows up, by landing on the ground. Everyone looks at him, as he assures them everything will be okay. At 1 point, the director told the onlookers to look at him as if it was the 1st time they saw him, which I found weird since he used to live in Metropolis full time in the past. Before he can do much more than tell them everything will be fine, something is in the sky, crashing towards the earth, and he leaps off to take it on....and thats all there really was. After that Tyler wrapped. Weird part was, when they wrapped, there was 30 or so onlookers watching them film. As soon as they called wrap, EVERYONE in unison, with the exception of me and another fan, left, like as if they were under some type of mind control. It was wild. This gave me and that fan the opportunity, with a suddenly much smaller crowd, to get a photo with Tyler in the costume. He took a bunch of photos with crew members first, and said some good byes to many of them. I asked him if he had heard anything on if they have been told a date to return for season 4, and he said not yet, but assumes it will be about the same time of year as season 3 started. Then he left, for the final time that season. After Tyler wrapped, the crew moved down to the street below where they were filming, to do another scene that had no cast in it. This is where I think the most interesting stuff of the evening happened, even though there was nothing to see, because of what was HEARD, and what I saw at 1 point off set. They shot a scene with a bunch of extras walking around, then suddenly stopping to look at the centre of an intersection. The directors comments directing how the crowd should react is the key point for this part of the post. He tells the fans "you see Superman crawl out of the hole, he looks injured"., the next part of the scene, he then tells them "something else is coming out of the hole, its a monster", the last part is he tells the crowd to follow a green laser pointer on a wall up into the air, to represent these two characters going up high into the air. At one point, they filmed 1 singular take of a tripod set up right in the middle of the intersection. I am unsure if it is supposed to represent something, or if its a piece of tech they use for a specific look. But they only shot it once. The rest of the time was spent on these extras, and 1 bit of filming of looking down a road at traffic driving. NOW, why does this part of the evening mean something. Its what I happened to read earlier in the evening. On the storyboard, I saw 1 panel that had 1 specific line & a drawing interpretation "his spikes grow", with a rough drawing of a monster with jagged spikes growing out of him (I almost never show photos I ever get of any information I see that isnt ON set [aka - in front of the camera], but you clearly by now if you are a regular know my track record on things I see at a set). That is all I will say on the matter. IF you do not get the connection of the two parts there, I suppose you can just wait till the dozens of theory videos come out. But I suspect, after the reaction I got telling that story to two people, a lot of people will jump to this theory (once again) upon reading this. Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. Earlier this season, the cast & crew of Superman & Lois were filming scenes at the Vancouver Art Gallery. the episode is being directed by Elizabeth Henstridge. The scenes shot on this day included Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. Also on set was a currently unidentified actress, playing an unknown character. In the scene, the unidentified character is standing up on a ledge, then Lois comes in and talks to her, and she gets off the ledge, and seems to give Lois a hug or something. Then Superman shows up, talks to Lois, and they have a talk, that I was told by crew was "very emotional scene", before the pair hug. Also, before theres any confusion... the pics of him with something in his ear is NOT part of the scenes. Thats him listening to whatever he listens to in between takes before he has to shoot. I had kind of forgot about this set till this past week. So here it is, better late than never, right? Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. Wednesday, the cast & crew of Superman & Lois were filming scenes in the Gastown region of downtown Vancouver. the episode is being directed by Jai Jamison. The scenes shot for this day included Tyler Hoechlin as Superman. Also on set was a currently unidentified actress, playing a character that in the scene Superman was calling "Peia", but on a storyboard, it said "Onomatopoeia". For a large part of the day, the crew tried to cover her from my view, which I found odd, since she is not wearing any type of costume. The scenes shot were in Metropolis, and had the Peia character standing in the middle of a street in front of some Mannheim Tower ads, with a bunch of wind machines making it windy & leaves flying around (and gave some great Supermans cape flapping shots). Superman then comes in, lands and confronts her. He tells Peia that he can try to help her, she tells him he cant, before doing something that makes him fly backwards. Later, they were doing a scene where he is slowly moving towards her as shes crumpled down on the ground, and he reaches his hand out, but I couldnt see the end result of how the scene plays out, as the filming angles were so wide I had to constantly move to stay out of their shot (in fact on 1 take I was in the shot for a large part of the take, but wasnt told it till it was too late). On 1 of the times Tyler came out of the holding area to do a scene, he came out with a camera, and encouraged me to take photos of him taking photos of me. So, of course I did. He was in a really good mood all day. On 4 different occasions throughout the day he stopped to meet fans, which is something hes rarely done (primarily because the show started in the covid era, and since then has been downtown rarely) in his time on the show. It was really great to see him getting more comfortable with meeting fans. Later they didnt another scene after lunch up the street a bit with Metropolis Police cars lights flashing, and Superman doing something, but I couldnt get a good view of it. So I went home. I also saw Alex Garfin at the set earlier in the day, but didnt take any photos of him, because I assumed he would be coming back to work after lunch, but he never did. He was not in wardrobe, he seemingly was just there to grab a free lunch & leave (or they had a 2nd unit filming nearby that no one knew about). Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. YesteTuesdayday, I caught up with the cast & crew of Superman & Lois shooting a scene in downtown Vancouver, not even 24 hours after I travelled 2 hours each way to see them for this set report. They were filming scenes for the 1st episode of the season, directed by The Flash star Tom Cavanagh. The episode title is "Closer". The scenes shot for this day included Tyler Hoechlin in a brand new Superman suit. Also on set was Paul Lazenby, who you may remember from season 1 as Atom Man. The scenes shot were just a continuation of 1 large scene, that saw Atom Man & Superman fighting in the streets of Metropolis. At one point Atom Man goes running at Superman with a cab door, and they fight over the door, before Atom Man hits him with it, and knocks him away, but Superman returns, and Atom Man throws the door on the ground, as Superman runs at him & they apparently go up into the sky. If you have not yet seen it, I also saw a set the day before far outside the city, that was set in Smallville. You can find that set HERE with the new Jonathan on set. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. This morning & afternoon I went down to the Superman And Lois set that was in front of the casino behind B.C. Place. This has become a semi-regular location for Arrowverse shows of late, as The Flash has been in that area several times in the past couple seasons, Batwoman once, and now Superman & Lois. In the early afternoon, the crew set up a scene that is supposed to be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with some criminals robbing an armored truck. In the first few takes, they did the scene with just the criminals, and some cops who come in after to arrest the crooks. At the time, you dont know what happens yet, but the 3 crooks all end up tossed onto the hood of the car they are trying to get away in, and 1 of them has his gun crumpled up. A bit later, we find out who stopped these thieves. Tyler Hoechlin was on set in a kind of "its seen better days" Superman costume. The cape is tattered, and the front looks like it hasnt seen a washing machine in a few weeks. With him, was Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent. This was the first time I ever saw Jordan on set, or even in person. He came out in something a little less Jonathan looking, and a bit more "superhero in training" looking, as he was wearing a black t-shirt with a red House of El crest on it, that looked like it was dripping blood on it. He also had a leather jacket on, and red pants. He also was sporting somewhat of a punk look. The scene has the pair show up, seemingly thwart the crooks somehow, then turn around to applause from a crowd of onlookers & photographers. They give the crowd a wave, and that was the end of the scene. I have already seen in certain parts of the internet, people discussing my photos that were put up on Patreon 1st, if this is in fact our Clark & Jonathan, or could this be the Bizarro version of them. Hard to say, all I can say is the "S" on their chests was proper, and not reversed. While I was there, I dealt with more than an unreasonable amount of harassment from some of the crew (while it is rare, it isnt completely unheard of... and this specific show has acted this way more like this than any other show I have encountered, ever). But I will give kudos to the Key ALM (I'd name the person, but I dont know if they want that.) who came over, listened, communicated with me & another photographer there, and in the end de-escalated what had reached a pretty tense situation. At 1 point immediately before their presence, a Teamster (imagine a less intelligent version of a mall security guard... not to say ALL Teamsters are that way, but a shockingly large percentage are) confronting me so aggressively he had backed up literally within 6 inches of me, a person on crutches, to try & block me from walking along a public pathway. He was less than 2 inches from the front of my camera, and thus, less than 2 inches away from finding out my crutch can be used for other purposes. Thankfully for him, cooler heads prevailed, and the Key ALM really should get a promotion for the way they handled the situation. Fingers crossed that now that Superman & Lois has broken the ice on coming back down for this season, we will see them a bit more before they wrap. Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. This morning & afternoon I went down to the Superman And Lois set that was in a park I was just in last week for Supergirl for a scene. This wasnt even the first time I have filmed Superman in this park, as they shot scenes for season 2 of Supergirl there with Superman on set here. Today they were shooting episode 1x14, the penultimate episode of the first season. The episode is directed by Alexandra "Lexi" La Roche. The scenes had Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, on set for an early scene. Also on set at the time was the Steel suit, but at the time I never saw who might be in it, and I didnt see it for more than 1 take I shot (and then later when I was looking at these photos noticed him just BARELY mixed into the middle of the crowd shot in the first shot). They then did a part of the scene with just Lois & the spectators where Lois takes a cops megaphone, and tells people to get out of there. In 1 take I noticed 2 people jump up like the way Superman does, then they crawled out of the way of the scene, but I dont know if this is supposed to be anyone, but I did take 1 photo there of the pair (although 1 had his back mostly to me). Later, they did a scene with Tyler, Wole Parks as John Henry Irons in the Steel outfit, and Stacey Farber as Leslie Larr. In that scene, Superman and Steel are standing facing Leslie, Steel is carrying a massive hammer that I thought was the one that Lois had in Elseworlds, but when I looked at it here on my computer, I noticed the colour is different. So I dont know if thats a Crisis change, or if this is a different hammer. In the scene Superman & Steel suddenly look off to the side, where it is implied something/someone is there, and Superman flies off. I picked up a couple details from just paying attention to what the crew were saying to background people for the crowd scenes to get them to react how they wanted. Leslie Larr gets electrocuted at some point, unsure if it is before, or after the scene I saw her shooting with Superman & Steel. Morgan Edge is there up in the air for 1 of the scenes. They also reference at one point a piece of dialogue where someone says "Same, he is here to help us". I would assume they are talking about General Lane in that moment, and I am led to believe its supposed to be Lois saying it, even though it was a crew member saying it to the crowd so they knew where in the scene they were. They had a bit more filming to do after that, which I think had to include stunts at some point, since there was supposed to be one from what I was told earlier on, and I saw Tylers stunt double there at one point. But I had been there for a few hours, and frankly, 3 or 4 crew members there were just being classless pricks (every crew has a couple.... on this day, they just happened to all be working together), and I decided I had more than enough. I COULD have got more, but really, I got more than I could have expected for the 5 or 6 hours I was there..... and hey, they are back there tomorrow (or tomorrow from the time I was writing this). On day 2 they continued shooting in the park.
While I was there (I had another set to work that day, so I spent less than an hour there), they did 2 scenes. First with Leslie Larr on top of Steel pummeling him with a series of punches. Later, they did a scene with Steel wielding his hammer, and swinging it around in battle. That was all I saw that day unfortunately, except for 1 moment where I saw Supermans stunt double walking around early on, suggesting at some point he probably had some stunt work to do. Video will come later on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. So check in there for those later on in a few weeks. Some of the videos will be on the Patreon page for video tier members THIS WEEK.
