Back in mid-April, The CW hit Supernatural was filming scenes for their season 7 finale. Twice I stumbled across their sets. First was on the evening/night of April 11th in historic Gastown. Earlier in the day scenes were shot inside an office above Boneta Restaraunt. Unfortunately, I never got to see any of that. Later that evening, they shot up the street from there, the scene was of a woman, who at that time I didnt know to be anyone special... of course NOW, I know her to be the maid that Bobby has possessed. She was walking along with a newspaper folded under her arm with a picture of Dick Roman on it. Another scene later, was shot with her & Bobby both looking in the window of an electronics store where the TV 's all were advertising the message on a "Breaking News" bulletin that Dick Roman had bought Sucrocorp. Later, a scene was done in al elley way, unfortunately I have no idea what went on in there.... I saw Jim Beaver & Larissa Gomes (Louise the maid that Bobby possessed) go down into the alley & at the time I just assumed it was going to be them fighting each other, or something along those lines, since the film notice said a fight scene would happen down there... of course, now knowing that Bobby/Louise are 1 in the same, I wonder who the fight was with now. A few days later, I found the set in South Burnaby in a business park, behind a lot of fences. Unfortunately, I never really saw any of the filming as the set was down in a little nook covered by walls & crew. I did however catch Jensen Ackles & Misha Collins hanging out & chatting with each other for 20-30 mins. At times, there was long lulls as 1 or both were engrossed in their phones, at other times, they seemed to be having quite animated conversations that I cant be sure of the nature... but I have taken my best shot at translating in some of the photos below. I did see Jared Padalecki there, but only breifly, and never got much of a chance to get any pics of him facing me. Here are the photos from the scene & Jensen & Misha chatting. I hope you enjoy.  The Favorite Character of 2011 as voted by you the fans was.. Dean Winchester "Supernatural" (played by Jensen Ackles). The final award of the year makes Mr. Ackles a 3 award winner, and 5 total awards in 2 years winner. With best actor & favorite character awards last year under his belt going into 2011s voting, it wasnt a big shock he would win something again. Winning 3 awards however.. that shows a dominance. With the Best Sci-Fi Acot award & Sexiest Actor Award already wrapped up Jensen snagged 1 final honour by way of his on screen persona, the smart ass, world saving hunter Dean Winchester. Deans win came at the cost of a character we no longer will see in this form. Runner up "Smallville" disguised super-hero Clark Kent makes it 2 years in a row a Smallville character was runner up. 3rd went to "Lost Girl" Dr. Lauren Lewis. Its 4th place for Deans brother Sam Winchester..same place he finished in 2010. 5th place for "Supernatural" angel turned god turned nothing Castiel, he finished 3rd last year. "Sanctuary" lead Dr. Helen Magnus is 6th, the character responsible for the Best drama actor win for Nathan Fillion is 7th "Castle" lead Richard Castle, 8th is "Fringe" phenomenon fighting FBI agent Olivia Dunham, 9th is the Best Drama actress Stana Katic inspired "Castle" detective Kate Beckett. Falling 3 spots from 7th to 10th this year is insanely genius "Fringe" doctor/scientist Walter Bishop, Another Dr. drops 3 spots from 8th to 11th this year, as "The Big Bang Theory" resident know it all Sheldon Cooper takes 11th. 12th is "Lost Girl" lead character Bo. 13th is last years 9th place finalist "How I Met Your Mother" character responsible for Neil Patrick Harris winning Best comedy Actor this year, Barney Stinson. Jensen Ackles. This comes as no shock to someone who reports on Supernatural a lot. I have learned over the past couple years theres 2 things that are evident about SPN fans. 1- their online devotion to the show, and 2- their overwhelming support of Jensen as their favorite cast member. While his castmates also have quite a lot of rabid fans as well, there is a sizable difference in the attention I get for a blog post of just Jared or Misha, as opposed to a post including Jensen. His win as sexiest actor was not too shocking to me. From the get go, I expected him to at worst, be in the top 3. Jensen had a couple of times where a challengers made a run at him & even dipped into 2nd a couple times, but he eventually pulled ahead & the pulled away from runner up Tom Welling. The Supernatural dominance grabbed Jared Padalecki 3rd & Misha Collins 4th. Early on leader Johnny Depp finished 5th, Fringe stud Joshua Jackson nabbed 6th, apparent "sexiest man alive" Ryan Reynolds did not win such honours here getting 7th, neither did another alleged "sexiest man alive" Ryan Gosling who was 8th. 9th was Lost Girl star Kris Holden-Ried, 10th was The Secret Circle star Gale Harold, who despite a boycott by some of his fans to my site still managed to make it to the finals, 11th was Chris Evans, and Smallville co-star Justin Hartley rounded out the finalists. This was the poll with the most lead changes. 29 lead changes, 16 on day 1, 6 on day 2, from 5 different challengers. DO NOT READ THIS POST OR LOOK AT PHOTOS IN THIS POST!!! . . . FINAL WARNING! . . . . . Earlier this week I beared the reasonably cold weather Vancouver has had this week to go down to a rare Supernatural downtown location shoot. The 1st location I stumbled on was not yet in use, but was being prepped for a later shoot. It included putting up fake signs for an Animal Shelter in Idaho. Shortly after I came across the current filming location. There I found Sam (Jared Padalecki) & Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester doing what they do best. Pretending to be someone else. They were inside a police crime area, with a cop car, ambulance, coroner & a red truck scattered about in the area from "Kootenai County" which a friend of mine from idaho instantly told me is the Couer d'Alene area of Northern Idaho. The boys were doing scenes where they chatted with a shorter older man man then followed him over to a different spot. Short, boring, and not overly spoiler inducing. A little later on there was a scene with a man & a dog coming out of the makeshift pet shelter I talked about earlier. I only stayed for a couple takes of this scene as it was fudgin cold out, and no primary actors were there for it. The scene seemed to be the man walking with a limp, and bringing his dog out of the shelter, putting him on the ground, walking to an alley & then looking down the alley at "something". Last set of the evening was across the street from the "animal shelter" where I saw 2 actors doing a scene. The 1/2 dozen or so hardcore fans that waited around all instantly noticed 1, Mr. Sam Winchester... but I was shocked that I seemed to be the only 1 who immediately noticed the other man... Mark Pellegrino. We were told to all stand back so far that we couldnt see much except the very beginning second or so of the scene that Sam & Lucifer did. It entailed Sam walking into an alley reading a piece of paper, and Lucifer of course tagging along. After that scene was filmed. The main actors were wrapped, and they moved inside for scenes without any of the primary actors, and I decided to call it a night, since I was going to be busy for a couple more days this week, and the weather was expected to be even several degrees colder (which it was) over those days & I was still fighting a cold. If you follow me on twitter, I am sure you have seen me rant frequently lately about how shitty my camera is. Again, I feel it let me down. My old camera, although it wouldnt have aced any of the pics, would have probably still done at least 30-50% better, and thus, there would have been a few less grainy/fuzzy/blurry shots than there is in the batch below.                              This past weekend I saw a few different stars from a few different productions that were shooting in Vancouver, leave town for the Christmas hiatus. Of course, high on every Vancouverites celeb watching/spotting/graphing list is the Supernatural duo of Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki. This was the 1st time in quite awhile that I had caught up to them both at the same time. For months, I have caught 1 of them here, another there, but it had been many many months since I got both of them at the same time. They arrived together coming in a door far down from where we expected any arrivals for that flight to come in and if it wasnt for Jared standing out in a crowd....we may have missed them. One of the other hounds noticed them way down at the end coming in and we instantly went inside to get to them. As they checked in, we waited arounf for our chance to ask them after check in for some autographs. 1st up was Mr. Dean Winchester. Jensen was his usual happy self and signed lots for the small group of us that was there, he said he was happy for the break. Never really talked about what his plans for the break were too much, but he wished us a happy holidays, as we did him & let him get on his way. A couple minutes later, Sam Winchester strolled thru. He was a little more talkative. We said we havent seen much of him lately & he said its because hes just been "hanging out & being pregnant".. which of course we then congratulated him on. With Genevieve having recently being up here, we were a little surprised his wife & mom-to-be wasnt with him on the trip. He then told us she had left a few days earlier. She was with family back home & that he was gonna meet up with her very soon. Like Jensen, he wished us a happy holidays, as we did with him & he was on his way. The pair then went on their way & oddly enough, were not seen together departing LAX hours later. Somewhere along the way, Jared vanished, while Jensen was seen coming thru. The man who plays the usually well shaved, sharp tongued monster slayer on the CW hit Supernatural, arrived back in Vancouver after his week long break with the makings of a beard growing. Jensen chatted for a few minutes with those of us who waited around that night about his Thanksgiving weekend, the turkey coma he was working thru and his dogs, 1 of whom was seen with him leaving town, but did not return with him. He described how 1 of his dogs looks like a seal pup when its all fluffed out. The smile on his face as he described the dog tells you he really likes the dog too. Jensen added that his dog is a great traveller "hes better behaved than most people" he added. Jensen was the last of a long day of successes we had from the Thanksgiving weekend cavalcade of entertainers coming back to Vancouver to start woking on projects this week. EDIT- I have added a few pics of Sara Canning who today was announced as a "one night stand" of Jensens character Dean Winchester in episode 13 this season. I was lucky enough to catch the former The Vampire Diaries star about an hour before Jensen when 2 other local hounds noticed her coming thru. She talked with us for awhile. During the conversation, the topic of The Vampire Diaries conventions that Creation is starting to hold came up, which lead to talking about the Supernatural conventions we have here...and thats when she asked us if we watched the show with a hint of curiosity. Shortly after that I asked if she had any upcoming projects, she said yes. All she was willing to tell us at the time was it was a TV show & that "she didnt know if she could talk about it". Only show we know around here that makes such absurd demands of its guest stars is SPN. So we ut 1 1 together and decided it was probably going to be SPN...and sure enough, today, bam, she is confirmed as a guest star on an upcoming episode as Deans 1 night stand. So below is a few pics of the slightly scruffy star on his arrival and his temporary fling...both coming in the same night.                Supernatural star Jensen Ackles filming a scene for Season 7 episode 11 in New Westminster11/16/2011 Last week I took a rare stroll out to New Westminster After an even rarer doctors appointment, I went over to find the SPN crew working at a court house. At that location the crew decided to pull umbrellas on me...even though I didnt even have a camera out yet. Despite that, I still saw Jared & Jensen leaving the set. I HAD planned to leave shortly afterwards, but when they decided to play games I decided I was spending my night hanging around New West as I knew they had another shoot later in an area just 1 block from where I grew up.... gave me a chance to see the old neighbourhood... as I havent really been back there since moving out of NW. In the downtime I sent out a tweet to a certain bodyguard trying to diffuse any further shenanigans, since hes the primary demander of said foolishness. I pointed out how I knew where the stars trailers were, how I could have, if I so chose, shot them from 3 different sides unobstructed (and unseen) and how I have respected that boundary.... but, if the absurd games want to continue, I could be more intrusive (legally) in how I get photos. I never got any response from my observation. Which didnt surprise me too much, still a bit disappointing to think an olive branch would be disregarded with such defiance as to umbrella up an hr later again. Perhaps he never read it? Who knows. Perhaps next time I am at set, I will see the desired results of my suggestion? We've been told no autographs at set, so we respect that. I have respected that rule, I have avoided shooting them at their home away from home. I go to the set to get a few pics. I understand if, as I have been told before (legitimate request) that we're in the actors sightline or "in frame" (often exaggerated...but we accept it still most of the time) being asked to move or dont shoot. But, when your 150 ft back, behind the actor and the camera....theres zero excuse for these actions. The shoot in the evening was down at the edge of a lot. It entailed current sexiest actor, best sci-fi actor & favorite character nominee in the Best Of TV 2011 Awards, Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) getting out of a car hesitantly. Not much to the scene, and I cant even be sure if someone else was in the car with him. I can say for sure Jared wasnt seen at that location. The crew again was being aggressive in trying to stop ME and 3 fans that were there from seeing anything. As the evening went on 1 of the fans too the initiative to walk over to another corner that we were previously shooed from but was now clearly open as the camera wasnt shooting that way. This annoyed the set security guard Clif & his umbrella twirling sidekick. It then donned on everyone, spread out, and they will have to either put 4 people out trying to block us, or talk to us. They chose to send someone over to talk to us. I made the case that we didnt HAVE to co-operate...to an extent. I told him straight out, stop the umbrella BS, we stop spreading out, plain and simple. Lo & behold, the next (and final scene) of the night they stopped the games & allowed us a chance to get a few pics. I got a couple (moderately grainy) shots & a person I know thru being at sets got a couple herself & volunteered them to me to use for no other reason than her own annoyance with how the set was dealing with her & the other 2 fans that were there just because they had cameras....despite being approx 150-200 feet away. Its certanly not my largest set of SPN pics, but I know you fans want SOMETHING...so here they are.        |
