In the Favorite TV Show tournament there was a few mild upsets in the later rounds, but in the end... 2 shows who got overshadowed in the nomination round by heavy multiple voting from a couple users, prevailed in the final. Due to the "top seeds go to the top vote getter of each network" rule I implemented, the 5th & 6th highest nominated shows Fringe & Supernatural, actually came into the tourney as the 7th seed in both their respective draws. The top 6 seeds in every group went to network leaders, and thus, the 7th seeds were far more popular than their ratings might have suggested.
Unlike on the character side of the draw, most of the final 4 here were made up of challengers who were not the top seed. Only Game Of Thrones managed to make the final 4 & be a #1 seed as they competed against a #3 seed (Sanctuary) & the eventual finalists, the previously mentioned two #7 seeds Fringe & Supernatural. Fringe & Supernatural making the finals were not too big of a shock to me, as I get a lot of traffic from fans of those shows to my site. With an incredibly hard road that included fights against finalist Supernatural, 2 #2 seeds "Castle" & "Burn Notice", as well as 2 #1 seeds, including Game Of Thrones & newfound powerhouse of online polls, Lost Girl, the eventual champs from the FOX network, Fringe prevailed against some pretty strong competitors. The little show that could, Sanctuary, bucked almost every prediction I made for it, as fans of the show showed their support for the recently cancelled Syfy program & beat out the seemingly strong Nikita to make it to the final 4. I had several "I hope they do well" shows & the 1 that made it further than any other was "Community" before it eventually fell to the powerfull Game Of Thrones. An early fight with eventual winner Fringe thwarted the chance of "Castle" who went into the tourney ranked #2 in their group. I dont think any tourney had more attempted cheating than this tourney. One obsessive IP proxy user in China actually went thru the trouble of voting 2,466 times in a 24hr span on 1 poll. A nuisance sure, but in the end, had no effect on the final results. I am strongly considering doing a poll like this for all-time TV Characters.... but there will obviously be, some clear changes in how its handled. In the Favorite TV Characther tournament there was not a lot of surprises after we got past the 1st round.
With the defeat of potential final 4 challenger Kate Beckett of Castle in round 1, I pretty early on was able to anticipate who the final 4 probably would be... and I wasnt far off. The 2012 Favorite TV Character Poll winn Dr. Lauren Lewis of "Lost Girl" (played by Zoie Palmer) seemed to have very little competition throughout the tournament. Winning by totals of 1008, 1206, 317, 111 & 134 before her final victory by the closest margain of 55. Not until the final did she even have to compete against anyone in the top 4 seed of their group. With my site having a large pressence of Supernatural, Fringe & Once Upon A Time fans I expected the total 6 characters from those 3 shows to compete long in this tourney.... and sure enough, 3 of the final 4 spots belonged to 2 of those programs, as Olivia Dunham from Fringe & Castiel & Dean Winchester from Supernatural made the final 4 against the other perennial powerhouse that I have learned to expect in these polls, Dr. Lauren Lewis of Lost Girl. While I didnt expect Castiel in the final 4 (I expected a bigger fight on his hands with Emma Swan in Round 3), the other 3 in the final pairings didnt come as any shock, and the inevitable winner, Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" came as even less of a shock. Like with any online voting based tournament.... there is always efforts to cheat. Yeah I dont know who would waste their time trying to circumvent rules for a site that gets on average less than 1,000 unique viewers a day... but, some do. This year I had some help from a friend on minimizing it (I am not naive enough to think there still wasnt SOME cheating...but overall, probably not enough to sway results too critically). The constant babysitting need of these polls in the later rounds has made me re-assess how to do these in the future. As those of you who followed the event from the beginning know, after round 2 I changed from repeat voting being allowed to just 1 vote per person being allowed. While webiste traffic grew from this, vote numbers decreased (as was expected with the removal of people voting 100+ times in some instances). The 1st 3 rounds saw the same 2 characters lead in votes as Dean Winchester "Supernatural" & eventual winner Dr. Lauren Lewis were 1st & 2nd each round. Most amazing stat, Dean lead every round but the 1 he was eventually eliminated in. I am strongly considering doing a poll like this for all-time TV Characters.... but there will obviously be, some clear changes in how its handled. Vote leaders by round Round 1- 1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 1404, 2) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl 1100, 3) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 902 Round 2- 1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 1766, 2) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 1512, 3) Temperence Brennan "Bones" 1067 Round 3- 1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 784, 2) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 558, 3) Tyrion Lannister "Game Of Thrones" 418 Round 4- 1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 404, 2) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 392, 3) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 328 Round 5- 1) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl", 2) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 245, 3) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 226 FINALS (1) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl 290-235 (1) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" PLAYOFF ROUND 5 (1) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 245-226 (1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" (1) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 346-212 (15) Castiel "Supernatural" PLAYOFF ROUND 4 (1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 404-226 (14) Dr. Arizona Robbins "Greys Anatomy" (1) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 392-248 (2) Parker "Leverage" (15) Castiel "Supernatural" 219-205 (9) Stephen Holder "The Killing" (1) Dr. Lauren Lewis 328-217 (6) The Doctor "Doctor Who" PLAYOFF ROUND 3 (1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 784-418 (9) Tyrion Lannister "Game Of Thrones" (2) Parker "Leverage" 126-81 (3) Daryl Dixon "The Walking Dead" (6) The Doctor "Doctor Who" 103-90 (10) Temperence Brennan "Bones" (9) Stephen Holder 76-70 (5) Abed Nadir "Community" (1) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 558-241 (5) John Reece "Person Of Interest (1) Olivia Dunham "Fringe 402-156 (4) Dr. Helen Magnus "Sanctuary" (14) Dr. Arizona Robbins "Grey's Anatomy" 217-151 (2) Alexandra Udinov "Nikita" (15) Castiel "Supernatural" 346-212 (3) Emma Swan "Once Upon A Time" PLAYOFF ROUND 2 (10) Temperence Brennan "Bones" 1067-945 (2) Eric Northman "True Blood" (1) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 1512-306 (8) Dr. Gregory House "House MD" (5) John Reese "Person Of Interest" 94-80 (4) Auggie Anderson "Covert Affairs" (6) The Doctor "Doctor Who" 87-79 (3) Kate Reed "Fairly Legal" (2) Parker "Leverage" 114-86 (7) Emily Thorne "Revenge" (1) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 418-123 (8) Jesse Pinkman "Breaking Bad" (4) Dr. Helen Magnus "Sanctuary" 211-190 (5) Michael Westen "Burn Notice" (3) Daryle Dixon "The Walking Dead" 198-192 (11) Homer Simpson "The Simpsons" (9) Stephen Holder "The Killing" 128-62 (16) Rumplestiltskin "Once Upon A Time" (15) Castiel "Supernatural" 356-264 (7) Steve McGarrett "Hawaii Five-O" (5) Abed Nadir "Community" 79-47 (13) Turanga Leela "Futurama" (3) Emma Swan "Once Upon A Time" 145-46 (8) Oz "Breaking In" (14) Dr. Arizona Robbins "Greys Anatomy" 278-64 (6) Max Black "2 Broke Girls" (5) Tyrion Lannister "Game Of Thrones" 74-70 (4) Dexter Morgan "Dexter" (2) Alexandra Udinov "Nikita" 576-244 (7) Barney Stinson "How I Met Your Mother" (1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 1766-895 (8) Carrie Wells "Unforgettable" PLAYOFF ROUND 1 (2) Alexandra Udinov "Nikita" 314-86 (15) Dalia Royce "Suburgatory" (1) Dean Winchester "Supernatural" 1404-1102 (16) Annie Edison "Community" (2) Parker "Leverage" 106-28 (16) Enoch "Nucky" Thompson "Boardwalk Empire" (1) Olivia Dunham "Fringe" 902-165 (16) Dr. Walter Bishop "Fringe" (15) Castel "Supernatural" 505-436 (2) Emily Prentiss "Criminal Minds" (16) Rumplestiltskin "Once Upon A Time" 196-177 (1) Kate Beckett "Castle" (2) Eric Northman "True Blood" 95-18 (15) Allan harper "2 & 1/2 Men" (1) Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" 1100-92 (16) Kenzi "Lost Girl" (4) Dexter Morgan "Dexter" 12-2 (13) Jackson "Jax" Teller "Sons Of Anarchy" (14) Dr. Arizona Robbins "Greys Anatomy" 20-14 (3) Dr. Sheldon Cooper "The Big Bang Theory" (13) Turanga Leela "Futurama" 10-6 (4) Kate Murphy "Body Of Proof" (3) Emma Swan "Once Upon A Time" 16-15 (14) Elena Gilbert "The Vampire Diaries" (4) Auggie Anderson "Covert Affairs" 9-5 (13) Sue Sylvester "Glee" (3) Kate Reed "Fairly Legal" 9-2 (14) Molly Flynn "Mike And Molly" (4) Dr. Helen Magnus "Sanctuary" 33-7 "13) Horatio Caine "CSI: Miami" (3) Daryl Dixon "The Walking Dead" 28-5 (14) Liz Lemon "30 Rock" (5) John Reese "Person Of Interest" 24-12 (12) Mayor Adam West "Family Guy" (6) The Doctor "Doctor Who" 15-8 (11) Eric Cartman "South Park" (5) Abed Nadir "Community" 10-9 (12) Carrie Mathison "Homeland" (6) Oz "Breaking In" 27-5 (11) Don Draper "Mad Men" (5) Michael Westen "Burn Notice' 20-4 (12) Harriet Korn "Harrys Law" (11) Homer Simpson "The Simpsons" 12-2 (6) Gabrielle Solis "Desperate Housewives" (5) Tyrion Lannister "Game Of Thrones" 57-21 (12) Abby Sciuto "NCIS" (6) Max Black "2 Broke Girls" 7-5 (11) Leslie Knope "Parks And Recreation" (7) Emily Thorne - Schrute "The Office" Fringe stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Nobile & Jasika Nicole on set filming episode 4184/13/2012 On February 14, 2012 I shot a set for Fringe. It was episode 18. At the time, I was sure I would see several more Fringe sets to shoot...and while I did come across 3 more sets after this, I never had an opportunity (or desire) to shoot them. I naively believed I had more chances coming...those chances never arose.
So this set of photos, could possibly be the LAST SET of photos I might have from Fringe EVER. Now personally, I want the show to come back obviously. It is my favorite Vancouver shot series. Ontop of that, the crew during their 3 years here, has been mostly all class with lookie-loos, fans & professionals alike viewing their work. Do I expect it to be back? YES. This isnt a "Yes, because I want it to" this is a "yes, because FOX & WB will reach an understanding that makes it possible" feeling. It will only be a 13 episode season. I am not naive enough to think they are rolling out a full season order. I also expect FOX to be VERY up front with the shows creators, crew, cast & fans that this will be it, there will be no season 6. But they will give them a 1/2 season to give the show a real send off, a real definitive ending that will resolve as many questions as they can. FOX is getting a lot of flack from fans that they are "screwing over" Fringe repeatedly. I can see the reasoning for this logic, but in reality, I think the people in charge at FOX have actually tried to keep it alive as long as it can. Truth is Fringe is a thinking mans shows. Its a show you have to pay attention to & has many moving parts. Unfortunately, society doesnt want that from television usually. It is more happy with brainless reality shows. Lets face it, even those of you who watch shows like American Idol or Dancing With the stars will admit, its braindead tv. There is nothing to it, its fluff entertainment. Sadly, this is what sells. I think its been to FOX's credit they have given Fringe 4 (probably 5) seasons despite lowering ratings. Someone at FOX obviously understands the quality vs quantity dilemma & is willing to back it, despite it being an obvious cash strain. Getting back on track here... this is the last set of "new" photos I might have if worse case scenario happens & FOX pulls the plug. I posted a few other photos from this set in this blog post http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/1/post/2012/04/fringe-shooting-a-few-scenes-with-walter-peter-olivia-astringenterr-i-mean-astrid.html of multiple cast photos. This blog is for individual shots..... so enjoy. Another Fringe set featuring in order.... Jasika Nicole - "Astrid Farnsworth" Anna Torv - "Olivia Dunham" John Noble - "Walter Bishop" Joshua Jackson "Peter Bishop" and a couple bonus shots of the Waltermobile. IF YOU POST THESE PHOTOS ELSEWHERE, DO NOT REMOVE THE TAGS OR I WILL HAVE THEM REMOVED! ALSO, DO NOT POST WITHOUT LINKING TO THIS BLOG. If you want the photos for your site untagged, I do sell those rights, just as I do with autographs. Prices are listed in the tab on the left. The last Fringe set I stumbled across in season 4 (and dare I say... if FOX does the unspeakable..the last set I'll ever see) was back in February & judging by the time compared to the last shoot I saw (only a few days prior) this should be for episode 418, which airs TONIGHT!
This was a major moment for myself. I had photographed Olivia, Lincoln, Peter, Walter, Broyles, Nina & even a couple of their alt-world versions... but I had never photographed Astro... sorry, I mean Asterisk, till this day. For the 1st time in my experiences, Jasika Nicole was on set shooting. I had met Jasika a couple times in the past, once on set where she was in fact not working but just passing by, and a couple times at the airport. But this was the 1st time i had seen her working on Fringe. Also kind of fitting (if this IS my last Fringe set) that they had the whole main gang together for it. Walter, Peter, Olivia & Asirin, all together for once. There wasnt a lot to the scene I can really tell you other than Olivia & Peter come walking from 1 direction, while Walter & Asteroid come from his car & meet them in the middle. They then converse a bit, and head inside a building. Below are some of the photos I took that day where 2 or more cast were in 1 shot.. A few Peter & Olivia shots. Walter & Ostrich shots. Peter, Walter & Ashram shots. As well as the whole group in 1 frame, Peter, Walter, Olivia & Claire. I will post more photos from this days shoot later. Those will be solo shots of Olivia, Walter, Peter & ASTRID. The day after the dramatic scene where Alt-Lincoln is killed (and I didnt even know it at the time) in episode 417 of Fringe that I posted about earlier this week (http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/1/post/2012/04/fringe-filming-episode-417-everything-in-its-place-pics-of-fauxlivia-lincoln-guest-cast.html ), I found the Fringe shoot again. This time a 2 minute walk from my house. They were filming scenes that were shown earlier in the episode, before Alt-Lincoln was fatally shot by a sniper.
The scenes involved Fauxlivia & both Lincolns outside a church (played by St. James Anglican Church) as they were going inside to investigate the Fringe event. It was a short scene, but it was important for moving along the storyline, as it showed our world Lincolns growing fascination & interest for Fauxlivia. Another thing. Many times I take pics that dont get posted. A LOT of those is the background design & art work done stuff. So today, here is a little shout out to the art team & set designers who do a terrific job on the show. I start off with a couple photos from their handiwork of the fake walls, quarantine poster & the quarantine barriers (which actually weigh very little & arent made out of cement... but look like real barriers even up close). BELOW ARE SPOILER PICS FOR THIS WEEKS EPISODE!!! IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY POSSIBLE SPOILERS/.. DO NOT CONTINUE READING OR VIEWING THE PHOTOS!!!
. . . . LAST CHANCE . . Back in February I ran across the Fringe set 3 times in about 5 days. The 1st unit was this scene shot across the street from Victory Square (which Fringe has used before) for a scene that consisted of a shoot out between Fringe Division in the Alt-world & a sniper(s) on a rooftop. The coolest part of this scene was when FauxLivia (Anna Torv) went running by Lincoln to grab a massive machine gun to use in defending themselves from themselves from the attack. While I did manage lots of photos of her with the gun, many of them were so poor because of the lighting set ups. Even in mid-day, a lot of the shots I took were pretty grainy because of the angles their production had equipment at. below is some of the better ones I managed. There will be more photos from this set coming up in my next blog post This episode of Fringe airs Friday, April 6th,2012 @ 9 PM on FOX. REMINDER - Do not post photos on your site/blog/tumblr page etc without properly linking the article and DO NOT remove the tags. Seemed to be a little rash of Fringe fans/sites doing this recently. If you want them untagged, they are for sale... as are autographs in the gallery on the left side. Fringe episode 415 A Short Story About Love - a practice take of Josh Jackson and Anna Torv3/19/2012 This post contains SPOILERS for episode 4-15 "A Short Story About Love" DO NOT continue if you dont want to see any spoilers for this episode.... FINAL WARNING . . . . . You have seen the pics of "the kiss"... but they obviously had to do several takes to work up to that.... here is 1 of them. this was not the full scene, as the crew eventually asked us to stop taping it when they got closer to the full scene. This was merely 1 of the rehearsal takes as they worked on their timing to do do the scene in 1 effortless motion. In this take Olivia walks across a street & Peter comes running at her from out of the shadows.... he then proceeds to pick her up & spin her around.... in later takes, they would also add in the kiss scene to this rehearsal before eventually doing the whole scene. This scene was filmed on the coldest day of the year, with temperatures reaching -17C... and you thought being an actor was all fun & games. |
