I HATE American Idol....just thought I needed to say it publicly.

The American Idol caravan rolled thru Vancouver recently...and I foolishly wasted my time going for them.

Now to be fair, SOME of the cast were pleasant. I have no qualms with Danny Gokey, Scott MacIntyre & Michael Sarker. I even think the winner, Kris Allen, is probably an alright guy in the right situation. But that is where my praise ends.

I have been an AVID hater of American Idol since it erupted onto the scene several years ago. I really find it annoying how shows like that & all the other reality crapfests can exist while good entertaining programs like Dead Like Me, Robson Arms & others are cancelled. I think they are the lowest form of entertainment and an astounded daily how many people foolishly watch this crap.

So I guess me writing a scathing blog about them isnt a shock really. But it actually is. See, when I go for an entertainer I go in with the idea of giving them a chance to impress me, to sell me on their product. Proof that I follow thru on such things is in the fact I rented Twilight..n movie I swore up & down I would never see....but eventually rented when the cast was in a word, great. Even though Robert Pattinson is a bigger star than Adam Lambert, and has heard it all about "dont sign for THOSE guys" he still does it. Kristen Stewart, the shows occasionally gruff leading lady who clearly doesnt LIKE the part of being a celebrity that includes autograph hounds & paps, just bites her tongue & does it, even though she probably doesnt like it. Why?? because they know that you can win a new fan as easily as lose an old fan. Its something Mr. Lambert hasnt learned yet.

The fact that 3 or 4 members of AIs travelling fiasco were truly nice is irrelevant, because the ones that were not outweigh the nice ones. When the cast came back to the hotel NOT EVEN ONE of them stopped to sign for the 5 professionals & 7 fans waiting, including a kid of elementary school age & a tweenish aged girl...and they werent even all there for Adam. One of them was there for some female singer who completely blew them off.

This is where I find disgust with the cast. Adam Lambert, the shows wildly popular star had 2 options here, 1- sign for a few people in a calm & controlled setting, taking up maybe a minute of his life, or 2- Listen to some $9 an hr lackey whore who apparently tells him what to think & undoubtedly probably picks out his clothes & make up as well I assume. He shrugged his shoulders & said "I cant". WHAT?? You......cant? Cant? Like physically incapable of the minimal human skill of scrawling something on an item with a pen type item? Seriously? Funny Adam, I watched you sign a few dozen autographs at GM Place just 20 mins earlier. You actually forgot how to do that in 20 mins? I suggest going to see a doctor QUICK! Because clearly you are suffering from serious illness to have forgotten a basic skill that quickly.

Now obviously Adam CAN do it. What he was saying in a poorly worded way was "The people who get paid $9 hr to be my shadow & make sure I dont do anything un-PC & sully the more carefully watched image than Disney, American Idol, have told me not to sign autographs outside of PR based events like the post show meet & greet". For this, I have a problem with THE SHOW & ITS STAFF.

Adam did sign quite a few autographs a little earlier...but even that, the slimeball weasel ratbags who put it on managed to fuck up considerably. They had a long railed off section for fans to stand around. I was there first, front & center. There was NO WAY for them to get by me without signing for me. I was the very first person (in theory) they would see as they came up. Adam was the first one up. What they did was have him sign for a couple VIPs on a different side of the rail set up. Once done with them, the $9 hr peon bitch looked at the crowd, saw 2 adult males at the front & said "we're going to start at the other end Adam" & with Adam already having an item & pen in hand to sign, he was whisked away & had to hand the item back unsigned. At the beginning Adam signed a lot. Every person in the front row & likely many others in row 2 & 3 got him. As he got about 1/2 thru though it slowed down to MOST people in the front row getting him. When he got to the last quarter of the crowd he was skipping 2-3 people at a time & scrawling illegible circles instead of his generally recognizable autograph that moderately looks like his name. Sure enough, as he got to the end of the line, and passed the first few people he saw on the way up, the same ones he promised at the beginning with "I'll be back", he skipped the last 3 or 4 of us & was rushed away down the ramp with his bitch peon whispering in his ear to not sign anymore. Classless action by the shows staff....just as classless by Mr. Lambert. Its HIS career on the line, not hers. HE is the one who should decide what & who to sign for. HE is the one who has to please fans & literally 100s went away unimpressed with him being rushed thru.....especially since he was the first one out. The rest of the cast were still out there, he was going to do nothing but sit on a bus for 10-15 minutes while the rest did their signing. This was a classless move. You dont leave that many fans emptyhanded if you have the time. ...especially ones you vocally assured you were going to get on your way back.

Unbeknownst to Mr. Lambert (or some of the other AI peons...aka, other contestants.. like the small black girl who has some nickname that sounds like a rapper that I am too lazy to look up) & the $9 hr peons, their chance to win me over now rested solely on their interaction at the hotel. They failed HORRIBLY. Adam undoubtedly cost himself CD sales thru this little diva action. I have bought more than a few CDs from people in the past for no other reason than they were nice. The show cost itself possible sales & viewership from me, and any who dare read my ramblings & deem it logical to boycott them as well.

The show sends these wannabes out on tour in hopes of promoting their product. Well, they unpromoted it with the actions that night. I strongly suggest the people in charge or American Idol find the staff that were in charge of telling the stars not to sign & fire them. because its YOUR bottom line that gets hurt by it. Sure the show will still make $$, but it will make a bit less $$ now.

To top off my misery, and probably the reason I am more angry than usual, I received some type of stomach injury from being pressed against the security rails they had set up when the 5+ rows of people all pushed forward to try & get Adam as he came by at our end. I dont know if its a bruise or a pulled muscle, or something much more serious yet. What I do know is its caused me considerable discomfort & some pain since & it was all for nothing. I left that night with 2 Kris Allen autographs & nothing more. Considering where I was situated I should have gotten severla autographs from several of the cast. But the blonde chick walked by without stopping, the red headed chick did the same & so did the east indian guy. Only Kris actually stopped & signed for the very first people he saw. I am sure some signed coming back thru, but I was out of there by then.

The saddest part is, I have heard from multiple people that Adam is a "nice guy" including a hound here who got him to sign 3 items inside the hotel after the show. Perhaps he is. Unfortunately, hes ruining that image quickly by taking the advice from people who dont have HIS best interest at heart. He lost at the very least, the chance to gain fans in Vancouver, at worst he lost fans. I dont know what the handful of fans thought of him, but I know the professionals found his actions (and that of the crew as well) to be bad & prickish....and that includes 2 of them that managed to get him in the wild scrum at the arena in the 100s of people out there.

Mr. Lambert & more specifically the crew & overlords of American Idol need to learn a VERY valuable rule.... If you are in the entertainment business, treat EVERYONE good, because all it takes is 1 negative review for people to read & your product, regardless how fascinating it might seem, can be brought down. I wont do it myself obviously, this blog doesnt get THAT MANY hits...but it could happene eventally if this show isnt careful about marketing & giving the entertainers AND STAFF lessons on Public Relations.

Perhaps someday down the road an AI star will woo me & make me ease on my stance some. Maybe Paula Abdul (who btw I met many years ago & was super nice) will come to my door & apologize for their products classlessness in person. I dunno. What I do know is, as it stands right now, my gut instincts about this show were right....its crap & so are they. Now my actual gut has another instinct, OWWWWWWWWW.

I hate AI too, but I got interested after seeing Adam. I am a fan and will more than likely remain a fan as long as he keeps singing. I've met a couple celebrities and found out they are simply human. Fans are fickle anyway and you can't please them all. Just love (or hate) his music and let it go.

I feel your frustration but re-read your piece. Sadly, AI owns these performers as they are on contract. Like puppets they need to do what they are told. PeRIOD. Look at the pace and schedule they need to keep. Interviews, performances, flying in and out to record, meet and greets fan signings, sleeping and eating are optional.

Adam is a nice guy. Adam is an amazing talent. But lets face it, everyone is attending these concerts to see Adam. He is in high demand. More demand than time permits.

Cut him some slack and realize the position he is in. When he goes on a solo tour go see him then. But it might never improved because Adam is signed by 19 and owned by them.

Hopefully I have more luck at my show and do get an autograph and a few seconds with Adam. But I am not counting on it. I am counting on a wonderful cd and great performances from Adam.

I think you are being too judgemental about Adam. I don’t really understand the temperament of some people this season. There were many, many instances last season when some of the Idols didn’t come out to sign or take pics; after a bad incident in Columbus, Cook never came out after the shows again. I hope people understand that Adam, Kris and Allison are working on their albums along with doing this tour and interviews for the media. And Adam is more popular than other idols and often swarmed by people, that's why he has "handlers". I worry about his health and I’d rather he skip a bus signing than end up too ill to perform at a concert. Adam might not have felt well, but he performed as scheduled and that’s what fans who paid for tickets were entitled to. Signing is an extra that may or may not happen depending on circumstances. This holds true for all the Idols.

I know you are disappointed and it's human nature to lash out, but try to put yourself in Adam's shoes for a second. It is impossible for him to get to every single fan in the line, and even more impossible for him to have a personal conversation with every one of them. Especially when his handlers are telling him not to and moving him along. He's doing his best, but there is only so much he can do, you know? We are talking about a guy who went from relative obscurity a year ago, to being the most popular Idol contestant (arguably) in the show's history. He is human and quite possibly a little overwhelmed by everything. He's knew to stardom and is still learning the ropes. He also has a lot more on his plate than everyone else on the tour. Cut the poor guy some slack.

I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience before and after the concert. I didn't hear you say how you enjoyed the concert, the music. All those terrible people have signed contracts that say they will sing for you and entertain you at a concert. No where did it say they had to come out at all and sign autographs. This is something they do for promotion yes ,but they are not required to do it. I am sure the number of fans was overwhelming and since Adam Lambert has the largest number it must be really hard to manage. Don't judge too harshly, He works hard to give the best show he can. So try not to be too harsh when the powers that be take control. He did do what he was supposed to do. Put on a wonderful show that everyone loved. He tore up the show and burned the house down.LOL (In a good way). Adam Lambert is the farthest thing from a Diva, and completely nice and humble guy.

I have thought people in Vancouver are nice and polite people.I cannot express how disappointed I am reading all this from Calgary.

Sounds like we're overreacting a tad here. Man, I don't think you would have been happy if every single Idol would have stopped, signed everything you had for them to sign, talked to you, taken a picture with you, and given you their phone number. Talk about negative - dang, chill out. What did you really expect?? Adam's my favorite and I've never seen him be anything but nice to his fans. He does treat them all GOOD. But then if I had to deal with you - I'd probably run in the other direction - that's for damn sure. These guys are working their asses off to entertain the people that love them - give them a break!!

You act like the sole reason for the Idol's being there was to sign autographs. Actually their purpose in being there was to sing and they delivered on it. That's what your ticket gets you. Anything else is a perk, not an obligation.

The tour includes over 50 shows and the chances that every Idol is going to be able to get an autograph to every single person who wants one are zero. It's not going to happen.

You left with two autographs from Kris Allen and that's it? That's two more than most people have. Many can't afford to travel to the show and see it so consider yourself lucky.

Wow what a tirade. My philosophy is that you should find joy in what you do get out of life rather then regretting what you don't get. To be this angry and to take it out on Adam is pathetic. He has a grueling schedule, more so then the rest. He is also under contract and has handlers. There is also safety concerns that others do not have. There are crazy people out there that hate Adam because he is gay. For his own safety and interest if I handled his PR I would limit access. I know from his internet site that he has sent many fans autographed pictures.I am sure you can get one that way. If you got to hear him sing live you are luckier then most of us. Lighten up.

I guess it is a disappointment to just get two Kris autographs. Who the hell wants them! Adam on the other hand has the whole world wanting a piece of him. It must be overwhelming. I am sure that he has more press and media duties then the rest. How can he possibly please everyone? To categorize him as not being a nice man is just plain mean of you. All you have to do is look at his old Upright Cabaret videos and you can see what a sweet man he is. This was a selfish rant on your part!

Most of the comments seemed to miss your point that Adam Lambert should reassert himself and take control of this signing situation from his handlers. Your point was well made that it's Lambert's career and the handlers are just "little" people acting self important when given some authority. Lambert is very talented and deserves his moment in the sun; but it would be a shame if he lets the handlers ruin his reputation with his fans before his career really gets off the ground.

Yes, from what the writer said none of the idols stopped to sign at the hotel and that was stupid of them. Most of them have no record deal and yet they're already acting uppity. But the writer's main beef was Lambert's meekness in obeying his handlers. None of these idols are "real" stars yet, their careers depend on getting more fans to help lift them beyond this AI pageantry. At this early stage in Lambert's career, he should be more mindful of how he is perceived by the fans and overrule the handlers when/where it's appropriate. He should be the boss and not the handlers. For Lambert, it's his career and his life's dream; but for the handlers its just a job, they can always latch on to someone new for another job if Adam's career goes down in flame.

We don't really know the reason why none of them could stop to sign when they arrived at the hotel. I think they were all rushed coz people were waiting for them at the after party. It's too time-consuming to sign and take pics with EVERYONE. And Adam has handlers cos he comes out after or before a show, everyone goes crazy, screaming at the tops of their lungs and pushing and shoving. This is the first year ANYONE has had handlers, he had two the other night. I'm sure this is due to the problem David Cook had last year with so-called fans aka psychos that forced 19 to stop him from being able to go out after the show to sign autographs.
Anyway, let's remember that this stardom is all new to Adam and the other idols, so I think we should ALL cut them some slack and stop being so judgmental for every little thing they say and/or do.

Wait a minute...you sell people's autographs without their consent. So why should we feel badly for you or even care? I suppose this is probably legal, but I don't know that we should really take anything you say seriously because all you're really concerned about is capitalizing one someone's fame. The more famous a person (Adam of all the Idols, for example, whether you like AI or not, which I don't especially even like myself), the more money you make. So Adam was told by his "handler" to keep walking, or to rush through his signings, or start at a different place in the line. The Idols are in town for one night, vs the Twilight cast, for example, who are in town filming for months, weeks, whatever. Probably walking around without handlers, probably not walking down a line of dozens of fans on their way to or from another city the same night. It's just not a fair comparison. If you'd said that Adam said something rude to you, or you overheard him say something rude to a fan, then maybe I would take this more seriously. But you're angry because in ONE night he walked by YOU and a few other people in a crowd of a hundred? Give me a break! And PS I'm posting this anonymously because I get the feeling your "blog" and Twitter account are just more ways to capilatize on those fans who didn't happen to get the autograph they wanted when AI was in their town for ONE NIGHT. Seriously, use your "power" for good, not evil.

First, I want to thank ALL of you, positive & negative for taking the time to read my viewpoint.
Even if you didnt agree with it, atleast you read it & I have read all your replies.

Some of you seem to be under the impression I am a jilted fan. This should be cleared up in my opening when I said I detest the show. BUT, like other things I have hated in the past I went in willing to give them a chance to impress me. I DID NOT attend the concert. The fact I dont like AI wasnt all, I just dont go to concerts in general. maybe 1-2 times a year I go to a show. I am just not a fan of that atmosphere. So his live performance, whether good or not has no impact on my opinion of him.

Some of you want to make excuses for his travel schedule. Well boo-hoo. If real music stars like U2, Elton John or Paul McCartney can take the time to meet fans & sign, so can a relative unknown like Mr. Lambert. Sure, his schedule is "demanding", but so are most entertainers and on average, most of them find the time to do these simple things.

LOL @ "bible thumper". I am far from that. This isnt some vendetta against him because he is gay. One of my best friends is gay (who was with me that night ironically...and she was even put off by his attitude). I also didnt like the attitude of the east indian guy. Am I suddenly racist towards east indians as well? The fact is Mr. lamberts actions are why the dislike, NOT his sexuality.

Some of you seem to understand my viewpoint. You understand the logic & rationality of what I say & why it was a bad decision for him. You seem to understand that it is NOT JUST ADAM I am pointing the finger at. The rest, either want to make up a variety of excuses to exhonorate Adam of his poor decision or just felt the need to snipe at me because you felt angered by me callling him out on a poor public display.

Those that get it...thanks. I am glad to see SOME level of logic & rationality still exists.

To those that didnt, or want to make excuses for him. Thats fine, defend your hero. Its what a true fan does. Stands behind someone regardless of their faults. But dont expect any of the excuses you came up with to sway me in MY viewpoint that he is a diva prick who doesnt think about the fans. HE made my mind up for me, and you arent going to change it.

In closing. I put MORE of the fault of this on the staff/crew than any entertainer. But Mr. Lambert does get a portion of the blame, because unless he was lobotomized, he should still be capable of making his own decisions.

What? It’s not as if Adam never signs autographs or never interacts with fans. You even admitted that he did sign quite a few autographs after the show. I want to see the proof that U2, Elton John or Paul McCartney meet and sign every single fan. Do you follow them all the time?

I don't think you care about his fans, you are being bitter cos you couldn't get his autograph.

I agree that it's a bummer that you weren't able to get an Adam Lambert autograph. I mean, that's how you make your living so that sucks that you lost out on some cash. But if any of the Idols skipped someone, honestly I'd rather it was you than someone who was truly a fan of theirs. And for those fans that some of the Idols DID skip, that sucks too but at least they got to see them in person, that's half the fun right there. And that's a lot more than many many people get.

I do have to correct you on the lackey thing, though. While I don't know who was handling Adam during the hotel situation you witnessed, out at the barricades he's usually shadowed by a guy that looks like kinda like Willie Nelson. That's no $9 an hour lackey, that's Ray the Tour Director for the whole shebang. Idol OWNS Adam's ass, and they keep a seriously tight hold of all situations he's in.

I've met Adam on three different occasions and he was very attentive and polite to everyone.. Perhaps the handlers pushed him away from you because you are obviously not a fan and these people don't like their time being exploited.

Hah, I guess I'm one of those "true fans" you scoffed at defending "my hero" but I guess I think you just don't have all the facts.

After the show but before the Idols go out to the barricades for autographs, they usually must attend the indoor After Party session for contest winners, etc. who have passes. During these, pass holders line up for a one on one with the Idols, and Adam consistently has the longest line of people waiting. So it often takes him a long time to get done with that and get out to the barricades.

The American Idol Tour is only insured on the venue properties until midnight. So the barricade signing has a set-in-stone time limit. Basically, they're doing their best to balance getting as many people as possible while working the line and hopefully not having to stop and leave before they make to the end (which has happened). With the kind of fan mayhem that occurs at the barricades, it's a bit of a lose lose situation for the Idols, but they make the best of it and MOST fans (except for the batshit crazy ones) understand that an autograph and momentary eye contact is a nice extra but not something they are entitled.

All these kids signed away their soul to Idol, and are dependent on 19M for their career right now. None of them, not even Adam, has the luxury to flout the instructions from their management handlers.

1) I can't trust the opinion of someone who didn't even go to the concert TO WATCH IT FOR THE IDOLS' SINGING.

LMAO, Dude, you sound like an idiot. You make is sound like buying someone's music is based on whose autograph you get. So, buy the album of the one you got and if any of the others put out good music, don't buy it cause you didn't get their autograph. LMAO, I'm glad my Ipod doesn't only contain music of people I have their autographs. LMAO one more time just because this was so f**King funny to read while I drank my coffee. Wow. Did that little tantrum make you feel better? You acted like a little girl who didn't get any candy at her birthday party. We all know what this really comes down to. You didn't get Adam's autograph to sell, so you are lashing out. Well, boo-hoo. You demonstrated perfectly why bloggers like you will never be real journalists. OH JOY- mountains of fan mail.
PS- I love how many people corrected my spelling errors, yet your partners in slime made even more.

Jorgen- LOL @ POS. A prick, sure. POS, thats the pot calling the kettle black. As for his level of fame. I have met far more important celebs than he will be at his prime. MOST who were far nicer.

Grey- because thats what I do. Report on what happens. Sort of defeats the purpose if I kept it to myself.

Jacki- yes, yes it does.

Misha- money talks. thats why. Theres been lots of entertainers I hated before I met them....AI had the same chance as all others to change my mind. They failed as a whole.

FU- That can be fixed with a few reading classes & an education above grade 1. hang in there, you'll get to grade 2 someday.

Mel- I have no issue with him specifically skipping ME...if I was the only one & he didnt make a verbal promise to get us on the way back. Take both of those out of the equation & it would have been fine. But he stiffed HUNDREDS of people out there & only signed for maybe 1/10 of them, then ignored the ones he verbally promised on the way by. THAT is the problem.
As for lackey guy- Hes in the wrong line of work if thats how he acts towards his meal tickets.
As for the vid- congrats. 30 seconds of him signing. Wow, hes validated himself now lol. Still only 1/10 of the people got him. Just a higher percentage were at the "start" (AKA- what people that was the end)

Hannah- correct, but it is GOOD for sales. They are in a sales based business. Thus why being nice is a positive in their business.
I went because, 1- money, 2- I always give people a chance. I hated the concept of Twilight before they came to town. Now, I am fine with it...because the cast actually made an effort to be liked.

Mel- which is why the very last line of the post reply I did before, and a paragraph in the blog pointed much fo the blame at the staff as well. I am not naive. I know who pulls the strings.
But Adam clearly doesnt care about his career....because if he did, he would put his foot down. What are they going to do? Fire him? hes the star attraction. HE holds the strings, he just doesnt know it.

6 videos. NOT EVEN ONE SECOND shown of him in the 2nd 1/2. How convenient. Thats all from the 1st 1/2 area as you can tell by the stairs & shrubs in the background. I do recall saying he did do a lot for the first 1/2, but stiffed the 2nd 1/2...which were ironically the people who waited the longest.
