UPDATE: August 2, 2019 - News of the mystery girl has been added. I once in a while have the luxury of stepping outside of my place and find a film set right there. On this day, the crew and cast of Supergirl were working in the building that is across the street from my place. All of the filming on the first day, and most of the 2nd day was inside the Orpheum Theatre. The only exterior was a walking scene with background actors at the end of the 2nd day of filming there. The building is well known in Vancouver, and has been used by most every show out there at some point. Early on the 1st day I saw some of the stunts team standing around outside waiting to film. At different points there I saw the doubles for Melissa, Nicole, Chyler, Jesse and a new girl that I do not yet know (* August 2 - we now know that it is Jennifer Cheon Garcia as "Midnight") . During the lull that came with the morning shooting, I went for a walk and found the circus for the set. There was A LOT of cast trailers there, and were prepped for work that day. As you can see from the photos below, I saw the trailers for several of the cast, but could not see them all because of the angles they were parked at. I found it a bit odd that Nia Nal has a tape marker on her trailer, but Kelly Olsen already has a full printed plate for her door. Back at the set, I managed to run into David Harewood and Jesse Rath as they left for their lunch break in the early afternoon and got some autographs from them on something cool I am trying to work on. Later in the afternoon, I saw Melissa Benoist going to set in her Supergirl wardrobe, but she was hiding it under some type of sweater or blanket. In the evening, we saw Katie McGrath and Nicole Maines head out to go grab burgers at Five Guys still in full Lena Luthor and Dreamer wardrobe. Nicole posted on her instagram about the experience of doing it HERE. Little was really known about what was going on inside the theatre. All anyone can really confirm is what cast were there. Besides the ones mentioned in this article, Chyler Leigh and Azie Tesfai were the only other cast known to be there that I did not get photos of, or interact with at some point. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR SUPERGIRL SEASON 4 EPISODE 22 "THE QUEST FOR PEACE" AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE. UPDATE MAY 5 (scene details added at bottom to a major spoiler) I ran in to Supergirl shooting scenes for episode 22 of this season, which is their finale. The episode is being directed by Jesse Warn. The cast & crew shot in 2 different locations at quite different parts of the downtown area. First was a spot they had used multiple times in the past, a park in Coal Harbour, which this time was changed to look like an area for a press conference. Now I fully admit, I do not watch the show, so my knowledge of why a character would be doing something is not there. But this scene had Graham Verchere as George Lockwood giving a press conference where he was telling a gathering of reporters that included Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, to call for "unity". After that scene wrapped, Graham shot a scene about 100 feet from there with a newer actor (did not even have an IMDB when I looked him up) Steel Bey who is playing the role of "Charlie". The pair stopped to look at their phones as a new alert comes in. After that scene, it was time for a trek all the way across the downtown core to the far edge of Gastown, start of the Downtown Eastside. The first scene over there was one in front of the "National City Transit Authority" where we find Andrea Brooks as Eve Teschmacher sitting on a bench when Patti Allan as "Old Lady" comes over and talks to her briefly before getting up & moving on. Again, not sure why, but Eve was hidden in a hoodie, and was sporting brunette hair (I'm not confused right? She is a blonde on the show. Right??). Near the end of this shoot, a little bonus surprise arrived. Katie McGrath, better known as Lena Luthor, arrived at the set. But not to work. She was walking her dog Oisin, she also was there to give crew and cast that she might not see for the rest of this season some gifts. She spent most of her time talking with Andrea, and a couple crew members, before moving on. After she was done interacting with the crew, the group of us there to watch called out to her as she was walking away, and she stopped at met with everyone there. Giving out photos with, autographs, and chatting with everyone. Interactions like this one with Katie is why she is firmly in my top 50 nicest celebs list, and when I do my next update, will surely move up a bit more A little later they moved about 1/2 block up the street to their final location of the night. The final shoot seemed to give the vibe of a double date night. Luckily some Supergirl fans at the set informed me that the two couples I saw are couples on the show, so I didnt have to speculate on this. Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, Jesse Rath as Querl Dox were together in 1 grouping, with Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen were together walking slightly in front of them. The focus of the scene seemed to be on Alex and Kelly, as they stop at one point to have a conversation. I cant say what all happens, because I only really photographed the rehearsal for it. The cast security, who I have interacted with many times over the years on various sets, asked quite nicely if I could just co-operate with him and not be where I was because the actors wanted "privacy" for the scene. So I agreed and went for what I thought would be a good hidden spot, but somehow, someone in the crew saw me there, and he had to come over and ask me if I could move from there too. Even though I didnt have to, I obliged, as the way he went about it was not the usual demanding, bullying way that many others on most sets would try to deal with it. Not to mention, I know if I want autographs from the cast, working with his requests from time to time will help with that, as it did on this night. So the actual filming of the scene, I dont really know many details. All I know is the short little amount of pics I got during the rehearsals. At the end of the evening, all of the cast members stopped and took photos and signed for the fans. For a show who has a cast member so anti-fan in its lead spot, it really is amazing how generous and friendly the rest of this cast is. Oh, 1 other thing I got to find out. LaMonica Garrett as The Monitor, as I reported earlier this week with the first shot of him on an Arrowverse set outside of the Elseworlds crossover, was on the Arrow set earlier this week. I can confirm he is going to be on Supergirl too..... and he is there looking at someones dead body (all shot in studio, so dont expect photos of it). Start your panic-meters now. Who will it be?? Why?? Is it Crisis On Infinite Earths related? Guess we will have to wait and see. UPDATE MAY 5, 2019, 11:15 AM - I can now confirm the body The Monitor is looking at belongs to...... LEX LUTHOR! The photo below shows the scene description of "Monitor approaches Lex's dead corpse", and the scene number is 71, which would put it QUITE LATE in the episode.... POSSIBLY even the final scene. If I file a rakedown notice on you, it really is on you for not educating yourself. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. Early this month, I ran in to Supergirl shooting a scene for an episode (somewhere around episode 14 or 15). The scene seemed to be part of a protest march. While I definitely dont watch the show anymore, I am moderately aware that they have pushed very hard to make the show a direct knock off of real life politics. The scene they shot here seemed to be centred around the idea of aliens having equal rights to locals. The scene mostly was a group marching, with a group of guys wearing some jackets that had a large gold star on them. Sporadic chants could be heard from the scene telling people to leave, and they are unwelcomed there. They were apparantly outside a building for the "Department Of Alien Affairs". For much of the shoot, I was pretty much in the dark for what was going on because of the massive amount of background extras marching in the scene, and the plethora of placards they were carrying with various protest slogans on them. While I saw several cast on set, including newcomer Jonathan Bennett at one point. Only ones I actually "saw" filming were Nicole Maines as Nia Nal and Jesse Rath as Querl Dox for the most part. I KNOW they filmed a scene with Nia & Querl that also had Melissa Benoist as Supergirl and David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz in the scene, but for the most part, my view of them was obstructed. It was raining a lot, and between trying to find somewhere dry to photograph from, and all the equipment & protesters on the set, there was not a lot to actually see. I did earlier when I first got there saw ONE take of David & Jesse doing a scene where they walk along together..... but they never did that scene again while I was there. All in all, this was 1 of the more confusing sets I had been to, as there was long breaks between scenes, and the scene as I saw it, really didnt seem to line up right to me. All I can say of it is, it seems to consist of Jesse, Nicole, Melissa holding hands and walking along together while protesters stand behind them. This year, only 3 of their 4 shows are taking part, with Legends Of Tomorrow taking a pass on this one. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up for the event. Here is a quick scene they shot at B.C. Place (you may know it as usually the home of S.T.A.R. Labs exterior scenes) We have, Grant Gustin as The Flash, Stephen Amell as the Green Arrow, Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin dressed as what I believe to be Superman Prime, as well as a stand in dressed in a classic Superman outfit. In the scene, it appears Prime is trying to cause havoc by holding Barry Allen hostage outside of a building featuring the Superman logo. Eventually Oliver confronts him with a bow & arrow drawn, and Prime lets Barry go, before clapping his hands together, causing a massive boom behind the logo, then, he steals the mystery book that you have surely seen by now in the promo photos and trailers. Prime looks like he is about to pummel Superman when "something" interrupts his plan.... but what, or who? I have ONE MORE VIDEO to post.... depending on the traction this one gets, I might get it out before the episodes start airing. Today, I caught up on the Supergirl part of filming. The scenes they were shooting were at a place very familiar to the Arrowverse fans.... its the exterior location for S.T.A.R. Labs on The Flash.... but today, it didnt have the usual STAR Labs items around it. Instead, it had a big Superman/Supergirl logo in front. Todays scene saw Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, along with Tyler Hoechlin and his stunt double as Superman and an alternate Superman, Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Stephen Amell as Green Arrow shooting a scene where the alternate Superman seems to take The Flash as a hostage temporarily while Superman is reading from a book that seems to have all the symbols in it we previously had seen featured in episodes of The Flash. I'll try to add more of an update on the scene later... but cliff notes version. Black Superman takes Barry hostage briefly, then when Oliver moves in on him with his bow drawn, Barry tells Oliver not to attack, then Black Superman lets Barry go.... then claps his hands together, a huge boom goes off that creates an explosion behind that glass Superman emblem... he then goes, steals the book from the other Superman, and flies away. This year, only 3 of their 4 shows are taking part, with Legends Of Tomorrow taking a pass on this one. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up for the event. On this particular day, they filmed several scenes in downtown Vancouver for the "Supergirl" part of the crossover. Funny enough, with no main Supergirl cast, and only 1 of the 4 scenes shot even had a Supergirl guest star in it. Tyler Hoechlin was seen on set as Superman, and as Stephen Amell showed in a tweet yesterday, Superman has some new threads for this crossover event. Lucky Stephen was willing to share with you all, because when Tyler was down on ground level (they were filming on top of a parkade) he was more modest about showing off his new duds. Covering up the Man Of Steel outfit as much as he could. I managed a few photos that JUST catches the top of the logo before he covered up even more. There were two other scenes shot during the day that I didn't get any photos of the cast at. One in Oceanic Plaza, which is used by EVERYONE at some point, they had a scene where a group of spectators were watching something happen in the sky, but no actors were there for it. Then after the roof top scene, was a scene in an alley where they were using a drone to film... something? Whatever it was, it wasn't actors, I can tell you that much. A bit later I caught up with Stephen and Grant Gustin filming at a different location. While I had seen both of them at the roof top location, it was only for brief moments as they wanted to & from the set from their trailers. Grant once, noticed me there taking photos, and waved, then showed off his new attire, trying to put on a bad boy sneer with it. Of course, since I wasn't given prior warning to his plans, I both missed the wave, and him flaunting the wardrobe off to me, as I had started shooting too late to catch the wave, and ended too soon to catch the showing off in its entirety. At the other location Stephen, as Oliver Queen. Grant as Barry Allen, both shot a scene where the pair stormed down a street together, running into an apartment building before getting into an altercation inside the building. The pair were both dressed like boyband members pretending to be hoodlums. They had jackets on that said "Trigger Twins" on them. All I could think when I heard the term was how often triggered is used on the internet, and wondered, are Barry & Oliver internet vigilantes? But in all seriousness, the pair shot this series of scenes there, before they took a break. When they went on their break, I left, because I really didn't think anything more special would be happening. Sometimes I get this wrong... this was 1 of those rare occurrences. Barely after I got home & took my shoes off, I got a DM from a twitter user that was there @themyscirabound telling me Stephen showed back up, in full GREEN ARROW wardrobe. I asked Themyscirabound if she felt like sending me a couple photos to put in this post, and she agreed, so if you use any of the photos of Stephen in the Green Arrow attire below, credit HER.
