I caught up with the cast and crew of Supergirl filming down near the Vancouver Trade & Convention Centre today for a scene. Today they had a scene with Melissa Benoist dressed in her newly revealed season 5 Supergirl outfit, with a new colour scheme, logo, and pants added. Melissa showed up after the lunch break to shoot a scene where she stops a semi-truck from crashing into a car with a family in it. In earlier scenes with no main cast, they filmed a scene where the car had to swerve to avoid a woman walking & not looking where she was going. Despite a couple aggressive PAs who seemed to be confused about how public property works, the crew were quite understanding of everyone standing around taking photos of the new suit. So, here it, your first look at Supergirls new threads. I will try to post a few more photos later, but I wanted to give you all something to look at. UPDATE: August 2, 2019 - News of the mystery girl has been added. I once in a while have the luxury of stepping outside of my place and find a film set right there. On this day, the crew and cast of Supergirl were working in the building that is across the street from my place. All of the filming on the first day, and most of the 2nd day was inside the Orpheum Theatre. The only exterior was a walking scene with background actors at the end of the 2nd day of filming there. The building is well known in Vancouver, and has been used by most every show out there at some point. Early on the 1st day I saw some of the stunts team standing around outside waiting to film. At different points there I saw the doubles for Melissa, Nicole, Chyler, Jesse and a new girl that I do not yet know (* August 2 - we now know that it is Jennifer Cheon Garcia as "Midnight") . During the lull that came with the morning shooting, I went for a walk and found the circus for the set. There was A LOT of cast trailers there, and were prepped for work that day. As you can see from the photos below, I saw the trailers for several of the cast, but could not see them all because of the angles they were parked at. I found it a bit odd that Nia Nal has a tape marker on her trailer, but Kelly Olsen already has a full printed plate for her door. Back at the set, I managed to run into David Harewood and Jesse Rath as they left for their lunch break in the early afternoon and got some autographs from them on something cool I am trying to work on. Later in the afternoon, I saw Melissa Benoist going to set in her Supergirl wardrobe, but she was hiding it under some type of sweater or blanket. In the evening, we saw Katie McGrath and Nicole Maines head out to go grab burgers at Five Guys still in full Lena Luthor and Dreamer wardrobe. Nicole posted on her instagram about the experience of doing it HERE. Little was really known about what was going on inside the theatre. All anyone can really confirm is what cast were there. Besides the ones mentioned in this article, Chyler Leigh and Azie Tesfai were the only other cast known to be there that I did not get photos of, or interact with at some point. If I file a rakedown notice on you, it really is on you for not educating yourself. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. Early this month, I ran in to Supergirl shooting a scene for an episode (somewhere around episode 14 or 15). The scene seemed to be part of a protest march. While I definitely dont watch the show anymore, I am moderately aware that they have pushed very hard to make the show a direct knock off of real life politics. The scene they shot here seemed to be centred around the idea of aliens having equal rights to locals. The scene mostly was a group marching, with a group of guys wearing some jackets that had a large gold star on them. Sporadic chants could be heard from the scene telling people to leave, and they are unwelcomed there. They were apparantly outside a building for the "Department Of Alien Affairs". For much of the shoot, I was pretty much in the dark for what was going on because of the massive amount of background extras marching in the scene, and the plethora of placards they were carrying with various protest slogans on them. While I saw several cast on set, including newcomer Jonathan Bennett at one point. Only ones I actually "saw" filming were Nicole Maines as Nia Nal and Jesse Rath as Querl Dox for the most part. I KNOW they filmed a scene with Nia & Querl that also had Melissa Benoist as Supergirl and David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz in the scene, but for the most part, my view of them was obstructed. It was raining a lot, and between trying to find somewhere dry to photograph from, and all the equipment & protesters on the set, there was not a lot to actually see. I did earlier when I first got there saw ONE take of David & Jesse doing a scene where they walk along together..... but they never did that scene again while I was there. All in all, this was 1 of the more confusing sets I had been to, as there was long breaks between scenes, and the scene as I saw it, really didnt seem to line up right to me. All I can say of it is, it seems to consist of Jesse, Nicole, Melissa holding hands and walking along together while protesters stand behind them. This year, only 3 of their 4 shows are taking part, with Legends Of Tomorrow taking a pass on this one. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up for the event. Here is a quick scene they shot at B.C. Place (you may know it as usually the home of S.T.A.R. Labs exterior scenes) We have, Grant Gustin as The Flash, Stephen Amell as the Green Arrow, Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin dressed as what I believe to be Superman Prime, as well as a stand in dressed in a classic Superman outfit. In the scene, it appears Prime is trying to cause havoc by holding Barry Allen hostage outside of a building featuring the Superman logo. Eventually Oliver confronts him with a bow & arrow drawn, and Prime lets Barry go, before clapping his hands together, causing a massive boom behind the logo, then, he steals the mystery book that you have surely seen by now in the promo photos and trailers. You will have to watch it by Unofficial means, because the morons at The CW have given Netflix the rights to air The Flash the next day (it literally does NOT air live ANYWHERE in Canada), while giving Arrow to the Space network, and giving Supergirl to the Showcase network. Today, I caught up on the Supergirl part of filming. The scenes they were shooting were at a place very familiar to the Arrowverse fans.... its the exterior location for S.T.A.R. Labs on The Flash.... but today, it didnt have the usual STAR Labs items around it. Instead, it had a big Superman/Supergirl logo in front. Todays scene saw Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, along with Tyler Hoechlin and his stunt double as Superman and an alternate Superman, Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Stephen Amell as Green Arrow shooting a scene where the alternate Superman seems to take The Flash as a hostage temporarily while Superman is reading from a book that seems to have all the symbols in it we previously had seen featured in episodes of The Flash. I'll try to add more of an update on the scene later... but cliff notes version. Black Superman takes Barry hostage briefly, then when Oliver moves in on him with his bow drawn, Barry tells Oliver not to attack, then Black Superman lets Barry go.... then claps his hands together, a huge boom goes off that creates an explosion behind that glass Superman emblem... he then goes, steals the book from the other Superman, and flies away. The cast & crew shot scenes for season 4 episode 1 today at a spot I have seen filming at before. They were using an apartment building that any Fringe fan would know from the episode where Walter ends up in a pocket universe. The day started with the crew & about 70 background people shooting scenes for a vigil. I posted a couple photos below of the poster the attendees were holding. Not sure who it is.... if you do, feel free to inform me. After that, they shot a scene with Melissa Benoist dressed up as Kara Danvers, shooting a scene with cast newcomer Nicole Maines as Nia Nal. As far as I know, this was the first public shoot for Nicole, who gained major attention when they landed the role, as Nicole is a transgender person playing a transgender role. The scene had the pair arriving together at the apartment for what felt like a party by how others were dressed going in there. Nia was carrying a camera with her. Is Nia also a reporter? After a few scenes of that, they moved fully into the courtyard tey were filming in, so I moved on as there was nothing to see anymore. More photos will come soon... but for now, here is your first look at Nicole Maines on set of Supergirl. Earlier this month, the cast & crew shot scenes for season 4 episode 1 at the Vancouver Art Gallery (just across the street in fact from where they shot some of the season 3 finale). As I stated in my earlier blog post here, I had more photos and another video (along with the 3 posted HERE ) from a different scene shot on that day. This scene had Melissa Benoist dressed as her non Supergirl character Kara Danvers. She was joined by Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen. The pair were shooting a scene where they were at a press conference for ... someone? It is believed that it was supposed to be for President Olivia Marsdin (played by former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carder), but all they had was a different woman dressed similar to her up on the stage all day. Perhaps they will shoot a different angle of it in studio when Lynda can be there? But it seemed off that Kara and other reporters were asking this random person questions while she stood at a POTUS stand. Kara comes running up from a news truck, hands James a bottle of vodka, and proceeds to ask questions to the person there. Not much else happened in the scene, there was no superhero moments. They eventually wrapped that scene, and had Melissa leave for a wardrobe change for the scene that was from that last blog post linked above. Enjoy the photos below, and the video below that.
