With a list of Producers that include many of the superhero/comic book genres biggest Producers like Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, Neil Gaiman, Beth Schwartz, Lee Toland Krieger, and Sarah Schechter attached to it, there is big expectations for this series. in this blog are photos from 3 different sets I made it to over that time. I DO NOT know which episode numbers they are from, as I have long since lost track of when they started, and ended filming. For the first set, I caught them doing 2 different scenes on a freezing cold night shoot in the Gastown/Downtown Eastside area of Vancouver. I am unsure if any actors were on set for the first scene. At the time, I thought a pair that were crossing the street in the scene might be cast, but as the scene played out, I got the impression it might just be a filler scene of extras lining up. One thing that was for certain was, the scene was outside the Tongue & Tail Butcher Shop, which they filmed at on multiple occasions throughout the season (I took this photo of them there during the pilot filming, even earlier than these shoots, way back in 2021). After they finished that scene, they moved across the street to an alley scene. In the alley scene, we had 3 actors from the show doing a scene. Of course, since I had to stand more than a block away to get any shots of it, it was impossible to tell what was being said/done in the scene. All that I can confirm is George Rexstrew as Edwin Paine, Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland, and Kassius Nelson as Crystal Palace were in the scene, and that the three of them meet in the alley. Set two is the only daytime scene I caught them doing, in a location that almost every long running Vancouver production has used at some time or another, Victory Square. On this day, they had former Supernatural star Ruth Connell, as The Night Nurse, walking through a park, reading a book for a scene that appears to take place in Port Townsend, Washington. The scene seemed to contain no dialogue, or interactions with any of the background that were moving around in the scene. Shortly after that, they moved down the street to the Tongue & Tail, to set up for a night shoot, which I didnt stick around for. The final set was at another commonly used film location. The Vancouver Art Gallery. For this scene, there were couple actors on set, but I do not know if they are regulars or not, as the photos I got were, to say the least, poor. There was news vans, and police bikes from the United Kingdom also at the set, but I didnt see them in the specific scene I saw being filmed, so I dont know if they were for later scenes after I left, or for scenes that were shot before I got there. That is unfortunately all I got from season 1 of Dead Boy Detectives. Depending how well the series does, if there is a season 2, and if this post does decent enough, I will probably cover it as much as I can for season two. One of the major reasons it didnt get a lot of coverage in season 1 was, there were too many larger shows filming here, that have since wrapped. This blog was delayed due to 2 major medical situations that saw me in the hospital for a combined 21 days in February & March.... so apologies for the delay, but much of it was out of my hands. On this day, they were filming scenes at a couple locations on Davie Street in Vancouver. I got there to see them filming the 2nd location, in front of a coffee shop. In the scene was Scott Caan as Detective Jason Grant, and Ryan Broussard as Sergeant Mike Sherman. The scene was simple enough, the pair walk along having a conversation, when they then turn the corner, stop and have more dialogue. During the scene Mike looks at the glass of the coffee shop & does some type of shoulder roll thing, as if hes seeing how good/cool he looks doing it. Then the pair continue walking till the scene cuts moments later. During 1 of their breaks, I waited near their green room, and got Scott as he was walking by, to stop & sign some photos I had of him from his Hawaii Five-O days. I then wrapped up my day, and planned on going back for the next days shoot a little bit down the street at a club, but never did end up going, but I did take the 1 photo at the end of this set of them setting up props there the day before.
