UPDATE: OCTOBER 25, 2019 - Video has been added below of the bike rental scene.
There are a lot of shows that film in Vancouver, from the entire Arrowverse, to The Good Doctor, Riverdale, Supernatural, Project Blue Book and more, so sometimes a show slips through the cracks for a bit before I get a chance to catch up with them much.
A Million Little Things is well into their 2nd season of filming for the ABC drama. Last week, I caught up with them shooting in a couple spots in the Downtown Eastside and Gastown areas of Vancouver. These were scenes for episode 6, directed by Tessa Blake.
On the first day I caught up with them in the downtown eastside area at a place used by almost everyone at some point, Burrard Ironworks. Its a multi purpose building that on this day they had decorated to look like a storefront.
When I got there a scene was going on between a man and a younger kid. At the time I was unaware who either was, but as the day went on I clued in that the kid was former The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs as Patrick "PJ" Nelson. I still was unsure on the adult till I got home and had a chance to look at the photo details and do a little digging into the cast, and found it was former Entourage star Rhys Coiro as "Mitch Nelson". The scene had PJ talking to Mitch at his truck before PJ would leave.
A scene I didnt really get to see was done with Romany Malco as Rome Howard and Christina Moses as Regina Howard standing infront of the storefront. I dont know if the other cast were also in the scene as the position I had during the scene was mostly obstructed.
A bit later I got to see the scene from earlier from the other side of the streets angle, as PJ was walking along with Lizzy Greene as Sophie Dixon. In that portion of the scene they had PJ crossing back across the street to meet up with Sophie before the couple walked away together holding hands. On the walk backs from the scene, it seemed like the pair were having a good time working with each other, as there was lots of laughs & smiles. After they wrapped that scene I got an autograph from lizzy as she left for the day.
The next day, I caught up to the cast & crew filming several blocks west of the day priors shoot in Gastown. By the time I got to their set, they had already wrapped one location, and were nearing the completion of their 2nd location. So I only got to see shooting from their final location of that day.
In the scene we had Rome, Regina, Sophie & PJ again, this time all in a scene together as the two couples went out for a bike ride together. The scene had the two couples walking down the street when they see a rack of rental bikes sitting there (cleverly disguised versions of our own rental bike program, interesting use of whats around) and decide to take some out and go for a ride. As Rome & Regina stare at the payment machine for a moment, the kids go and pick out their bikes.
I managed to get Chandler and Romany to sign at different points during the day while I was there during breaks in their filming.
A Million Little Things returns to TV for the 2nd season this September on ABC in the U.S.
I have some photos from season 1 filming of a scene with David Giuntoli that I never got to posting. If there is still some interest in those, let me know and I will try to get to them sometime soon. If I see some good traffic for this post, I will make an effort to try and get to their sets a bit more often for you.
