The 2015 Best Of TV Awards finals are under way. The 6th annual BOTVA's have already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record is 575,000 votes in a year has also fallen now. The Semi-Final rounds for Best Action or Drama Actor, Actress and Program categories took place a couple weeks ago. Person Of Interest finds itself in the finals for a 5th consecutive year, 4th time in this category (plus 2011 New Program category), they will try to improve on their all time best 5th place finish & their 2nd in the semi-finals bodes well for that happening. Last years runner up and former 2X category winners Castle are again in the mix with a 3rd place finish in the semis. Hannibal finds themselves back in the finals for a 2nd time, looking to improve on their 7th place finish last year. Criminal Minds stays in the finals, making it an unprecidented 6th finals appearance in this category. Still hoping to get their 1st win, with a 2nd & 3rd in the past few years. Hawaii Five-0 is back for their 5th finals. The Blacklist is in their 2nd straight finals. Rookie Blue is in the finals for a 2nd time, their last appearance was in 2013. Gotham and How To Get Away With Murder find themselves in the finals for the first time in this category. Last year they both made it in the New Program category. Rizzoli And Isles makes the finals for the first time in any category. The Best Action or Drama Actor Category will not have a repeat winner as last years winner Christopher Gorham "Covert Affairs" is not eligible this year. There are two former Winners in the mix though. The 2013 winner John Barrowman "Arrow" is once again back, along with his shows star Stephen Amell, who led semi-final voting (as he did last year as well) and Paul Blackthorne for his 2nd time. The 2012 & 2011 winner Nathan Fillion "Castle" who is joined this time by 1st time finalst Jon Huertas from his show. Mads Mikkelsen & Hugh Dancy "Hannibal" both are back for a 3rd consecutive finals. Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson "Person Of Interest" are back in the finals, caviezel for his 3rd time (missing last year) and Emerson for his 2nd (first time since 2012) along with their cast mate Kevin Chapman making his 1st finals. Yannick Bisson "Murdoch Mysteries" makes the finals for the 2nd time. Alex O'Loughlin "Hawaii Five-0" is back for his 4th finals. Ben McKenzie "Gotham" returns to the finals for his 2nd year in a row, along with 1st time finalist from the show Robin Lord taylor. James Spader "The Blacklist" slips into the last spot of the finals, making it his 3rd consecutive finals. In the finals for the first time, along with Huertas, Chapman and Taylor are Rami Malek "Mr. Robot" and Charlie Cox "Daredevil" in their shows 1st year. The Best Action or Drama Actress Category had last years winner leading the semi-final voting as Emily Bett Rickards "Arrow" led by a wide margin, her co-stars Katie Cassidy & Willa Holland also made it for the 2nd time each. The former 3 time winner Stana Katic "Castle" was 2nd and will be joined this year in the finals by co-star Molly Quinn for her 1st time. Amy Acker "Person Of Interest" who plays Root, the May Madness Character winner this past year was 3rd and makes the finals for her 3rd time. She is joined by 1st time finalist Sarah Shahi from the show. Gillian Anderson "Hannibal" a finalist last year in the recurring actress category is back this time in the action/drama actress category, along with co-star Caroline Dhavernas. Helene Joy "Murdoch Mysteries" makes the finals for the 2nd consecutive year. Lucy Liu "Elementary" is back for her 3rd time as is Grace Park "Hawaii Five-0". Taraji P Henson " Empire" makes the finals for the first time on this show, and her 2nd time in the category, previously with "Person Of Interest" in 2013. In the finals for the first time besides Molly Quinn, Sarah Shahi, Gillian Anderson and Caroline Dhavernas. Viola Davis "How To Get Away With Murder. Sasha Alexander & Angie Harmon "Rizzoli And Isles", Missy Peregrym "Rookie Blue" making this the 1st finals appearance for a Rookie Blue main cast member. This year however, in their 11th season SPN might be in a fight for the 2015 award. Lost Girl, the 2013 runner up made noise in the semi-final voting leading the way over 2nd year TNT hit The Librarians, and Forever from ABC. Both making the finals for the first time. Supernatural was still in the mix, finishing 4th, just ahead of The Flash, the 2014 Best New Program winner. Once Upon A Time, the 2011 New Program winner is also in the finals, along with the 2012 Best Sci-Fi /Fantasy Program Winner The Walking Dead. Agents Of SHIELD is back in the finals after last years final appearance. Game Of Thrones is back for their 3rd straight finals appearance. Doctor Who, last years runner up & the 2013 3rd place finisher, sneaks into the finals in the last spot by only 5 votes. The Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actor Category semi-final vote was led by Jensen Ackles from "Supernatural". This shouldnt seem like a shock to anyone considering Mr. Ackles is the owner of the most awards in BOTVA history. The shocker... he only led by ONE vote over his co-star Jared Padalecki. This is the 5th year in a row Jared has made the finals, unfortunately, in each of his previous attempts, he has managed to never finish better than 3rd in 2011. Also making the finals from SPN is Misha Collins for his 5th time. Christian Kane from "The Librarians" & Ioan Gruffudd "Forever" finished 4th & 5th & finds their way to the finals for the 1st time. Robert Carlyle "Once Upon A Time" is in the finals for a 4th time, hoping to better his 4th place finishes of 2011 and 2013. Colin O'Donoghue returns to the finals for his 2nd time & Josh Dallas for his 1st time join Robert from the Once cast in the finals. grant Gustin last years runner up is back for his 2nd finals, along with his other cast mates from The Flash, Carlos Valdes & Tom Cavanagh both make the finals for their 1st times. John Larroquette joins his co-star from The Librarians, Christian Kane, as 1st time finalists. Kris Holden-Ried "Lost Girl" is in the finals for his 2nd time in this category, and 3rd time total for this role. The only person to ever win this award besides Jensen Ackles, Nornam Reedus "The Walking Dead", the 2012 winner, is back for his 4th time, this time joined by Andrew Lincoln in his 1st finals after 3 consecutive times being a semi-finalist. Peter Capaldi "Doctor Who" is back after his 3rd place finish last year. Lucas Bryant "Haven" makes the finals for the first time, seemingly replacing his co-star Eric Balfour, who was in the finals the last two years. Rahul Kohli from "iZombie" makes the finals in the shows 1st season, and Bob Morley "The 100" makes the finals for the first time. The Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress Category will have the last 3 winners of the award all in the finals this year. Still never having had a 2 time winner, the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress award is the only main acting award to not have had such. This year, it could finally be the year as the 3 former winners, Jenna Coleman "Doctor Who" 2014, Zoie Palmer "Lost Girl" 2013, Jennifer Morrison "Once Upon A Time" 2012 are all in the finals this year. Palmer in fact is pulling double duty in the finals as she is also up for "Dark Matter". However, they find some stiff competition in their way. Another OUAT actress led semi-final voting, Lana Parrilla., last years Runner Up is in her 5th consecutive final. Ginnifer Goodwin joins her two castmates in the finals for her 3rd time. Anna Silk "Lost Girl" will join her castmate in the finals for the 4th time in this category, 5th time for the character. Rebecca Romijn "The Librarians" makes the finals for the first time. Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker "The Flash" both make the finals for the first time. Ruth Connell "Supernatural" is a finalist for the first time, and is the first ever actress from SPN to make the finals of the main category despite the show having 37 all time BOTVAs, including 4 Recurring Actress BOTVAs. Both last years runner up How I Met Your Mother, and 3rd place Psych, are no longer eligible, leaving a large gap between last eyars contenders and the champ.TBBT, looking for its 6th straight win, led semi-final voting by a near 5 to 3 margin over the 2nd place show Orange Is The New Black, making the finals for the first time. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern family, Glee & 2 Broke Girls all find themselves back in the finals. New Girl returns to the finals, after being there in 2013. Jane The Virgin, Shameless, The Goldbergs and Veep all make their debuts in the finals. The Best Comedy Actor Category will see the winners of the last 3 awards battle it out again. Two time winner & defending champion Jim Parsons "The Big Bang Theory" had a slight lead over 2013 winner Chris Colfer "Glee" in the semi-finals. With 5 of last years 10 finalists not making the finals this year, either thru being voted out, or no longer eligible, there is a new crop of contenders to make a run at the two champs. Timothy Omundson "Galavant" is back in the finals, after making it there 3 times in a row for his work on "Psych". Simon Helberg returns a 3rd time to join his "The Big Bang Theory" star Jim parsons in the finals along with 1st time finalist Kevin Sussman. Chris Pratt "Parks And Recreation" finds himself back in the finals for the first time since 2011. Andy Samberg and Terry Crews "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" both make the finals, this is Sambergs 2nd time after making it last year. Tituss Burgess "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", William H. Macy "Shameless", Don Cheadle "House Of Lies", Charlie Day "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" and "Modern family" duo Ed O'Neil and Ty Burrell all find themselves in the finals for the first time. The Best Comedy Actress Category seems to be headed for another battle between the two 2X Winners in this c ategory from The Big Bang Theory. Kaley Cuoco (2011, 2013) and Mayim Bialik (2012, 2014) have dominated this category since its inception, winning all 4 titles between them. This year, things are so close that the semi-finals saw the pair TIE for first. Last years final was decided by TWO (2) votes. So the tie isnt really too big of a shocker. Their co-star Melissa Rauch will again join them in the finals for the 3rd consecutive year. The Big Bang Theory trio will see their competition this year come from the likes of 3X finalist Kat Dennings "2 Broke Girls" with a 3rd place finish in the semi-finals, she looks to improve on her career best 5th place last year.. Orange Is The New Black duo of Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba are back in the finals after making them for the 1st time last year. Last years winning show, Arrow notched 5 finalists, despite the maximum 3 rule, due to a tie in the semi-final voting for 3rd place from the show, and nabbing 1 of the spots in the run off late addition voting. Other shows putting in multiple finalists the show with 2 Best Episode awards Supernatural with 4, Castle with 4, Daredevil, Doctor Who, Hannibal, Lost Girl, The Flash, The Walking Dead, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with 3 Agents Of SHIELD, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, iZombie with 2. There are 8 shows with only 1 finalist, all 8 are 1st time finalists in the category. The Best Director Category will see the two time winner Jensen Ackles having some competition this time from "Arrow" director Lexi Alexander for Beyond Redemption and 2014 semi-finalist "Person of Interest" director Chris Fisher for If-Then-Else. With Hannibal having 3 finalists, Person of Interest, Supernatural and The Walking Dead all having two finalists each, the potential for vote splitting on those shows is going to give the lone Arrow candidate a serious chance to win. The Best Animated Program Category looks again like it will be dominated by The Simpsons. With very few serious contenders in the field, the longest running prime time animated series of all time looks poised to win its 3rd straight award. Perennial contenders Family Guy and South Park look to be the most probable competition. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Archer and Bobs Burgers will all be in the finals as well. Second and third were newcomers to the finals The 100 and Person of Interest. Other newcomers to the finals that were not there last year include How To Get Away With Murder, Daredevil, iZombie & Greys Anatomy. Not making the finals this year who were there last were Castle, Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries, Doctor Who, The Flash, The Big Bang Theory. The Favorite TV Character Category is always possibly one of the most sought titles here. This year seems to be no different as 3 finalists got over the 1000 vote mark and another was close. Defending champion Felicity Smoak from "Arrow" finds herself fending off challenges from three "Person Of Interest" challengers (would have been more if it werent for the new rule about a maximum of 3 candidates in a category from any show). Root, aka - Samantha Groves (the 2015 May Madness character winner) led voting barely over her co-star Sameen Shaw. Harold Finch, another POI character finished 4th not far behind. Only 4 people left from the first ever Favorite Character Finals that are eligible, and all 4 of them, for a 4th consecutive year still find themselves in the finals. 3 time winner Dean Winchester, along with his co-star Castiel from "Supernatural", as well as Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" and Richard Castle "Castle" all managed spots in the finals again. With the list expanding from 40 to 55 names this year, there was a lot of newcomers to the finals. Most notably Sameen Shaw in 2nd & Harold Finch in 4th from Person Of Interest. John Diggle from Arrow in 10th is in the finals, at the expense of 3 Arrow characters that made last years finals when there was no cap on finalists from a show. Several shows have finalists who either were not even around last year, or had never managed a finalist prior to now. The 100 with 3, iZombie, Rookie Blue, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt all with 2 each, Agent Carter, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Daredevil, How To Get Away With Murder with 1 each. Missing from the finals this year however from last years list is last years runner up Kenzi from "Lost Girl" probably due to her lack of screen time this year. Sara Lance/Canary from Arrow also missed out due to the maximum candidates rule. Both candidates from the Murdoch Mysteries, William Murdoch & Julie Ogden fell well short in the semi-finals this year, with Ogden finishing last. Sherlock Holmes & John Watson from "Sherlock" of course missed this years due to the shows hiatus. The Best Couple Category is another hotly contested award here every year. For such a pointless award compared to more respectable titles it does garner a lot of very crazy and some very passionate fans. This year has been mired in controversy of course, again, as it is almost every year. But again the "Arrow" combo of Oliver Queen & his now fiance Felicity Smoak (aka "Olicity") led the semi-final voting over the very unstable sort of couple of Root & Shaw (aka "Shoot") from "Person of Interest". Clarke & Lexa (Clexa) from "The 100" were a bit further behind in 3rd. The top 4 finalists from last year all find themselves back in the finals again. Along with Olicity, Castle & Beckett "Caskett", Bo & Lauren "Docubbus" & Emma & Hook "CaptainSwan" all made the finals again. Missing the finals this year are Kenzi & Hale from Lost Girl due to 1 or both characters not being on the show anymore. Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson from "Glee" who seemingly were replaced by another Glee couple it seems. Damon & Elena from "The Vampire Diaries" which was a mild shock to me, but with 1 of the leads having left the show I guess it was out of sight, out of mind for their fans. Barry Allen & Felicity Smoak, yet both characters find themselves in the finals. Besides Shoot & Clexa, there were a few other new additions. barry Allen & Iris West (WestAllen) "The Flash", Robin Hood & Regina Mills (OutlawQueen) "Once Upon A Time" Santana Lopez & Brittany Pierce "Glee". After missing last years finals by 5 votes Amy Farrah Fowler & Sheldon Cooper "ShAmy" from "The Big Bang Theory" find themselves back in after 1 year out of the finals, along with Snow White & Prince Charming from "Once Upon A Time" who also were in 2013 but missed out in 2014. With all 3 former champions in this category, along with a couple new serious contenders, I expect a lot of fanbases ahrd at work trying to push their choices to the top in the finals. On that note, it should be noted that ONE finalist (and 2 others...but on lesser scales) had more than 1 person attempt to purposely cheat in the semi-finals, logging in 1000s of votes by circumventing the IP rule.... but, as those from past years are aware... thats not the only line of defense I use to stop this. Those votes were all discared and ONLY votes for that candidate from other voters were counted. Attempts like that in the finals wont be handled so delicately. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days..
