The 2015 Best Of TV Awards finals are under way. The 6th annual BOTVA's have already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record is 575,000 votes in a year has also fallen now. The Semi-Final rounds for Best Action or Drama Actor, Actress and Program categories took place a couple weeks ago. Person Of Interest finds itself in the finals for a 5th consecutive year, 4th time in this category (plus 2011 New Program category), they will try to improve on their all time best 5th place finish & their 2nd in the semi-finals bodes well for that happening. Last years runner up and former 2X category winners Castle are again in the mix with a 3rd place finish in the semis. Hannibal finds themselves back in the finals for a 2nd time, looking to improve on their 7th place finish last year. Criminal Minds stays in the finals, making it an unprecidented 6th finals appearance in this category. Still hoping to get their 1st win, with a 2nd & 3rd in the past few years. Hawaii Five-0 is back for their 5th finals. The Blacklist is in their 2nd straight finals. Rookie Blue is in the finals for a 2nd time, their last appearance was in 2013. Gotham and How To Get Away With Murder find themselves in the finals for the first time in this category. Last year they both made it in the New Program category. Rizzoli And Isles makes the finals for the first time in any category. The Best Action or Drama Actor Category will not have a repeat winner as last years winner Christopher Gorham "Covert Affairs" is not eligible this year. There are two former Winners in the mix though. The 2013 winner John Barrowman "Arrow" is once again back, along with his shows star Stephen Amell, who led semi-final voting (as he did last year as well) and Paul Blackthorne for his 2nd time. The 2012 & 2011 winner Nathan Fillion "Castle" who is joined this time by 1st time finalst Jon Huertas from his show. Mads Mikkelsen & Hugh Dancy "Hannibal" both are back for a 3rd consecutive finals. Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson "Person Of Interest" are back in the finals, caviezel for his 3rd time (missing last year) and Emerson for his 2nd (first time since 2012) along with their cast mate Kevin Chapman making his 1st finals. Yannick Bisson "Murdoch Mysteries" makes the finals for the 2nd time. Alex O'Loughlin "Hawaii Five-0" is back for his 4th finals. Ben McKenzie "Gotham" returns to the finals for his 2nd year in a row, along with 1st time finalist from the show Robin Lord taylor. James Spader "The Blacklist" slips into the last spot of the finals, making it his 3rd consecutive finals. In the finals for the first time, along with Huertas, Chapman and Taylor are Rami Malek "Mr. Robot" and Charlie Cox "Daredevil" in their shows 1st year. The Best Action or Drama Actress Category had last years winner leading the semi-final voting as Emily Bett Rickards "Arrow" led by a wide margin, her co-stars Katie Cassidy & Willa Holland also made it for the 2nd time each. The former 3 time winner Stana Katic "Castle" was 2nd and will be joined this year in the finals by co-star Molly Quinn for her 1st time. Amy Acker "Person Of Interest" who plays Root, the May Madness Character winner this past year was 3rd and makes the finals for her 3rd time. She is joined by 1st time finalist Sarah Shahi from the show. Gillian Anderson "Hannibal" a finalist last year in the recurring actress category is back this time in the action/drama actress category, along with co-star Caroline Dhavernas. Helene Joy "Murdoch Mysteries" makes the finals for the 2nd consecutive year. Lucy Liu "Elementary" is back for her 3rd time as is Grace Park "Hawaii Five-0". Taraji P Henson " Empire" makes the finals for the first time on this show, and her 2nd time in the category, previously with "Person Of Interest" in 2013. In the finals for the first time besides Molly Quinn, Sarah Shahi, Gillian Anderson and Caroline Dhavernas. Viola Davis "How To Get Away With Murder. Sasha Alexander & Angie Harmon "Rizzoli And Isles", Missy Peregrym "Rookie Blue" making this the 1st finals appearance for a Rookie Blue main cast member. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Action or Drama Actor is.... Christopher Gorham "Covert Affairs" It seemed a foregone conclussion that this years winner would be from Castle or Arrow based on the first two rounds of voting & years prior voting. Instead Christopher Gorham "Covert Affairs" pulls out a quite frankly, unexpected win. Gorham who brings to life blind CIA officer Auggie Anderson on the show pulled out all the stops to win. Using twitter & the social celebrity networking site WhoSay to encourage fans to vote for him. This is the 1st time Best Action or Drama Actor Award has been won by someone from a show that has no other awards. This is Covert Affairs 1st & only award as the show recently was canceled by USA. Runner up Stephen Amell "Arrow" was 3rd last year narrowly beat out the 2013 winner, his co-star John Barrowman by 4 votes. Fair to say the vote split of these 2, and the other 2 Arrow cast on the ballot had some play in this years winner. In 4th is the 2 time winner of the award Nathan Fillion "Castle". Well back in 5th is James Spader "The Blacklist" in his 2nd finals appearance, up from last years 7th. In 6th is Mads Mikkelsen "Hannibal" down 1 spot from 5th last year. In 7th is Yannick Bisson "Murdoch Mysteries" in his 1st ever finals apperance. In 8th is Alex O’Loughlin "Hawaii Five’O" dropped from the 4th place finish of last year in his 3rd consecutive finals appearance. In 9th is Ben McKenzie from the rookie hit "Gotham". The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Sexiest Actor is.... Stephen Amell The 3 time winner Jensen Ackles has been dethroned by another CW stud. Stephen Amell from Arrow wins this years Sexiest Actor with 1,365 votes & a 479 vote margin of victory, breaking both previous records held by Ackles for total votes in 2011- 1087 and largest margin of victory in 2012- 270. The 3X winner made the list still in an unfamiliar place for him, 2nd, with 886 votes, his lowest total in the 4 years of this award. In 3rd was the 2012 runner up to Ackles, who somehow wasnt even in the finals at all last year, Nathan Fillion with 660 votes. Coming in 4th was another 2012 finalist that did not make it in 2013, Kris Holden-Ried, 9th in 2012, made 4th this year with 560 votes after not making the finals last year. Finalists from last year that finished in the finals this year as well include, Mads Mikkelsen (5th last year) in 6th this year with 451 votes. Last years 3rd place finalist Colin O'Donoghue comes in 8th this year with 186. Benedict Cumberbatch, the 2013 runner up slips to 9th with 155. Johnny Depp who was 8th last year, 1 of only three men to make every final finished 10th with 154. Jared Padalecki, the 2 time 3rd place finalist, who was tied with this years winner Stephen Amell last year in 6th, finished in 11th. Chris Evans in 5th with 483 votes returned to the finals for the first time since 2011 where he finished 11th. The highest ranked newcomer to the finals was Ian Somerhalder finished 7th with 214. This year, those same top 3 finalists from last year are back & in the serious mix for this years honour. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham. The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible. The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Last years 4th place finisher, Misha Collins, missed the finals by 11 votes. With 3 different winners in the 3 years of this award, Sexiest Actress might be on the verge of going 4 for 4 if the semi-finals are a sign of what the finals will bring. Despite the strong penalties against Zoie Palmer and Anna Silk for the ineligible vote penalties of the nomination round, both of them managed to finish 1st & 2nd in this category. However, they still will have penalties against them in the finals. At least going into the finals.... they look the the pair to beat for the award. The last 2 Sexiest Actress winners Jennifer Lawrence & Stana Katic are again in the finals in 3rd & 4th. However, the first ever winner Erica Durance, did not make the finals this year. Like the men, 8 of last years finalists made this years finals. The highest ranked finalist last year to not make it this year was Olivia Wilde, as she did not even make the semi-finals this year. A mild upset in thie castegory as the defending 2-time champion was knocked off by 1st time finalist from "Arrow" John Barrowman. With 566 votes Barrowman, who brings vendetta driven evil mastermind Malcolm Merlyn to life on the CW program came roaring from behind. In the early days, was dead last, but came on strong in the final 4 days & especially the last 2 days when he cut a 27 vote defifict to win to eventual runner up Nathan Fillion "Castle" with 556 votes. In 3rd was the star of "Arrow" Stephen Amell with 474 votes. In 4th was Alex O'Loughlin "Hawaii Five-O". In 5th was Mads Mikkelsen "Hannibal". In 6th was Jonny Lee Miller "Elementary". In 7th was James Spader "The Blacklist". In 8th was Matthew Gray Gubler "Criminal Minds". In 9th was Jim Caviezel "Person Of Interest". In 10th was Hugh Dancy "Hannibal". Day 1 had Mikkelsen with the lead twice, Amell, O'Loughlin & Fillion also held leads. Day 2 had Mikkelsen & Amell switch leads. Day 3 & 4 was Fillion leading. Day 5, 6 & 7 was Fillion & Barrowman flipping leads several times before Barrowman took the lead with about 3 hours left & never gave it back. John Barrowman winning by only 10 votes is a category record for smallest margain of victory. Previous record was 132 held by Nathan Fillion in 2011. Best Action Or Drama Program semi-final voting was led by a 2nd year show, Arrow with 445 votes. The 2X defending champ Castle was 2nd with 257, Hawaii Five-O came in 3rd with 190. Rounding out the top 5 were Person of Interest & Criminal Minds. The rest of the finalists are - Elementary, Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, Breaking Bad & Rooke Blue. Missing the finals - Rizzoli And Isles by 9 votes, White Collar by 14 votes & Downton Abbey by 17 votes. The 2010 champ Dexter, in its final season finished a distant 31 votes back. Former 2X finalist Burn Notice was 36 votes back. Best Action Or Drama Actor semi-final voting had 4 lead changes, but "Arrow" star Stephen Amell led with 373 votes.
