This gives ABC their 5th program award in the BOTVA history. They won with 45 votes. The Good Doctor focuses around Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism (Freddie Highmore) learning how to be a doctor, and how to just deal with the complicated everyday human emotions of everyone else. The show also features Richard Schiff, Hill Harper, Beau Garrett, Nicholas Gonzalez, Antonia Thomas, Chuku Modu & Tamlyn Tomita. Runner Up was 13 Reason Why with 38 votes. The serious drama about a teens suicide was one of 2017s most polarizing shows, getting equal amounts of hate & love from the public & critics for its subject matter. Third was The Punisher with 32 votes. The most recent in the Marvel Netflix anti-hero roster dealt with a plethora of real life issues like PTSD of soldiers, while still making it a top quality anti-hero show.. Lucifer won with 127 votes. This was the shows 2nd consecutive finals appearance, finishing 4th last year. For a show named after the Devil himself, you expect a lot of bad behaviour, and Lucifer delivers. This past year saw a will they wont they relationship with the shows lead continue on, while he tries to figure out why he suddenly doesnt have his trademark devil face, and has his wings back. It saw his brother Amenadiel stuck in the middle of a love/friend triangle with Dr. Martin & Mazikeen. It added new interesting characters including Cain & a repackaged Charlotte Richards. While still finding things for Dan Espinoza, Ella Lopez & Trixie Decker to do in the stories to endear them to the fans as well. Runner Up was recently canceled Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency with 90 votes. Perhaps if these awards were 3 months sooner, or the show premiered 3 months later, then Netflix & BBC America would have seen how loved the show was with its fans. Third was 3X winner in this category Supernatural with 41 votes.Despite cleaning up in several other categories this year, the SPN fans missed this category almost completely. 2014 Winner Arrow was in 4th with 34 votes in their 6th consecutive finals appearance (11th, 3rd, 1st, 3rd, 11th). The Blacklist was 5th with 28 votes in their 2nd consecutive finals appearance. Vastly improving on their 15th place finish last year. Timeless & Wynonna Earp tied for 6th with 22 votes. Their margin of victory of 37 also beats the old record, held by Supernatural in 2013 beating Lost Girl by 110. Besides Dirk Gently, there was a few other first time finalists. Timeless 6th, Supergirl 9th, This Is Us 12th, Legends Of Tomorrow 15th, The Good Doctor 17th, Gotham 20th, Brooklyn Nine Nine 21st all made the finals for the first time. Brooklyn Nine Nine becomes the only other sitcom, besides The Big Bang Theory, to make the finals in the 6 years of this category. Four of last years top 6, including 2nd & 3rd, did not make this years finals. With Person of Interest & Grimm both ending, The Walking Dead & Once Upon A Time still active, but missed the finals. Three shows, Supernatural, Arrow, Game Of Thrones have made every finals in this category.
