 The 2017 Best Of TV Awards winner in the category of Best Episode is - REGARDING DEAN "SUPERNATURAL" This years winner for Best Episode is Regarding Dean "Supernatural", giving them their 4th award in this category, their first since 3 consecutive wins from 2011 to 2013 & the shows 50th BOTVA. Regarding Dean won with 533 votes. The 11th episode of the shows 12 season saw 1 of the shows lead characters Dean Winchester with a case of amnesia brought on by a spell from a witch. Eventually, his brother Sam & another witch, Rowena, help him break the curse. Runner Up was A Good Day To Die "Lucifer" with 175 votes. This was the 1st time Person of Interest had any episodes in the finals of this category, and lo & behold, If-Then-Else, the 11th episode of their season, and first of 2015, wins. Directed by Chris Fisher, in the episode we find Reese, Finch, Fusco & Root known by its fans as Team Machine heading to the New York Stock Exchange after a crippling attack on it by Samaratan, while their other member Shaw tracks a man on a subway that is considered key to all of whats going on. In a bit of a nod to Groundhog Day, The Machine plays thru various scenarios when the team ends up in trouble to find the best of the bad options they have and takes the viewers on a ride as it plays out each scenario before rewinding right back to the start of their troubles. Shaw ends up in the middle of a suicide attempt on the train & has to deviate from her original plan to assure no one ends up dead. We get a couple of scenes of Root flirting heavily with Shaw in the episode, with Shaw eventually telling Root that "yeah Root, maybe someday". Eventually Shaw makes it to the NYSE just in time to help her team & improve the teams chances. In the end the machine helps the team escape, but they are left with a terrible decision in the end. One of them will have to stay behind to trigger the button to help the elevator they have escaped to to go. Root tries to stop Shaw, before Shaw gives her a big kiss & then pushes her back away from the door as she closes it & goes to the button as Root is left yelling at the cage door. The episode ends with the elevator door closing and the survival of Shaw unknown at the time with Samaratan operative Martine standing over top of Shaw with a gun pointed at her. After last years Win, Arrow nabs 2nd place this year with their mid-season finale "Dark Waters". In 3rd is "Mr & Mrs. Castle" from Castle. The episode "Out Of Time" from The Flash nabbed 4th. "Just My Imagination" from the 3X Winning show Supernatural took 5th. Supernatural also took 6th with the Impala-centric episode "Baby". The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Episode is.... The Secret Origin Of Felicity Smoak "Arrow" This years winner for Best Episode is NOT from Supernatural.... seriously. With a new category record 952 votes The Secret Origin Of Felicity Smoak "Arrow" won, beating out the season 2 finale of the same show, Unthinkable by a category record 193 votes. The popularity of the Felicity Smoak character might not be any more apparent than by this win. Simply having her name in the title seemed to be enough for her fans to vote for it despite it clearly not being the best of its own show from the last year. The episode featured the secondary characters backstory about her early day sof her computer hacking and cleverly tied in a current day story related to her past to make it fit. The runner up was another Arrow episode Unthinkable. The season 2 finale. Perhaps if it was titled "Felicity Smoak's Unthinkable" it would have won instead as it had the lead for a couple days in the middle of the voting. In 3rd was Veritas from "Castle" which led in voting early on till Arrow fans rallied behind their episodes. Rounding out the top 10 were Like Hell Part 1 "Lost Girl" which was from the "late addition" vote in. Dark Horse "Lost Girl" was 5th. Fan Fiction from "Supernatural" was the highest any SPN episode faired at 6th, Waves "Lost Girl" was 7th, Once Upon A Time In The West "Castle" was 8th, the Arrow/Flash cross over episode for "Arrow" The Brave & The Bold, came in 9th. Rounding out the top 10 was Streets Of Fire from "Arrow". In my analysis of the semi-final voting I really felt Supernatural, Arrow, Lost Girl & Castle would struggle to win because of vote splitting, yet those shows dominated the entire top 10 list. Arrow has 2 of the top 3, including John Behring for "Unthinkable" as the top vote getter, narrowly beating out 2012 winner Jensen Ackles for "Soul Survivor" on Supernatural. Douglas Aarniokoski on "Seeing Red" rounds out the bookends of the Arrow Supernatural Arrow trio. Amanda Tapping managed 2 finalist spots with her 2 part Continuum episodes. Besides 2012 winner Ackles, Pamela Fryman "How Your Mother Met Me" is the only other previous contender for Best Director, making the semi-finals last year. Last years winning show Glee, had no finalists this year as their 2 semi-finalist contenders did not advance. The Best Episode category, aka - "favorite Supernatural episode" in the years past could be a hard one to predict. Supernatural is well represented in the finals. SEVEN finalists for the 3X Winning show, Arrow and Lost Girl managed 5, while Castle has 4. While it would SEEM to be a safe bet with Arrow & Supernatural dominating the top 8 spots that they are a shoe in to win, theres then the fact that in the finals the amount of challengers you can vote for will be limited to 2 or 3. Vote splitting is always a problem when a show shoves too many of its challengers into a finals. Perhaps The Flash or Murdoch Mysteries with their 1 singular nominee will win because their fans will not be split on who to vote for. Also, an error occurred in listing for a couple days of this category. One of the Arrow finalists, The Secret Origins Of Felicity Smoak was mistakenly listed as Draw Back Your Bow for awhile, so if you voted for DBYB & wonder where it is.... is was changed to TSOOFS during the round after the error was noticed.
