The 2015 Best Of TV Awards are about to start the Finals soon. The 6th annual BOTVA's are still closing out some polls for the run off round before we advance to the finals. We've already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record of 575,000 votes in a year looks sure to fall as we passed the 560,000 vote mark in the semi-finals & nearly broke the 570,000 mark. Only finalists last year to miss the mark this year were two of my faves, Molly Quinn & Jennifer Love Hewitt. Despite the finalists list expanding from 16 to 20. Newcomers to the finals this year will include Amy Acker, Sarah Shahi, Gillian Anderson, Hayley Atwell, Elizabeth Henstridge, Grace Park. The last 3 winners, Emily Bett Rickards, Jennifer Lawrence and Stana Katic are all in this years finals. Along with 4 time top 3 finalist Zoie Palmer. In a rare occurance in these awards, pretty much all the leaders in the nomination round were near the top in the semi-finals. The top 4 in this round, Rickards, Acker, Shahi, Palmer, were also the top 4 in the opening round. As well, Anderson, Silk and Parrilla in the opening round all finished in the top 8 & did so here as well. This is nothing short of rare for these awards, as the opening round often sees 1 or 2 hopefuls being propped up by a couple enthusiastic supporters fall by the wayside in round 2 when the voting is limited to 1 each. Last years winner Emily Bett Rickards had sizable leads in the 1st & 2nd rounds & would seem like a good bet to repeat this year. The Sexiest Actor Category was not so predictable. While last years winner Stephen Amell did lead the semi-final voting, he was an adequate 8th in the opening round. The Nomination round vote leader Mads Mikkelsen continued with trying to make an impact by coming in 2nd in the semi-finals. His co-star, who finished 2nd in round 1, didnt even qualify for the finals. Strange to say the least, its usually not till the finals that fandoms abandon a 2nd choice when voting is streamlined to only 1 or 2 picks. Another top 5 opening round vote getter didnt make the finals, Vincent D'Onofrio, as the power of the small handful of voters he had in the first round couldnt get enough of their fans to follow suit in round 2. Jim Caviezel, Jared Padalecki & Chris Hemsworth round out the top 5 in the semi-finals. Only Caviezel was a top 5 name after round one of voting. Three time winner Jensen Ackles qualified for the finals in 7th, the lowest hes ever come into the finals at. The Best Non-Human Character or Prop category looks poised to potentially have a new winner. The four time winner, The Impala from "Supernatural" seems to have some stiff competition this year. The "Person Of Interest" dog Bear has led the voting in both rounds, with another POI candidate second in both, The Machine. While The Impala did improve from the 1st round to the 2nd round by going from a 5th place showing up to a 3rd place showing & was less than 100 votes behind the leader, this is clearly the first ever sign of any challenge to the defending 4X champions crown. Interestingly the 3rd place finisher in round 1, did not even make the finals, finishing 2nd to last. While the last place qualifier in round 1 finished in the top 5 this round. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. Emily Bett Rickards "Arrow" After last years near miss, it was not a large shock that this years winner for Best Action or Drama Actress is Emily Bett rickards from "Arrow. In 2013 this years runner up Stana Katic "Castle" won her 3rd consecutive award with a narrow 4 vote win over Rickards. This year Emily left no doubt who would win with a 1912 vote total and a 700 vote margin of victory, both category records. Katic with 1212 finds herself in 2nd. In 3rd was a tie between Maggie Smith of "Downton Abbey" in her 1st finals appearance and Amy Acker "Person of Interest" who was 5th last year. In 5th is Pauley Perrette "NCIS" marking the 1st ever finals appearance for the show in any category. In 6th was last years 3rd place finalist Lucy Liu "Elementary". In 7th Helene Joy "Murdoch Mysteries" in her 1st finals appearance. In 8th is Katie Cassidy "Arrow" in her 1st finals appearance. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Favorite TV Character is.... Felicity Smoak "Arrow" After 4 years of Dean Winchester from "Supernatural" as the pollsters Favorite Character, we have a new winner. Felicity Smoak (played by Emily Bett Rickards) "Arrow" won the honour this year with a new record 1,340 votes, surpassing the old record from 2011 of 1165 by Dean Winchester. Her margin of victor of 318 is also a new record, breaking the record of 186 from last year by Dean Winchester. Ms. Smoak has had an interesting year. She had her crush tell her he loves her, was used to help her crush/boss take down Deathstroke, and got a new boss at her day job. Felicity has certainly become a fan favorite in the short time of the show. This was the 2nd year felicity was in the finals, finishing 4th last year & showing she might be a force to be reckoned with someday. Runner up this year goes to Kenzi from "Lost Girl" with 1,022 votes. This is the 3rd year in a row that someone from the show was runner up, after 2 consecutive years of Lauren Lewis being there the fans opted this time to choose a character that died this past year on the show. Last year Kenzi was 14th. After 4 consecutive awards, Dean Winchester "Supernatural" finishes in an unfamiliar 3rd with 822 votes. In 4th is Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" 786, up from the 7th place she was last year. In 5th was Richard Castle "Castle" with 779, the characters highest ever finish was 13th last year. In 6th was Oliver Queen/Arrow "Arrow" up from lat years 11th place finish. In 7th was Kate Beckett "Castle" which is a sharp rise from the 19th she placed last year. Regina Mills/Evil Queen "Once Upon A Time" was 8th, dropping slightly from 6th last year, Hannibal Lecter "Hannibal" finished 9th one spot lower than his 8th place finish last year. Sam Winchester was 12th, dropping from his 5th place spot last year. While Castiel "Supernatural" last years 3rd place finalist, and the only person besides Dean Winchester to be on the top 5 list every yead, dropped all the way to 13th this year. Kurt Hummel slipped to 14th this year after being 10th last year. Emma Swan "Once Upon A Time" in 24th returns to the finals for the 1st time since 2012. Odd statistical anomaly, Amy Farrah Fowler "The Big Bang Theory" in 40th has made the finals 4 times, and has finished last in 3 of the 4 years.  2014 Best Of TV Awards - Best Guest Star Winner OSRIC CHAU "Supernatural" Photo Credit - Warner Bros. & The CW The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Guest Star is.... Osric Chau "Supernatural" For the 3rd consecutive year a Supernatural Guest Star wins this award. Osric Chau, the 2013 Recurring Actor Award winner nabs the 2014 honour for Best Guest Star. Only a 31 vote margin of victory over another SPN familiar face, Kim Rhodes in 2nd, Rhodes held the lead several times as her and Chau leapfrogged each other a few times in the last 3 days before Chau took enough of a lead to not be caught. This is the smallest margin of victory in this category to date. In 3rd was "Agent Of SHIELD" guest Star Lucy Lawless. Another Supernatural guest star, Rob Benedict nabbed 4th ahead of Person of Interest guest star Winston Duke in 5th, Duke held the lead for much of the 1st two days of voting before slowing down considerably. Shockingly, considering the dominance she has had in all her other categories so far this year, Emily Bett Rickards finished a mediocre 6th in the guest star category for her spot on "The Flash" just ahead of Stephen Amell for the same episode. In 8th was "Once Upon A Time" guest star Rose McGowanjust ahead of 9th place Cliff Simon from "Castle" and rounding out the top 10 was a rare 3 way tie with Colin O'Donnell "Arrow", Hugh Dillon "Continuum" & Bob Newhart "The Big Bang Theory" all tying for the spot. Deon Richmond "Psych" nabbed 13th ahead of Natalie Dormer "Elementary" in 14th. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best Couple is.... Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak "Arrow" I suppose the characters played by this years Sexiest Actor & Actress Winners seemed like a safe bet for the Best Couple category. Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak from "Arrow" or as theya re more known by their fans "Olicity" win this years Best Couple. Beating out the 2X champions from "Lost Girl" Lauren Lewis & Bo Dennis & the 2013 Winners Richard Castle & Kate Beckett from "Castle" With 1,745 Olicity sets a new record for votes in this category i the finals, breaking the old mark of 1,350 by last years winners Lauren & Bo. The 482 vote margin of victory also is a new record, breaing last years mark of 266. Olicity had the lead in voting from the beginning of voting & never relinquished it. The couple known as Doccubus from "Lost Girl" Lauren & Bo came in 2nd with a total of 1,263. Which was well ahead of the 2012 Champions Richard & Kate (Caskett) from "Castle" in 3rd. Well back in 4th was Captain Hook & Emma Swan (Captain Swan) from "Once Upon A Time" with 308 votes. Last year 2 OUAT couples made the finals, this year neither of them were back, seemingly being replaced by CaptainSwan. In 5th is another Lost Girl duo, Kenzi & Hale Santiago. Emily Bett Rickards Something is for certain this year in the BOTVAs, Arrow fans are making their mark. The Sexiest Actress this year went to the actress from Arrow with a category record 1,365 votes (oddly, exact same total as the Sexiest Actor winner had this year) & 1/4 of all the votes. With 388 more votes than the 2012 Winner Stana Katic, this marks the largest margin of victory in the 4 years of the award. Formerly Erica Durance in 2011 with 176 was the largest margin of victory, Jennifer Lawrence last year had the largest vote total prior to this year with 1114 The 2012 Winner & last years 6th place finalist Stana Katic came in 2nd with 976. Last two years runner up Zoie Palmer finished 3rd this year, and last two years 3rd place finalist Anna Silk finished 4th. Other finalists from last year, the 2013 Winner Jennifer Lawrence finished in a tie for 5th with 314 votes, Jennifer Morrison (5th) was 9th this year with 93, Kat Dennings (9th) finished 10th this year wth 85 & Anna Torv (11th) finished 14th with 49 votes. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham. The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible. The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Missing the mark this time were retired Breaking Bad, along with Rookie Blue, Elementary, Grey's Anatomy & The Mentalist. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE |
