 The 2016 Best Of TV Awards winner in the category of Best Couple is - Samantha Groves/Root & Sameen Shaw "Person Of Interest" This years winner is the first ever winner to repeat as champion. The couple known to its shippers as "Shoot" wins for the 2nd time in their final year of eligibility for the award. While its never really fully stated that 1 of the pair had the same feelings as the other, it was undeniable that when on screen together, they had chemistry. This marks the 4th time in the 6 years of this award that same sex couple has won the award. With 209 votes they beat the runner ups by 70 votes. This years Runner up was the 2012 winners, Richard Castle & Kate Beckett "Castle" (Caskett) with 139 votes.. Third was Nick Burkhardt & Adalind Schade "Grimm" in their 1st finals with 95 votes. Fourth was Steve McGarrett & Catherine Rollins "Hawaii Five-0" (McRoll) with 91 votes. In 5th was the 2013 winners Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak "Arrow" (Olicity) with 45 votes. This years Best Couple winner is technically not even a couple.... but met the categories dynamics (something a specific fan base in the opening round had trouble understanding). Samantha Groves, aka Root and another member of Team Machine Sameen Shaw won the Best Couple based off the 1 kiss they shared last year in episode 411 after a lot of suggestions from Root that they should be together, which till that moment Shaw had ignored. While the deranged "couple" still havent found each other since then, the fans of the couple known as "Shoot" (reasonably named considering the duos penchant for guns & just happens to be a combination of Shaw & Root) havent stopped hoping. In 2nd was last years super couple, the 2014 BOTVA winners Oliver Queen & Felicity Smoak "Arrow". The popularity of this couple, known as Olicity with a select part of the shows fandom is not in dispute. In 3rd was the 2012 Winners Richard Castle & Kate Beckett "Castle", known as Caskett by their fans. In 4th was Robin Hood & Regina Mills "Once Upon A Time" in their 1st ever finals in this category known as Outlaw Queen with their fandom. Prince Charming & Snow White "Once Upon A Time" were back for a 3rd time. Snowing made the finals prior in 2011 and 2013. Thea Queen & Roy Harper "Arrow" made the finals for a 2nd consecutive year. Not making the finals this year who were there last were Castle, Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries, Doctor Who, The Flash, The Big Bang Theory. The Favorite TV Character Category is always possibly one of the most sought titles here. This year seems to be no different as 3 finalists got over the 1000 vote mark and another was close. Defending champion Felicity Smoak from "Arrow" finds herself fending off challenges from three "Person Of Interest" challengers (would have been more if it werent for the new rule about a maximum of 3 candidates in a category from any show). Root, aka - Samantha Groves (the 2015 May Madness character winner) led voting barely over her co-star Sameen Shaw. Harold Finch, another POI character finished 4th not far behind. Only 4 people left from the first ever Favorite Character Finals that are eligible, and all 4 of them, for a 4th consecutive year still find themselves in the finals. 3 time winner Dean Winchester, along with his co-star Castiel from "Supernatural", as well as Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" and Richard Castle "Castle" all managed spots in the finals again. With the list expanding from 40 to 55 names this year, there was a lot of newcomers to the finals. Most notably Sameen Shaw in 2nd & Harold Finch in 4th from Person Of Interest. John Diggle from Arrow in 10th is in the finals, at the expense of 3 Arrow characters that made last years finals when there was no cap on finalists from a show. Several shows have finalists who either were not even around last year, or had never managed a finalist prior to now. The 100 with 3, iZombie, Rookie Blue, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt all with 2 each, Agent Carter, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Daredevil, How To Get Away With Murder with 1 each. Missing from the finals this year however from last years list is last years runner up Kenzi from "Lost Girl" probably due to her lack of screen time this year. Sara Lance/Canary from Arrow also missed out due to the maximum candidates rule. Both candidates from the Murdoch Mysteries, William Murdoch & Julie Ogden fell well short in the semi-finals this year, with Ogden finishing last. Sherlock Holmes & John Watson from "Sherlock" of course missed this years due to the shows hiatus. The Best Couple Category is another hotly contested award here every year. For such a pointless award compared to more respectable titles it does garner a lot of very crazy and some very passionate fans. This year has been mired in controversy of course, again, as it is almost every year. But again the "Arrow" combo of Oliver Queen & his now fiance Felicity Smoak (aka "Olicity") led the semi-final voting over the very unstable sort of couple of Root & Shaw (aka "Shoot") from "Person of Interest". Clarke & Lexa (Clexa) from "The 100" were a bit further behind in 3rd. The top 4 finalists from last year all find themselves back in the finals again. Along with Olicity, Castle & Beckett "Caskett", Bo & Lauren "Docubbus" & Emma & Hook "CaptainSwan" all made the finals again. Missing the finals this year are Kenzi & Hale from Lost Girl due to 1 or both characters not being on the show anymore. Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson from "Glee" who seemingly were replaced by another Glee couple it seems. Damon & Elena from "The Vampire Diaries" which was a mild shock to me, but with 1 of the leads having left the show I guess it was out of sight, out of mind for their fans. Barry Allen & Felicity Smoak, yet both characters find themselves in the finals. Besides Shoot & Clexa, there were a few other new additions. barry Allen & Iris West (WestAllen) "The Flash", Robin Hood & Regina Mills (OutlawQueen) "Once Upon A Time" Santana Lopez & Brittany Pierce "Glee". After missing last years finals by 5 votes Amy Farrah Fowler & Sheldon Cooper "ShAmy" from "The Big Bang Theory" find themselves back in after 1 year out of the finals, along with Snow White & Prince Charming from "Once Upon A Time" who also were in 2013 but missed out in 2014. With all 3 former champions in this category, along with a couple new serious contenders, I expect a lot of fanbases ahrd at work trying to push their choices to the top in the finals. On that note, it should be noted that ONE finalist (and 2 others...but on lesser scales) had more than 1 person attempt to purposely cheat in the semi-finals, logging in 1000s of votes by circumventing the IP rule.... but, as those from past years are aware... thats not the only line of defense I use to stop this. Those votes were all discared and ONLY votes for that candidate from other voters were counted. Attempts like that in the finals wont be handled so delicately. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Favorite TV Character is.... Felicity Smoak "Arrow" After 4 years of Dean Winchester from "Supernatural" as the pollsters Favorite Character, we have a new winner. Felicity Smoak (played by Emily Bett Rickards) "Arrow" won the honour this year with a new record 1,340 votes, surpassing the old record from 2011 of 1165 by Dean Winchester. Her margin of victor of 318 is also a new record, breaking the record of 186 from last year by Dean Winchester. Ms. Smoak has had an interesting year. She had her crush tell her he loves her, was used to help her crush/boss take down Deathstroke, and got a new boss at her day job. Felicity has certainly become a fan favorite in the short time of the show. This was the 2nd year felicity was in the finals, finishing 4th last year & showing she might be a force to be reckoned with someday. Runner up this year goes to Kenzi from "Lost Girl" with 1,022 votes. This is the 3rd year in a row that someone from the show was runner up, after 2 consecutive years of Lauren Lewis being there the fans opted this time to choose a character that died this past year on the show. Last year Kenzi was 14th. After 4 consecutive awards, Dean Winchester "Supernatural" finishes in an unfamiliar 3rd with 822 votes. In 4th is Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" 786, up from the 7th place she was last year. In 5th was Richard Castle "Castle" with 779, the characters highest ever finish was 13th last year. In 6th was Oliver Queen/Arrow "Arrow" up from lat years 11th place finish. In 7th was Kate Beckett "Castle" which is a sharp rise from the 19th she placed last year. Regina Mills/Evil Queen "Once Upon A Time" was 8th, dropping slightly from 6th last year, Hannibal Lecter "Hannibal" finished 9th one spot lower than his 8th place finish last year. Sam Winchester was 12th, dropping from his 5th place spot last year. While Castiel "Supernatural" last years 3rd place finalist, and the only person besides Dean Winchester to be on the top 5 list every yead, dropped all the way to 13th this year. Kurt Hummel slipped to 14th this year after being 10th last year. Emma Swan "Once Upon A Time" in 24th returns to the finals for the 1st time since 2012. Odd statistical anomaly, Amy Farrah Fowler "The Big Bang Theory" in 40th has made the finals 4 times, and has finished last in 3 of the 4 years. Last years runner up Lost Girl took 3rd and is still a threat if their fans decide to try. Only shows that did not make the finals that did last season were Continuum, Hannibal, Hawaii Five-O, Sleepy Hollow & retired Fringe. Newcomers to the finals are Agents Of SHIELD, Murdoch Mysteries, Orange Is The New Black, Sherlock & The Flash. The Favorite Character category again sees the defending 4 time champion Dean Winchester "Supernatural" not going in as the favorite based on the Semi-Final vote. This year however, he has 1 less challenger to threaten his title as the 2012 & 2013 runner up was penalized heavily for her fans refusal to follow rules, and it cost her. Castiel from "Supernatural", last years semi-final runer up & finalist 3rd place competitor goes into the finals as the semi-final leader. 20 of the 25 finalists last year are in again. Only exclusions are the now retired Fringe duo of Walter Bishop & Olivia Dunham, How I Met Your Mother character Barney Stinson in his last run, Sherlock Holmes from Elementary, although should be noted Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock is in this year, and finally Dr. Lauren Lewis of Lost Girl who only failed to make it due to a fan boycott due to the penalties levied....although they had no problem putting their 2 other stars through. Newcomers are plenty, most notable Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow, Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock & William Murdoch & Julia Ogden of Murdoch Mysteries. All of whom passed 100 votes in the semi-finals. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE The Best Director category in only its 2nd year & so far its been almost all Supernatural running away with it. Winning last years & runner up, they look poised to try & do that again this year with 4 finalists. Philip Sgriccia "Sacrifice" (Supernatural) led with 137 votes, just 9 ahead of last years runner up, back for another crack at it with 2 finalists Guy Norman Bee "Devil May Care" at 128 votes & "Taxi Driver" (Supernatural) in 4th with 113. Sandwiched in between the pair of finalists from Bee is Jeannot Szwarc "LARP And The Real Girl" (Supernatural) at 123 votes. Rounding out the top 5 is a non-SPN challenger John Fawcett "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (Orphan Black) Other finalists are - David Barrett "Sacrifice" (Arrow), Joel Wyman "An Enemy Of Fate" (Fringe), Brad Falchuk "The Quarterback" (Glee) & Shawn Piller "Fallout" (Haven). Missing the finals - Ron Underwood "Things We Said Today" (Grey's Anatomy) was 24 votes back & Pamela Fryman "Something New" (How I Met Your Mother) was 25 votes back. The Best Couple category is again looking like it will be "Lost Girl" VS the rest. The 2011 winners & 2012 runner-ups are again coming out swinging in the early rounds. The 1st ever same sex couple to get nominated in the awards, Bo & Dr. Lauren Lewis "Lost Girl" grabbed 871 votes in round 2, more than the next 3 combined. Well back in 2nd was Rumplestiltskins Storybrooke alias Mr. Gold & Belle from "Once Upon A Time" at 334, the 2012 champs crime fighting duo Richard Castle & Kate Beckett from "Castle" were 3rd with 260. In 4th was easily the most awkward couple on TV Dr. Sheldon Cooper & Amy Farrah Fowler of "The Big Bang Theory". Rounding out the top 5 are the real lie soon to be parents TV characters Prince Charming & Snow White from "Once Upon A Time". A series of run off polls took place, with results set to give those who had the best results in the 1st round of polls the best chance at a spot in the run off votes, while still giving those who didnt do as well in the 1st round of polls a chance still at a spot in the tournament. 15 shows have more than 1 challenger, with Supernatural having 7 & Once Upon A Time having 4. 23 spots are taken by characters that are on shows which have ended, or are currently in limbo.
