The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. The Finals for the 5th annual BOTVA's will begin in early 2015. But 1st we need candidates to compete in the finals. This year, those same top 3 finalists from last year are back & in the serious mix for this years honour. Joining them are 1st time finalist Christopher Gorham from Covert Affairs who finished 2nd to Stephen Amell from Arrow for the semi-final vote, and Mads Mikkelsen from hannibal, who finished 4th, a spot higher than he finished in the finals of last years vote. While the top 5 from last year all made the finals this year, the bottom half of last years top 10 was not so lucky, only 7th place James Spader from The Blacklist & 10th place Hugh Dancy from hannibal is returning. Ousted were Johnny Lee Miller of Elementary, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds and Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest. New to the party besides Gorham are, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes from Arrow, giving them FOUR finalists. Yannick Bisson from Murdoch Mysteries, and Ben McKenzie from the rookie drama Gotham. The Best Action Or Drama Actress category has been the "Stana Katic Award" since its inception in 2011 as the actress from Castle has won all 3 times, making her the only actor or actress to win her award every year since its existence. But this year, it might not go her way if Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow has any say in it. The leading vote getting in the semi-finals had more than Katic & 3rd place fellow Arrow cast member Susanna Thompson combined. Three more Arrow cast made the finals with Caity Lotz in 4th, Willa Holland in 5th & Katie Cassidy in 12th, giving Arrow FIVE finalists. Surely vote splitting will be a major concern for the finalists there, giving Katic a bit of a chance still as she was the only finalist from Castle with Molly Quinn just missing out by 5 votes. Despite the seemingly lopsided rrow & Stana Katic race, there are other contenders. Lucy Liu from Elementary finished 3rd last year in the finals to Katic & Rickards, and comes in this year in 6th in the semi-finals. Amy Acker of Person Of Interest was also a finalist last year, finishing 5th and narrowly made it in this year in 11th. Grace Park finished 6th last year & finished 8th in this years semi-finals. Other newcomers besides the 4 newcomers from Arrow include Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey and Helene Joy from Murdoch Mysteries. Two finalists from last year Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy & Kerry Washington from Scandal failed to make the finals this year, along with Celina Jade from Arrow & Taraji P. Henson from Person Of Interest who are no longer eligible. The Best Action or Drama Program category will again look like a fight between the defending champion Arrow & the former 2 time champion Castle. Perennial contender Criminal Minds finished 3rd last year and finished 8th in the semi-final voting to make it 5 consecutive years in the finals, the ONLY Drama to have done so. Last years New Program runner up Hannibal finished 3rd in the semi-final vote, cementing itself as a contender this year. In 4th is 1st time finalist Covert Affairs. Joining Covert Affairs on the 1st time finalist list is Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries & The Blacklist. Only 5 of last years finalists made it to the finals this year. Missing the mark this time were retired Breaking Bad, along with Rookie Blue, Elementary, Grey's Anatomy & The Mentalist. The Finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE

There are 8 challengers who made the finals last year that also have made the finals this year. Included in that bunch is last years runner up Benedict Cumberbatch and 3rd place challenger Colin O'Donoghue. Two finalists were not even nominees last year, Tom Hiddleston & Chris Pratt. Last years 4th place finisher, Misha Collins, missed the finals by 11 votes. With 3 different winners in the 3 years of this award, Sexiest Actress might be on the verge of going 4 for 4 if the semi-finals are a sign of what the finals will bring. Despite the strong penalties against Zoie Palmer and Anna Silk for the ineligible vote penalties of the nomination round, both of them managed to finish 1st & 2nd in this category. However, they still will have penalties against them in the finals. At least going into the finals.... they look the the pair to beat for the award. The last 2 Sexiest Actress winners Jennifer Lawrence & Stana Katic are again in the finals in 3rd & 4th. However, the first ever winner Erica Durance, did not make the finals this year. Like the men, 8 of last years finalists made this years finals. The highest ranked finalist last year to not make it this year was Olivia Wilde, as she did not even make the semi-finals this year. Best Of TV Awards 2013 Winner Best Action or Drama Actress STANA KATIC "Castle" (Photo Credit - ABC) The Best Of TV Awards 2013 winner in the category of Best Action or Drama Actress is Stana Katic "Castle". Unlike her male co-star Stana Katic "Castle" managed to hold on for the 3-peat in her category. Kate beckett, the character Stana Katic brings to life every week on the ABC crime-drama had an adventurous year that saw her character get engaged. With 564 votes Katic managed to eek out a narrow win over finalist newcomer Emily Bett Rickards "Arrow" wth 560 votes. In 3rd was Lucy Liu "Elementary" with 414 votes. In 4th was Celina Jade "Arrow". In 5th was Amy Acker "Person of Interest". In 6th was Grace Park "Hawaii Five-O". In 7th was Ellen Pompeo "Grey's Anatomy". In 8th was Taraji P. Henson "Person Of Interest". In 9th was Kacey Rohl "Hannibal". In 10th was Kerry Washington "Scandal". Day 1 had Amy Acker, Celina Jade both with short leads, while Stana Katic & Emily Bett Rickards held the leads for longer periods. Day 2 thru 4 Katic held the lead. Day 5 Katic & Rickards. Day 6 Katic had the lead, and never gave it up, despite the race getting as close as 2 votes in the final hour. Stana Katic win by only 4 votes is the smallest margain of victor yin the category.  Best Of TV Awards 2013 - Sexiest Actress Winner Jennifer Lawrence The Best Of TV Awards 2013 winner in the category of Sexiest Actress is Jennifer Lawrence. The Academy Award winning Hunger Games hottie won this year with 1,114 votes, after finishing 6th last year. Runner up for a 3rd time in a row, to 3 different winners, Zoie Palmer from "Lost Girl" with 1075 votes. Palmer held the lead for most of the vote, but lost the lead with about 48 hrs to go, breifly got it back, only to lose it with about 16 hours left & never got it back. In 3rd Anna Silk also of "Lost Girl" was well back with 702 votes. This was her 2nd consecutive 3rd place finish. Rounding out the top 5 were Jennifer Morrison of "Once Upon A Time" & Emily Bett Rickards "Arrow". In 6th was last years champion Stana Katic from "Castle". 7th was Olivia Wilde, 8th Nina Dobrev of "The Vampire Diaries", 9th Kat Dennings from "2 Broke Girls", 10th Kaley Cuoco "The Big Bang Theory & in last was Anna Torv of "Fringe" in her 3rd finals. There was a staggering 17 lead changes on day 1. Lawrence & Palmer had 5 each, Emily Bett Rickards had 3 leads, Anna Silk, Anna Torv, Stana Katic & Kat Dennings also had the leads breifly the 1st day. Eventually the top 2 would seperate from the rest of the pacl, Palmer & Lawrence would switch the leads another 9 times over the final 6 days of voting. Jennifer Lawrence set a new record for votes in this category with 1114, Zoie Palmer also broke the previous record held by Erica Durance of 909 in 2011. Best Action Or Drama Program semi-final voting was led by a 2nd year show, Arrow with 445 votes. The 2X defending champ Castle was 2nd with 257, Hawaii Five-O came in 3rd with 190. Rounding out the top 5 were Person of Interest & Criminal Minds. The rest of the finalists are - Elementary, Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, Breaking Bad & Rooke Blue. Missing the finals - Rizzoli And Isles by 9 votes, White Collar by 14 votes & Downton Abbey by 17 votes. The 2010 champ Dexter, in its final season finished a distant 31 votes back. Former 2X finalist Burn Notice was 36 votes back. Best Action Or Drama Actor semi-final voting had 4 lead changes, but "Arrow" star Stephen Amell led with 373 votes. Well back in 2nd was Rumplestiltskins Storybrooke alias Mr. Gold & Belle from "Once Upon A Time" at 334, the 2012 champs crime fighting duo Richard Castle & Kate Beckett from "Castle" were 3rd with 260. In 4th was easily the most awkward couple on TV Dr. Sheldon Cooper & Amy Farrah Fowler of "The Big Bang Theory". Rounding out the top 5 are the real lie soon to be parents TV characters Prince Charming & Snow White from "Once Upon A Time". On the mens side. 1/2 of last years top 10 list didnt make the finals this year. While a "Supernatural" star did top the polls again, this time it wasnt 2X winner Jensen Ackles. In fact Mr. Ackles finished 2nd with 616 votes, well behind his castmate Misha Collins at 721 votes. In 3rd is 2012 5th place finalist & 2011 9th place finalist Gale Harold at 427 votes. The final part of the "Supernatural" trio Jared Padalecki nabbed 4th with 397 votes and the man best known as "Sherlock Holmes" Benedict Cumberbatch came in 5th with 349 votes. The rest of the finalists are Mads Mikkelsen from "Hannibal", "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth, "Arrow" star Stephen Amell, the iconic Johnny Depp, Colin O'Donoghue from "Once Upon A Time" Tom Mison of "Sleepy Hollow" & "Captain America" Chris Evans. Missing the finals were Ian Somerhalder by 19 votes & Chris Pine by 20. A bit further further back were last years finalists Kris Holden-Ried 61 votes back, and Tom Welling a distant 116 votes back. The ladies also had some new blood in the finals. Last years 6th place finalist Jennifer Lawrence from "The Hunger Games" franchise led the way with 495 votes narrowly nudging the 2 time runner-up Zoie Palmer of "Lost Girl" with 486, rounding out the top 3 is another "Lost Girl" Anna Silk who will make the finals for her 3rd time in a row with 302 votes. Newcomer to the finals is "Arrow" star Emily Bett Rickards with 235 & former 2X finlist Olivia Wilde with 184 round out the top 5. The rest of the finalists are Lana Parrilla & Jennifer Morrison from "Once Upon A Time", Nina Dobrev "The Vampire Diaries", Kat Dennings "2 Broke Girls", last years winner Stana Katic from "Castle", "Fringe" star Anna Torv & "The Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco round out the finalists.
