The 2015 Best Of TV Awards Winner for Favorite TV Program is Person Of Interest (CBS). This years winner for Favorite Program, Person of Interest, was not even a nominee last year, and prior to this win had never made it past the semi-finals in 2 previous attempts. The show about a group of people trying to save the world with the help of an almost all knowing machine really has hit the fan favorite stratosphere in the last year for sure. Whether its the bad assness of Jim Caviezel as John Reese, or Michael Emerson as the tech savvy Harold Finch or Kevin Chapman as the crooked cop turned good Lionel Fusco, the show has always had an excellent micture of characters. With the more recent additions of Amy Acker as a regular portraying the clinically insane Root or Sarah Shahi as Sameen Shaw, another trained assasin, to the team the group that fans know as Team Machine has really developed into a force in its battle against the sinister group behind Samaratan. With the shows future is still unknown at this time, the fans of the program have been hard at work in every corner of the internet letting the station that holds the shows rights, CBS, know they are not pleased about it being temporarily shelved. With a shortened season this year POI hasnt even aired 1 episode, and still doesnt have a premiere date for the 2015-16 season. In the first couple days of voting Supernatural had a modest lead, but eventually POI kept pushing thru. The 100 made a very late push generating 200+ votes in the last 24 hrs of voting to move up to fourth but their charge was too little too late to make any real dent into the lead POI had by then. Person Of Interest knocked off last years winner Arrow who finished well back in 2nd, and the former 2X winner prior to that Supernatural who finished 3rd to take the award. In 4th is The 100 in its 1st ever finals. The Flash finished 5th in its 2nd consecutive finals in its 2nd year. The CW nabbed 2nd thru 5th, with a combined 1918 votes between them... just too spread out between its fandoms to topple POI. In 6th is Once Upon A Time for the 2nd year in a row. Lost Girl, the back-to-back runner ups finished 7th this year as the shows fans really didnt come out in nearly as much force as previous years in all the categories. The Walking Dead was 8th this year pulling off a rare feat these awards, improving their ranking for a 3rd straight year. Game Of Thrones came in 9th is up 1 spot from last year. Agents Of SHIELD & How To Get Away With Murder manage a tie for 10th. Agents making its 2nd final after 14th place finish last year, HTGAWM in its 1st finals. Orphan Black made the finals for its 3rd time, Orange Is The New Black is back for its 2nd finals Other first time finalists Grey's Anatomy, Daredevl, & iZombie. This year however, in their 11th season SPN might be in a fight for the 2015 award. Lost Girl, the 2013 runner up made noise in the semi-final voting leading the way over 2nd year TNT hit The Librarians, and Forever from ABC. Both making the finals for the first time. Supernatural was still in the mix, finishing 4th, just ahead of The Flash, the 2014 Best New Program winner. Once Upon A Time, the 2011 New Program winner is also in the finals, along with the 2012 Best Sci-Fi /Fantasy Program Winner The Walking Dead. Agents Of SHIELD is back in the finals after last years final appearance. Game Of Thrones is back for their 3rd straight finals appearance. Doctor Who, last years runner up & the 2013 3rd place finisher, sneaks into the finals in the last spot by only 5 votes.
The Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actor Category semi-final vote was led by Jensen Ackles from "Supernatural". This shouldnt seem like a shock to anyone considering Mr. Ackles is the owner of the most awards in BOTVA history. The shocker... he only led by ONE vote over his co-star Jared Padalecki. This is the 5th year in a row Jared has made the finals, unfortunately, in each of his previous attempts, he has managed to never finish better than 3rd in 2011. Also making the finals from SPN is Misha Collins for his 5th time. Christian Kane from "The Librarians" & Ioan Gruffudd "Forever" finished 4th & 5th & finds their way to the finals for the 1st time. Robert Carlyle "Once Upon A Time" is in the finals for a 4th time, hoping to better his 4th place finishes of 2011 and 2013. Colin O'Donoghue returns to the finals for his 2nd time & Josh Dallas for his 1st time join Robert from the Once cast in the finals. grant Gustin last years runner up is back for his 2nd finals, along with his other cast mates from The Flash, Carlos Valdes & Tom Cavanagh both make the finals for their 1st times. John Larroquette joins his co-star from The Librarians, Christian Kane, as 1st time finalists. Kris Holden-Ried "Lost Girl" is in the finals for his 2nd time in this category, and 3rd time total for this role. Clark Gregg from "Agents Of SHIELD" is back after a 4th place finish last year in the finals, along with 1st time finalist Ian DeCaestecker. Peter Dinklage "Game Of Thrones" is back for his 3rd time. The only person to ever win this award besides Jensen Ackles, Nornam Reedus "The Walking Dead", the 2012 winner, is back for his 4th time, this time joined by Andrew Lincoln in his 1st finals after 3 consecutive times being a semi-finalist. Peter Capaldi "Doctor Who" is back after his 3rd place finish last year. Lucas Bryant "Haven" makes the finals for the first time, seemingly replacing his co-star Eric Balfour, who was in the finals the last two years. Rahul Kohli from "iZombie" makes the finals in the shows 1st season, and Bob Morley "The 100" makes the finals for the first time. The Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress Category will have the last 3 winners of the award all in the finals this year. Still never having had a 2 time winner, the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress award is the only main acting award to not have had such. This year, it could finally be the year as the 3 former winners, Jenna Coleman "Doctor Who" 2014, Zoie Palmer "Lost Girl" 2013, Jennifer Morrison "Once Upon A Time" 2012 are all in the finals this year. Palmer in fact is pulling double duty in the finals as she is also up for "Dark Matter". However, they find some stiff competition in their way. Another OUAT actress led semi-final voting, Lana Parrilla., last years Runner Up is in her 5th consecutive final. Ginnifer Goodwin joins her two castmates in the finals for her 3rd time. Anna Silk "Lost Girl" will join her castmate in the finals for the 4th time in this category, 5th time for the character. Rebecca Romijn "The Librarians" makes the finals for the first time. Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker "The Flash" both make the finals for the first time. Ruth Connell "Supernatural" is a finalist for the first time, and is the first ever actress from SPN to make the finals of the main category despite the show having 37 all time BOTVAs, including 4 Recurring Actress BOTVAs. "The Walking Dead" star Melissa McBride is back in the finals for her 2nd time after a 3rd place finish last year, joining her is Danai Gurira for her 1st finals. Hayley Atwell "Agent Carter" makes the finals for the 1st time in her shows inagural year, as is Rose McIver from "iZombie". Tatiana Maslany "Orphan Black" is back for her 3rd time. Ming Na Wen and Elizabeth Henstridge "Agents Of SHIELD" both are back for their 2nd finals. Eliza Taylor & Lindsey Morgan "The 100" are in the finals for their 1st times. Emilia Clarke "Game Of Thrones" is back for her 3rd time, along with 2013 Best Youth Actress winner Maisie Williams in her 1st finals for this category. While the show does have 1 finalist in Curtis Armstrong, it seems like he will certainly have some serious competition this year from others on other shows. A bit of a shocker to me, Bradley James from iZombie led voting in the semi-finals. Ian Anthony Dale from "Hawaii Five-0" was tied for 2nd with Armstrong. Winston Duke from "Person of Interest" a 5th place Guest Star finalist last year, finds himself in the hunt for the Recurring honour this year. Noah Wyle, John Noble, Joshua Jackson and Jon Hamm all find themselves competing in this category this year, all previously were finalists in the main actor categories for completely different shows, in the past. The Best Recurring Actress Category finalists had another minor upset (to me at least) in the semi-finals. Ann Mahoney from "The Walking Dead" a non-factor in round 1 voting where she finished 32nd, led voting this round. Felicia Day from "Supernatural" , the 2013 Winner of this award was 2nd. Alycia Debnam-Carey will have two spots in the finals, one for "The 100" & one for "Fear The Walking Dead". Michelle Borth of "Hawaii Five-0" makes the finals as a Recurring actress this year, after missing out on the finals in the Best Action/Drama Actress category last year. Camren Mannheim led 3 "Person Of Interest" actresses into the finals, along with cara Buono and Annie Ilonzeh. Ksenia Solo, a finalist last year in this category for "Lost Girl" is back with her work on "Orphan Black". Katrina Law, a finalist in this category last year, and caity Lotz, a finalist in the Best Sci-fi/Fantasy Actress category last year represent "Arrow" in the finals this year here. Rachel Nichols "Continuum" makes the finals one last time for her work on the show in its final season, this time in the Recurring category. The Best Guest Star Category was led by the Winner of the Best Action/Drama Actress category last year. Emily Bett Rickards "The Flash" led voting for the same cahracter that won her the most notable actress award last year, this time on a different show. She was also a finalist last year in this category for this very role, finishing 6th. Taraji P. Henson "Person Of Interest" is a finalist for her work with the character that got her a finalist nod in 2013 in the Best Action/Drama Actress field. Travis Aaron Wade, a finalist for Recurring Actor last year is back in the finals as a Guest Star this year for his work on "Supernatural". Another "Suypernatural" finalist is Timothy Omundson, better known as a 3X finalist for Best Comedy Actor for his work on "Psych". Enrico Colantoni "Person of Interest" is back in the finals again after last year being there in the Recurring Actor category. Julian Richings "Supernatural" gets back into the finals after 1st appearing in this categories inagural award in 2011. Lucy Lawless "Agents Of SHIELD" is back in the finals in this category after finishing 3rd in it last year. Stephen Amell "The Flash" also returns after a 7th place finish last year. Grant Gustin "Arrow" also is back after being a finalist last year. Mark Hamill "The Flash" finds himself as a finalist, fresh off his massive 5 second role in Star Wars The Force Awakens. John Noble is a double finalist this year. With his Recurring honour, and his work on "Forever" he gets a spot in this finals too. Ksenia Solo "Lost Girl" is also a double finalist this year. Her Recurring nod, and her Guest Star nod for "Lost Girl", her 5th finals for this show (3 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress, 1 Recurring, 1 Guest). Wil Wheaton "The Big Bang Theory" is back as a finalist after being one for his work on the show in 2012. Robert Knepper "Hawaii Five-0" is back for a 2nd time in the Guest Star category, after being nominated last year for "Arrow" and its his 3rd straight year making at least the semi-finals in this category as he did so in 2013 for "The Blacklist" making him the first ever actor nominated in the same category 3 years in a row for 3 different shows. Rebecca Mader "Once Upon A Time" makes it back to the finals for the first time since 2012 when she did so with her Guest Spot on "Fringe". Sarah Bolger "Once Upon A Time" makes the finals for a 2nd time, last being 2013 as a Recurring Actress. Colin Donnell "Arrow" is back for a 2nd straight year for his work on the show as a Guest Star. Bex Taylor-Klaus the 2014 Best Youth Actress winner, is also back for a 2nd time for her Guest Star work on "Arrow". The 2013 Best Action/Drama Actor winner John Barrowman is in the finals with his work on "The Flash". Bob Newhart "The Big Bang Theory" is in his 2nd consecutive finals for Guest Star. Second and third were newcomers to the finals The 100 and Person of Interest. Other newcomers to the finals that were not there last year include How To Get Away With Murder, Daredevil, iZombie & Greys Anatomy. Not making the finals this year who were there last were Castle, Sherlock, Murdoch Mysteries, Doctor Who, The Flash, The Big Bang Theory. The Favorite TV Character Category is always possibly one of the most sought titles here. This year seems to be no different as 3 finalists got over the 1000 vote mark and another was close. Defending champion Felicity Smoak from "Arrow" finds herself fending off challenges from three "Person Of Interest" challengers (would have been more if it werent for the new rule about a maximum of 3 candidates in a category from any show). Root, aka - Samantha Groves (the 2015 May Madness character winner) led voting barely over her co-star Sameen Shaw. Harold Finch, another POI character finished 4th not far behind. Only 4 people left from the first ever Favorite Character Finals that are eligible, and all 4 of them, for a 4th consecutive year still find themselves in the finals. 3 time winner Dean Winchester, along with his co-star Castiel from "Supernatural", as well as Bo Dennis "Lost Girl" and Richard Castle "Castle" all managed spots in the finals again. With the list expanding from 40 to 55 names this year, there was a lot of newcomers to the finals. Most notably Sameen Shaw in 2nd & Harold Finch in 4th from Person Of Interest. John Diggle from Arrow in 10th is in the finals, at the expense of 3 Arrow characters that made last years finals when there was no cap on finalists from a show. Several shows have finalists who either were not even around last year, or had never managed a finalist prior to now. The 100 with 3, iZombie, Rookie Blue, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt all with 2 each, Agent Carter, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Daredevil, How To Get Away With Murder with 1 each. Missing from the finals this year however from last years list is last years runner up Kenzi from "Lost Girl" probably due to her lack of screen time this year. Sara Lance/Canary from Arrow also missed out due to the maximum candidates rule. Both candidates from the Murdoch Mysteries, William Murdoch & Julie Ogden fell well short in the semi-finals this year, with Ogden finishing last. Sherlock Holmes & John Watson from "Sherlock" of course missed this years due to the shows hiatus. The Best Couple Category is another hotly contested award here every year. For such a pointless award compared to more respectable titles it does garner a lot of very crazy and some very passionate fans. This year has been mired in controversy of course, again, as it is almost every year. But again the "Arrow" combo of Oliver Queen & his now fiance Felicity Smoak (aka "Olicity") led the semi-final voting over the very unstable sort of couple of Root & Shaw (aka "Shoot") from "Person of Interest". Clarke & Lexa (Clexa) from "The 100" were a bit further behind in 3rd. The top 4 finalists from last year all find themselves back in the finals again. Along with Olicity, Castle & Beckett "Caskett", Bo & Lauren "Docubbus" & Emma & Hook "CaptainSwan" all made the finals again. Missing the finals this year are Kenzi & Hale from Lost Girl due to 1 or both characters not being on the show anymore. Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson from "Glee" who seemingly were replaced by another Glee couple it seems. Damon & Elena from "The Vampire Diaries" which was a mild shock to me, but with 1 of the leads having left the show I guess it was out of sight, out of mind for their fans. Barry Allen & Felicity Smoak, yet both characters find themselves in the finals. Besides Shoot & Clexa, there were a few other new additions. barry Allen & Iris West (WestAllen) "The Flash", Robin Hood & Regina Mills (OutlawQueen) "Once Upon A Time" Santana Lopez & Brittany Pierce "Glee". After missing last years finals by 5 votes Amy Farrah Fowler & Sheldon Cooper "ShAmy" from "The Big Bang Theory" find themselves back in after 1 year out of the finals, along with Snow White & Prince Charming from "Once Upon A Time" who also were in 2013 but missed out in 2014. With all 3 former champions in this category, along with a couple new serious contenders, I expect a lot of fanbases ahrd at work trying to push their choices to the top in the finals. On that note, it should be noted that ONE finalist (and 2 others...but on lesser scales) had more than 1 person attempt to purposely cheat in the semi-finals, logging in 1000s of votes by circumventing the IP rule.... but, as those from past years are aware... thats not the only line of defense I use to stop this. Those votes were all discared and ONLY votes for that candidate from other voters were counted. Attempts like that in the finals wont be handled so delicately. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. Voting, and a complete list of nominees in all categories can be found HERE The 2015 Best Of TV Awards are about to start the Finals soon. The 6th annual BOTVA's are still closing out some polls for the run off round before we advance to the finals. We've already shattered the previous record for votes in the first round combined. With over 487,000 votes. The 2015 BOTVA's all time record of 575,000 votes in a year. The Semi-Final rounds for Best Talk Show Host, Writing & Stunts categories took place a couple weeks ago. Here are the complete results (BOLD nominees have qualified for the Finals) Best Talk Show Host ELLEN DEGENERES 475 JIMMY FALLON 304 JON STEWART 151 CONAN O'BRIEN 129 JOHN OLIVER 123 STEPHEN COLBERT 122 David Letterman 103 Trevor Noah 70 Best Writing ARROW 377 PERSON OF INTEREST 242 SUPERNATURAL 195 AGENTS OF SHIELD 184 CASTLE 168 THE 100 114 ONCE UPON A TIME 107 AGENT CARTER 101 DAREDEVIL 98 HANNIBAL 90 LOST GIRL 87 THE BLACKLIST 84 THE BIG BANG THEORY 79 DOCTOR WHO 76 THE WALKING DEAD 72 GAME OF THRONES 71 How To Get Away With Murder 67 Orphan Black 65 Orange Is The New Black 53 iZombie 52 Mr. robot 38 The Goldbergs 31 Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt 30 Modern Family 29 Better Call Saul 16 X Company 15 Best Stunts ARROW 735 PERSON OF INTEREST 484 THE FLASH 276 DAREDEVIL 212 AGENTS OF SHIELD 205 ONCE UPON A TIME 193 LOST GIRL 187 THE WALKING DEAD 158 GAME OF THRONES 152 HAWAII FIVE-0 124 Supernatural 94, Hannibal 78, Doctor Who 54, The Blacklist 40, The Player 25 The Best Talk Show Host category again looks like it will be dominated by Ellen Degeneres.. The only winner of this award in the 3 years of its existence seems poised to take it again. The two time runner up Jimmy Fallon finds himself finishing 2nd again to Ellen in this round. Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien all make the finals for a fourth time, along with John Oliver in his 2nd finals. Last years field had 8 finalists, this year only 6. Former 2X finalists David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel both missed the finals with Kimmel not even making the semi-finals.
The Best Writing Category has most of the same shows that made the inagural awards final round last year. Only Orange Is The New Black and the currently inactive Sherlock did not make it back to this years finals. A few new shows to the finals made the finals this year. Person of Interest and Agents Of SHIELD were strong contenders, both finishing in the top 4 in the semi-finals. Another pack of four newcomers to the finals followed not too much furtner behind, The 100, Once Upon A Time, Agent Carter & Daredevil all made the finals as well. Last years winner, Arrow, is back in the finals as the vote leader in the semi-finals, after a modest 5th place showing in the opening round. In a rare feat, Arrow actually increased its vote total from round 1 where there was no limit to voting, to round 2 where there was a 1 per voting restriction. the two opening round voting goliaths, hannibal & Person of Interest had somewhat different round 2 successes. While both qualified for the finals, POI managed to stick around in 2nd, while Hannibal fell back to 10th. last years runner up, Lost Girl also qualified, but barely, sneaking in down at 11th. The Best Stunts Category also won by Arrow last year looks poised for a possible repeat performance this year. Much like the writing category, almost everyone from last year is back. Only Supernatural didnt make it back to the finals this year, being replaced by newcomer Daredevil. The difference between last year & this year seems to be who the contenders to Arrows title might be. Last years runner ups Lost Girl and the eliminated Supernatural dropped considerably this year, while two also rans in the finals last year Person Of Interest and The Flash find themselves going into the finals as the contenders. The Final round of the 2015 Best Of TV Awards will be under way with some categories soon. Each voting round will last 3 to 6 days.. Voting, and a complete list of nominees in all categories can be found HERE The Winner of the 2014 Best Of TV Award for Best New Program is.... The Flash (CW)
The Flash wins this years Best New Program award, giving The CW their 2nd such honour (2012 - Arrow). With 619 votes The Flash grabbed the lead fairly early & never gave it back. The 292 vote win was the largest in the history of the category. The Comic book adaptation is coincidentally a spin-off of the 2012 winner Arrow. Grant Gustin as "Barry Allen" (aka - "The Flash") stars in the modern day version of the 1990s version of the show that starred John Wesley Shipp, who is a recurring character on this version. Runner up was How To Get Away With Murder with 327 votes. Comfortably ahead of 3rd place finalist Gotham with 227 votes, it had the lead for a short while on day 1 before The Flash took over & never looked back. In 4th is The 100 just behind 3rd place by 4 votes. 5th was Constantine, in 6th was Outlander, in 7th Forever, in 8th Scorpion & in 9th was the critically acclaimed True Detectives. 1st THE FLASH (CW) 619 2nd HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER (ABC) 327 3rd GOTHAM (FOX) 223 4th The 100 (CW) 219 5th Constantine (NBC) 166 6th Outlander (Starz) 122 7th Forever (ABC) 115 8th Scorpion (CBS) 100 9th True Detective (HBO) 98 |
