The 2014 Best Of TV Awards Semi-Finals are now Closed. The Finals for the 5th annual BOTVA's will begin in early 2015. But 1st we need candidates to compete in the finals. There are 8 challengers who made the finals last year that also have made the finals this year. Included in that bunch is last years runner up Benedict Cumberbatch and 3rd place challenger Colin O'Donoghue. Two finalists were not even nominees last year, Tom Hiddleston & Chris Pratt. Last years 4th place finisher, Misha Collins, missed the finals by 11 votes. With 3 different winners in the 3 years of this award, Sexiest Actress might be on the verge of going 4 for 4 if the semi-finals are a sign of what the finals will bring. Despite the strong penalties against Zoie Palmer and Anna Silk for the ineligible vote penalties of the nomination round, both of them managed to finish 1st & 2nd in this category. However, they still will have penalties against them in the finals. At least going into the finals.... they look the the pair to beat for the award. The last 2 Sexiest Actress winners Jennifer Lawrence & Stana Katic are again in the finals in 3rd & 4th. However, the first ever winner Erica Durance, did not make the finals this year. Like the men, 8 of last years finalists made this years finals. The highest ranked finalist last year to not make it this year was Olivia Wilde, as she did not even make the semi-finals this year. The finals for these categories will take place in January 2015 HERE.

The TARDIS from Doctor Who won this round in its 1st ever year of being nominated, despite being on the air throughout the existence of the BOTVA's. Only 2 of last years finalists, The Impala and last years runner up Rumplestiltskin's Dagger made the finals this year. In fact, Bear from Person of Interest is the ONLY other semi-finalist from last year to even make it this year. On the talk show host side. Nothing much changes. Ellen Degeneres again looks poised for a 3rd consecutive title as she handily won the semi-finals, as she has in the previous years. All of last years finalists made this years finals as well. Also making it are newcomer John Oliver, and retiring legend David Letterman, who did not even make the semi-finals last year. Arrow fans did not fail this program, as the sophmore action drama takes the top award in the action/drama category for best show to go along with their Best Actor win. With 751 votes the show about a crime fighting vigilante & his growing band of helpers put an arrow thru the heart of defending 2 time champion "Castle" which came in 2nd with 508 votes. In 3rd was "Criminal Minds" with 352 votes. In 4th was "Elementary". In 5th was "Person of Interest". In 6th was "Breaking Bad". In 7th was "Hawaii Five-O". In 8th was "Grey's Anatomy". Ackles, unfamiliar with losing in these awards got crushed last year after Reedus tweeted to vote for him & The Walking Dead. This year, Jensen managed 669 votes to take the honour. In 2nd was the most active twitter campaigner this year in the category, Eric Balfour "Haven" managed 511 votes. In 3rd was Peter Dinklage "Game Of Thrones" with 422 votes. The fanbase for "Lost Girl" has show over the years here they are a passionate bunch. Constantly contenders for show & actress awards, Finally, they have their 1st major award here, as Zoie Palmer takes the 2013 Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress award. With the 2012 winner Jennifer Morrison missing the finals, and the runner up Anna Torv not eligible for the award, Palmer, 4th in 2012, was suddenly a serious consideration for 2013 & narrowly won, beating out "Game Of Thrones" Emilia Clarke by 3 votes, 505 to 502. In 3rd was Emily Rose "Haven" which I would consider the 2013 break-out show for making an impact here, with 493 votes. In 4th was Lana Parrilla "Once Upon A Time". Probably the most contested award this year, the New Program category eventually found its winner in the rookie drama about con-woman Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) & her clones. The drama drew rave reviews this year & even saw Maslany nominated for major awards for her portrayal of various versions of the same person. Orphan Black won with 433 votes. Runner up, "Hannibal" had 405 votes. In 3rd was "Sleepy Hollow" with 399 votes. In 4th "Almost Human". In 5th "Marvel Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D". In 6th "The Blacklist". In 7th "The Originals". In 8th "The Tomorrow People". In 9th "Under The Dome". In 10th "Dracula". Day 1 had over 40 lead changes. mainly among the top 4, but The Originals & Agents of SHIELD also held the lead on day 1. Day 2 was Sleepy Hollow & Hannibal with the leads. Day 3 was Orphan Black & Sleepy Hollow. Day 4 saw all 3 of the top 3 lead again. Day 5 was Hannibal & Orphan Black. Day 6 saw Orphan Black open a small lead & never relinquished the lead again, but did get down to as low as 5 vote lead on the final day before a final push to close it out strong.
