The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes on Thursday & Friday nights, which went well into Friday & Saturday mornings in downtown Vancouver this week. On top of that, I also caught them out at Central Park in Burnaby back on Tuesday for a scene there, that I did not see, but saw who was on set. The outdoor scene in the middle of the forest in Central Park had 2 actors on set, along with director Danielle Panabaker. Those actors being Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, and the return of Arrow star Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen. The photos below are of them in their wardrobe for the scene, and not their personal wear. When the cast & crew got to downtown Vancouver 2 nights later, they were met by substantially more onlookers, and substantially more rain. This was 1 of the wettest sets I have been to in a long time. The set, at the Vancouver Art Gallery, was surrounded by fencing (a thing them, and them only have done the past couple times they have filmed at this location). On set for this, along with Danielle as director, were Grant as The Flash, Stephen as The Green Arrow, along with the other 3 announced returning guest stars for this episode, Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West /Kid Flash, David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso/ Bloodwork. I got there early enough to see rehearsals done, and in 1 scene saw Diggle holding a bazooka. But I never saw him USE it in any of the scenes I saw shot (he may have, and it was out of view of the parts I could see.) The scenes on the Thursday night shoot had all 5 of them on set at different periods, in different combinations. I am unsure if all 5 were in 1 scene together, as the way scenes are shot, doesnt always tell that in person. But the way it played out, I BELIEVE this is all part of the same scene. At one point, a scene with Spartan & Green Arrow had Spartan speed walk up to GA & hug him, as if this was the 1st time they had seen each other since Crisis. Immediately after that, the pair would go off screen, and Kid Flash & Flash would come in, do a scene where the pair were seemingly pulling on some type of rope, or other item that can be pulled. Barry then yells out to Oliver that he has a clear shot now. A bit later, there was a scene with Arrow, Flash & Kid Flash standing together in a line (unclear if Diggle was also there, due to equipment impeding parts of the scene). It is unclear what the scene entailed, as they eventually all moved out of my view shortly after. Another scene on the night that was done, is 1 everybody is probably waiting for. The Green Arrow perched on top of a truck, yells out with quite some force "Ramsey Rosso, You Have Failed This City" as he aims his bow, and shoots in to the distance. Later on, they had Stephen and David out on set doing a scene, in it they had Sendhil raised a few feet into the air as Ramsey Rosso. I dont know the full context of it. Thats just what I know was happening. At one point, late in the night, David, Grant, Danielle, and Stephen posed together for a photo (unsure whose phone it was on, but I am sure 1 of them will post it on social media in the not too distant future). I missed that shot, but another photgrapher that was there, was generous enough to lend me 1 of his frames of it. Late in the eevening, myself, and a couple other fans managed to get Keiynan to stop & sign some autographs, and take a photo. It was raining harder then than maybe any other point in the evening. Fortunately, my umbrella did its job & kept them dry. Not long after that, I called it a night, and went home to recoup for the next day. On the 2nd night, they returned to the same location to film more scenes. On this night, I saw far less than the night before. Partially because of where they shot in the courtyard, and partially because of fans the night before ruining the best spot. I had crew tell me on multiple occasions throughout the night, that the reason that 1 of the streets was all blocked off with scrims (the large black tarps they use primarily for lighting, but sometimes privacy) was to stop fans from congrgating there, as the night before they were a constant nuisance to the people working in the tents that were right beside there with all their chatter.
So that misfortune, combined with my physical exhaustion & soreness from the night before, saw me far less motivated on night two. I spent a good chunk of it doing a Live Chat where fans got to see me wish Grant a Happy Birthday in real time near the end of the stream, and socializing with others that came out to the set. Before they started filming, Grant stopped to sign some autographs for myself, and one of the other regulars. He then stopped again later to do photos with people when he wrapped. The early part of the night had Grant, Keiynan, Sendhil, and Stephen on set (I actually never saw David all night, even though his trailer appeared to be in use). For the mostpart, I wasnt able to see a lot, just that most of the action seemed to take place around a towncar. At one point they did a scene with The Flash & Green Arrow seemingly getting up from the ground, but that was really all I could see of the scenes before their lunch break. After lunch, the only scene I saw shot was a stunt scene I had seen breifly being practiced 2 days before, with a bunch of men in SWAT gear attacking the Green Arrow, and he kicking their asses. I called this second night a bit earlier than the first night due to how sore I was after that 1st night, and the fact there seemed to be very little cast left. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. THE FLASH season 7 filming with Grant Gustin & a Notable spoiler returning character ( or two?)11/16/2020 THIS BLOG POST IS FOR A "THE FLASH" SEASON 7 (either episode 4, or 5. I believe its 4, but I can not confirm it), AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . PLEASE NOTE - Photo limits are in place for website use/social media posts. PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF FAMILIAR WITH THE NEW GUIDELINES POSTED HERE. I will not be responsible for your ignorance. If I file a takedown notice on you, it really is on you for not educating yourself. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. The Flash was on location for season 7 shooting on Friday under neath the Cambie Bridge, just a couple blocks from where my last set report for The Flash came from. On this night, they were filming a scene in a corner of a park that they had made to look more like a parking lot (which I find a little funny, in that you'd think they coulda just rented a parking lot to look like a parking lot). The crew was being more active than usual at trying to minimize views for passer bys. It was in a busy residential area, and path way for bicyclists & people out for walks, as it was less than 100 metres from a creek that people often walk along in the city. As the night went on, it became pretty clear they were trying a little harder to try and block me. To be fair, I was probably the only one there through most of the night actually with any type of device larger than a cell phone. The first scene I saw shot had Grant Gustin as The Flash doing a scene with a returning guest star from a few seasons ago. David Dastmalchian was back as Abra Kadabra. As Pursuit23 had stated 2 weeks earlier on twitter, David was back in Vancouver, and the timing of his arrival, and the mandatory 14 day quarantine just happened to line up with this episodes filming. The scene had The Flash laying on the ground at one point, before getting up, yelling "What have you done?" at Abra Kadabra before doing his patented lightning throw move. Whether or not he hits Abra Kadabra is unknown, as the way the production had the area covered only gave partial looks at the scene. A bit later they did a portion of the scene that I feel comes before that based on where Grant & David were standing, where Abra Kadabra seems to be using his wand to do something. A bit later, they did a scene (that I only got to see a rehearsal for before I was asked to move from where I was) where a large person standing on stilts, and wearing a massive foam tube shaped hat (last season I called him "tall Abraham Lincoln" because of his hat in a post) on his head. I have only seen them use this set up 1 other time on set. Last season, to stand in for the shape of Bloodwork. When they are doing large CGI built creatures like that, they need a reference point for the actor to look for, so they usually get someone to wear something extra long on their head to give the actor that point. So he COULD possibly be another large character, but since I have not seen them use this specific design, right down to the costume he had on for any other characters, I FEEL it could be the return of Bloodwork.... but I do NOT know that to be a certainty. In this scene, it simply had this massive character seemingly grabbing The Flash in some sort of bear hug move, before letting him go. It did not seem like a long scene. But the actor playing that character did seem to stick around for the later scene, but I could not see from the vantage point I finally had when filming started, if/how, he might have been used in the scene. The final scenes of the night, had Cody Laudan (Grants stunt double) filling in as The Flash for scenes where Grants face and voice were not needed since the camera focused on Abra Kadabra. In early rehearsals, it seemed tall Abe Lincoln was behind Abra Kadabra by like 10-20 metres, but I never saw if during the actual filming of the scene he was still there. They had 1 other scene, that I dont really know what it was, as I saw no apparent action happening in it. But it had tall Abe and The Flash standing a couple feet apart, with The Flash on a pile of milk crates to be close to the height of tall Abe. The one last scene they shot for the night was again Cody doing a small stunt where he jumps off a pile of milk crates (no sign of Abe around for it), and lands in what appeared to be a bag of some type (it was flat on the ground, so it could have just been a mat, but it seemed to have more shape to it than that). Right after that, they wrapped for the night. Before they left, I went and tried to get a couple of close up shots of some posts they had out there, because they had decorated them with some seemingly fake looking music posters. The band names I was able to make out were "Second Unit", and "Sickada". There were a couple more, but I didnt realize till I got him that the shots I got of them were not good. I also got 1 other photo of something, which I am not posting till I can find out if it is okay with someone else to post. No big spoiler, just an interesting observation. But I am going to wait till I hear back from someone first before I post that. It is a VERY rare occurrence on a Friday night to wrap early enough for me to be home by Midnight, as most Friday shoots often go till 2,3,4,5 AM. There will be some video from this nights shoot to post in the next week or 2, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. UPDATE: Decemeber 13, 2020 - Video from that nights shoot has now been added below. The Flash season 7 will air Tuesday nights on The CW in the U.S. starting February 23, 2021. All other rules still apply. UPDATE: NOVEMBER 22, 2019 - Details on the actress & character in the final scene have been added. The Flash was on location for the 8th episode of the season on Wednesday at B.C. Place, and Thursday & Friday nights, into Friday & Saturday mornings at Melville & Thurlow in downtown Vancouver. The first of those nights, the cast & crew of The Flash found themselves at B.C. Place Stadium. For those unfamiliar with the shows regular locations, this is where they go for exterior shots of S.T.A.R Labs. This night they had the set up further down the concourse than they usually use. Setting up on the west side of the building, as opposed to the east side, or the North West main concourse, as they have many times before. After some recent changes to the area in the past few years, that side is no longer accessible from the back end (the stadium used to just have a complete encompassing concourse that you could walk all the way around.... but now, the majority of the West & south west part of it is gone), so the only way to catch the filming in this area was either working in 1 of the offices that overlooked it, or, as me & 3 or 4 other fans that night did, go into Boston Pizza, and watch through their windows.... which even with that, was limited to just a few panes on the top floor. Because of this complicated set up, I did not stay too long that night, but I was there long enough to see they had Grant Gustin as The Flash and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Dr. Ramsey Rosso/ Bloodwork out there filming a scene where the pair are walking together up towards S.T.A.R. Labs. The pair did not seem to be in any type of conflict with each other, and it wasnt till after the fact when I was home and could see what I shot on a larger screen I noticed the details on Barrys suit (which you can see a bit better in the upcoming pics in this set... but this first set it is a bit tough to really tell), he has black marks on his logo, his gold ear wings, belt, and dark black fingertips. After they shot that scene, there seemed to be a long break, and so I left, as it was probably going to drag out for awhile, and I had another set that I thought might have better stuff to do that night to get to. What is happening to Barry? Is Bloodwork doing it? On Thursday night The Flash moved their unit a couple miles across downtown Vancouver to a block I have been to many a film set for, but not at the location they were shooting. Melville Street was home to a several story large building & parking lot that many shows used until just as recently as last season, but is now just a crater as something new is clearly being planned for that spot. On this night, the cast & crew were about 1/2 a block east of there in a little courtyard in front of a variety of small businesses that share the corner. The main scene of the evening had an unknown actor in The Flash suit taking the place of Grant Gustin who was off working cross over duty with several others on a different show. The Flash stand in did a scene with Sendhil in full Bloodwork make up, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, and later in the evening a scene was done with Danielle Panabaker in full Killer Frost attire. Each of the cast there had doubles on set too, but I rarely saw them working except for Grants, and at times the one for Cisco. The night was an all too quick reminder that summer is officially over, as strong winds that night brought the temperature down into the lower single digits celsius. The winds were so strong at points that equipment was knocked over a few times. I actually wondered if there was any point where they considered cancelling the rest of the night. As I said on the night one photos, you can see the details on The Flash suit a lot better here. With the Bloodwork dark vein look all over his logo, and gold trimmings. In the scene with the 3 of them, Cisco comes in with a gun (all the photos I got of that were out of focus, just something about the angle I had, and the light off the gun did not work for my camera), yells at Bloodwork, using the characters name, and then shoots the gun at the villain, causing him to fall to the ground. The Flash then zips over, grabs Cisco and pulls him over to Bloodwork. The trio then were crouched down too low to really see what was going on. At the lunch break Sendhil and Danielle, stopped to take photos and sign autographs for fans before heading off to eat. After lunch, Danielle did a scene that I think she was the only main cast on set for. All I can tell you about it is a lot of extras were running, and she runs in to the middle of the scene then vanished out of my view. Again, like the first night. I left before they wrapped. This time, because of the unexpectedly cold night from the strong wind. On night 3 the cast seemed to be back down to just Grant & Sendhil for the entire night. A woman I had never seen before worked with Sendhil later. More on that down below. The evening started off slow, a scene of The Flash zipping in front of a green screen was done, then a looooong break happened. When I came back to the set from working a different event, they had moved from the court yard out onto the street. When I first got there I instantly noticed a man that for the rest of the evening I referred to as "tall Abraham Lincoln" out there standing on stilts. While I never heard specifically what he was a stand in for, its a fair assumption (I hate assuming in posts on my site, but this seems like a safe time to do it) to think this is a stand in for Bloodwork when he is in full Bloodwork mode. The thing I noticed during the scene they shot with tall Abe was The Flash no longer had black marks all over his suit. Did The Flash finally break the control Bloodwork had over him? Or is this a scene from before it happens? The scene seemed to have The Flash using his speed to punch tall Abe all over. A bit later, they did a scene where it seems tall Abe gets the upper hand, as The Flash is thrown into a vehicle (obviously they had Cody Laudan do that part), and the impact of it completely causes the vehicle to be crushed. Then Grant came back in, to be The Flash seemingly being held by some type of force against the vehicle, having trouble moving off the vehicle. After Grant wrapped that scene, they did a scene with Sendhil and Meera Simhan. The scene had Ramsey in the middle of the street, clothes torn, looking angry, making a motion like he is about to hit someone, when he stops, to look at someone behind him. Its his mother. He then turns around, and a conversation happens between his mom and him. She moves towards him and gently puts her hands on his face and they share a couple moments interacting. In this scene there are no dark veins on Ramsey, he seems to be calmed down. Is his mom how The Flash & the team end up beating Bloodwork? In the season 6 promo where they introduce Bloodwork to everyone, they show him standing over his mothers grave. How does she return? The Flash will start shooting their portion of Crisis On Infinite Earths next week, someone I know on set was told Tuesday, and that about lines up with what I had down as their projected start date for it. Other shows are already on their portion of the Crisis episode. So you should check out my COIE blog section for posts on filming for that when I finally catch up to them. There could be scenes on other shows that pertain to Flash characters that wont be found in The Flash blog section. So keep up to date on them HERE EDIT - 12:40 PM - September 29, 2019 - video added at the bottom from rehearsals of 1 scene, and shooting another scene. The Flash was on location for the 7th episode of the season on Thursday in downtown Vancouver. The episode is being directed by Chad Lowe. This location was literally the laneway over from where they shot last week. This dtime though, it was a night time scene. Also, the cast was a bit different for this shoot. Hartley Sawyer as Elongated Man, Danielle Panabaker as Killer Frost and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso, or maybe even Bloodwork as you will see below. When the cast showed up, fans wished Danielle Panabaker a Happy Birthday which brought a huge smile out across her face. Sendhil tried VERY HARD to keep his make up job hidden, but dumb luck was on my side, and I just happened to not be where everyone else was when and had a partial view of his face. As you can see in the photos below, he looked far different than he did in the daytime photos on this previous set last week. The first scene had Elongated Man and Ramsey/Bloodwork in a major fight battle. Both characters at different points seemed to have the upper hand. But eventually, Ramsey/Bloodwork gets the permanent upper hand with some action that seemed like he was doing a hand motion suggesting he was controlling Elongated Man in some way, before EM falls to the ground.... then Bloodwork is "knocked away". A bit later, Killer Frost finally came in to replace Bloodwork on set for a scene. The scene has Killer Frost rush up to Elongated Man as he laid on the ground after his big fight, looking to be in serious peril, and the reaction of Killer Frosts body language SEEMED like she was suggesting he wasn't doing well, and maybe even didnt survive. Would The Flash actually write out a major character just before Crisis??? Seems pretty unlikely. The last scene of the evening had Elongated Man & Bloodwork competing again.... but I didnt take any photos of it. When the evening ended, Danielle came out, at 2 AM, after a day on set in a pretty cold night compared to what we have had lately, and, after having to work on her Birthday, carrying 2 containers of flowers from the cast, and walkking Eliot, and stopped to meet with all the fans. I dont usually point out things like this too much, but it really impressed me the effort she takes to keep fans for the show. Not to be outdone, Hartley stopped on two different occasions through out the evening for lengthy meet & greets. Right now, I would call these two the best ambassadors the show has. No disrespect to Grant or Tom, but these two go above & beyond. AGAIN, REMINDER - Please adhere to the photo limits in the blog post posted linked in the red text paragraph above. The episode is being directed by Chad Lowe. On set during the daytime scenes were Grant Gustin as both Barry Allen, and The Flash, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Dr. Ramsey Rosso, Grants stunt double Cody Laudan as The Flash at some points, and an actress that was playing the victim of a car accident. There was also a stand in for Barry Allen when the camera isnt focused on him, I do not know that actors name at this time. The scene I saw shot really makes almost no sense to me yet. In the early scene Grant was dressed as Barry, and he was standing with Sendhil, as Ramsey. They were staring at a car crash, when suddenly The Flash zips in, and treats a woman at the crash. Barry moves closer to investigate this apparent version of The Flash that he sees there, but it doesnt seem like he interacts with him in any way. Just stares at him as he crouches down near him. Is Bloodwork responsible for this? Why are Barry & Ramsey seemingly chummy still in episode 7? A bit later, it was time for Grant to be dressed up as The Flash. During that scene, we see him zip in, and treat the woman at the crash. At one point he takes his glove off, and seems to place his hand on her, and moments later, the woman comes to. All while Barry & Ramsey look on. This is of course the first on set in public shots of Grant in the new season 6 suit. It was also the first on set look at Sendhil as Dr. Ramsey Rosso on set. They are still filming more today, but I felt that you all would want to see these first on set public photos of Grant & Sendhil on set together. I also dabbled a few times in here with a new watermark font. Let me know if you like it, or the original one.
