I actually started on Monday with this set, as it was posted by someone there was a film set at the Vancouver Art Gallery, which is just a few minutes walk from my house. When I got there, I quickly realized it was just set up for the next day. I saw some clear signs immediately it was going to be for The Flash, and sure enough when I got to the courtyard they filmed in, saw two KORD Industries items in there. Of course, I was going to have to wait till the next day to find out what it all meant. Director for this episode is Vanessa Parise (director of 8x14 "Funeral For A Friend"). On set for these scenes were Grant Gustin as The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West Allen, as well as new addition to the cast, former Continuum, & The 100 actor Richard Harmon, as the Owen Mercer version of Captain Boomerang. When I first got there, the scenes had The Flash standing up on a platform, raised up above the people on the ground. Beside him was a big object, that I later learned was called the "Roemer Accelerator". KORD Industry vehicles can be seen around the set, it appears the device was being transported somewhere, and somehow was prevented from continuing on. The Flash walks over to the device, puts his hands on it, as if to try and stabilize it, eventually seeming to succeed. He then looks down at the ground, where Iris is staring up at him. He then gets off the platform, walks over to her, gives her a hug, and the pair look up at the object. After that, a new person was put up on the raised platform. This time it was Richard as Captain Boomerang. He was standing near the accelerator, at times touching it, but also focusing on The Flash, who was down below with Iris. Captain Boomerangs reason for wanting this device, seems to have something to do with its battery, as he can be seen taking it out of the machine at one point (or putting it in... but I think hes removing it). Last scene before their lunch break had Barry & Iris again on set, seemingly moving towards Captain Boomerang, as Iris was carrying a large gun that has been used on the show in the past (I dont remember if it has a specific name, but I am sure you all do). In 1 take, I noticed Barry put his hand up to his hear like he was getting a message from someone back at S.T.A.R. Labs, but I never noticed it in other takes. So not sure if I just never noticed it before, or if it was an improved take. After the lunch break, it was back to work for Richard & Grant, as Candice left for the day. The scenes continued to have 1 or the other up on the platform. But then at 1 point I noticed in 1 take Boomerang takes out a boomerang and throws it towards Barry. So I went found a different spot, and was able to get a set of photos from the front end of Boomerang throwing them, before the area was cleared out. The pair continued to do parts of this scene for the rest of the day, before the crew & cast wrapped for the day. The last photo in the set is NOT part of the set. It was taped onto the side of 1 of their work carts, and I thought it was interesting. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes earlier this week in downtown Vancouver for 3 nights. This blog post is just for the 1st two nights. This was for the season 8 finale, episode 820. The production closed down 1 whole block in front of our hockey arena, Rogers Arena. Along with that, at other points of the shoot, they had a couple other roads completely blocked off to traffic & pedestrians. On Wednesday night, in continual rain, the cast & crew shot scenes with Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Tom Cavanagh as some version of Eobard Thawne (he was referred to as "NRF" on a storyboard I happened to see for 1 of the scenes). In the scene, the 2 are having an altercation in a parking lot, when Barry seems to get frozen, as if he is in Flashtime, and Thoawne walks around him acting all boastful, a Police Car zips in during in (why it wasnt also frozen.... thats for the writers to explain) and Thawne blows it up. All the while, Barry is frozen still in a defensive pose. I also saw 1 scene they did a couple takes of where Barry just comes running into the parking lot from the street, and that was about all there was on that night that I saw. On Thursday night I got down the set a little later than the night before, knowing this time it was going to be a full night shoot. When I got there, it was clear they were planning to do a different stunt at some point, as they had a crane set up to lift someone in the sky. For the 1st couple hours, nothing much happened, except getting the stunt team prepped to do a stunt. At 1 point they did a stunt where the doubles for Flash & Thawne are thrown into the air in opposite directions (I missed it somehow, but you can find it on twitter HERE.). I saw them working on 1 stunt where they were raising the Thawne double high into the air. Unfortunately, a random lightning strike paused their work on that stunt, and the whole production shut down for about 45-60 minutes while they waited to make sure there was not more troublesome weather. By they time they were getting ready to work again, I had gotten tired, cold, and sore enough to consider leaving, and had decided next train I saw coming in, I was taking it. While I was waiting, they called 1st team rehearsals, which I thought was odd, since it was clearly the stunt team working last I saw. Instead of just stunts now though, they had cast on set. Grant Gustin was laying down in the middle of the road, he had his rain gear on over his costume, so there was no identifying markings it was him, except the gold boots. At 1st I thought it might be him because I thought I saw gold boots. But when I looked at the person laying on the ground, I couldnt see any of the boots, and assumed it was a random Cop from the blown up CCPD car maybe because of the all black outfit he was wearing. I was again, about to leave, when I saw something I wasnt expecting to see. A man in blue pants, red jacket, wearing a big metal brimmed hat go running into the street with a woman. I grabbed my binoculars again, looked and confirmed what I thought I was seeing, it was John Wesley Shipp & Candice Patton. Suddenly I realized that WAS Grant in the middle of the road, and I hurried over to a better spot to start shooting. They packed a lot of parts of scenes into the time I was there, trying to make up for the hour they had to shut down. Inside the parking lot, they had Thawne looking all menacing facing Barry, while Iris & Jay Garrick were standing 15 feet away from them. Iris yells "Flash, you have to stop". Iris holding her head at times. Next they are out on the street. Out there Iris & Jay find Barry, on the ground, just starting to get up. Barry & Iris hug for a long period, before Jay rushes Iris out of there after Barry says something to them. They then had 3 speedsters join Barry, Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Jordan Fisher as Impulse, and Kausar Mohammed as Fast Track, with a new cowl, joined the Scarlet Speedster. Barrys kids rush over to hug their dad, as Fast Track stands near by. They then have their moment broken up by something in the sky that they all turn to look up at. A bit later, they finally did the stunt with the Thawne double high in the air. Barry is sitting on the ground, against the building and is yelling at him while Thawne is making lots of "aggghhh" type sounds with his arms stretched out. At 2 points, he makes a clap, before going back into the arms stretched out point. aaaannd that was it for these 2 nights in the parking lot. There was 1 more location shoot the next night, that I will have a blog up for in the next couple days. This is part 1 of their 5 part cross over event titled "Armageddon", and it is being directed by Eric Dean Seaton. After not being able to find them anywhere in their 1st week back to filming this upcoming season. I have found them twice now in the last week. Unlike my first report HERE, there was a lot to report on for this set... This time, Grant Gustin as The Flash was on set, with his stunt double Cody Laudan doing the big stunts. With him was the recently announced returning Arrowverse star Brandon Routh as The ATOM. Candice Patton as Iris West Allen, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk were also on set from The Flash cast. Joining them all, was the recently announced villain for the cross over, Tony Curran as Despero. The day started with them doing a stunt of The Flash getting thrown across the spacious sidewalk into a crushed up Central City Taxi. The scenes seemed to be taking place outside the Central City Technology Conference. At one point I overheard the crew discussing an upcoming scene, and it was to have The Flash getting thrown through a window of the convention, out to the ground where we see the scene being shot. After the stunts ended, they brought out the cast to film a large scene that had Grant take over from where Cody finished his stunt, huddled up in a pile at the side of the taxi. The Flash turns and looks up high, where Tony was standing on a ladder. Dialogue is exchanged, before Despero raises his hand in the air as if he was about to do something menacing, when a sparking sound can be heard, Despero disappears, and The ATOM arrives. He goes over to where The Flash is just starting to lift himself up off the ground, and the pair have a few words, before Chester & Iris come to join them. The pair are both wearing press passes for the conference. So were they there just by coincidence, or did they know trouble was brewing, and went there because of it? The group of 4 then have a conversation that goes on for maybe 30 seconds, before the scene wraps. Later, they had a scene, again where Cody starts the scene, this time, throwing himself across the sidewalk, then Grant would come in and take over. Again, The ATOM shows up, and this SEEMS to be perhaps the first time the pair have seen each other in the cross over, as The ATOM makes a comment about it seems his suit still fits (which is really fucking stupid, because Felicity Smoak once fit in the suit, so it seems the suit will fit whatever physical needs are required), and the two heroes fist bump each other, before turning their attention on the threat. They focus on 1 direction, before you hear Iris yell at them asking "who are they firing at?", then Chester pipes up "yeah, hes behind you", which makes the heroes turn around, and face the direction where Despero is. A bit later, while some of the cast were wrapping up their day, they did a scene with Grant doing a running jump & punch scene. After that, he wrapped, and they finished off the day with Tony wearing a camera on his head for close up shots of him doing his Despero scenes. At points in the day, they had a cardboard cut out of the Despero character from the shoulders up, out as a reference point for the actors to look at when Tony wasnt there. Others who have reported on these photos already have pointed out, the same thing I will now. This might not be the completed look. It is likely from pre-production concept art. But there is 1 photo at the end of the set showing what they had. The Flash season 8 will begin November 16 with their 5 event semi-crossover event on The CW in the U.S. Or on their app the next day. The Flash was on location for the probable season 8 premiere (I dont know for certain, but based on the amount of filming days, it SHOULD be). After not being able to find them anywhere in their 1st week back to filming this upcoming season. I finally found them doing a shoot that was, unfortunately, all indoors. But, we got our first confirmation they were out working. I have nothing much to report except that this set had Candice Patton as Iris West Allen, and Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia working at the set. What you see here is all there was to see, photos of them leaving rehearsals, then photos of them returning to set in their wardrobe. I know its not a lot to go on yet, but never the less, this is our 1st Season 8 set. This location has been used a few times in the past. Most recently that I recall, in season 6 when Ralph & Barry were staking out the "Midway City Art Pavilion". It is also the 1st location we are ever introduced to Barry Allen, when he 1st premiered on Arrow at the train station arriving in Starling City. There was no signage around to tell if today it was in Central City, or if they were outside the city again. This time however, they were filming on the outside of the building, as opposed to the last time when I could only see snippets of what was going on through the frosted glass on the windows. This episode is being directed by Philip Chipera, in his 4th gig with the show (he was the director of last years unexpected season finale episode, and 2 in 2018). On this day, they were shooting scenes in front of the Westin Bayshore Hotel, which was made this time to look like a place called the "La Salle Building". Why were they there? Who knows. But they shot a couple different sets of scenes there. The first scene was a stunt scene (I didnt stay around for it as I was working 2 sets just a few blocks apart from each other at the same time) with Cody Laudan in The Flash attire. When I returned a couple hours later, Grant Gustin was then on set as The Flash. The scene had The Flash seemingly unable to move forward, before moving backwards. Then a person who I had seen on set 2 months earlier, started walking towards where The Flash just was, before stopping and wiping his hands against each other in that "mission accomplished" way people do that. That character is Psych, played by Ennis Esmer. With a daytime scene, I was able to get much more clear, and detailed photos of the Psych outfit. You can now see more of the details in his mask, and that he seems to wear purple gloves as well. That was then the end of their scene, and the next set was getting set up. In the later scene, Candice Patton was there as Iris West Allen, along with Victoria Park as Kamilla Hwang, and Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, to shoot a scene of the trio seemingly working as "Team Citizen" for the blog Iris started up, the Central City Citizen. In the scene, the trio walk towards a limo that is pulling up at the front doors of the building. A well dressed woman is there, and Team Citizen stop to talk to the woman, and Kamilla seems to show her something that seems to maybe be on a phone. The woman walks away from them, and is then confronted by Psych. The woman & Psych have a conversation that at times seems friendly, but then in the end Psych does something to cause the mystery woman to crumble to the ground, much like The Flash did a couple months earlier when I saw them at a different set. Then they did a cut where Iris is suddenly 20-30 feet closer to where the woman & Psych were, from where she was. They had a bit more time to shoot that day, but I didnt see any sign that anything substantially different might be getting filmed, so I called it a day. There will be some video from this nights shoot to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash was on location for season 7 shooting at B.C. Place Stadium (better know as the exterior for S.T.A.R. Labs) on Thursday & Friday nights. This is part 2 of this 2 night set. You can find my 1st part blog HERE. On this second night. A lot happened, so I split it into 2 posts. This portion of the blog will focus on the later scenes. Which adds more context into the first part sets cliff hanger. As well, as show another scene that was shot late at night with some additions to the scene. The early part of the night was committed to continuing on from the other nights scene which seemed to mostly consist of a battle between Grant Gustin as The Flash and Efrat Dor as Eva McCulloch / Mirror Master / Mirror Mistress. As I stated in the other blog, Candice Patton joined this scene on the 2nd night to do a scene where she can be seen holding hands with Eva, and even consoling her. As I also said in that post, you can just barely see The Flash reaching out towards Eva, but what was his plan? Well, his plan was.... to join her. To hold hands with her. The trio stood on the steps together looking out at something. What were they looking at? What had these former foes seemingly teaming up? It appears a plethora of Mirror Mistress clones. As there was somewhere in the range of 6 to 8 actresses running around dressed like Eva shooting their arm cannons at a variety of background who were running around in a panic. In the background, a car was burning while this all went on. Does the new trio team win this battle? It seems so. While we never see them fight them in any way other than to hold hands and stare towards them, eventually they act like they won, and it is over. There was also a scene shot that I did not have photos of, but I do have a video clip that I will post in the next week or so, where you see a couple of these Mirror Mistress clones with their arm cannons pointed at The Flash, who is kneeling on the ground between the pair. Eventually they leave as Eva takes over. That scene SEEMS to be immediately before Iris comes over to Eva. But I can not 100% confirm the airing order of those scenes. The late night scene, that happened after their midnight lunch break saw the same trio there, now joined by 2 additional characters. Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon (or is he.... VIBE??) and Danielle Panabaker in her 1st public shoot since becoming a new mom in real life, as Killer Frost join the trio on the stair case. Cisco pulls off his Vibe looking glasses as the group looks out towards the scene unfolding in front of them. The way they were lined up looks like any photo from a promo shot of a cast I have ever seen. Is Eva joining Team Flash as a regular? Or is this her farewell redemption arc, like Marlize Devoe a couple seasons ago?
Through out the 2 nights, they frequently would shoot their big reaction full view scenes on the staircase facing the street. But for the more close up takes, would move back into the plaza more, and film them while they were standing sideways from the street, probably due to the fact it would be unsafe for them to set up so close to the stairs to do these shots, thus why a few shots it seems like I am "behind/to the side" of them for what seems like the same scene. There will be plenty of video from these 2 nights to post in the next week or so, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash was on location for season 7 shooting at B.C. Place Stadium (better known as the exterior location of S.T.A.R. Labs) for a couple nights. The first night, they shot some scenes up on a stair case that some Arrow fans would recognize from a scene Oliver & Felicity did in season 3 (in the daytime though, and before major changes to the surrounding area), as well on the platform outside the stadiums gate there. These scenes seemed to consist of Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Efrat Dor as Eva McCulloch / Mirror Mistress. Very little of the scene could be seen for most of the night, but at one point I did see part of a scene being done where Eva seemed to be looking in 1 direction, then they had Grant move to the other side of her, and her turn around and look in that direction. They had more shooting to do that night, later on. But I went home when they had their lunch break INTENDING to come back in 90 minutes.... but instead I fell asleep and didnt wake up till the next day. So thats all I have to report from the first night... which is kind of a blessing, because the 2nd night was so big, I need to break it into 2 blogs. I do not know if any other cast worked that night, as I said, there was not a lot to see for most of the evening. Something I saw the 2nd night makes me think there could have been other cast on set the 1st night, but were positioned in a way that I never could see them. The second night, I saw much more going on..... although early on, there was not a lot to see.
All I knew early on was that Grant and Efrat were both on set again, along with Candice Patton as Iris West Allen, as well as at least 1 (as it turned out more than 1) person dressed in the same attire as Mirror Mistress. With Iris there in the same place as The Flash & Eva, this confirms that by this episode, Iris escapes the Mirrorverse. How, and when? That is something you will have to wait & see, as I did not see anything on these nights to suggest how it happened. The scene seemed to be very long, and dialogue heavy, as Eva stood facing away from me for quite a while, before eventually turning around, looking around with a very serious & solemn look. She then raises her arms, and Iris comes over and joins her. Grabbing her hand, and looking at Eva with a look of assurance. A bit later, a little more of the scene unfolded, and we see The Flash reaching out towards Eva. What is his plan? PART 2 blog with some spoilers is HERE. As well, in a week or so, there will probably be some video from these scenes up on my youtube channel. I will post those down below when they are ready as well. So check back in a few days for that.
