The Flash was on location for season 7 shooting on Wednesday in 3 different spots around downtown Vancouver. In the morning, and early afternoon, they were shooting in the conference centre part of the Bayshore Hotel, near Stanley Park. Because of the position of some of the cranes, and the part they were actually in, there was almost nothing to see from this location. Only details I can pass along is, the scene had a bunch of blinking strobe lights going on, and Grant Gustin was on set as The Flash. I also briefly saw Carlos Valdes as he left at the end of the shoot, but never saw him in the scene. I know 1 of the two Danielles was on set, as I heard them reference her wrapping, but I dont know if it was Danielle Panabaker, or Danielle Nicolet. At one point as many as 6 different cast style transportation vehicles were waiting around, so there could have been more. The set up there, left it a bit of a challenge to figure out much of anything. I saw Grant on a break, and as he was leaving. Besides that, I saw him inside for brief moments through a small break between the equipment, trees, and frosted glass. I also saw an unknown guy being led by a crew member back to set all covered up. So I added 1 photo of him in there too, in case he turns out to be something, but he could just be a background character... but they rarely escort background to & from sets. The one detail from the shoot that DID catch my attention is.... what is The Flash wearing on the front of his head in the 1st photo? Is this the same device he had on when he was trying to prevent Grodd from controlling him. They would wrap this location around 3 PMish, and move across the downtown core to two other locations they would shoot night scenes for. For the evening shoots. There was two different sets going on at the exact same time. I walked by the B.C. Place set 1st, but it didnt look like they were close to starting, so I went to check out the other location at the Vancouver Public Library. At that location, they were already under way... or at least further along in their process. They had Cody Laudan out there in The Flash costume getting ready to do a stunt as The Flash where he gets thrown across the grounds. After they did this short stunt, the team took a while to set up for the next take, so I went back to the other set. On that set, I had to laugh that they covered up 1 real construction crews banners, with their own for "Central Construction". Outside B.C. Place Stadium (aka - the exterior location for S.T.A.R. Labs ) the crew worked on scene out on the sidewalk part, far enough away from the stadium that its probably not playing into this scene. The first thing I saw there when I got there was a guy in a wardrobe jacket being led away from the set. At first glance (which was short, and from quite a distance.... I actually thought it was 1 of the Samuroids from season 4 at first glance, till I looked at my camera after. After seeing this mystery character, I waited around for him to return..... only to keep getting teased with him walking to & from set with the jacket covering him, but not actually shooting. While he was off, they filmed a scene with a single actress walking along on the phone with a coffee, wearing a Jitters shirt. She clearly sees this mystery character, screams, drops her coffee, and runs away. Finally, a bit later, they did a scene with the mystery character. Imagine my surprise when after not having a wardrobe jacket covering him, I saw he was dressed like a member of the ancient Roman Army. It bears repeating, this is a Flash set, not Legends Of Tomorrow. The scene is even sillier than it already sounds, as this Roman army guy runs across the grounds at a group of guys, and swings his sword around, seemingly killing them, before turning around celebrating by throwing his hands in the air, and putting his sword away..... if you can make sense of that scene, you are doing better than me at this. After that insanity, I went back to the other location where I knew The Flash was working, and I thought, would get some sense of normalcy again. Silly me. When I got there they were setting up to do a scene where The Flash, with Grant now on set as him, comes zipping in, and faces.... someone or something? The director was yelling instructions to him over a loudspeaker, telling him its a nightmare, and he cant escape it, and at some point he is overcome by something and ends up on the ground. While all this is going on, a man in a random red & back halloween looking mask also appears, before disappearing. A bit later, they filmed scenes of just the mystery masked man close ups, before wrapping for the night. This is certainly going to go down as the oddest set for The Flash I will have covered to date. There will be some video from this nights shoot to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash season 7 will air Tuesday nights on The CW in the U.S. starting February 23, 2021. You can now get exclusive first looks on our Patreon ahead of these blog posts. The Flash was on location for an episode of the 6th season a couple weeks ago in downtown Vancouver. It was a late night shoot, that started with severla cast members, including Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Jesse L Martin as Joe West, Candice Patton as Iris West Allen and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton were on set at this location at varying points. With a lot of picture vehicles on set for the scene, along with the productions equipment, there was very little to actually see of the scenes shot. All I know of the scenes with the actors is that there was a scene where Barry & Iris walk across the gravel parking lot, first 1, then the other a second or two later. Another scene had Joe walking the opposite direction from where they walked to. Later on, the only scene you could see clearly at any point was with Joe standing on top of something and looking forward. A bit later, after the cast had left the lot, they did a huge stunt scene with an exploding car that I was there for, but sort of missed the original explosion as I believed it was going to be the truck driving towards us blowing up, and not a random car in the background. Luckily I had my phone taking photos at the same time I was video taping it, so I got SOME photos of the explosion. But my video, I only caught the after effect of it. Throughout the night, I walked around the set (in fact, while I did so one time, was when Grant, and Candice came over & met some fans. One particular fan was nice enough to let me use a couple of their photos of their interactions in my post here), and found 3 different city billboards they had covered up with Central City specific ads. One for CC Jitters, One for Big Belly Burger, and 1 for Ralph Dibny, along with a parking sign for a Central City parkade. I was most amused with the Dibny one for the fine print on it that states he "No longer performs exorcisms/ demon removal". I am curious, does this have something to do with an upcoming episode? Or, does this have something to do with Dibs in the old timeline? A little curious on that one. At the end of the night, a driving scene was done, that had them drive a vehicle down the street past those ads we saw along the street. You may NOT make 3 posts of just 1 part. Please make note of this rare bonus permission. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 601 yesterday in a quiet North Burnaby neighbourhood. The scene had Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Jesse L Martin as Joe West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Candice Patton as Iris West Allen, Danielle Nicolet as Cecille Horton, Victoria Park as Kamilla Hwang, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand *drum roll* Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon shooting a scene that takes place in a back yard. Judging by the attire of those there, it would seem they were shooting a hanging out in the backyard enjoying the day type of scene. The scene description on the film notice called it a "family bbq". Only thing I know of the scene is the attire most were wearing, and that at some point I heard the classic Flash air guns go off. Was Barry taking off to, or returning from, a situation, or did he just head off real quick to grab some steaks for the bbq? Barry, Joe & Iris were in full "summer time" attire mode, as Grant was wearing a Hawaiin shirt, Jesse had on a casual shirt, and Candice was wearing a floral orange/brown and white pattern summer dress. During 1 break, and after they wrapped, I had a chance to chat with a few of the cast. Some briefer than others. But mostly everyone seemed to be in a great mood. I asked Grant about his costume for this season, he confirmed there will be a chin strap/cowl for the army of haters out there for the season 5 suit. I asked him straight up if he was getting a new suit, he said "yeah, its mostly the same though..." then I asked specifically about the chinstrap/cowl situation, and he said there will be 1 this year. I then told him how it was many peoples largest complaint last year, and he turned around and in a really joking manner waved his arms and said "everyones so petty". Jesse told me that his back is all good. Also, Carlos was right about what he said to me at the end of last season when he said "and I'll see you", he sure did and waved at me to say hi as I was moving towards getting someone else. I felt bad that I didnt have a moment to at least say "good to see you back" to him. When I asked Danielle Panabaker if she had a chance to try out the new Killer Frost outfit yet, she just smirked and said "you'll just have to wait & see". Only notable cast that I did not see there, and they did not have a trailer there were Tom Cavanagh and Hartley Sawyer. The show did celebrate its 100th episode on Saturday night with a party at 1 of Vancouver's best known venues, the Commodore Ballroom. It actually was a busy weekend for the Commodore hosting milestone events for The CW, as Supernatural had their party the night before for their 300th episode. The event was a celebration of their accomplishment, along with a chance to give press people a few tidbits of info for the event. The Flash cast in attendance included Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Nicolet, Patrick Sabongui, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Chris Klein. Of course Jesse L Martin was noticeably missing, as he still is recuperating from surgery on a back issue. But the cast of The Flash was not all that showed up, as all 4 Arrowverse shows were represented quite heavily at the party. Arrow had Stephen Amell, Cassandra Amell, David Ramsey, Juliana Harkavy, Rick Gonzalez and Kirk Acevedo there. Legends Of Tomorrow brought Brandon Routh, Courtney Ford, Jes Macallan, Tala Ashe, Adam Tsekhman and Ramona Young. Supergirl was represented by Melissa Benoist, Katie McGrath, Nicole Maines, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, and former cast member Chris Wood . A handful of former guest stars were there, along with Elseworlds newcomer LaMonica Garrett. Probably my favorite parts of the evening was a couple things. First, the rent-a-goon "security" team they hired who clearly had never done a celebrity event in their life, and were over reacting to every single person coming in like they thought they were protecting President Obama or something..... and still failed at doing so. Not once, but on 3 different occasions early in the evening, they decided to get confrontational with me about being on a public sidewalk. As I told the first group "its going to be a long night for you" which they tried then telling me no one was going to sign autographs. They lost their will to live pretty quickly, and by the time the celebs were leaving, they weren't even bothering to acknowledge some of them with a half hearted "human chain" that they so intensely created for everyone on the way in, just adding to the annoyance of the celebs who did want to sign when they had to reach over outstretched arms holding hands with another outstretched arm. They were so poorly informed on how to act, and who they were there to "protect" that they were creating human chains for random crew members, and failing to do so when actual actors from the show were leaving. Candice Patton had no one but the people she left with protecting her. Same for Carlos Valdes. No moment more encapsulated the evening of incompetence than when they "protected" Hayes Robbins, the husband of The Flash star Danielle Panabaker, but not Danielle herself. All in all, not the best team. I wouldnt hire them to protect a pie from a child. For the record, the "no autographs" I was promised, was Juuuuuuuust a tad short of accurate. I got every single cast member of The Flash except for Jessica Parker Kennedy, Danielle Nicolet and Chris Klein. The last two, who I did not even have something for. I also got 6 of the other Arrowverse cast. In fact, not one single person that signed that I needed, did they end up stopping me from getting. Usually when a staff tells me I'm not getting anything, they at least succeed on preventing me from getting SOMEONE at some point. I cant recall a team ever failing at every single venture. It was quite something to behold. Second, was the variety of crew, and also 1 actor, who joked that I should be inside, because as 1 of them put it "I think you have spent more time on the set than some of us". I have done several cast parties over the years, and for the most part, crew are always very welcoming to me at these events. It really repeats the point I try to make to people all the time when they think the crews hate us. While I am sure there are some, from every show (because when you have a group of 200+ people working on something.... not everyone is going to be happy about the same things), the vast majority dont have a problem with us, and understand we all have a job to do. As for who hung with who? Obviously the interior of the party was a mystery to me. But as they arrived & left, MOST cast arrived & left on their own. But there were a couple exceptions. Much of The Flash cast were in early, as they had press to do inside before the party. I know that for cast Grant, Hartley, Carlos and Danielle were the last to leave, all leaving around 11:45-11:55ish. While Candice was the first to leave much earlier, and Jessica a little while after. The Arrow cast were some of the latest to arrive, with Stephen, being the first of the cast, and not till after 8. Rick and David arrived together, with Kirk very shortly after them, and Juliana shortly after him. The Legends Of Tomorrow cast was a bit of a mystery to me. They seemed pretty scattered on when they arrived, and left. The only thing I do recall from their cast was Ramona Young was the last one to arrive. For Supergirl, Melissa was the first to leave from any of the shows, even before some people had even got there. While Katie & Nicole seemed to leave with their guests together. The Flash airs on The CW in the U.S. on Tuesdays. It shows the next day on Netflix in Canada and other countries. The 100th episode will air live on December 4, 2018. If you have not seen this episode yet, and do not want to see any possible spoilers from it. Do not continue reading, or viewing photos. . . . last warning . . Back in August I caught The Flash shooting in New Westminster for episode 5 "Monster" with the shows director of photograph Kim Miles as director. In the scene I saw, Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West, Danielle Nicolet as Police Chief Cecile Horton and Candice Patton as Iris West were on set shooting. The scene wasnt terribly complex to follow. It starts off with Joe and the Chief sitting down on a bench talking. The tone of the chat didnt really tell me much about whether it was a professional chat or a personal chat between the two. But what was clear was after the Cecile leaves when Iris shows up with a bag of Big Belly Burger (apparently the ONLY restaurant in the entire DC Universe) is that Iris did not seem impressed with her dads choice of conversation partners which makes me believe this chat wasnt so much professional, and a bit more personal as the daughter storms off in a huff. In whats becoming an all too familiar pattern when 1 certain cast member is on set for a scene, the crew tried pretty hard to prevent people from being able to see much of the scene by putting up extra things to block the view & where they couldn't block it out, they had crew members stand holding umbrellas in the middle of a sunny August day... but as usual, I still managed to get my fair share of photos. Before this scene, they shot across the street at the brand new Anvil Centre. Unfortunately that shooting was inside, so I cant tell you what was going on in there. The Flash is on Tuesday nights on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. This episode is currently scheduled to air November 1, 2016 You can find our other BTS photos on The Flash in our Flash Blog Section, as well as autographs of the stars of the show in our The Flash Autographs section. |
