The Flash cast & crew filmed this past Thursday, into early Friday morning at Science World, in the far north east part of downtown Vancouver. This is for the season 9 finale, the series finale, and the Arrowverse finale. It is directed by Vanessa Parise. This is the same location that they used for the season 7 finale where Godspeed, Reverse Flash, and The Flash had that famous lightning light saber battle. This time, a few more people would be on the set. Early in the day, I got there while they were still setting up. It was going to be cold that night, and I was hoping to get some photos of them rehearsing before it got too cold. Unfortunately, they didnt start rehearsing till it was plenty dark, and already cold. They started with some stunts, featuring the stunt double for Cobalt Blue out on the set. He went up to a car, and shoved it aggressively, which I assume set off the chain reaction that some may have seen in the explosion scene in this video on tiktok. I missed it, as I was across the street in a buddies car getting warm, but we could see it easily enough from the car, as the fireballs were all several feet high, clearing all the equipment that was between us & the set. After they did that explosion scene, there was a scene where someone went through a glass sign (the one I photographed in the daytime), then after cleaning up all that, they started shooting with cast. It was already late & cold by then, and I was only saved by bringing hand warmers with me, and a couple times sitting in a car. Without those, I would have left several hours earlier. On set for this massive scene was several actors, and a couple stunt doubles. First off, people you might have expected to be around. Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Jon Cor as Chillblaine, aaaaand Danielle Panabaker as Khione. But they were not the only cast out there, there was a roster of speedster villains against them. Rick Cosnett was out there as Cobalt Blue, Teddy Sears was there as Zoom, and a bit of an unexpected shock was Tom Cavanagh back as Reverse Flash, as he had not been announced as being back, unlike the other two. With them were stunt doubles filling the suits of Savitar, and Godspeed. Also on set was Cody Laudan as The Flash. Oddly, Grant Gustin did not work all night (this is quite odd.. only other time I have seen that was one time when Grant got snowed in back east, and 1 other time on another show when an actor got too sick to work on short notice). The scenes did not seem to have a lot in the way of action going on. It essentially had the 5 villains in a row, facing the 6 Team Flash members all standing in a row. It gave us a bit better look at Ceciles costume, which the first set I shot her at, didnt give me the impression the suit was blue, but now I could clearly see it is. Allegra might have had a suit as well, but couldnt be so certain. Khiones wardrobe was seemingly a more toned down old Frost costume, with a more modest look to it. Also, whether you like him or not, you have to give your full respect to Jon Cor as Chillblaine, he was out there SHIRTLESS with his jacket wide open, in below freezing conditions (the temperatures ranged from -1C to -7C on the night) for the scenes. For the most part, the villains team seemed to have Cobalt Blue doing the majority of the dialogue, but it really was hard to be sure, as I was shooting all of it from about a football field away. On Team Flash, I never really got the impression anyone specific was controlling the dialogue there, but again, they had their backs to me for the entire scene. During 1 break, we got to talk to Teddy Sears for a few minutes, while he signed autographs He said he was excited to be back, and thanked all the fans who campaigned for him to return, because he really wanted to come back, and kept checking in with them himself to see if they wanted him to come back, and only got the word about 2 weeks out from filming. I also chatted very briefly with Tom Cavanagh, and finally met Kayla Compton for the 1st time. This MIGHT be the last location shoot the show ever has downtown. They did have another one the very next night, in a city 30 minutes away, that seemed to just be a lot of Godspeeds doing a stunt scene. As of right now, there are no more sets known yet. They only have a week of filming left to do, as they wrap on March 6, 2023. The episode, the penultimate episode of the series, is directed by Stefan Pleszczynski. On this night they filmed 3 different locations in the area. First was across the street at the top of a parking garage. Obviously there was nothing up there that could be seen. I know Grant Gustin was up there as The Flash. I was also told by a crew member that Jessica Parker Kennedy was up there. After that, they moved across the street to film the first location shoot of the night. There were some "future" looking signs like for VR med help, and an automated CC Jitters, implying its in the future. In the scene was Grant & Jessica again as The Flash & XS. In the scene, they had XS trying to make people leave the area for some reason. A few moments later, Flash comes in, looks around, and then runs off with XS. A pretty anti-climactic scene over all. A bit later, they moved down to the a street that is used a lot. On this night, they had it dressed up to look like Porter Plaza, a location they have been to before here. Grant & Jessica were down there as well as Flash & XS, but they were joined by 1 other cast member, Danielle Nicolet was down there. I assume as Cecile Horton, but..... something was different. The "muscle" of Team Flash was there in what seemed like a head to toe leather outfit.... and a mask. Yep, Ceciles wardrobe has.... levelled up. Earlier in the evening they did a stunt with Grants double, Cody falling from a high height onto a pile of mats. A bit later, Grant took over from the stunt doubles spot, in the classic default starting position of The Flash, laying on the ground. A scene with XS coming in and seemingly throwing something in the direction of where Flash would have been was a bit hard to see, I was too far away, with too much equipment in the way to see if it was at him, or past him. After that, a scene with Cecile coming in, and walking up to Flash on the ground, putting out her hand, and lifting the scarlet speedster off the ground. After that, I called it a night, even though they had a bit more time left to film. It was cold, and long day, so I decided to call it there. Funny enough, I didnt even know about the Cecile mask till I got home and looked at the photos a bit. I was so unsure at what I saw, I lightened the photo to make sure I saw what I saw. Thats why the 1 photo looks so light. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. The Flash was on location for the season 8 shoot in front of the CBC building. They have filmed close to this same spot before, when I filmed them last season doing a scene with the Godspeeds in the daytime. It also happens to be across the street from where I saw them last about a week and a half ago. On this day, they had the front of the station made to look like "Central City Savings & Loans" bank. Before I get into describing the scene. If you are a regular reader, you know I never ask this, but if you do go to other places of the internet to discuss these photos. PLEASE LINK TO THIS ARTICLE. I went there on crutches with a bad knee, in the rain, on almost no sleep to give you content. I'd like to see the time, and discomfort rewarded. When you just say "credit to Canadagraphs" that doesnt add a lot of views to here. Most people want a direct link. If they have to google where they came from, they generally dont put in the effort. So please link to the article. The first scene of the day had a pair of Central City Police at Central City Savings & Loans confronting currently unknown actor, dressed like a cross between a Stormtrooper, a nordic sniper, and a discount ATOM. They draw their guns on him, and he reacts by putting down his bags he seemingly got from the bank, and walks over & "throws" something, that later on I see is a full police car. He does this, 1 handed, and with almost no effort. The cops scatter, and the villain goes back to his bags. A bit later, the 3 main cast for the day come to work on the scene. Grant Gustin as The Flash, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, and Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia showed up to do a scene with the 3 of them confronting this mystery villain. For most of the filming I was unable to see everything going on because of sightlines. But I did get to see a couple takes eventually, and from what I can tell, they are dealing with this guy, Allegra tries to do something to him with her powers, which sends her back, and onto the ground out cold. The villain then confronts Cecile. Cecile seems to go through a variety of emotions, including a point where she grabs her head as if shes having a headache. Barry then eventually zips in (no idea where he was all this time.) Cecile then helps Allegra up, Allegra seems to need Cecile to help hold her up, while Barry taps his ear, as if hes contacting someone probably at S.T.A.R. Labs. Then the scene ends. Grant then left for lunch, while Danielle & Kayla continued doing different angles of the scene that they were in. Eventually they headed to lunch, and I left at that point, as I was physically drained by then, and although I wanted to stick around for the post-lunch scene, which was going to including blowing up that Police car that got "tossed" earlier, I just didnt have it in me to do it. The Flash was on location for season 7 shooting on Wednesday in 3 different spots around downtown Vancouver. In the morning, and early afternoon, they were shooting in the conference centre part of the Bayshore Hotel, near Stanley Park. Because of the position of some of the cranes, and the part they were actually in, there was almost nothing to see from this location. Only details I can pass along is, the scene had a bunch of blinking strobe lights going on, and Grant Gustin was on set as The Flash. I also briefly saw Carlos Valdes as he left at the end of the shoot, but never saw him in the scene. I know 1 of the two Danielles was on set, as I heard them reference her wrapping, but I dont know if it was Danielle Panabaker, or Danielle Nicolet. At one point as many as 6 different cast style transportation vehicles were waiting around, so there could have been more. The set up there, left it a bit of a challenge to figure out much of anything. I saw Grant on a break, and as he was leaving. Besides that, I saw him inside for brief moments through a small break between the equipment, trees, and frosted glass. I also saw an unknown guy being led by a crew member back to set all covered up. So I added 1 photo of him in there too, in case he turns out to be something, but he could just be a background character... but they rarely escort background to & from sets. The one detail from the shoot that DID catch my attention is.... what is The Flash wearing on the front of his head in the 1st photo? Is this the same device he had on when he was trying to prevent Grodd from controlling him. They would wrap this location around 3 PMish, and move across the downtown core to two other locations they would shoot night scenes for. For the evening shoots. There was two different sets going on at the exact same time. I walked by the B.C. Place set 1st, but it didnt look like they were close to starting, so I went to check out the other location at the Vancouver Public Library. At that location, they were already under way... or at least further along in their process. They had Cody Laudan out there in The Flash costume getting ready to do a stunt as The Flash where he gets thrown across the grounds. After they did this short stunt, the team took a while to set up for the next take, so I went back to the other set. On that set, I had to laugh that they covered up 1 real construction crews banners, with their own for "Central Construction". Outside B.C. Place Stadium (aka - the exterior location for S.T.A.R. Labs ) the crew worked on scene out on the sidewalk part, far enough away from the stadium that its probably not playing into this scene. The first thing I saw there when I got there was a guy in a wardrobe jacket being led away from the set. At first glance (which was short, and from quite a distance.... I actually thought it was 1 of the Samuroids from season 4 at first glance, till I looked at my camera after. After seeing this mystery character, I waited around for him to return..... only to keep getting teased with him walking to & from set with the jacket covering him, but not actually shooting. While he was off, they filmed a scene with a single actress walking along on the phone with a coffee, wearing a Jitters shirt. She clearly sees this mystery character, screams, drops her coffee, and runs away. Finally, a bit later, they did a scene with the mystery character. Imagine my surprise when after not having a wardrobe jacket covering him, I saw he was dressed like a member of the ancient Roman Army. It bears repeating, this is a Flash set, not Legends Of Tomorrow. The scene is even sillier than it already sounds, as this Roman army guy runs across the grounds at a group of guys, and swings his sword around, seemingly killing them, before turning around celebrating by throwing his hands in the air, and putting his sword away..... if you can make sense of that scene, you are doing better than me at this. After that insanity, I went back to the other location where I knew The Flash was working, and I thought, would get some sense of normalcy again. Silly me. When I got there they were setting up to do a scene where The Flash, with Grant now on set as him, comes zipping in, and faces.... someone or something? The director was yelling instructions to him over a loudspeaker, telling him its a nightmare, and he cant escape it, and at some point he is overcome by something and ends up on the ground. While all this is going on, a man in a random red & black halloween looking mask also appears, before disappearing. A bit later, they filmed scenes of just the mystery masked man close ups, before wrapping for the night. EDIT: March 12, 2021 - Actor in the red & black mask has been identified as Ennis Esmer, and the character is Psych. This is certainly going to go down as the oddest set for The Flash I will have covered to date. There will be some video from this nights shoot to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash was on location for an episode of the 6th season a couple weeks ago in downtown Vancouver. It was a late night shoot, that started with severla cast members, including Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Jesse L Martin as Joe West, Candice Patton as Iris West Allen and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton were on set at this location at varying points. With a lot of picture vehicles on set for the scene, along with the productions equipment, there was very little to actually see of the scenes shot. All I know of the scenes with the actors is that there was a scene where Barry & Iris walk across the gravel parking lot, first 1, then the other a second or two later. Another scene had Joe walking the opposite direction from where they walked to. Later on, the only scene you could see clearly at any point was with Joe standing on top of something and looking forward. A bit later, after the cast had left the lot, they did a huge stunt scene with an exploding car that I was there for, but sort of missed the original explosion as I believed it was going to be the truck driving towards us blowing up, and not a random car in the background. Luckily I had my phone taking photos at the same time I was video taping it, so I got SOME photos of the explosion. But my video, I only caught the after effect of it. Throughout the night, I walked around the set (in fact, while I did so one time, was when Grant, and Candice came over & met some fans. One particular fan was nice enough to let me use a couple of their photos of their interactions in my post here), and found 3 different city billboards they had covered up with Central City specific ads. One for CC Jitters, One for Big Belly Burger, and 1 for Ralph Dibny, along with a parking sign for a Central City parkade. I was most amused with the Dibny one for the fine print on it that states he "No longer performs exorcisms/ demon removal". I am curious, does this have something to do with an upcoming episode? Or, does this have something to do with Dibs in the old timeline? A little curious on that one. At the end of the night, a driving scene was done, that had them drive a vehicle down the street past those ads we saw along the street. You may NOT make 3 posts of just 1 part. Please make note of this rare bonus permission. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 601 yesterday in a quiet North Burnaby neighbourhood. The scene had Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Jesse L Martin as Joe West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Candice Patton as Iris West Allen, Danielle Nicolet as Cecille Horton, Victoria Park as Kamilla Hwang, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand *drum roll* Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon shooting a scene that takes place in a back yard. Judging by the attire of those there, it would seem they were shooting a hanging out in the backyard enjoying the day type of scene. The scene description on the film notice called it a "family bbq". Only thing I know of the scene is the attire most were wearing, and that at some point I heard the classic Flash air guns go off. Was Barry taking off to, or returning from, a situation, or did he just head off real quick to grab some steaks for the bbq? Barry, Joe & Iris were in full "summer time" attire mode, as Grant was wearing a Hawaiin shirt, Jesse had on a casual shirt, and Candice was wearing a floral orange/brown and white pattern summer dress. During 1 break, and after they wrapped, I had a chance to chat with a few of the cast. Some briefer than others. But mostly everyone seemed to be in a great mood. I asked Grant about his costume for this season, he confirmed there will be a chin strap/cowl for the army of haters out there for the season 5 suit. I asked him straight up if he was getting a new suit, he said "yeah, its mostly the same though..." then I asked specifically about the chinstrap/cowl situation, and he said there will be 1 this year. I then told him how it was many peoples largest complaint last year, and he turned around and in a really joking manner waved his arms and said "everyones so petty". Jesse told me that his back is all good. Also, Carlos was right about what he said to me at the end of last season when he said "and I'll see you", he sure did and waved at me to say hi as I was moving towards getting someone else. I felt bad that I didnt have a moment to at least say "good to see you back" to him. When I asked Danielle Panabaker if she had a chance to try out the new Killer Frost outfit yet, she just smirked and said "you'll just have to wait & see". Only notable cast that I did not see there, and they did not have a trailer there were Tom Cavanagh and Hartley Sawyer. The show did celebrate its 100th episode on Saturday night with a party at 1 of Vancouver's best known venues, the Commodore Ballroom. It actually was a busy weekend for the Commodore hosting milestone events for The CW, as Supernatural had their party the night before for their 300th episode. The event was a celebration of their accomplishment, along with a chance to give press people a few tidbits of info for the event. The Flash cast in attendance included Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Nicolet, Patrick Sabongui, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Chris Klein. Of course Jesse L Martin was noticeably missing, as he still is recuperating from surgery on a back issue. But the cast of The Flash was not all that showed up, as all 4 Arrowverse shows were represented quite heavily at the party. Arrow had Stephen Amell, Cassandra Amell, David Ramsey, Juliana Harkavy, Rick Gonzalez and Kirk Acevedo there. Legends Of Tomorrow brought Brandon Routh, Courtney Ford, Jes Macallan, Tala Ashe, Adam Tsekhman and Ramona Young. Supergirl was represented by Melissa Benoist, Katie McGrath, Nicole Maines, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, and former cast member Chris Wood . A handful of former guest stars were there, along with Elseworlds newcomer LaMonica Garrett. Probably my favorite parts of the evening was a couple things. First, the rent-a-goon "security" team they hired who clearly had never done a celebrity event in their life, and were over reacting to every single person coming in like they thought they were protecting President Obama or something..... and still failed at doing so. Not once, but on 3 different occasions early in the evening, they decided to get confrontational with me about being on a public sidewalk. As I told the first group "its going to be a long night for you" which they tried then telling me no one was going to sign autographs. They lost their will to live pretty quickly, and by the time the celebs were leaving, they weren't even bothering to acknowledge some of them with a half hearted "human chain" that they so intensely created for everyone on the way in, just adding to the annoyance of the celebs who did want to sign when they had to reach over outstretched arms holding hands with another outstretched arm. They were so poorly informed on how to act, and who they were there to "protect" that they were creating human chains for random crew members, and failing to do so when actual actors from the show were leaving. Candice Patton had no one but the people she left with protecting her. Same for Carlos Valdes. No moment more encapsulated the evening of incompetence than when they "protected" Hayes Robbins, the husband of The Flash star Danielle Panabaker, but not Danielle herself. All in all, not the best team. I wouldnt hire them to protect a pie from a child. For the record, the "no autographs" I was promised, was Juuuuuuuust a tad short of accurate. I got every single cast member of The Flash except for Jessica Parker Kennedy, Danielle Nicolet and Chris Klein. The last two, who I did not even have something for. I also got 6 of the other Arrowverse cast. In fact, not one single person that signed that I needed, did they end up stopping me from getting. Usually when a staff tells me I'm not getting anything, they at least succeed on preventing me from getting SOMEONE at some point. I cant recall a team ever failing at every single venture. It was quite something to behold. Second, was the variety of crew, and also 1 actor, who joked that I should be inside, because as 1 of them put it "I think you have spent more time on the set than some of us". I have done several cast parties over the years, and for the most part, crew are always very welcoming to me at these events. It really repeats the point I try to make to people all the time when they think the crews hate us. While I am sure there are some, from every show (because when you have a group of 200+ people working on something.... not everyone is going to be happy about the same things), the vast majority dont have a problem with us, and understand we all have a job to do. As for who hung with who? Obviously the interior of the party was a mystery to me. But as they arrived & left, MOST cast arrived & left on their own. But there were a couple exceptions. Much of The Flash cast were in early, as they had press to do inside before the party. I know that for cast Grant, Hartley, Carlos and Danielle were the last to leave, all leaving around 11:45-11:55ish. While Candice was the first to leave much earlier, and Jessica a little while after. The Arrow cast were some of the latest to arrive, with Stephen, being the first of the cast, and not till after 8. Rick and David arrived together, with Kirk very shortly after them, and Juliana shortly after him. The Legends Of Tomorrow cast was a bit of a mystery to me. They seemed pretty scattered on when they arrived, and left. The only thing I do recall from their cast was Ramona Young was the last one to arrive. For Supergirl, Melissa was the first to leave from any of the shows, even before some people had even got there. While Katie & Nicole seemed to leave with their guests together. The Flash airs on The CW in the U.S. on Tuesdays. It shows the next day on Netflix in Canada and other countries. The 100th episode will air live on December 4, 2018.
