The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes on Thursday & Friday nights, which went well into Friday & Saturday mornings in downtown Vancouver this week. On top of that, I also caught them out at Central Park in Burnaby back on Tuesday for a scene there, that I did not see, but saw who was on set. The outdoor scene in the middle of the forest in Central Park had 2 actors on set, along with director Danielle Panabaker. Those actors being Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, and the return of Arrow star Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen. The photos below are of them in their wardrobe for the scene, and not their personal wear. When the cast & crew got to downtown Vancouver 2 nights later, they were met by substantially more onlookers, and substantially more rain. This was 1 of the wettest sets I have been to in a long time. The set, at the Vancouver Art Gallery, was surrounded by fencing (a thing them, and them only have done the past couple times they have filmed at this location). On set for this, along with Danielle as director, were Grant as The Flash, Stephen as The Green Arrow, along with the other 3 announced returning guest stars for this episode, Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West /Kid Flash, David Ramsey as John Diggle/Spartan, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso/ Bloodwork. I got there early enough to see rehearsals done, and in 1 scene saw Diggle holding a bazooka. But I never saw him USE it in any of the scenes I saw shot (he may have, and it was out of view of the parts I could see.) The scenes on the Thursday night shoot had all 5 of them on set at different periods, in different combinations. I am unsure if all 5 were in 1 scene together, as the way scenes are shot, doesnt always tell that in person. But the way it played out, I BELIEVE this is all part of the same scene. At one point, a scene with Spartan & Green Arrow had Spartan speed walk up to GA & hug him, as if this was the 1st time they had seen each other since Crisis. Immediately after that, the pair would go off screen, and Kid Flash & Flash would come in, do a scene where the pair were seemingly pulling on some type of rope, or other item that can be pulled. Barry then yells out to Oliver that he has a clear shot now. A bit later, there was a scene with Arrow, Flash & Kid Flash standing together in a line (unclear if Diggle was also there, due to equipment impeding parts of the scene). It is unclear what the scene entailed, as they eventually all moved out of my view shortly after. Another scene on the night that was done, is 1 everybody is probably waiting for. The Green Arrow perched on top of a truck, yells out with quite some force "Ramsey Rosso, You Have Failed This City" as he aims his bow, and shoots in to the distance. Later on, they had Stephen and David out on set doing a scene, in it they had Sendhil raised a few feet into the air as Ramsey Rosso. I dont know the full context of it. Thats just what I know was happening. At one point, late in the night, David, Grant, Danielle, and Stephen posed together for a photo (unsure whose phone it was on, but I am sure 1 of them will post it on social media in the not too distant future). I missed that shot, but another photgrapher that was there, was generous enough to lend me 1 of his frames of it. Late in the eevening, myself, and a couple other fans managed to get Keiynan to stop & sign some autographs, and take a photo. It was raining harder then than maybe any other point in the evening. Fortunately, my umbrella did its job & kept them dry. Not long after that, I called it a night, and went home to recoup for the next day. On the 2nd night, they returned to the same location to film more scenes. On this night, I saw far less than the night before. Partially because of where they shot in the courtyard, and partially because of fans the night before ruining the best spot. I had crew tell me on multiple occasions throughout the night, that the reason that 1 of the streets was all blocked off with scrims (the large black tarps they use primarily for lighting, but sometimes privacy) was to stop fans from congrgating there, as the night before they were a constant nuisance to the people working in the tents that were right beside there with all their chatter.
So that misfortune, combined with my physical exhaustion & soreness from the night before, saw me far less motivated on night two. I spent a good chunk of it doing a Live Chat where fans got to see me wish Grant a Happy Birthday in real time near the end of the stream, and socializing with others that came out to the set. Before they started filming, Grant stopped to sign some autographs for myself, and one of the other regulars. He then stopped again later to do photos with people when he wrapped. The early part of the night had Grant, Keiynan, Sendhil, and Stephen on set (I actually never saw David all night, even though his trailer appeared to be in use). For the mostpart, I wasnt able to see a lot, just that most of the action seemed to take place around a towncar. At one point they did a scene with The Flash & Green Arrow seemingly getting up from the ground, but that was really all I could see of the scenes before their lunch break. After lunch, the only scene I saw shot was a stunt scene I had seen breifly being practiced 2 days before, with a bunch of men in SWAT gear attacking the Green Arrow, and he kicking their asses. I called this second night a bit earlier than the first night due to how sore I was after that 1st night, and the fact there seemed to be very little cast left. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR "THE FLASH" SEASON EPISODE 509 TITLED "ELSEWORLDS" AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . As October got under way, so did the annual DC TV universe crossover event that they have done for the past few seasons. This year, only 3 of their 4 shows are taking part, with Legends Of Tomorrow taking a pass on this one. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up for the event. On this particular day, they filmed several scenes in downtown Vancouver for"The Flash". During this video, we see Stephen Amell dressed as The Flash, with Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, with the stunt double for Supergirl, trying to take down Daniel Cudmore in a CGI suit as Amazo. This is 3 separate videos put together for 1 convenient continual watching experience. In the first part, we just see Daniel walking around during a break. You can see how much higher up he is than the regular cast & crew around him. He was walking on stilts to make this happen. The second part, sees Stephen, Tyler, Supergirl stunt double and Daniel attempt to film a scene when something seems to happen causing them all to break, and a smirk on Tylers face suggest maybe something funny happened. The final was a take where we see possibly the final product, as the camera zooms in on Stephen for a close up at the end of it. Apologies for the occasional interruptions from traffic, and the blurriness at times as the camera tried to re-focus. They were shooting this on West Georgia Street, which is a major thoroughfare thru the downtown core & we were unlawfully denied the right to stand on the same side of the street they were filming on, so I had to shoot this from across a 6 lane street. You will have to watch it by Unofficial means, because the morons at The CW have given Netflix the rights to air The Flash the next day (it literally does NOT air live ANYWHERE in Canada), while giving Arrow to the Space network, and giving Supergirl to the Showcase network. The former network that carried them, CTV, now has none of them for some reason. So uhhh, I guess good luck with watching it. The Flash 100th episode celebration party - With most of the cast - and lots of Arrowverse friends.11/18/2018 So, while little is known yet about the 100th episode of The Flash besides the press release for it. The show did celebrate its 100th episode on Saturday night with a party at 1 of Vancouver's best known venues, the Commodore Ballroom. It actually was a busy weekend for the Commodore hosting milestone events for The CW, as Supernatural had their party the night before for their 300th episode. The event was a celebration of their accomplishment, along with a chance to give press people a few tidbits of info for the event. The Flash cast in attendance included Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Hartley Sawyer, Danielle Nicolet, Patrick Sabongui, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Chris Klein. Of course Jesse L Martin was noticeably missing, as he still is recuperating from surgery on a back issue. But the cast of The Flash was not all that showed up, as all 4 Arrowverse shows were represented quite heavily at the party. Arrow had Stephen Amell, Cassandra Amell, David Ramsey, Juliana Harkavy, Rick Gonzalez and Kirk Acevedo there. Legends Of Tomorrow brought Brandon Routh, Courtney Ford, Jes Macallan, Tala Ashe, Adam Tsekhman and Ramona Young. Supergirl was represented by Melissa Benoist, Katie McGrath, Nicole Maines, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, and former cast member Chris Wood . A handful of former guest stars were there, along with Elseworlds newcomer LaMonica Garrett. Probably my favorite parts of the evening was a couple things. First, the rent-a-goon "security" team they hired who clearly had never done a celebrity event in their life, and were over reacting to every single person coming in like they thought they were protecting President Obama or something..... and still failed at doing so. Not once, but on 3 different occasions early in the evening, they decided to get confrontational with me about being on a public sidewalk. As I told the first group "its going to be a long night for you" which they tried then telling me no one was going to sign autographs. They lost their will to live pretty quickly, and by the time the celebs were leaving, they weren't even bothering to acknowledge some of them with a half hearted "human chain" that they so intensely created for everyone on the way in, just adding to the annoyance of the celebs who did want to sign when they had to reach over outstretched arms holding hands with another outstretched arm. They were so poorly informed on how to act, and who they were there to "protect" that they were creating human chains for random crew members, and failing to do so when actual actors from the show were leaving. Candice Patton had no one but the people she left with protecting her. Same for Carlos Valdes. No moment more encapsulated the evening of incompetence than when they "protected" Hayes Robbins, the husband of The Flash star Danielle Panabaker, but not Danielle herself. All in all, not the best team. I wouldnt hire them to protect a pie from a child. For the record, the "no autographs" I was promised, was Juuuuuuuust a tad short of accurate. I got every single cast member of The Flash except for Jessica Parker Kennedy, Danielle Nicolet and Chris Klein. The last two, who I did not even have something for. I also got 6 of the other Arrowverse cast. In fact, not one single person that signed that I needed, did they end up stopping me from getting. Usually when a staff tells me I'm not getting anything, they at least succeed on preventing me from getting SOMEONE at some point. I cant recall a team ever failing at every single venture. It was quite something to behold. Second, was the variety of crew, and also 1 actor, who joked that I should be inside, because as 1 of them put it "I think you have spent more time on the set than some of us". I have done several cast parties over the years, and for the most part, crew are always very welcoming to me at these events. It really repeats the point I try to make to people all the time when they think the crews hate us. While I am sure there are some, from every show (because when you have a group of 200+ people working on something.... not everyone is going to be happy about the same things), the vast majority dont have a problem with us, and understand we all have a job to do. As for who hung with who? Obviously the interior of the party was a mystery to me. But as they arrived & left, MOST cast arrived & left on their own. But there were a couple exceptions. Much of The Flash cast were in early, as they had press to do inside before the party. I know that for cast Grant, Hartley, Carlos and Danielle were the last to leave, all leaving around 11:45-11:55ish. While Candice was the first to leave much earlier, and Jessica a little while after. The Arrow cast were some of the latest to arrive, with Stephen, being the first of the cast, and not till after 8. Rick and David arrived together, with Kirk very shortly after them, and Juliana shortly after him. The Legends Of Tomorrow cast was a bit of a mystery to me. They seemed pretty scattered on when they arrived, and left. The only thing I do recall from their cast was Ramona Young was the last one to arrive. For Supergirl, Melissa was the first to leave from any of the shows, even before some people had even got there. While Katie & Nicole seemed to leave with their guests together. The Flash airs on The CW in the U.S. on Tuesdays. It shows the next day on Netflix in Canada and other countries. The 100th episode will air live on December 4, 2018. Surprisingly, there was not much overlap from the day before shoots. Which is rare for a 2 day shoot. Most times, half of what they shoot on day 2 is the same as day 1, just at different angles. But there was very little of the same. - (will fill in scene details later when time permits) Grant Gustin was dressed as the Green Arrow, Stephen Amell was dressed as The Flash, Melissa Benoist was there as Supergirl, and Tyler Hoechlin was there..... dressed in his traditional red & blue Superman attire, which after the spoiler photo Stephen posted earlier this week, was a mild surprise to me. On this particular day, they filmed several scenes in downtown Vancouver for"The Flash". I didnt see every scene shot, because some of them were happening while I was checking on other things at set. But heres a list of what I do recall. - Green Arrow bike riding stunt. Ends with GA being thrown thru the air. - Green Arrow (Grant Gustin) does a scene where he is on a built up table that he had to use a ladder to get onto. He starts laying down on it, then pops up into the sitting position before making a move that I think might have been drawing his bow. - The Flash (Stephen Amell) does a scene where he seemingly just darts away. I didnt have the best angle for it. I also saw Daniel Cudmore there on stilts at that time.... but I dont believe he was filming in that specific scene, or if he was, it was completely out of my view. - Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) shoots a scene where she lands down on the ground, then gets up and stares (probably heat vision?) at something taller than her, I BELIEVE Daniels character, as I saw him around there at that time. - Green Arrow on roof. First with stunt man, then later briefly with Grant. Scene sees GA shooting his bow at something or someone. - The Flash, Superman and Supergirl team up to fight Daniels character. Hes now down at their level, and the two Supes are holding an arm each while Flash is holding him from behind. They did this with the stunts team first, then Stephen and Tyler Hoechlin did the scene with Supergirls stunt double. - Somewhere in the mix was a scene with The Flash running out of the way as Green Arrow was riding in on his motorcycle. But I was busy with something else when that scene took place. Grant Gustin was dressed as the Green Arrow, Stephen Amell was dressed as The Flash, Melissa Benoist was there as Supergirl, and Tyler Hoechlin was there..... dressed in his traditional red & blue Superman attire, which after the spoiler photo Stephen posted earlier this week, was a mild surprise to me. Also in the photo set, Jensen Ackles from the TV show "Supernatural" who came by to visit with Stephen, and watched a bit of Grant shooting a scene up on a roof top. The day included a bike stunt, as well as a superhero team up scene where Flash, Supergirl & Superman try to defeat an Amazo played by Daniel Cudmore. This year, only 3 of their 4 shows are taking part, with Legends Of Tomorrow taking a pass on this one. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up for the event. On this particular day, they filmed several scenes in downtown Vancouver for the "Supergirl" part of the crossover. Funny enough, with no main Supergirl cast, and only 1 of the 4 scenes shot even had a Supergirl guest star in it. Tyler Hoechlin was seen on set, and as Stephen Amell showed in a tweet yesterday, Superman has some new threads for this crossover event. Lucky Stephen was willing to share with you all, because when Tyler was down on ground level (they were filming on top of a parkade) he was more modest about showing off his new duds. Covering up the Man Of Steel outfit as much as he could.I managed a few photos that JUST catches the top of the logo before he covered up even more. There were two other scenes shot during the day that I didn't get any photos of the cast at. One in Oceanic Plaza, which is used by EVERYONE at some point, they had a scene where a group of spectators were watching something happen in the sky, but no actors were there for it. Then after the roof top scene, was a scene in an alley where they were using a drone to film... something? Whatever it was, it wasn't actors, I can tell you that much. A bit later I caught up with Stephen and Grant Gustin filming at a different location. While I had seen both of them at the roof top location, it was only for brief moments as they wanted to & from the set from their trailers. Grant once, noticed me there taking photos, and waved, then showed off his new attire, trying to put on a bad boy sneer with it. Of course, since I wasn't given prior warning to his plans, I both missed the wave, and him flaunting the wardrobe off to me, as I had started shooting too late to catch the wave, and ended too soon to catch the showing off in its entirety. At the other location Stephen, as Oliver Queen. Grant as Barry Allen, both shot a scene where the pair stormed down a street together, running into an apartment building before getting into an altercation inside the building. The pair were both dressed like boyband members pretending to be hoodlums. They had jackets on that said "Trigger Twins" on them. All I could think when I heard the term was how often triggered is used on the internet, and wondered, are Barry & Oliver internet vigilantes? But in all seriousness, the pair shot this series of scenes there, before they took a break. When they went on their break, I left, because I really didn't think anything more special would be happening. Sometimes I get this wrong... this was 1 of those rare occurrences. Barely after I got home & took my shoes off, I got a DM from a twitter user that was there @themyscirabound telling me Stephen showed back up, in full GREEN ARROW wardrobe. I asked Themyscirabound if she felt like sending me a couple photos to put in this post, and she agreed, so if you use any of the photos of Stephen in the Green Arrow attire below, credit HER.
