The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes on Friday in downtown Vancouver as part of their 3 day shoot in the downtown area. My other previous finale set blog posts are HERE and HERE. On set for these scenes were Grant Gustin as The Flash, Tom Cavanagh as Eobard Thawne, Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Jordan Fisher as Impulse, and Kausar Mohammed as Fast Track. Scenes on this night had the 4 hero speedsters facing off against Thawne in a cased in courtyard with extras running around a little bit early on in the scene. Eventually the 4 heroes confront Thawne, and XS yells out at him "its 4 against 1 Thawne". Then shortly after the 4 heroes zip out of frame. A bit later they do more of the scene, with Thawne standing in the middle looking around, as if he is unsure where an attack might be coming from, then they pause, the 4 heroes come in & all make a throwing action at him simultaneously, hitting Thawne, sending him to the ground. Then there is another pause with Flash & Flast Track standing over the body of Thawne, and Tom gets up and leaves the scene, and Jordan comes in & takes his place, then they unpause, and Flash, XS & Fast Track hurry over to the body of Impulse now laying on the ground. Another pause, Thawne comes back in, this time behind them. The trio turn around to see Thawne there, then there is another pause, and everyone leaves except Flash & Thawne, they have a few words, before Flash runs after Thawne, and thats the end of the scene. After that, they went on lunch, I called it a day, and thus, also called it a season on The Flash as this was the last public location shoot for them this season. They officially wrap the entire season on Monday April 25th. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes earlier this week in downtown Vancouver for 3 nights. This blog post is just for the 1st two nights. This was for the season 8 finale, episode 820. The production closed down 1 whole block in front of our hockey arena, Rogers Arena. Along with that, at other points of the shoot, they had a couple other roads completely blocked off to traffic & pedestrians. On Wednesday night, in continual rain, the cast & crew shot scenes with Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Tom Cavanagh as some version of Eobard Thawne (he was referred to as "NRF" on a storyboard I happened to see for 1 of the scenes). In the scene, the 2 are having an altercation in a parking lot, when Barry seems to get frozen, as if he is in Flashtime, and Thoawne walks around him acting all boastful, a Police Car zips in during in (why it wasnt also frozen.... thats for the writers to explain) and Thawne blows it up. All the while, Barry is frozen still in a defensive pose. I also saw 1 scene they did a couple takes of where Barry just comes running into the parking lot from the street, and that was about all there was on that night that I saw. On Thursday night I got down the set a little later than the night before, knowing this time it was going to be a full night shoot. When I got there, it was clear they were planning to do a different stunt at some point, as they had a crane set up to lift someone in the sky. For the 1st couple hours, nothing much happened, except getting the stunt team prepped to do a stunt. At 1 point they did a stunt where the doubles for Flash & Thawne are thrown into the air in opposite directions (I missed it somehow, but you can find it on twitter HERE.). I saw them working on 1 stunt where they were raising the Thawne double high into the air. Unfortunately, a random lightning strike paused their work on that stunt, and the whole production shut down for about 45-60 minutes while they waited to make sure there was not more troublesome weather. By they time they were getting ready to work again, I had gotten tired, cold, and sore enough to consider leaving, and had decided next train I saw coming in, I was taking it. While I was waiting, they called 1st team rehearsals, which I thought was odd, since it was clearly the stunt team working last I saw. Instead of just stunts now though, they had cast on set. Grant Gustin was laying down in the middle of the road, he had his rain gear on over his costume, so there was no identifying markings it was him, except the gold boots. At 1st I thought it might be him because I thought I saw gold boots. But when I looked at the person laying on the ground, I couldnt see any of the boots, and assumed it was a random Cop from the blown up CCPD car maybe because of the all black outfit he was wearing. I was again, about to leave, when I saw something I wasnt expecting to see. A man in blue pants, red jacket, wearing a big metal brimmed hat go running into the street with a woman. I grabbed my binoculars again, looked and confirmed what I thought I was seeing, it was John Wesley Shipp & Candice Patton. Suddenly I realized that WAS Grant in the middle of the road, and I hurried over to a better spot to start shooting. They packed a lot of parts of scenes into the time I was there, trying to make up for the hour they had to shut down. Inside the parking lot, they had Thawne looking all menacing facing Barry, while Iris & Jay Garrick were standing 15 feet away from them. Iris yells "Flash, you have to stop". Iris holding her head at times. Next they are out on the street. Out there Iris & Jay find Barry, on the ground, just starting to get up. Barry & Iris hug for a long period, before Jay rushes Iris out of there after Barry says something to them. They then had 3 speedsters join Barry, Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Jordan Fisher as Impulse, and Kausar Mohammed as Fast Track, with a new cowl, joined the Scarlet Speedster. Barrys kids rush over to hug their dad, as Fast Track stands near by. They then have their moment broken up by something in the sky that they all turn to look up at. A bit later, they finally did the stunt with the Thawne double high in the air. Barry is sitting on the ground, against the building and is yelling at him while Thawne is making lots of "aggghhh" type sounds with his arms stretched out. At 2 points, he makes a clap, before going back into the arms stretched out point. aaaannd that was it for these 2 nights in the parking lot. There was 1 more location shoot the next night, that I will have a blog up for in the next couple days. After catching them at several locations for the penultimate episode (their 150th episode) earlier this month, I wondered if I would see them out for the finale as much. Last 2 nights, I got my first look at them on location for the season 7 finale. As I reported in my 1st report on the finale HERE, The Flash cast & crew were doing scenes around Science World. On this night, they were working on continuations from the night befores big fight. Grant Gustin was there as The Flash, Tom Cavanagh as Reverse Flash, and recently identified by Youtuber Pagey, (and confirmed by me at the set after he told me the name) Karan Oberoi was there as Godspeed. Their stunt doubles were all there too, as you can see from 1 of the photos below where all 6 of them are in 1 shot between takes, but I saw almost no use of them while I was there, only 1 I saw being used was Godspeeds double. Unlike the night prior, these scenes had a different twist on what we were seeing shot the night before. This time, we see Godspeed seemingly beating The Flash again, doing his chest power suction thing, when this time Reverse Flash sneaks up on Godspeed, waits for him to turn around, and stabs him thru the chest with 1 of those mystery green sticks. Godspeed crumples to the ground, seemingly dead. Barry run over to check on him, seeming to show concern for the fallen "god", then yells at Reverse Flash "what have you done?", the pair then stand and have a conversation, Barry obviously looking displeased, while Eobard stood there with an I did what had to be done because you wouldnt feel to his posture. Then we see Thawne try to punch Barry, and Barry dips out of the way (similar to what I saw Mirror Monarch do to him back earlier this season) and as his fist goes by his face, Barry grabs Reverse Flashs arm, and simulates a hip toss, sending Eobard about 60 feet away onto the ground. When he gets up, Barry zips over, and they have ANOTHER conversaiton, where Eobard yells at Barry "I made you", before looking at himself with his arms down in front of him for some reason, then they stand off for a few more seconds (maybe Barry speaks? I didnt have a good view of his side), before Reverse Flash runs off. Barry then turns around, and runs over to the body of Godspeed, and the scene ends. There will be some video from these scenes to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. You may NOT make 3 posts of just 1 part. Please make note of this rare bonus permission. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 522 Wednesday night and Thursday night in Granville Plaza. Oddly enough, a location they used for last years finale. This time however, they were calling it "Central City Plaza" and had a fake hotel sign out there. The scene had Grant Gustin as The Flash, Carlos Valdes as Vibe, Danielle Panabaker as Killer Frost, Hartley Sawyer as Elongated Man, Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS and Candice Patton as Iris West Allen shooting a scene with 1 other vry notable cast member on set. Tom Cavanagh was also there, but this time, not as Sherloque Wells, but as long time recurring villain Reverse Flash. Unlike the day before, when I showed up to a shoot for The Flash that lasted less than 2 hours, they used up every second they could this time, as the filming notices they have to hand out to businesses said they would film till 5:30 AM, and I can confirm that at almost 5 AM, a couple cast members were still there filming when I finally left. It is quite rare for an overnight shoot to use up every minute they can. Usually these notices say "5:30" but they are usually done by "3:00" (or some time frame around couple hours short of what they say they need). Of course the big spoiler on this set was that Grant Gustin had his 3 dogs at the set...... okay, and I guess, the Reverse Flash at some point gets out and is causing havoc. I was unable to confirm if this scene is in current day, or in 2049. But with the entire hero squad, and their blogger friend there, I feel it was a current day scene. The scene seemed to be splintered into parts, so I was really unable to really follow what all happens. All I can say is, the whole team lines up against Reverse Flash and lots of talking seems to take place. At one point they did a scene with just Flash & RF, and it seems like Flash AGAIN lets RF run away. But I cant say with certainty since like I said, the scene really seemed to be broken down into a lot of small parts that could play out in any random order on screen. There are MANY MORE photos from this set, but I wanted to get a few up right away for everyone to start talking about. So check back in a day or 2 to see a few more. I also have some photos from a daytime scene from the day before this shoot of Grant and Candice doing a scene, I will try to get to that this weekend. But obviously because of the importance of these scenes, I had to work on this one first. UPDATED: APRIL 12, 2019 - 12:30 AM - An extra photo added from Twitter user @TheMysciraBound that I asked her to send me, because it was a bit more crisp & clear front shot than any I got of Reverse Flash (I believe for a stunt scene). UPDATED: APRIL 16, 2019 - 7:45 PM - More photos added, from night 2 of filming at the bottom. Plus some details on the last night of filming. The Flash returns to TV for the end of season run on The CW in the U.S. on Tuesday after a few weeks off with the episode that I shot a couple months ago HERE and a short video HERE. If you want to see my past behind the scene shots for The Flash go HERE If you want to see my autograph gallery for The Flash go HERE Night 2 of shooting had much of the same..... except this time, there was the always present random smoke that The CW shows love to use so much. I think maybe 3 or 4 times in my life have I walked down a street or past an alley and seen as much steam/smoke coming out of it as these shows claim exists. Sometimes I find the smoky effect helps with photos, sometimes it hinders. On this night, I would say hinders. Especially when saddled with the fact I had to shoot from an extra 25 metres away this time. All the same cast were on set, again, shooting scenes with all the heroes, and Iris, facing off against Thawne. I saw moments where Killer Frost, Vibe, and Elongated Man, all at different times, seemed to be trying to use their powers. I am not sure what the context was of them using them, but each of them at some point seem to be using their special skills in this battle. At the end of the night, which was just a shade before 5:30 AM, the cast left. I chatted with Grant about his new hairdo while signed a few autographs for me, and he assured me it wont be on screen like that. He was going to be in his costume for the scenes after when he got the cut, so it was all good for continuity. So dont worry fans, Barry did not lose a fight with a razor. I chatted with Hartley and Jessica for a moment, and told both of them to enjoy their breaks, and they both thanked me for saying so. Of course, the big moment came when Carlos Valdes was leaving. I asked him again, as I did back during filming for episode 17, if he was coming back. This time, his answer was an emphatic "of course", and I said "ok, great, guess I'll see you next season" and he replied back "and I'll see YOU next season". So it sounds like you can count in Carlos for at least 1 more season on The Flash. That was the end of season 5 of The Flash filming. Enjoy these extra few (albeit quite grainy/fuzzy due to how far away I had to stand) photos from night #2 of filming. The Flash films scenes for the season 2 premiere in downtown Vancouver on a couple different days8/9/2015 The Flash filmed some scenes in downtown Vancouver earlier in July for the season 2 premiere.
The first day they shot scenes in a large park in the West End for "Flash Day" in Central City. I missed all the actual filming, but I did get there in time to see Carlos Valdez on lunch and meet Adam Copeland (aka Edge from WWE) who was guest starring in the episode. A couple days later, I caught up with them shooing in an alley a block from BC Place. There was very little to be seen there due to the way the alley was set up. Again Adam Copeland was on set, along with Grant Gustin dressed in his standard Flash suit with the red logo still being repped (spoiler alert for those not on the internet in the last 3 weeks and this is the first thing you are seeing... a change is coming to the logo SOON). The most interesting thing from this shoot wasn't the actors on set. It was a new prop that I'm assuming the CCPD has. As much as I love the Flash, I am a little disappointed to see them so blatantly rip off an idea from another superhero show. The Flash now has his own version of The Bat Signal. I also added a few pics of the cast of The Flash going to & returning from Comic-Con weekend. Grant, Carlos, Tom Cavanagh, Victor Garber and Candice Patton. An earlier scene was shot inside upstairs with Tom Cavanagh. Then as he left, those needed for the exterior scene arrived. Grant Gustin was in his Flash attire, and I I saw Patrick Sabongui on set as Captain Singh, but it was dark & he was far away, so I never got any good shots of him. The scene is pretty cut & dry. People in an apartment/business tower evacuate as fire & police show up. Then, lastly, The Flash comes to the door & speeds away. THIS BLOG MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 118 OR 119. If you have not seen these episodes and want to avoid potential mild spoilers to them. DO NOT continue reading or viewing the photos.. . . last warning . . I ran into The Flash a couple times in mid February, as they shot scenes for episode 118 (and possibly 119) The 1st set I know were for 118 as Emily Kinney and Amanda Pays were on set that day. The shoot took place at a massive business park in South Burnaby that's used by most productions at some point. The shoot was all interiors, but I can tell you I saw Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett, Tom Cavanagh along with previously mentioned 2 guest stars there that night. Uunfortunately, the location left no chances to shoot any parts of the scenes. However, meeting the cast was plausible. I went out there that day & night to meet The Walking Dead star Emily Kinney. While I did meet everyone else that was there that night, Ms. Kinney was less than receptive to meeting fans at any time I was there. Allegedly she met fans earlier in the day, but, during the 11 hrs I spent there, she never did. Even as she wrapped, and KNEW the whole TWO of us that were there were still waiting, and that she had earlier denied when she said "I just got to go to set (a small lie... she went to set 20 mins later.. after going to hair & make up, then coming back to her trailer for a few mins), so its not like she didn't know why we were there.... she speed walked from her transport vehicle, into her trailer, they speed walked from her trailer to her awaiting shuttle vehicle. I rarely take it too personally if a celeb denies signing for me. I get it. But this particular instance, I took pretty personally. She COULD have said "no" one of the 3 or 4 times prior, or even as she was leaving for the night. Instead, just left the pair of us there hanging. Classless move by her. A simple "no" would have solved everything. This episode of The Flash comes up this week. Just two days after that I found the set for The Flash 2 times that day. First up was a shoot at Victory Square with Danielle Panabaker as Caitlyn Snow and Candice Patton as Iris West and a young girl. It was hard to make out what all was going on in the scene, but it appeared the little girl was speaking quite annoyed/angrily at Iris and Caitlyn who were in a car. Unfortunately, I got there near the end of their shoot, so I never saw a lot of the scene, just 3 or 4 takes. While I was there, I saw Grant Gustin show up for reasons I do not know (he never did any scenes there...and seemingly wasn't there very long). Shortly after, the crew moved to their second location, about a 20 minute walk away at a residential area in Strathcona. At the 2nd location there was not much to see besides the actors going in or coming out of the house they were shooting at. I've been to sets like this 100X, they are pretty bland, mundane interaction experiences that don't require a lot of "security". However, this particular small, irrelevant set had more security than most high profile big budget films do. I even asked the 1 main guard what the deal was, he responded that he was just as perplexed by it as we were. There was no spoilers to be seen as they were filming indoors, the wasn't even any "special guest stars" of note to hide. This really shouldn't have been a "high security" situation, and as I pointed out to the main guard, and he seconded my observation, MOST of the security they had brought in were utterly pointless & more in the way than anything they were "guarding". I got a few pics of Rick and Grant coming out of the house 1 take, then left.... which was for the best Just as I got to the porch of my house, which was only a 8-10 minute walk away, the skies opened up and a substantially intense downpour erupted for the next 1/2 hour or so. Had I been even 2 minutes longer, I would have got soaked to the bone... so I guess the extra security and interior shoot DID something positive for me, it inspired me to leave early. The scenes on that 2nd day I believe are for episode 19, but could be 18 just because of how close it was to the filming date of the scenes that I know were for 18. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
