The Flash cast & crew filmed this past Thursday, into early Friday morning at Science World, in the far north east part of downtown Vancouver. This is for the season 9 finale, the series finale, and the Arrowverse finale. It is directed by Vanessa Parise. This is the same location that they used for the season 7 finale where Godspeed, Reverse Flash, and The Flash had that famous lightning light saber battle. This time, a few more people would be on the set. Early in the day, I got there while they were still setting up. It was going to be cold that night, and I was hoping to get some photos of them rehearsing before it got too cold. Unfortunately, they didnt start rehearsing till it was plenty dark, and already cold. They started with some stunts, featuring the stunt double for Cobalt Blue out on the set. He went up to a car, and shoved it aggressively, which I assume set off the chain reaction that some may have seen in the explosion scene in this video on tiktok. I missed it, as I was across the street in a buddies car getting warm, but we could see it easily enough from the car, as the fireballs were all several feet high, clearing all the equipment that was between us & the set. After they did that explosion scene, there was a scene where someone went through a glass sign (the one I photographed in the daytime), then after cleaning up all that, they started shooting with cast. It was already late & cold by then, and I was only saved by bringing hand warmers with me, and a couple times sitting in a car. Without those, I would have left several hours earlier. On set for this massive scene was several actors, and a couple stunt doubles. First off, people you might have expected to be around. Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Jon Cor as Chillblaine, aaaaand Danielle Panabaker as Khione. But they were not the only cast out there, there was a roster of speedster villains against them. Rick Cosnett was out there as Cobalt Blue, Teddy Sears was there as Zoom, and a bit of an unexpected shock was Tom Cavanagh back as Reverse Flash, as he had not been announced as being back, unlike the other two. With them were stunt doubles filling the suits of Savitar, and Godspeed. Also on set was Cody Laudan as The Flash. Oddly, Grant Gustin did not work all night (this is quite odd.. only other time I have seen that was one time when Grant got snowed in back east, and 1 other time on another show when an actor got too sick to work on short notice). The scenes did not seem to have a lot in the way of action going on. It essentially had the 5 villains in a row, facing the 6 Team Flash members all standing in a row. It gave us a bit better look at Ceciles costume, which the first set I shot her at, didnt give me the impression the suit was blue, but now I could clearly see it is. Allegra might have had a suit as well, but couldnt be so certain. Khiones wardrobe was seemingly a more toned down old Frost costume, with a more modest look to it. Also, whether you like him or not, you have to give your full respect to Jon Cor as Chillblaine, he was out there SHIRTLESS with his jacket wide open, in below freezing conditions (the temperatures ranged from -1C to -7C on the night) for the scenes. For the most part, the villains team seemed to have Cobalt Blue doing the majority of the dialogue, but it really was hard to be sure, as I was shooting all of it from about a football field away. On Team Flash, I never really got the impression anyone specific was controlling the dialogue there, but again, they had their backs to me for the entire scene. During 1 break, we got to talk to Teddy Sears for a few minutes, while he signed autographs He said he was excited to be back, and thanked all the fans who campaigned for him to return, because he really wanted to come back, and kept checking in with them himself to see if they wanted him to come back, and only got the word about 2 weeks out from filming. I also chatted very briefly with Tom Cavanagh, and finally met Kayla Compton for the 1st time. This MIGHT be the last location shoot the show ever has downtown. They did have another one the very next night, in a city 30 minutes away, that seemed to just be a lot of Godspeeds doing a stunt scene. As of right now, there are no more sets known yet. They only have a week of filming left to do, as they wrap on March 6, 2023. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. A place they have filmed multiple times this season, including just a few weeks earlier for this set. On this day, they were doing a night shoot, with The Flash star Kayla Compton directing. I showed up far too earlier, but that did give me the chance to look around, and get an idea of what might be filmed that night. Early on I noticed right away they had a bunch of grave markers set up. I hastily shot as many as I could, hoping to get some cool sneak peak spoiler, but alas, none of the ones I shot in the park had any spoilery names on them. BUT, they did tell a different part of the story, this scene was going to be set in the future, as there were grave markers spanning several decades, all the way into the 2040s. If you dont know, TV set "grave markers" are made from styrofoam, which is of course light, and easy to carry. Unfortunately, this also makes them easy to knock over by any wind. On this day, we were under a severe wind advisory, as possible gusts of up to 90 KM/H were expected, and sure enough, the wind played havoc on the set. The wind knocked over a about 20% of their markers. They had small pegs in the ground to hold them in place, but they were no contest for the intense winds, so they started having to use larger sticks on the back, propping the markers up, to give it more support. Unfortunately, I was TOO early, and had to kill a lot of time before the equipment trucks even started rolling in. When they finally did, I paid attention to all the cast trailers that came in as close as I could. I didnt know it yet, but this was going to be mostly wasted time. I saw the 1st trailers for cast members come in with the name "Allegra" & "Allegra stunts" on it, and then shortly after a trailer for "director" (and a name I didnt catch), which happens to also be the actress playing Allegra, so that was kinda odd to me. Things only got weirder, next ones said "Taylor" & "Aartz" on them, which are members of the Central City Citizen. The last trailer to come in had 2 names I wasnt expecting "Malcolm" & "Speed Force Nora". Shortly after the trailers came in, I walked around, and thats when I saw the uncovered tombstone of "Edward Thawne" on a small platform they had built in the parking lot that looked similar to the graveyard in the park, but more tighter for close up scenes. I then went back to the set in the park to see if I saw the same thing there. Unfortunately, that one was still covered. I then was hanging around near the parking lot again, killing time. While I was hanging around, I noticed 1 crew member changing out the name tags on the trailers. The two CCC members names were switched out for "Producer" and "writer", which of course was not helpful for me. A few minutes later, he would return, and this time he changed out Malcolm and Speed Force Nora names to "Eddie" & "Korber" (the officer who gets like 1 line every 5 to 7 eps). All I can assume is the names on the trailers when they came in were from earlier in the day scenes at the studio, or yesterdays scenes at the studio. It is very common for trailers that dont house the main cast, to change out daily, I had just never seen it happen in real time, shortly before cast were about to show up. About half an hour later, I saw Rick Cosnett show up. He went into his trailer, and headed off to hair & make up. While he was gone doing that, someone showed up that headed into Korbers trailer (I didnt see if it was Stephanie Izsak for certain or not, but it was a woman, and they didnt immediately come back out, so I assume it was). Almost an hour later, Rick returned to his trailer from h&m, went inside for about 5 mins, before an AD knocked on his door to tell him they were ready for him and he came back out in Eddie attire & headed to the set that you see the photos from below. The scene they shot while I was there was pretty hard to get all the details, because of how far away I had to be from the scene (even though its a public park, during filming, they do have this large area kinda cordoned off for them.). For rehearsals, I wasnt TOO far away, but there was so much crew there with their umbrellas all open (it was pouring rain at the time), I couldnt see much. What was absolutely clear, was Rick Cosnett was at a grave, digging it up in a furiously fast manner. After rehearsals, I moved to try and find a view not blocked by a sea of umbrellas, and thats where I got the shots from that little nook way off in the distance that I posted the photo of, to show you how far away it was. At one point, the camera pans upward to look from up high, directly down into the grave, where Rick would still be. What does he find in there? I dont know. There was no loud sounds, or items he dragged out of it. Just him digging into it. The weather was cold, it had rained on & off all evening, and was now dark out, and the park is full of coyotes (as you can see from the 1 photo I posted below from earlier in the day. I saw at least 3 different ones while I was there). So I did something really rare for me, I quit this set at like 7 PM, even though I knew they would still be filming for another 6+ hours. But what I got while I was there, definitely has some theory video makers minds working overtime. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. On Feb 14, 2023, the cast & crew returned to the park to do another night of shooting the scene. Unfortunately, they were unable to finish their work at the previous set because of the weather, so they were back. This time I managed to get a couple new details I didnt get the last time. First, I got a photo of the Eddie grave in the park, and not the one that was in the parking lots secondary scene, confirming these were in fact the same sets. From a filming aspect, the two details of note were, seeing Officer Korber pulling something that looks like a taser on Eddie, she then walks towards him & they have a talk. I picked up 1 other notable thing from this set, a very loud piece of audio from Eddie in the scene, where after Korber comes up to him, he exclaims in a loud shout "I AM EDDIE. I AM ALIVE. AND I NEED TO KNOW WHY". That was all I saw them film while I was there. But it adds more context to the scene that was not seen at the last set, so it warranted a rare update to one of my blog posts. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR A "THE FLASH" SEASON 8 EPISODE (I think its 6, but could be 7)?? , & MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . . If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. The Flash was on location for the season 8 in an area I have never seen anyone filming in previously in the downtown core, which is pretty rare (someone may have been there before, I personally just didnt know about it). At the beginning, they had Jesse L Martin as Joe West there doing a scene with someone we heard was coming back (if you keep your ear to the ground on what main websites were posting about the show) Rick Cosnett was back as Eddie Thawne. To begin, they rush in to the area in their police car. Then Eddie goes running off with his gun out, while Joe stays behind. In their scene, a man comes out of a jewellery store just covered in jewellery. Joe & the crook then have a stand off, where the crook tells Joe he has a real gun with real bullets, while Eddie was off to the side hiding behind a tree. Then 2 more characters come in. Jordan Fisher as Bart Allen, and Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora West Allen show up. Something startles them. They then have a debate about what to do. Then Jordan rushes in, and does something to the crook that takes the gun out of his hands, and Joe goes over and arrests the guy, and Eddie comes in to collect the gun off the ground. That was more or less everything they shot. Because of the order they shot, and angles they shot.... I dont really know the exact point where pieces overlapped. At the end of my time there, they shot 1 more scene with a mystery woman (I thought at 1st it could be Britnie Oldford as Peek-A-Boo... but wasnt 100% sure. Kinda dont think it is though.) standing behind a car with a couple other people. Only reason I dont think she was an extra is because main hair & make up team worked on her, and she had a costumes jacket for the weather. If you have not seen this episode yet, and want to avoid any possible spoilers for it, do not continue reading or viewing any of the photos. . . . last warning . . As some of you who follow me on twitter recall, I caught The Flash shooting their penultimate episode "Rogue Air", directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, of their inagural season down at BC Place in late March a couple times. The first shoot was a stunt scene filmed at the side of B.C. Place in the early evening. It had the Reverse Flash falling from high up. The scene probably will make more sense on TV, but my guess is he falls from the top of S.T.A.R. labs, which BC Place often stands in for on exterior shoots. I also saw the stunt man for The Flash, Cody Laudan there, but did not see him partake in a stunt during my limited time there. Another man went up as well, dressed in just some stunt gear rigging. The first shoot that I saw with actors included of course the now well known, thanks to their promo pics, stand off with Arrow star Stephen Amell guest starring along side, Grant Gustin & Robbie Amell facing off against Tom Cavanagh at Terry Fox Plaza. The crew did a great job of using the statues that get larger in size of the Canadian Cancer awareness icon Terry Fox as placing spots to put a "STAR Labs" sign. While they did spend much of a night there filming this scene, not a lot seemed to be apparent from it to the rare few onlookers that stayed around till well after midnight to see the scenes shot. Besides the fact that Arrow in his Warith al Ghul outfit, The Flash & Ronnie Raymond in his Firestorm outfit were facing off against Eobard Thawne in his Reverse Flash outfit, there seemed to be very little in the way of action at this point, and any dialogue that took place happened when we were too far back to really hear it. In any case, with the earlier stunt I saw performed, and these 4 on the concourse, I am sure all hell is about to break loose in Central City. PS - Yes, I am aware many of these shots were used in a previous blog post about this episode. Just re-posting them in here for new viewers, and a couple newer ones were added. A couple days later they were back at B.C. Place shooting more exterior scenes. They started with a daytime scene that had Rick Cosnett and Candice Patton walking along at what seemed like a Central City Police Station set up. The topic of their conversation was not apparent to me at the time of the filming...but knowing what I know after the fact. It clearly revolves around Eddie Thawne's proposal to Iris west, as Iris is holding the green ring box Eddie had. From the body language of the scene, I am guessing Iris did not react with the overwhelming excitement she might have before Eddie was grabbed by Eobard. After they were done shooting, I told my friend to wait where we were, as the rest of the fans moved on to Terry Fox Plaza to see the crew set up the next scene. Eventually Rick & Candice came out where they were filming tog et into their shuttle vans, and signed for the 4 or 5 of us that were smart enough to realize what was happening. After that scene, there was prep work being done for a stunt scene that was going to happen later with Simon Burnett, the stunt man for Stephen Amell's Arrow character. The weather was at best, unpleasant that evening, and after a quick dinner at Boston Pizza, my friend & I decided to opt out of waiting around for the scene that had MANY more onlookers around for it than there was at the shoot a couple days prior. We saw Tom Cavanagh leave after rehearsals, and tried tog et him but he said he would get us when he returned.... so we waited a bit longer for him to come back. When he did, my friend & I got a couple autographs from Tom Cavanagh as he arrived to film, after the security team tried to sneak him in by driving him 50 ft up from where the crowd had huddled under the awning of the Boston Pizza. We opted to risk the wind & rain to get tom & he rewarded us for our effort. Asd we were leaving, I noticed him stop to shake hands with someone, it was Stephen Amell. We packed up our things and took off from the wind & rain that was beating down on the set by that point. The Flash is in this years May madness tournament along with Barry Allen/The Flash. The Flash autographs can be found HERE The Flash airs TONIGHT (May 12, 2015) on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. The season finale will be next Tuesday May 19, 2015. A couple months ago I caught the cast & crew of The Flash shooting a couple scenes in the Chinatown area of Vancouver. One of the scenes was a short shoot with Grant Gustin and Rick Cosnett for an episode that already aired. The other, was for a scene that I believe will be in tonights episode (based on the shooting schedule I feel it was for tonights ep.... could be next weeks) with Grant and Jesse L. Martin and an actor I didn't get the name of. In this scene, we see The Flash and Det. Joe West dressed in combat gear out on a street with a armoured truck stopped. There is a scene where The Flash speeds into the scene & body checks one of the bad guys into the side of the truck (thats gotta hurt). Earlier in the day they shot a scene around the corner with a woman (Jane Hancock) walking some kids to an ice cream truck. Not sure what the scene was setting up, but I have to assume 1 of the people in the scene was relevant to the episode. I took some pics of the scene at the time, but wasnt happy enough with them. So I didnt add any to this post. The Flash & Barry Allen are in this years May Madness tournament to find everyones favorite TV Show & Character. Going on RIGHT NOW. You can vote HERE. The Flash cast autographs can be found HERE The Flash airs Tuesday nights on The CW in the U.S. & on CTV in Canada THIS BLOG MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 118 OR 119. If you have not seen these episodes and want to avoid potential mild spoilers to them. DO NOT continue reading or viewing the photos.. . . last warning . . I ran into The Flash a couple times in mid February, as they shot scenes for episode 118 (and possibly 119) The 1st set I know were for 118 as Emily Kinney and Amanda Pays were on set that day. The shoot took place at a massive business park in South Burnaby that's used by most productions at some point. The shoot was all interiors, but I can tell you I saw Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett, Tom Cavanagh along with previously mentioned 2 guest stars there that night. Uunfortunately, the location left no chances to shoot any parts of the scenes. However, meeting the cast was plausible. I went out there that day & night to meet The Walking Dead star Emily Kinney. While I did meet everyone else that was there that night, Ms. Kinney was less than receptive to meeting fans at any time I was there. Allegedly she met fans earlier in the day, but, during the 11 hrs I spent there, she never did. Even as she wrapped, and KNEW the whole TWO of us that were there were still waiting, and that she had earlier denied when she said "I just got to go to set (a small lie... she went to set 20 mins later.. after going to hair & make up, then coming back to her trailer for a few mins), so its not like she didn't know why we were there.... she speed walked from her transport vehicle, into her trailer, they speed walked from her trailer to her awaiting shuttle vehicle. I rarely take it too personally if a celeb denies signing for me. I get it. But this particular instance, I took pretty personally. She COULD have said "no" one of the 3 or 4 times prior, or even as she was leaving for the night. Instead, just left the pair of us there hanging. Classless move by her. A simple "no" would have solved everything. This episode of The Flash comes up this week. Just two days after that I found the set for The Flash 2 times that day. First up was a shoot at Victory Square with Danielle Panabaker as Caitlyn Snow and Candice Patton as Iris West and a young girl. It was hard to make out what all was going on in the scene, but it appeared the little girl was speaking quite annoyed/angrily at Iris and Caitlyn who were in a car. Unfortunately, I got there near the end of their shoot, so I never saw a lot of the scene, just 3 or 4 takes. While I was there, I saw Grant Gustin show up for reasons I do not know (he never did any scenes there...and seemingly wasn't there very long). Shortly after, the crew moved to their second location, about a 20 minute walk away at a residential area in Strathcona. At the 2nd location there was not much to see besides the actors going in or coming out of the house they were shooting at. I've been to sets like this 100X, they are pretty bland, mundane interaction experiences that don't require a lot of "security". However, this particular small, irrelevant set had more security than most high profile big budget films do. I even asked the 1 main guard what the deal was, he responded that he was just as perplexed by it as we were. There was no spoilers to be seen as they were filming indoors, the wasn't even any "special guest stars" of note to hide. This really shouldn't have been a "high security" situation, and as I pointed out to the main guard, and he seconded my observation, MOST of the security they had brought in were utterly pointless & more in the way than anything they were "guarding". I got a few pics of Rick and Grant coming out of the house 1 take, then left.... which was for the best Just as I got to the porch of my house, which was only a 8-10 minute walk away, the skies opened up and a substantially intense downpour erupted for the next 1/2 hour or so. Had I been even 2 minutes longer, I would have got soaked to the bone... so I guess the extra security and interior shoot DID something positive for me, it inspired me to leave early. The scenes on that 2nd day I believe are for episode 19, but could be 18 just because of how close it was to the filming date of the scenes that I know were for 18. Guess we'll find out soon enough. The Flash returns from its 1 week hiatus Tuesday on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. You can see more of my Flash blog posts HERE. My Flash autographs for sale can be found HERE. THIS POST CONTAINS PHOTOS & A BREIF DESCRIPTION OF SCENES SHOT FOR EPISODE 108 "THE FLASH VS ARROW" A FEW WEEKS AGO. If you have not yet seen the episode, and do not want to read or see any possible spoilers from it... please to don't continue reading the article, or viewing the photos . . . last chance . . So, as everyone reading this likely knows. Episode 8 of season 3 of Arrow, and season 1 of The Flash will be a cross over episode in which characters from both shows will be featured on each episode, starting with The Flash next Tuesday night & concluding the night after on Arrow. A few weeks ago, several scenes were shout downtown for The Flash episode, titled "The Flash VS Arrow". I intended to have some of these up sooner, and put up the final batch this week...but I got sidetracked. So, heres 1 whole megapost of pics from the 3 days of shoots. The 1st day was the only day I saw any members from Arrow on set shooting. Of course, it happened to be THE ARROW. Stephen Amell and his stunt double Simon Burnett were on the set shooting a scene with Grant Gustin & his stunt double Cody Laudan for the episode. I never really got a chance to SEE much of the scene, but it seemed to be some type of confrontation between the two heroes, which makes me think Flash VS Arrow is going to have some friction between the masked men. The next day saw scenes done in a building that featured Jesse L. Martin as Joe West. I also saw the stunt doubles of Grant Gustin & Stephen Amell around that day, but not sure what the scenes entailed since they were all indoors. On the final day, they had multiple scenes happen. First off was a scene where they had The Flash star Grant Gustin running into what seems to be the ONLY bank in Central City (and 1 that seems to have a lot of bad luck). They filmed a couple other scenes in & around the bank with guest star of the week Paul Anthony (aka Roy G. Bivolo aka - Chromo) who did a solo scene a block over earlier in the day that I'm guessing was of him getting ready to enter the bank....then he moved over to the actual bank set where he enters the bank and soon after scenes were shot where a scene like something out of the WWE Royal Rumble took place where everyone in the bank just started fighting each other. I honestly don't know what the scene will look like on camera, but from outside it looked pretty wild & funny. After the bank scene was shot. Grant Gustin poked his head out the door in his Barry Allen attire, waved at the fans standing across busy Pender Street. Then, in what has so far in the time The Flash has shot here, been a rare occurrence, a few seconds later, came back out and came across the street to meet the handful of fans before he headed off to lunch. After lunch, the crew & cast returned to a side street around the corner from the bank scene for a night stunt scene involving Grant Gustin, Rick Cosnett & Candice Patton and their stunt doubles.
The scene seems to have The Flash using his body to slow down/stop a car from hitting Eddie Thawne who was standing in the middle of the street. After Eddie jumps out of the way, The Flash comes over to him to confront detective pretty boy as Iris comes running in from the distance. This scene was an interesting one for me, because I never really thought Grant could muster up a menacing volume of speaking, but the verbal tongue lashing he put on Eddie there was quite intense. Needless to say if Iris was close enough to hear his conversation with Eddie, she would HAVE to know its Barry now after what he said, and as loud as he did. During 1 of the re-positions of the scene and equipment Grant came over to a couple of fans still waiting at the set in the early hours of the morning. He briefly chatted with them, but said he couldn't take photos while in the suit. I asked him if he could once the show airs (it had not aired yet) and he said "maybe".... so far, I haven't had the chance to test that. Shortly after, we were moved back further & I felt there was not much more I probably would see worth sticking around at such a late hour & went home. The Flash is currently up for several BEST OF TV AWARDS 2014 going on right now HERE. The Flash airs Tuesday nights on The CW in the U.S. and CTV in Canada. The Flash/Arrow cross over episodes will air December 2nd for The Flash, December 3rd for Arrow. |
