The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes on Monday & Tuesday in downtown Vancouver in an area they have been using quite frequently in the last couple years. Monday started with them filming inside the CBC Studio, which is a large TV & radio studio for Canada's National TV station, right in downtown Vancouver. This is the episode being directed by the show runner, Eric Wallace. I learned a couple of details on this day beyond what I physically saw, I will get on to that later. The days exterior scene had two returning characters on set filming. Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, was filming with Patrick Sabongui as David Singh. The setting seemed to be set in the past, maybe the 1980s, or 90s? Ads in the area including one for an older model computer, as well as ads for CC Jitters, and Big Belly Burger. As well, there was some older style cop cars there, with some older model civilian cars. On top of that, Joe was wearing a Police officer jacket, and Singhs hair looked different than it does these days. The scene had them investigating a crime scene in the middle of the street, with Singh walking up to Joe, saying a couple things, and then walking away to talk to other officers. Then Joe walks over & grabs something that was being described as a "crystal" off the ground (looks similar to the one we see at the end of season 8), puts it in his pocket, then Singh comes over to him & talks to him again, with Joe storming off, as Singh looks back at him suspiciously. I never got a photo of Joe with the crystal, so I had to take a screen cap from my videos to show you what it looked like in the photos below. Despite it being in plain view in this pic, in the majority of takes, he puts it in his pocket before Singh comes over (this might have been just a rehearsal take). Some of the photos I took over these two days, might look grainy/fuzzy, that is because I was shooting through a window in the library, as street angles were not always good. So if you see one that seems a little fuzzier, that might be why. This was essentially all they filmed for the time I was there. I had planned on coming back for the evening shoot, but got there too late. The film notice said they were supposed to be there till 9, and I got there just after 7 to find they had just wrapped shortly before I got there. When I got a chance to look at my photos from that day, I was more upset I missed it, as I found a piece of info in my photos that if I had seen it in real time, I wouldnt have left the set. On Tuesday, they were back in the same block. This time, two completely different returning guest stars were on the set, along with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. John Wesley Shipp was on set as Henry Allen, with Michelle Harrison as Nora Allen. The trio did a scene that had Henry & Nora walking together up the street. They then stopped at a CC Jitters kiosk, and grabbed a drink. They then were talking, when all of a sudden Barry is thrust into the area, falling into the middle of the street. The first while when I saw this scene being shot, I thought Barry got hit by a car, but after seeing more of it, from other angles, I now realize he got thrust TOWARDS the car, which stops just in front of him, after Henry runs out into the street & bangs on the hood of the car as it stops. Henry & Nora then run over to an onconscious Barry, and Nora gets on an old style flip phone, while Henry checks Barrys vitals. After a while, Grant & John left set, and they brought in the stunt doubles for them, while Michelle stayed to do the dialogue part of her characters scene, while Grants double gets thrown across the concrete, and Johns double runs out in front of the car. After that, they wrapped up that location & moved across the street. UNFORTUNATELY, like the first day, I misused my time, but in a different way this time. They moved across the street to shoot a scene at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, which they renamed the Central City Theater for the scene. I know nothing of what happened in the scene, because I really thought I had more time, and was doing a live chat while they were filming, and when I was done with that, unfortunately was just after they had wrapped. I assumed they were going to come back, but they did not. All I know about the scene is Grant was there again, dressed as Barry. There are two details I picked up while I was there on the first day by dumb luck. One is, a guest star that ALSO filmed on the Monday set, but unfortunately not while I was there, that is Rick Cosnett was working that day. I DO NOT KNOW the character he was playing, so dont get carried away with speculations. The other, is the episode title, which I found curious. "A New World: Part One". There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR A "THE FLASH" SEASON 7 EPISODE 11, AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . . PLEASE NOTE - Photo limits are in place for website use/social media posts. THERE IS NEW LIMITS IN PLACE AS OF JANUARY 1, 2021.... SO CHECK THOSE OUT. PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF FAMILIAR WITH THE NEW GUIDELINES POSTED HERE I will not be responsible for your ignorance. If I file a takedown notice on you, it really is on you for not educating yourself. If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. The Flash was on location for season 7 shooting on Thursday & Friday for episode 11 in a commonly used area, the 1000 block of West Hastings, which includes the commonly used Oceanic Plaza (Flash fans will remember this as where King Shark tried killing Barry in their first meeting... aka Porter Plaza.). I broke the reports on these days down into two blogs, The first one, a daytime scene is HERE. The night shoots are in this post. On the first day, after the daytime scene they shot in that earlier blog post, they moved 1/2 block down the street to in front of Oceanic Plaza. There they did some stunts. On set was the stunt team for The Flash, and the two people mentioned in the previous blog, which at this time I dont know which characters they are. But ONE was Michelle Harrison, who in the past has played Nora Allen, Joan Garrick, and the Speed Force..... so your guess is as good as mine on who she is now. The other is now ID'ed as Christian Magby (source: HERE ) that is dressed in the school sports jacket you see below. I have seen a couple social media posts based off yesterdays photos suggesting this could be a character named "Steadfast" that is part of the Still Force based off the logo on his jacket. But at this time I DO NOT know if that is true. The trio did a stunt where Barrys stunt double Cody Laudan, & the unknown actors stunt double were facing Michelles stunt double. Christians double does something with his hands that looks like he is trying to direct something at Michelles doubles character. A moment later, all 3 of them are sent flying backwards from where they were standing. A little while later, the stunt team wrapped their work, and the actors came in. Grant Gustin joined Michelle & Christian on set. They continued shooting the scene with the dialogue part of the scene. After that, Grant, Michelle, and Christian moved up to the top plaza of Oceanic Plaza to do a scene with 2 others. One of the two is Ennis Esmer who is playing "Psych" that I told you about in these previous blog posts HERE and HERE. This time however, he was maskless. The other, was a younger girl that I now believe to be Sara Alicia Garcia. The 4 of them walked together in a line through the court yard, eventually stopping. Then The Flash walks over to them, and there is a brief interaction between Flash & Michelles character (who after this scene I am starting to think is Nora somehow), before he falls to the ground momentarily. Michelle then reaches down, and picks him up. They look at each other, and then hug. A moment later, Michelles character invites the other 3 over, and The Flash seems to be friendly with them. On the second day they were back down on the street level where the stunt from the night earlier was done. This time, the entire group from the last scene the night before was there. Christian, Sara, and Ennis, were lined up with The Flash, facing Michelles character for most of the scenes. At one point they do a scene where The Flash turns around, facing the same direction Michelles character is facing, and yells at something up high & says "I did what you asked". There also was a scene done where the whole group looked in 1 direction, up high. I also added 2 other photos at the end. They were actually set piece photos. One of a Central City Cab, but the more interesting one, which features the Porter Plaza placard that you may remember from that King Shark episode I referenced earlier, also show a banner right next to it that says "Quickstart Enterprises" which is a TV channel that Johnny Quick (Chambers) and Jesse Quick (Chambers) run in the comics. UPDATE: March 26, 2021 (6:30 PM) - Name of the previously unknown actors is now updated. Christian Magby, and Sara Garcia. There will be some video from this nights shoot to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. I will be breaking the reports on these days down into two blogs, because 1 scene seems to be separate from the others, so here is the 1st part of my report. Thursday afternoon filming. At the first location of their 2 day shoot The Flash filmed in an area known as Portal Park, which is just at the corner down from Oceanic Plaza. It was pouring rain the whole time they were there, and I was doing the best I could to keep myself, and my camera dry, while still taking photos. The scene included 2 actors on set. One, a newcomer to the show Christian Magby, (source: HERE )wearing a school sports jacket. On the arm, it said "Owens" (I did a search for a character with that name, and only 2 hits came up. Neither do I think would be this one. A villain sniper simply named Owens, and at some point former Olympic legend Jesse Owens was featured in a comic. I dont THINK its him, just because he is wearing a modern day jacket in it, and Jesse for school sports age would have been during the 1920s/30 ). The other person on set was a returning recurring character. Michelle Harrison was there. Was she Barrys mom Nora Allen? Or is she someone/something else? We know in the past she has been seen by Barry as the speed force. The scene was quite confusing. It had "Nora" speaking to this Owens kid. In it, Nora seems quite mad, as does Owens. The conversation is clearly a tense one, and in the end Owens leaves, but in an interesting twist, he turns around to Nora when he was walking away to do this arm up pose that usually associates someone is about to run away at super speed. So is Owens a speedster? Immediately after, Nora yells out with no sign of Owens in sight any more something that sounded like "you cant run forever Deon/Leon", but I can not be 100% sure of those exact words, as there was a lot of excess noise with traffic, and the rain. I also added 1 photo of a S.T.A.R. Labs van that was driving by. It was NOT part of the scene. They actually use it for moving equipment on set. But sometimes it also is in scenes. But not today. After that scene was done, they moved 1/2 block down to do some night shoots for the next two days. I will have more on those in my next report in the next day or 2. The Flash was shooting scenes for season 5 in downtown Vancouver last night. They were in an area known as Plaza Of Nations, which during its heydays used to be an entertainment area with an outdoor concert venue, a couple clubs and a casino. Nowadays, its mostly just a couple large empty buildings and an empty courtyard where the outdoor concert venue was. While many productions have used the facilities over the years, I THINK this is the first time I can recall The Flash there. Anyways, here is a quick video of Grant Gustin in his new Flash suit with Jessica Parker Kennedy in her XS suit doing a scene where they are looking at Central City Picture News before Grant speeds off, leaving Jessica there by herself with onlookers. Lastly, apologies for the short blurry moment. Still have no idea how to stop the camera from trying to focus on things that dont matter. Had it 3 or 4 years, and its still a nuisance. While many productions have used the facilities over the years, I THINK this is the first time I can recall The Flash there. Fair warning, the photos below are NOT the best quality. I never really found a good spot to shoot from. One side was bad because of the large white screens which gave everything a sort of "shadow" look, and even with all the brightening in the world, they still are pretty dark. On the other side.... just too much foot traffic in the way, plus the actual extras in the scene. Early in the day the cast & crew shot inside the building with Grant Gustin dressed as Barry Allen. I DID NOT see any other cast confirmed to be in there, but I did see Jessica Parker Kennedy and her double around there, dressed as XS. Whether they were inside filming or not, I cant say. Later, the shoot moved outside, where a crowd of maybe 50 people all well dressed stood, staring at a building in shock and horror. Grant, now dressed as The Flash in his NEW SUIT, was there with XS in the crowd. Suddenly he darts off, leaving his daughter to watch the building, which was dressed up to look like Central City Picture News. Was Iris there? I cant say. I did not see her around, but she could have been there, there was a lot of background people, it was dark, and I was far enough away that outside of those in superhero constumes, couldnt really be sure who was there. As for what I noticed about Grants new suit. Definitely sleeker, seemed less bulky. Seemed a bit brighter to me too, more in tune with how the John Wesley Shipp era Flash suit might have looked. Also, it looks like the top part of his head piece is separate from the rest. How it will look on scree, is still a mystery to be figured out. Guess we'll have to wait till October for that. Based on the date, these SHOULD be for episode 4... but theres a small chance they are for episode 5. UPDATE - more photos added 6:46 PM July 17, 2018 The Flash was shooting scenes for the season 5 Premiere episode in Gastown today. Two interesting spoilers came out of this shoot. One thats been plastered all over twitter since it was seen......... The old early season suit for The Flash made a return today for some reason..... the other spoiler..... well, guess you'll have to read on. The scenes shot consisted mostly of Grant Gustin and his stunt double Cody Laudan as The Flash facing off against a henchman wearing a black mask over his face who seemed to be causing havoc at Central City Jewelers. In an early scene with the stunt team, The Flash hits the henchman so hard he goes flying back & crashes into an armored truck. Later they shot a scene where the henchman gets him back with a punch that sends the scarlet speedster flying thru the air. After the stunts were done, Grant arrived showing off his Los Angeles sports love, with a Dodgers hat, and a Zlatan Ibrahimovic LA Galaxy t-shirt before he suited up fully in his costume. he then did scenes where he is saving two armed guards from falling before the henchman attacks him. A little while later however, the BIG spoiler of the day was on set. Jessica Parker Kennedy was on set as Nora Allen.... IN SPEEDSTER ATTIRE!. Whats her speedster name? The crew worked hard to try and cover the scene up from the public, and I would have possibly not realized it either if it werent for the fact I had seen her earlier in the day around the set & was on the look out for her doing a scene. They had her hidden behind a lot of equipment and she didnt really come out into view of where the fans were standing. She yells briefly at Barry something along the lines of "what are you doing?" as if questioning his decision.... and thats literally all she seems to do. Below are a few partial shots I got of her, and if you piece them together, you get the whole idea of her outfit. During the break between the scene where The Flash gets punched, and Nora coming on to the set. Grant, came over and took photos IN COSTUME with anyone that asked him there. This is only the 2nd time I have seen him do it, and 3rd total time I am aware that hes done it. So a big treat for all those that hung around at the set today. Perhaps it was a distraction so they could slip JPK on to the set with no one noticing.
