The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes on Friday in downtown Vancouver as part of their 3 day shoot in the downtown area. My other previous finale set blog posts are HERE and HERE. On set for these scenes were Grant Gustin as The Flash, Tom Cavanagh as Eobard Thawne, Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Jordan Fisher as Impulse, and Kausar Mohammed as Fast Track. Scenes on this night had the 4 hero speedsters facing off against Thawne in a cased in courtyard with extras running around a little bit early on in the scene. Eventually the 4 heroes confront Thawne, and XS yells out at him "its 4 against 1 Thawne". Then shortly after the 4 heroes zip out of frame. A bit later they do more of the scene, with Thawne standing in the middle looking around, as if he is unsure where an attack might be coming from, then they pause, the 4 heroes come in & all make a throwing action at him simultaneously, hitting Thawne, sending him to the ground. Then there is another pause with Flash & Flast Track standing over the body of Thawne, and Tom gets up and leaves the scene, and Jordan comes in & takes his place, then they unpause, and Flash, XS & Fast Track hurry over to the body of Impulse now laying on the ground. Another pause, Thawne comes back in, this time behind them. The trio turn around to see Thawne there, then there is another pause, and everyone leaves except Flash & Thawne, they have a few words, before Flash runs after Thawne, and thats the end of the scene. After that, they went on lunch, I called it a day, and thus, also called it a season on The Flash as this was the last public location shoot for them this season. They officially wrap the entire season on Monday April 25th. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. Some from the first part of the cross over is already up there. You can find ALL of The Flash videos I have shot since right back to the pilot episode HERE on Youtube. The Flash cast & crew filmed scenes earlier this week in downtown Vancouver for 3 nights. This blog post is just for the 1st two nights. This was for the season 8 finale, episode 820. The production closed down 1 whole block in front of our hockey arena, Rogers Arena. Along with that, at other points of the shoot, they had a couple other roads completely blocked off to traffic & pedestrians. On Wednesday night, in continual rain, the cast & crew shot scenes with Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Tom Cavanagh as some version of Eobard Thawne (he was referred to as "NRF" on a storyboard I happened to see for 1 of the scenes). In the scene, the 2 are having an altercation in a parking lot, when Barry seems to get frozen, as if he is in Flashtime, and Thoawne walks around him acting all boastful, a Police Car zips in during in (why it wasnt also frozen.... thats for the writers to explain) and Thawne blows it up. All the while, Barry is frozen still in a defensive pose. I also saw 1 scene they did a couple takes of where Barry just comes running into the parking lot from the street, and that was about all there was on that night that I saw. On Thursday night I got down the set a little later than the night before, knowing this time it was going to be a full night shoot. When I got there, it was clear they were planning to do a different stunt at some point, as they had a crane set up to lift someone in the sky. For the 1st couple hours, nothing much happened, except getting the stunt team prepped to do a stunt. At 1 point they did a stunt where the doubles for Flash & Thawne are thrown into the air in opposite directions (I missed it somehow, but you can find it on twitter HERE.). I saw them working on 1 stunt where they were raising the Thawne double high into the air. Unfortunately, a random lightning strike paused their work on that stunt, and the whole production shut down for about 45-60 minutes while they waited to make sure there was not more troublesome weather. By they time they were getting ready to work again, I had gotten tired, cold, and sore enough to consider leaving, and had decided next train I saw coming in, I was taking it. While I was waiting, they called 1st team rehearsals, which I thought was odd, since it was clearly the stunt team working last I saw. Instead of just stunts now though, they had cast on set. Grant Gustin was laying down in the middle of the road, he had his rain gear on over his costume, so there was no identifying markings it was him, except the gold boots. At 1st I thought it might be him because I thought I saw gold boots. But when I looked at the person laying on the ground, I couldnt see any of the boots, and assumed it was a random Cop from the blown up CCPD car maybe because of the all black outfit he was wearing. I was again, about to leave, when I saw something I wasnt expecting to see. A man in blue pants, red jacket, wearing a big metal brimmed hat go running into the street with a woman. I grabbed my binoculars again, looked and confirmed what I thought I was seeing, it was John Wesley Shipp & Candice Patton. Suddenly I realized that WAS Grant in the middle of the road, and I hurried over to a better spot to start shooting. They packed a lot of parts of scenes into the time I was there, trying to make up for the hour they had to shut down. Inside the parking lot, they had Thawne looking all menacing facing Barry, while Iris & Jay Garrick were standing 15 feet away from them. Iris yells "Flash, you have to stop". Iris holding her head at times. Next they are out on the street. Out there Iris & Jay find Barry, on the ground, just starting to get up. Barry & Iris hug for a long period, before Jay rushes Iris out of there after Barry says something to them. They then had 3 speedsters join Barry, Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Jordan Fisher as Impulse, and Kausar Mohammed as Fast Track, with a new cowl, joined the Scarlet Speedster. Barrys kids rush over to hug their dad, as Fast Track stands near by. They then have their moment broken up by something in the sky that they all turn to look up at. A bit later, they finally did the stunt with the Thawne double high in the air. Barry is sitting on the ground, against the building and is yelling at him while Thawne is making lots of "aggghhh" type sounds with his arms stretched out. At 2 points, he makes a clap, before going back into the arms stretched out point. aaaannd that was it for these 2 nights in the parking lot. There was 1 more location shoot the next night, that I will have a blog up for in the next couple days. The Flash cast & crew finally poked their heads out from hiding, after almost 2 months of not getting seen downtown, to film a scene in the alley behind the place they use for O'Shaughnessy's exteriors. This was the 1st time seeing them out since the show got officially picked up for a 9th season. It had been so long since I had seen the show on location, earlier in the week I took a rare trip out to their secondary studio to see if I could find out what was going on with this back half of the season. While out there, I did see 2 actors in full costume. Grant Gustin as The Flash, and Christian Magby as Deon Owens. I also saw trailers for 3 other characters there (well, their stunt doubles, but still same thing as far as characters go) 1 was for Eobard, 1 was for a character I wont say because I only saw a trailer, and thus cant confirm they are 100% back, and 1 for a character I would see 3 days later at the set that you will see in the report below. On Friday, the crew & cast finally came back downtown. The production was smaller than most sets for this show, so it did not surprise me much when all I saw for cast trailers at the set was 1 trailer. It had space for 2 characters. One door had no label on it, and it turned out, it was for Grant. The other had a taped on label written in very fancy writing that said "Fast Track". That was the characters trailer for the stunt double I saw a few days earlier. In the alley was a long, dialogue heavy scene being shot between Grant Gustin as The Flash and an actress (I have seen several users state its Kausar Mohammed, previously from The CW show "4400", but at this time I do not have 100% confirmation of it, but I do acknowledge the similarity is definitely strong enough that I assume those claims are right.) as Fast Track. At first, finding an angle was tough. I first had tried to shoot it from an inroad alley that actually runs below it. But as you can see, the bars on the alley block off much of the look at the scene. In the end, this was the only part of the alley I was able to see any of the scene from though, and it consisted of the two speedsters standing in the alley having a prolonged discussion about something, before Barry tapping his head and zipping off, leaving Fast Track there for several more moments, before she too would speed off. At 1 point, a group of students from a nearby school were also in the alley, got Grants attention for a moment, and he gave them all a fist pump and a wave & such before going back to work. He seemed to be in a pretty good mood, of course with a brand new season 9 contract in his pocket, he has reason to celebrate. A little later they did a slightly different scene that had them now squeezed in between a garbage bin & some pallets, having more of a conversation that I got lucky enough to see a very brief couple seconds of after a couple impatient citizens didnt want to wait for hold ups at the end of the street & led to several more deciding to go & the PAs eventually realizing they had lost the group & let everyone go. But I obviously didnt see enough of the scene to get a good idea of what it was about as they cut almost immediately after everyone was let go. On set, I only heard them refer to the character as Fast Track, so I cant say if this is the Meena Dhawan version of the character, but based off the look & casting, and the fact Meena has been referenced before on a book Chester was holding in the past, it likely is.
