The Flash cast & crew filmed this past Thursday, into early Friday morning at Science World, in the far north east part of downtown Vancouver. This is for the season 9 finale, the series finale, and the Arrowverse finale. It is directed by Vanessa Parise. This is the same location that they used for the season 7 finale where Godspeed, Reverse Flash, and The Flash had that famous lightning light saber battle. This time, a few more people would be on the set. Early in the day, I got there while they were still setting up. It was going to be cold that night, and I was hoping to get some photos of them rehearsing before it got too cold. Unfortunately, they didnt start rehearsing till it was plenty dark, and already cold. They started with some stunts, featuring the stunt double for Cobalt Blue out on the set. He went up to a car, and shoved it aggressively, which I assume set off the chain reaction that some may have seen in the explosion scene in this video on tiktok. I missed it, as I was across the street in a buddies car getting warm, but we could see it easily enough from the car, as the fireballs were all several feet high, clearing all the equipment that was between us & the set. After they did that explosion scene, there was a scene where someone went through a glass sign (the one I photographed in the daytime), then after cleaning up all that, they started shooting with cast. It was already late & cold by then, and I was only saved by bringing hand warmers with me, and a couple times sitting in a car. Without those, I would have left several hours earlier. On set for this massive scene was several actors, and a couple stunt doubles. First off, people you might have expected to be around. Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Jon Cor as Chillblaine, aaaaand Danielle Panabaker as Khione. But they were not the only cast out there, there was a roster of speedster villains against them. Rick Cosnett was out there as Cobalt Blue, Teddy Sears was there as Zoom, and a bit of an unexpected shock was Tom Cavanagh back as Reverse Flash, as he had not been announced as being back, unlike the other two. With them were stunt doubles filling the suits of Savitar, and Godspeed. Also on set was Cody Laudan as The Flash. Oddly, Grant Gustin did not work all night (this is quite odd.. only other time I have seen that was one time when Grant got snowed in back east, and 1 other time on another show when an actor got too sick to work on short notice). The scenes did not seem to have a lot in the way of action going on. It essentially had the 5 villains in a row, facing the 6 Team Flash members all standing in a row. It gave us a bit better look at Ceciles costume, which the first set I shot her at, didnt give me the impression the suit was blue, but now I could clearly see it is. Allegra might have had a suit as well, but couldnt be so certain. Khiones wardrobe was seemingly a more toned down old Frost costume, with a more modest look to it. Also, whether you like him or not, you have to give your full respect to Jon Cor as Chillblaine, he was out there SHIRTLESS with his jacket wide open, in below freezing conditions (the temperatures ranged from -1C to -7C on the night) for the scenes. For the most part, the villains team seemed to have Cobalt Blue doing the majority of the dialogue, but it really was hard to be sure, as I was shooting all of it from about a football field away. On Team Flash, I never really got the impression anyone specific was controlling the dialogue there, but again, they had their backs to me for the entire scene. During 1 break, we got to talk to Teddy Sears for a few minutes, while he signed autographs He said he was excited to be back, and thanked all the fans who campaigned for him to return, because he really wanted to come back, and kept checking in with them himself to see if they wanted him to come back, and only got the word about 2 weeks out from filming. I also chatted very briefly with Tom Cavanagh, and finally met Kayla Compton for the 1st time. This MIGHT be the last location shoot the show ever has downtown. They did have another one the very next night, in a city 30 minutes away, that seemed to just be a lot of Godspeeds doing a stunt scene. As of right now, there are no more sets known yet. They only have a week of filming left to do, as they wrap on March 6, 2023. There will be some video from scenes from this episode to post in the next few weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. THIS BLOG POST IS FOR A "THE FLASH" SEASON 8 EPISODE ??, & MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. If you have not seen the episode, and do not want to see or read possible spoilers about it prior to seeing it, do not continue reading the article or viewing the photos below. . . . last warning . . . If you are confused on how many you can post, ASK FIRST, and I will let you know. The Flash was on location for the season 8 premiere. The other day I caught up with them filming part 1 of their 5 part cross over event titled "Armageddon", that episode is being directed by Eric Dean Seaton. I do not know if this set is from that same episode still, or a different episode. You can find that set report HERE On this day, the cast & crew had moved 1 & 1/2 blocks up the street to an area used by a lot of productions, including The Flash itself in the past for the very first location I ever found of them during the pilot episode. You can see that wayyyy back set report HERE Early in the day, I checked out this location, but it was clear they werent filming any time soon, so I left and came back a few hours later. In the first scene out there, they had Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, with Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, doing a scene where they were just walking along together. I never saw the scene shot from the front side, I only saw 1 partial take of it when I got over there. When I first showed up, they had already been shooting the scene for a couple takes. But what others told me, I didnt miss anything context, or action wise. It was just them walking along. The photos I have in the set of them, is from them walking back from the end of the take. After their lunch break, they set up for a couple night time scenes. First up was Grant again with his stunt double Cody Laudan, doing a scene where The Flash gets tossed across the pavement, then gets up and eventually runs off. It was a very short scene, and was wrapped up after a couple takes. After that scene, they wrapped Grant, and had Tony Curran come in, wearing a different wardrobe than I saw him in two days earlier on set. this time. This time, Despero was dressed like some type of European looking warrior with a belt buckle that would glow. He did scenes where he is talking to/at someone/something, while cars burn around him. They then finished off the night with some more stunts, with a variety of people running around in a panic, while the cars from the scene Tony did, were burning. That was it for the night. Some of the setting pieces they had, included signage for Central City Parking, a spray painted sign that said "The End Is Nigh", a sign for a pub called "Robern's", a strange futuristic looking green car that they never used outside of being in the background of the stunt running scene, and a little stand with a sign saying "West Party". I dont know if any of those pieces ever were more important than background info, but from the time I was there, I never saw anything going on that would suggest they had any relevance to the scenes. The Flash season 8 will begin November 16 with their 5 event semi-crossover event on The CW in the U.S. Or on their app the next day. There will be some video from scenes from this cross over to post in the next couple weeks, so come back to find those then, or you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and get them there when they drop. The Flash was on location for episode 18 of the 6th season in downtown Vancouver around the same location they had the final battle with Bloodwork for the end of the first half of season 6. It was a busy area for filming last night, as Batwoman was filming quite literally on the next block over. But I spent my time at The Flash, and good thing I did. Apologies in advance for some less than great photos. It was a perfect storm of things not going my way last night. Besides the typical Vancouver rain that I usually am used to, it was also pretty windy at times, I also was trying to work through that with my worst umbrella, as I have lost, or broken my other two better ones this season, and all that was amplified by the fact that TWICE in the night, I had my settings on my camera wrong. It was not a fun night all around. Last night they started a scene being done that included a couple stunt scenes first, with Grant Gustin and his stunt double Cody Laudan as The Flash in a battled versus........ GODSPEED! Yes, you heard that right. There were a couple scenes. First, one where they dropped a stuntman in the Godspeed outfit form several floors up onto a vehicle. A fan actually caught the rehearsal for this stunt earlier in the day here. After that Cody came out to do a scene where The Flash got thrown into a van. There was then a scene where Godspeed seems to be looking down at The Flash on the ground, and might be kneeling down towards him, when The Flash zips out of there. Lots of questions to be asked & answered from this reveal. Is this the actual Godspeed? is it another knock off like he battled at the start of the season? Is Godspeed part of Black Hole? However, Godspeed was not the only returnee last night. After Godspeeds first set of scenes, he left, and someone (I never was able to confirm if it was the same person, my vision isnt the best... if anyone else can confirm, or deny, or identify the person, please comment with that & I will update it) came in to do scenes dressed in a cloack, with gauntlets that glow green..... sound familiar? Pied Piper seems to be back. Oh, and he is helping The Flash. The pair did some scenes where they appear to be fighting Godspeed, as they both look up. At one point you hear someone yell out for The Flash, whether it was a crew member calling out a mark to Grant, or Piper asking him to help him, or to tell him to do something specific, I couldnt hear, all I heard was Flashs name get called out. A bit later, they did a scene where they slowly encroach on the vehicle Godspeed fell on. They get closer and Godspeed is laying flat out on the top of the crumpled vehicle. After that scene, they moved into the street. It was pouring rain, windy, and the only angle I had to see the scene was quite literally from just a bit under 2 blocks away thru traffic going along a major road, and all the crew & prop vehicles, so I only stayed for 3 or 4 takes of this scene. The scene SEEMED to have Godspeed grabbing a random person (if it is someone, I cant tell) while others run around in a panick. There also seemed to be a guy standing beside him at the start of the scene in a beige jacket wearing what appears to be sunglasses, which would be a bit odd in the middle of the night. Not sure if he is someone, or just a random crew/background person there. I know Grant went to set for this scene, so The Flash is in the scene..... somewhere, but I had a very limited window of space to view any of the scene which was frankly massive, so it was just luck that the part I could see had Godspeed in it. At about 3 AM, I decided I had enough of this, and went home. They were scheduled to film there for a couple more hours. So who knows what more might have gone on. Lastly, I just have to laugh at the Central City downtown map that doesnt actually have any street names, or the names of hotels etc. Just expects people to know what the street names are, and which hotel is which etc...... also, CC has several downtown Gas Stations..... while Vancouver itself only has ONE lol. There also was a van there for "Central City Crossover Comix & Collectibles" that seems to be owned by Barney Sands.... who is a character in the comics, as a neighbour of Barry as a kid. All other rules still apply. UPDATE: NOVEMBER 22, 2019 - Details on the actress & character in the final scene have been added. The Flash was on location for the 8th episode of the season on Wednesday at B.C. Place, and Thursday & Friday nights, into Friday & Saturday mornings at Melville & Thurlow in downtown Vancouver. The first of those nights, the cast & crew of The Flash found themselves at B.C. Place Stadium. For those unfamiliar with the shows regular locations, this is where they go for exterior shots of S.T.A.R Labs. This night they had the set up further down the concourse than they usually use. Setting up on the west side of the building, as opposed to the east side, or the North West main concourse, as they have many times before. After some recent changes to the area in the past few years, that side is no longer accessible from the back end (the stadium used to just have a complete encompassing concourse that you could walk all the way around.... but now, the majority of the West & south west part of it is gone), so the only way to catch the filming in this area was either working in 1 of the offices that overlooked it, or, as me & 3 or 4 other fans that night did, go into Boston Pizza, and watch through their windows.... which even with that, was limited to just a few panes on the top floor. Because of this complicated set up, I did not stay too long that night, but I was there long enough to see they had Grant Gustin as The Flash and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Dr. Ramsey Rosso/ Bloodwork out there filming a scene where the pair are walking together up towards S.T.A.R. Labs. The pair did not seem to be in any type of conflict with each other, and it wasnt till after the fact when I was home and could see what I shot on a larger screen I noticed the details on Barrys suit (which you can see a bit better in the upcoming pics in this set... but this first set it is a bit tough to really tell), he has black marks on his logo, his gold ear wings, belt, and dark black fingertips. After they shot that scene, there seemed to be a long break, and so I left, as it was probably going to drag out for awhile, and I had another set that I thought might have better stuff to do that night to get to. What is happening to Barry? Is Bloodwork doing it? On Thursday night The Flash moved their unit a couple miles across downtown Vancouver to a block I have been to many a film set for, but not at the location they were shooting. Melville Street was home to a several story large building & parking lot that many shows used until just as recently as last season, but is now just a crater as something new is clearly being planned for that spot. On this night, the cast & crew were about 1/2 a block east of there in a little courtyard in front of a variety of small businesses that share the corner. The main scene of the evening had an unknown actor in The Flash suit taking the place of Grant Gustin who was off working cross over duty with several others on a different show. The Flash stand in did a scene with Sendhil in full Bloodwork make up, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, and later in the evening a scene was done with Danielle Panabaker in full Killer Frost attire. Each of the cast there had doubles on set too, but I rarely saw them working except for Grants, and at times the one for Cisco. The night was an all too quick reminder that summer is officially over, as strong winds that night brought the temperature down into the lower single digits celsius. The winds were so strong at points that equipment was knocked over a few times. I actually wondered if there was any point where they considered cancelling the rest of the night. As I said on the night one photos, you can see the details on The Flash suit a lot better here. With the Bloodwork dark vein look all over his logo, and gold trimmings. In the scene with the 3 of them, Cisco comes in with a gun (all the photos I got of that were out of focus, just something about the angle I had, and the light off the gun did not work for my camera), yells at Bloodwork, using the characters name, and then shoots the gun at the villain, causing him to fall to the ground. The Flash then zips over, grabs Cisco and pulls him over to Bloodwork. The trio then were crouched down too low to really see what was going on. At the lunch break Sendhil and Danielle, stopped to take photos and sign autographs for fans before heading off to eat. After lunch, Danielle did a scene that I think she was the only main cast on set for. All I can tell you about it is a lot of extras were running, and she runs in to the middle of the scene then vanished out of my view. Again, like the first night. I left before they wrapped. This time, because of the unexpectedly cold night from the strong wind. On night 3 the cast seemed to be back down to just Grant & Sendhil for the entire night. A woman I had never seen before worked with Sendhil later. More on that down below. The evening started off slow, a scene of The Flash zipping in front of a green screen was done, then a looooong break happened. When I came back to the set from working a different event, they had moved from the court yard out onto the street. When I first got there I instantly noticed a man that for the rest of the evening I referred to as "tall Abraham Lincoln" out there standing on stilts. While I never heard specifically what he was a stand in for, its a fair assumption (I hate assuming in posts on my site, but this seems like a safe time to do it) to think this is a stand in for Bloodwork when he is in full Bloodwork mode. The thing I noticed during the scene they shot with tall Abe was The Flash no longer had black marks all over his suit. Did The Flash finally break the control Bloodwork had over him? Or is this a scene from before it happens? The scene seemed to have The Flash using his speed to punch tall Abe all over. A bit later, they did a scene where it seems tall Abe gets the upper hand, as The Flash is thrown into a vehicle (obviously they had Cody Laudan do that part), and the impact of it completely causes the vehicle to be crushed. Then Grant came back in, to be The Flash seemingly being held by some type of force against the vehicle, having trouble moving off the vehicle. After Grant wrapped that scene, they did a scene with Sendhil and Meera Simhan. The scene had Ramsey in the middle of the street, clothes torn, looking angry, making a motion like he is about to hit someone, when he stops, to look at someone behind him. Its his mother. He then turns around, and a conversation happens between his mom and him. She moves towards him and gently puts her hands on his face and they share a couple moments interacting. In this scene there are no dark veins on Ramsey, he seems to be calmed down. Is his mom how The Flash & the team end up beating Bloodwork? In the season 6 promo where they introduce Bloodwork to everyone, they show him standing over his mothers grave. How does she return? The Flash will start shooting their portion of Crisis On Infinite Earths next week, someone I know on set was told Tuesday, and that about lines up with what I had down as their projected start date for it. Other shows are already on their portion of the Crisis episode. So you should check out my COIE blog section for posts on filming for that when I finally catch up to them. There could be scenes on other shows that pertain to Flash characters that wont be found in The Flash blog section. All other rules still apply. UPDATE - October 8, 2019 - More photos added at the bottom from both scenes. The Flash was on location for the 7th episode of the season on Friday in downtown Vancouver. The episode is being directed by Chad Lowe. On set during the daytime scenes were Grant Gustin as both Barry Allen, and The Flash, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Dr. Ramsey Rosso, Grants stunt double Cody Laudan as The Flash at some points, and an actress that was playing the victim of a car accident. There was also a stand in for Barry Allen when the camera isnt focused on him, I do not know that actors name at this time. The scene I saw shot really makes almost no sense to me yet. In the early scene Grant was dressed as Barry, and he was standing with Sendhil, as Ramsey. They were staring at a car crash, when suddenly The Flash zips in, and treats a woman at the crash. Barry moves closer to investigate this apparent version of The Flash that he sees there, but it doesnt seem like he interacts with him in any way. Just stares at him as he crouches down near him. Is Bloodwork responsible for this? Why are Barry & Ramsey seemingly chummy still in episode 7? A bit later, it was time for Grant to be dressed up as The Flash. During that scene, we see him zip in, and treat the woman at the crash. At one point he takes his glove off, and seems to place his hand on her, and moments later, the woman comes to. All while Barry & Ramsey look on. This is of course the first on set in public shots of Grant in the new season 6 suit. It was also the first on set look at Sendhil as Dr. Ramsey Rosso on set. They are still filming more today, but I felt that you all would want to see these first on set public photos of Grant & Sendhil on set together. I also dabbled a few times in here with a new watermark font. Let me know if you like it, or the original one. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 515 or 516 (I think 16) in an alley just off Granville Street in downtown Vancouver. It's an alley they have used OFTEN. So often, I knew exactly where they were going to bring cast in, and hold them etc. They've been in this alley pretty often. While they were setting up the scene that would be shot first, Chris Klein dressed as Cicada, and Danielle Panabaker dressed up as Killer Frost showed up, and almost walked right thru the crowd of lookie loos, before being turned around by a crew member towards where they were supposed to go. I always can tell what type of "fans" there are at a set by who they recognize.... and this was a perfect example. Danielle, in full KF wardrobe got within about 5 feet of a crowd of 20+ people, and NOT ONE noticed. Clear example that these weren't fans, as much as they were clubbers, stopping by to gawk at all the Hollywood magic going on so they could get instagram likes later. The crew then worked on a car for about 10 minutes, quite literally sawing thru it, so that when they did a stunt later, it would have the desired effect wanted for it. That stunt, saw The Flash stunt double Cody Laudan dropped from about 30-50 feet in the air, into the car, blowing out all the windows, and leaving a massive person sized dent in it. Cody then shot scenes where he just stayed in the dent, almost motionless, as Cicada does his little up, up & away move with his dagger and leaves. During breaks, you would sometimes see the Cicada double talking to Chris, and seemingly showing him how moves should be done. You see this type of stuff a lot on sets, but this time, it seemed like he was doing it a LOT more than others. For a brief while, Danielle was on set as Killer Frost, but I never really saw what her role in the scene was. For much of the evening, the main stars were not really around when I saw them shooting. It was primarily the stunt team, and Chris Klein shooting. A little later, Danielle took off from set, and stopped to take photos with the half dozen or so fans who actually KNEW who she was. A little while later, Grant Gustin showed up in his Flash attire. He then took over from the spot Cody had been in for the last hour. I always feel a little bad for Cody & the other stunt people when I see them do things like they did for Grant, where they had a ladder brought in for him to get up onto the car with, while Cody just had to climb up onto this just recently smashed up car, and climb off it on his own. The crew then shot the same scenes, this time with Grant laying there. A little while later, Grant would leave, and Danielle would come back to do her work. The set up in the alley made it tough to see anything, so I called it a night at that point, and headed home. So I cant really say what happened between Killer Frost and Cicada in this scene. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 510 in downtown Vancouver a couple months ago in front of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. When I got there, I realized quickly there was no main cast on set. Instead, I got 1 mystery woman (at that time) doing scenes where she steals a car from a man who is being questioned by a cop. In the scene, she simply just walks up behind the car owner while the cop is right there questioning him, and gets in and drives away before the owner pointlessly tries to chase after her. I asked on twitter if anyone knew who the woman was, and got no solid answers.... so it remained a mystery, until the episode synopsis came out. I now know the woman to be Gabrielle Walsh (The Vampire Diaries, Shameless), and she is playing the character Silver Ghost, who has meta tech abilities that make it so she can operate motorized items. She had a stunt double to do all the driving scenes. A little later they moved to another location down the street. The car was there when I got there, but they had not yet started filming. A little while later Cody Laudan, the double for The Flash showed up. They set up for a scene where he was going to be chasing after the car. It was kind of cold that day, and I wasnt feeling up to waiting it out, so I left before they actually shot any of the scenes. A bit later in the day Grant Gustin arrived to film, as I found out from a post a fan put on twitter of him meeting grant there. After the winter hiatus, The Flash will be back next week January 15, 2019 with this episode. The Flash airs on The CW in the U.S. on Tuesdays.
