THIS POST CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 203 OF THE FLASH. If you have not yet seen this episode and do not want to see or read anything about it prior to seeing it. Do not continue reading or viewing this post. . . . last warning . . In early August, I caught The Flash out shooting scenes for their 3rd episode of season 2. The first night was an odd one for me. It started off quite disappointing, but ended with a cool memory. Scenes were shot inside with a variety of cast, most importantly for me was Peyton List and Candice Patton. I had several photos I hoped to get them to sign. I even saw Peyton...briefly, unfortunately, not in enough time to react. Sadly, that 1 brief sighting was all we would see of her the rest of the day. While there, we randomly ran into Victor Garber, aka - professor Martin Stein. He wasn't working, he just happened to be walking by that area. My buddy had some Legends O Tomorrow cast promo items he got him to sign, and I had 1 left over photo from Argo to get done. Later on they started setting up for a scene outside in an alley. It was going to include Grant Gustin and Candice Patton. Eventually Grant arrived and did a rehearsal for the scene. When rehearsals were done, the pair left. In that same time, the crew asked everyone to vacate the area they were standing in and move all the way to the other end of the alley. This was important for 2 reasons. As we were leaving, I got a call from my friend who had JUST left to catch his last bus telling me the car Grant was in was back up top where we were earlier. The group of 15-20 fans made the long block and a bit trek up a side lane, out onto the street where we had been waiting for hours earlier, down that street, and up the back side of the alley at the opposite end of where we just were. This was funny to me, because an entire group of fans walked down the street, stared RIGHT AT the security guy who was standing beside the vehicle they just saw Grant leave in, right outside a trailer with its lights on inside and thought nothing of it and kept walking. I of course stopped. As did two other autograph hounds. Almost instantly grant came out, saw us, came over, signed for me, signed for 1 of the other two and said he had to get going and left to go back to set. I wandered around with 1 of the guys for a few minutes as we looked to find a good spot to watch the scene. in the end we ended up joining the 6-8 fans still there at the end of the alley. Eventually the scene they were shooting needed a break to turn all the equipment around so they could shoot from the opposite direction. While that went on, Grant in his new, previously not seen by me white logo Flash suit sprinted down the alley towards us, and quickly rushed by high fiving everyone before looking like he was about to leave again. A couple moments later, he came back to the group. This time he stopped to interact, sign autographs and meet the fans. A fan had brought something interesting for grant to see. it was apparently 1 of the outfits Brandon Routh wore when he had the role of Superman. Since Grant is a massive Superman fan, he was pretty thrilled to see it. After that interaction I asked Grant if it was ok to get a pic with him in the suit. It was something I had discussed with him going back as far as last season, with the response being "we'll see" both times prior. I said "remember that thing we discussed the other day" he knew what I meant & said yeah, I asked "is now a good time" and he replied "sure" and he took a photo with me while he was in his Flash suit. Of course, everyone else wanted the same and he happily obliged them. That certainly made up for my prior disappointments of missing Peyton and Candice to say the least. The second day of shooting saw the cast a block away at a business tower. If you are a fan of Arrow, you may recognize it from season 2 as the lobby of Queen Consolidated. Today, it was playing the part of a general business tower in Central City somewhere.
This particular scene had 3 cast members in it. Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Wenworth Miller as Leonard Snart (aka - Captain Cold) and Michael Ironside as Lewis Snart. The scene seemed to have the Scarlet Speedster and his sometimes nemesis Captain Cold teaming up with Cold's father in some scene that had them dressed as a cleaning crew. The scene was completely shot inside, so there was not much chance for fans to see what was shot. An earlier scene deeper inside the building away from any street view was also shot with the same cast. After filming the cast left. Wentworth stopped to take photos with all the fans who patiently waited till about 1 AM for them to wrap. The Flash films scenes for the season 2 premiere in downtown Vancouver on a couple different days8/9/2015 The Flash filmed some scenes in downtown Vancouver earlier in July for the season 2 premiere.
The first day they shot scenes in a large park in the West End for "Flash Day" in Central City. I missed all the actual filming, but I did get there in time to see Carlos Valdez on lunch and meet Adam Copeland (aka Edge from WWE) who was guest starring in the episode. A couple days later, I caught up with them shooing in an alley a block from BC Place. There was very little to be seen there due to the way the alley was set up. Again Adam Copeland was on set, along with Grant Gustin dressed in his standard Flash suit with the red logo still being repped (spoiler alert for those not on the internet in the last 3 weeks and this is the first thing you are seeing... a change is coming to the logo SOON). The most interesting thing from this shoot wasn't the actors on set. It was a new prop that I'm assuming the CCPD has. As much as I love the Flash, I am a little disappointed to see them so blatantly rip off an idea from another superhero show. The Flash now has his own version of The Bat Signal. I also added a few pics of the cast of The Flash going to & returning from Comic-Con weekend. Grant, Carlos, Tom Cavanagh, Victor Garber and Candice Patton. The Flashs season 2 begins October , 2015 on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. If you have not seen this episode yet, and want to avoid any possible spoilers for it, do not continue reading or viewing any of the photos. . . . last warning . . As some of you who follow me on twitter recall, I caught The Flash shooting their penultimate episode "Rogue Air", directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, of their inagural season down at BC Place in late March a couple times. The first shoot was a stunt scene filmed at the side of B.C. Place in the early evening. It had the Reverse Flash falling from high up. The scene probably will make more sense on TV, but my guess is he falls from the top of S.T.A.R. labs, which BC Place often stands in for on exterior shoots. I also saw the stunt man for The Flash, Cody Laudan there, but did not see him partake in a stunt during my limited time there. Another man went up as well, dressed in just some stunt gear rigging. The first shoot that I saw with actors included of course the now well known, thanks to their promo pics, stand off with Arrow star Stephen Amell guest starring along side, Grant Gustin & Robbie Amell facing off against Tom Cavanagh at Terry Fox Plaza. The crew did a great job of using the statues that get larger in size of the Canadian Cancer awareness icon Terry Fox as placing spots to put a "STAR Labs" sign. While they did spend much of a night there filming this scene, not a lot seemed to be apparent from it to the rare few onlookers that stayed around till well after midnight to see the scenes shot. Besides the fact that Arrow in his Warith al Ghul outfit, The Flash & Ronnie Raymond in his Firestorm outfit were facing off against Eobard Thawne in his Reverse Flash outfit, there seemed to be very little in the way of action at this point, and any dialogue that took place happened when we were too far back to really hear it. In any case, with the earlier stunt I saw performed, and these 4 on the concourse, I am sure all hell is about to break loose in Central City. PS - Yes, I am aware many of these shots were used in a previous blog post about this episode. Just re-posting them in here for new viewers, and a couple newer ones were added. A couple days later they were back at B.C. Place shooting more exterior scenes. They started with a daytime scene that had Rick Cosnett and Candice Patton walking along at what seemed like a Central City Police Station set up. The topic of their conversation was not apparent to me at the time of the filming...but knowing what I know after the fact. It clearly revolves around Eddie Thawne's proposal to Iris west, as Iris is holding the green ring box Eddie had. From the body language of the scene, I am guessing Iris did not react with the overwhelming excitement she might have before Eddie was grabbed by Eobard. After they were done shooting, I told my friend to wait where we were, as the rest of the fans moved on to Terry Fox Plaza to see the crew set up the next scene. Eventually Rick & Candice came out where they were filming tog et into their shuttle vans, and signed for the 4 or 5 of us that were smart enough to realize what was happening. After that scene, there was prep work being done for a stunt scene that was going to happen later with Simon Burnett, the stunt man for Stephen Amell's Arrow character. The weather was at best, unpleasant that evening, and after a quick dinner at Boston Pizza, my friend & I decided to opt out of waiting around for the scene that had MANY more onlookers around for it than there was at the shoot a couple days prior. We saw Tom Cavanagh leave after rehearsals, and tried tog et him but he said he would get us when he returned.... so we waited a bit longer for him to come back. When he did, my friend & I got a couple autographs from Tom Cavanagh as he arrived to film, after the security team tried to sneak him in by driving him 50 ft up from where the crowd had huddled under the awning of the Boston Pizza. We opted to risk the wind & rain to get tom & he rewarded us for our effort. Asd we were leaving, I noticed him stop to shake hands with someone, it was Stephen Amell. We packed up our things and took off from the wind & rain that was beating down on the set by that point. The Flash is in this years May madness tournament along with Barry Allen/The Flash. The Flash autographs can be found HERE The Flash airs TONIGHT (May 12, 2015) on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. The season finale will be next Tuesday May 19, 2015. THIS BLOG MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 118 OR 119. If you have not seen these episodes and want to avoid potential mild spoilers to them. DO NOT continue reading or viewing the photos.. . . last warning . . I ran into The Flash a couple times in mid February, as they shot scenes for episode 118 (and possibly 119) The 1st set I know were for 118 as Emily Kinney and Amanda Pays were on set that day. The shoot took place at a massive business park in South Burnaby that's used by most productions at some point. The shoot was all interiors, but I can tell you I saw Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett, Tom Cavanagh along with previously mentioned 2 guest stars there that night. Uunfortunately, the location left no chances to shoot any parts of the scenes. However, meeting the cast was plausible. I went out there that day & night to meet The Walking Dead star Emily Kinney. While I did meet everyone else that was there that night, Ms. Kinney was less than receptive to meeting fans at any time I was there. Allegedly she met fans earlier in the day, but, during the 11 hrs I spent there, she never did. Even as she wrapped, and KNEW the whole TWO of us that were there were still waiting, and that she had earlier denied when she said "I just got to go to set (a small lie... she went to set 20 mins later.. after going to hair & make up, then coming back to her trailer for a few mins), so its not like she didn't know why we were there.... she speed walked from her transport vehicle, into her trailer, they speed walked from her trailer to her awaiting shuttle vehicle. I rarely take it too personally if a celeb denies signing for me. I get it. But this particular instance, I took pretty personally. She COULD have said "no" one of the 3 or 4 times prior, or even as she was leaving for the night. Instead, just left the pair of us there hanging. Classless move by her. A simple "no" would have solved everything. This episode of The Flash comes up this week. Just two days after that I found the set for The Flash 2 times that day. First up was a shoot at Victory Square with Danielle Panabaker as Caitlyn Snow and Candice Patton as Iris West and a young girl. It was hard to make out what all was going on in the scene, but it appeared the little girl was speaking quite annoyed/angrily at Iris and Caitlyn who were in a car. Unfortunately, I got there near the end of their shoot, so I never saw a lot of the scene, just 3 or 4 takes. While I was there, I saw Grant Gustin show up for reasons I do not know (he never did any scenes there...and seemingly wasn't there very long). Shortly after, the crew moved to their second location, about a 20 minute walk away at a residential area in Strathcona. At the 2nd location there was not much to see besides the actors going in or coming out of the house they were shooting at. I've been to sets like this 100X, they are pretty bland, mundane interaction experiences that don't require a lot of "security". However, this particular small, irrelevant set had more security than most high profile big budget films do. I even asked the 1 main guard what the deal was, he responded that he was just as perplexed by it as we were. There was no spoilers to be seen as they were filming indoors, the wasn't even any "special guest stars" of note to hide. This really shouldn't have been a "high security" situation, and as I pointed out to the main guard, and he seconded my observation, MOST of the security they had brought in were utterly pointless & more in the way than anything they were "guarding". I got a few pics of Rick and Grant coming out of the house 1 take, then left.... which was for the best Just as I got to the porch of my house, which was only a 8-10 minute walk away, the skies opened up and a substantially intense downpour erupted for the next 1/2 hour or so. Had I been even 2 minutes longer, I would have got soaked to the bone... so I guess the extra security and interior shoot DID something positive for me, it inspired me to leave early. The scenes on that 2nd day I believe are for episode 19, but could be 18 just because of how close it was to the filming date of the scenes that I know were for 18. Guess we'll find out soon enough. THIS POST MAY CONTAIN NOTABLE SPOILERS FOR AN EPISODE OF "THE FLASH" EITHER 116 OR 115. If you do not want to read or view possible spoilers from the episode before seeing it, do not continue reading or viewing the photos.
. . . last warning . . I ran into the hit rookie superhero show for The CW, The Flash, in downtown Vancouver a few weeks ago filming a scene for an episode (I think its 116, could be 115 though) It did not seem to have much to it from where I was watching early on. Grant Gustin as The Flash comes running down the street & comes to a skidding stop. An interesting observation on the night was how often Grant came over to meet fans & regulars alike. I counted personally 4 different times. In a day & age where celebs coming over more than once to see fans is at best abnormal, and 3 times, rare, seeing someone come over at least 4 times is in my experiences unheard of. Kudos to him. I have found him to be very hit & miss on when he comes & meets fans, but when he does he really does give a 110%. I left the set for a little while. When I returned later, I got back in time to watch the scene from the other side when they re-set the cameras and I was able to hear a bit of the going on for the scene. The Flash was looking for Cisco. Someone off camera yells at him (I only saw 1 take of it, so I wasn't prepared for it, so I didn't catch if it was Caitlyn or Iris) and the assumption would be Caitlyn, but his reaction to the inquiry of "Barry, is that you?" makes me think it could be Iris. Especially after the spoilery pics that came out earlier that day of a scene shot with Candice Patton and Grant, which I was lucky enough to see afterwards when they were re-playing it on the set randomly. I've added 1 pic of that below.... sorry its smaller than the others, I wasn't expecting what I saw & didn't have my zoom set properly. After the main cast wrapped, they did a scene with a girl with colourful hair standing on a corner looking around for something. I didn't recognize her. Never found out who it was, but they did scenes of her by herself on the corner. Obviously, there is always context to every scene that some still photos don't show. But is it possible Iris has found out Barrys secret? Also, where is Cisco? The Flash will return Tuesday March 17th after a 3 week break in the U.S. on The CW or in Canada on CTV. THIS POST CONTAINS PHOTOS & A BREIF DESCRIPTION OF SCENES SHOT FOR EPISODE 108 "THE FLASH VS ARROW" A FEW WEEKS AGO. If you have not yet seen the episode, and do not want to read or see any possible spoilers from it... please to don't continue reading the article, or viewing the photos . . . last chance . . So, as everyone reading this likely knows. Episode 8 of season 3 of Arrow, and season 1 of The Flash will be a cross over episode in which characters from both shows will be featured on each episode, starting with The Flash next Tuesday night & concluding the night after on Arrow. A few weeks ago, several scenes were shout downtown for The Flash episode, titled "The Flash VS Arrow". I intended to have some of these up sooner, and put up the final batch this week...but I got sidetracked. So, heres 1 whole megapost of pics from the 3 days of shoots. The 1st day was the only day I saw any members from Arrow on set shooting. Of course, it happened to be THE ARROW. Stephen Amell and his stunt double Simon Burnett were on the set shooting a scene with Grant Gustin & his stunt double Cody Laudan for the episode. I never really got a chance to SEE much of the scene, but it seemed to be some type of confrontation between the two heroes, which makes me think Flash VS Arrow is going to have some friction between the masked men. The next day saw scenes done in a building that featured Jesse L. Martin as Joe West. I also saw the stunt doubles of Grant Gustin & Stephen Amell around that day, but not sure what the scenes entailed since they were all indoors. On the final day, they had multiple scenes happen. First off was a scene where they had The Flash star Grant Gustin running into what seems to be the ONLY bank in Central City (and 1 that seems to have a lot of bad luck). They filmed a couple other scenes in & around the bank with guest star of the week Paul Anthony (aka Roy G. Bivolo aka - Chromo) who did a solo scene a block over earlier in the day that I'm guessing was of him getting ready to enter the bank....then he moved over to the actual bank set where he enters the bank and soon after scenes were shot where a scene like something out of the WWE Royal Rumble took place where everyone in the bank just started fighting each other. I honestly don't know what the scene will look like on camera, but from outside it looked pretty wild & funny. After the bank scene was shot. Grant Gustin poked his head out the door in his Barry Allen attire, waved at the fans standing across busy Pender Street. Then, in what has so far in the time The Flash has shot here, been a rare occurrence, a few seconds later, came back out and came across the street to meet the handful of fans before he headed off to lunch. After lunch, the crew & cast returned to a side street around the corner from the bank scene for a night stunt scene involving Grant Gustin, Rick Cosnett & Candice Patton and their stunt doubles.
The scene seems to have The Flash using his body to slow down/stop a car from hitting Eddie Thawne who was standing in the middle of the street. After Eddie jumps out of the way, The Flash comes over to him to confront detective pretty boy as Iris comes running in from the distance. This scene was an interesting one for me, because I never really thought Grant could muster up a menacing volume of speaking, but the verbal tongue lashing he put on Eddie there was quite intense. Needless to say if Iris was close enough to hear his conversation with Eddie, she would HAVE to know its Barry now after what he said, and as loud as he did. During 1 of the re-positions of the scene and equipment Grant came over to a couple of fans still waiting at the set in the early hours of the morning. He briefly chatted with them, but said he couldn't take photos while in the suit. I asked him if he could once the show airs (it had not aired yet) and he said "maybe".... so far, I haven't had the chance to test that. Shortly after, we were moved back further & I felt there was not much more I probably would see worth sticking around at such a late hour & went home. The Flash is currently up for several BEST OF TV AWARDS 2014 going on right now HERE. The Flash airs Tuesday nights on The CW in the U.S. and CTV in Canada. The Flash/Arrow cross over episodes will air December 2nd for The Flash, December 3rd for Arrow. Better late than never, right? Back in August THE FLASH shot a few scenes for an upcoming episode that I BELIEVE is tonights, or next weeks judging by when it was shot. The scene didn't have much to describe since a crew member felt it was their goal in life to block off the entire scene from public viewing despite no cast or crew complaining even once about me prior to him doing so. I can confirm Grant Gustin as Barry Allen did a few scenes in the Flash suit, and later did scenes with Candice Patton. His stunt man Cody Laudan also did scenes as The Flash. THE FLASH returns tonight after its 1 week hiatus for the U.S. mid-term elections on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada. The Flash is nominated for several awards including Best New Show at the 2014 Best Of TV Awards taking place now thru early January 2015 Here. |
