The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 517, directed by Rob Greenlea, on Cambie Street, across from Victory Square (Flash fans probably know Victory Square better as the place Savitar kills Iris) in the early part of the day. The crew then moved in to an alley just off Hamilton Street on the other side of the square in downtown Vancouver. The daytime scenes were interesting, although a casual passer by might not have known why (to be honest, I did not either right away). A scene was shot in the morning with the stunt team showing a couple going up to an ATM before it explodes on them, sending the pair flying thru the air. This scene really seemed to have no importance when you see it JUST as the way they filmed it. But later, when they moved to shooting a scene in a minivan you realize why this scene is so interesting. The couple gets out of the minivan, heads to the ATM, and after the accident, a small girl in the minivan screams...... if you have been watching this season much then you are probably already connecting the dots. The young girl in the minivan is of course Islie Hirvonen, better known as Grace Gibbons, the niece of Cicada. It is then clear that what we were watching is the scene where Grace sees her parents get killed. But why? how? Thats a mystery we will have to wait and see. I did not really photograph the couple because I thought they were going to have more work to do, and was waiting for a better angle to appear. Instead, the production re-set with a close tight view of the minivan to capture Graces reaction. I managed to snag 1 photo of Islie after she completed her shooting, and was waiting to get picked up to go back to the trailers. Shortly after this scene ended, a different scene at the ATM took place with a mystery woman in a hoodie. This woman went up, and used the ATM without consequences. Was this to show that not everyone had a problem with the machine? Or, was this woman the reason the machine became a problem for Graces parents? They then filmed scenes where a leaf blower was shooting money through the air. After that short scene, they started filming with main cast. Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora West-Allen shot scenes outside the same ATM machine where the trio seem to be investigating the machine. Cisco at one point seems to vibe the machine, and seems mortified by what he sees. After a couple hours of filming that scene, they wrapped that location, with Jessica & Grant getting wrapped for the day. I managed to get a few Grant Gustin autographs as he left the set, I asked him how he liked working in the Green Arrow costume compared to his own. He said he loved it (he has benn pretty open about how much he dislikes the way his own suit feels), said it was like "working in pyjamas". I then got Carlos Valdes shortly after, as Carlos was walking over to the next location, his day was not done. I tried asking him about the rumour he might be leaving the show, and his reply to it was simply "I'm not the writers", suggesting that it isnt up to him, as much as if the writers decide he is done. The crew went on lunch break after having Carlos and Hartley Sawyer do a quick run through of the scene they were going to do after lunch. After the lunch break, the sun was gone, and it was time to shoot some night scenes. Carlos and Hartley came back from lunch, but they were not dressed in the attire they did the run through in. Instead Hartley was now dressed as Elongated Man, and Carlos was dressed as........ VIBE. Yes, you read that right, by episode 17, Cisco is able to go out dressed as Vibe again. So I am guessing Cicada finds out the truth by then. The pair shoot a scene in an alley where they seem to notice something off to the side of them, and then go towards it. Also, a scene was shot where it appears that Cisco creates a portal and they go thru it. During one unusually longer than usual break between takes, Carlos started dancing in the alley, and it went on for several minutes, while Hartley joined in occasionally a couple times for a few seconds. After Hartley left, I called it a night. So I dont know what might have been filmed after that. Carlos still seemed to be there. Could there be a Vibe VS Cicada scene? Or perhapswe see Vibe doing some solo work? We will all just have to wait and see I guess. The Flash airs on The CW in the U.S. on Tuesdays. It is on Netflix the day after the episode airs in most, or all countries. The Flash shoots scenes with Grant Gustin, Danielle Panabaker, Chris Klein & the stunt team1/26/2019 ![]() THIS BLOG POST IS FOR A "THE FLASH" SEASON 5 EPISODE, AND MAY CONTAIN POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 515 or 516 (I think 16) in an alley just off Granville Street in downtown Vancouver. It's an alley they have used OFTEN. So often, I knew exactly where they were going to bring cast in, and hold them etc. They've been in this alley pretty often. While they were setting up the scene that would be shot first, Chris Klein dressed as Cicada, and Danielle Panabaker dressed up as Killer Frost showed up, and almost walked right thru the crowd of lookie loos, before being turned around by a crew member towards where they were supposed to go. I always can tell what type of "fans" there are at a set by who they recognize.... and this was a perfect example. Danielle, in full KF wardrobe got within about 5 feet of a crowd of 20+ people, and NOT ONE noticed. Clear example that these weren't fans, as much as they were clubbers, stopping by to gawk at all the Hollywood magic going on so they could get instagram likes later. The crew then worked on a car for about 10 minutes, quite literally sawing thru it, so that when they did a stunt later, it would have the desired effect wanted for it. That stunt, saw The Flash stunt double Cody Laudan dropped from about 30-50 feet in the air, into the car, blowing out all the windows, and leaving a massive person sized dent in it. Cody then shot scenes where he just stayed in the dent, almost motionless, as Cicada does his little up, up & away move with his dagger and leaves. During breaks, you would sometimes see the Cicada double talking to Chris, and seemingly showing him how moves should be done. You see this type of stuff a lot on sets, but this time, it seemed like he was doing it a LOT more than others. For a brief while, Danielle was on set as Killer Frost, but I never really saw what her role in the scene was. For much of the evening, the main stars were not really around when I saw them shooting. It was primarily the stunt team, and Chris Klein shooting. A little later, Danielle took off from set, and stopped to take photos with the half dozen or so fans who actually KNEW who she was. A little while later, Grant Gustin showed up in his Flash attire. He then took over from the spot Cody had been in for the last hour. I always feel a little bad for Cody & the other stunt people when I see them do things like they did for Grant, where they had a ladder brought in for him to get up onto the car with, while Cody just had to climb up onto this just recently smashed up car, and climb off it on his own. The crew then shot the same scenes, this time with Grant laying there. A little while later, Grant would leave, and Danielle would come back to do her work. The set up in the alley made it tough to see anything, so I called it a night at that point, and headed home. So I cant really say what happened between Killer Frost and Cicada in this scene. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 515 or 516 in downtown Vancouver for 3 days this week. While little could be seens Wednesday or Friday because the locations were up on parkades. Thursday, the crew was right out on West Georgia Street shooting scenes for the episode. When I first got there, I instantly hear the director blurting out instructions in the scene that had no cast at the time. What caught my attention was the part of "and thats when/where King Shark lands". That is right, he is back. King Shark will be in this episode..... but thats not where this spoiler ends. After what seemed like forever, they finally did a couple more takes, with another tidbit getting dropped shortly after as I heard "Grodd is fighting, and thats when/where King Shark lands". It took me almost no time to realize... this is the King Shark VS Gorilla Grodd fight Nora had alluded to earlier this season. The evening didnt produce a lot of action to see. In fact, I cant even be entirely certain if there was any actors taking the places of Grodd & Shark. I THOUGHT I saw one for Shark on the first take, but I never confirmed it in later shoots. They also didnt do a lot of takes of the scene, even though there wasnt a lot going on in it. Probably a mistake on their behalf, as not long after, a torrential downpour would come A little while later, Grant Gustin as The Flash and Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS were on set doing a scene where they were clearly engaging with 1, or both, of the mutant animals. The speedsters came prepared for a fight with Grodd it seemed, as they had some device on their heads that had ear muffs, and 2 red lights on it.Again, like the earlier scene... no action really took place, just the pair of speedsters standing in the street staring in the same direction saying something. A little while later, Grant left the set for the evening. Signing a few autographs for people, and taking a couple photos with, before going home. Unsure if JPK was still working. The weather was so miserable, I felt it best to call it an evening at that point. They proceeded to film out there for a couple more hours. No clue what/who might have filmed afterwards. The combination of terrible weather, darkness, and filming on 1 of the busiest streets in downtown Vancouver made taking photos very challenging. I quite literally only got 1 set of shots of Grant facing me in the hour or so I stood out there, and the 1 I posted was really the best of the bunch as I was shooting between a passing truck and bus, so the camera didnt really have time to focus fully in on him. The Flash was shooting scenes for episode 510 in downtown Vancouver a couple months ago in front of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. When I got there, I realized quickly there was no main cast on set. Instead, I got 1 mystery woman (at that time) doing scenes where she steals a car from a man who is being questioned by a cop. In the scene, she simply just walks up behind the car owner while the cop is right there questioning him, and gets in and drives away before the owner pointlessly tries to chase after her. I asked on twitter if anyone knew who the woman was, and got no solid answers.... so it remained a mystery, until the episode synopsis came out. I now know the woman to be Gabrielle Walsh (The Vampire Diaries, Shameless), and she is playing the character Silver Ghost, who has meta tech abilities that make it so she can operate motorized items. She had a stunt double to do all the driving scenes. A little later they moved to another location down the street. The car was there when I got there, but they had not yet started filming. A little while later Cody Laudan, the double for The Flash showed up. They set up for a scene where he was going to be chasing after the car. It was kind of cold that day, and I wasnt feeling up to waiting it out, so I left before they actually shot any of the scenes. A bit later in the day Grant Gustin arrived to film, as I found out from a post a fan put on twitter of him meeting grant there. As October got under way, so did the annual DC TV universe crossover event that they have done for the past few seasons. This year, only 3 of their 4 shows are taking part, with Legends Of Tomorrow taking a pass on this one. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up for the event. On this particular day, they filmed several scenes in downtown Vancouver for"The Flash". During this video, we see the cast between takes, as Melissa Benoist is standing around, she hears something funny. Grant Gustin dressed as the Green Arrow is busy getting input from the director on what he wants from Grant in the scene. While Stephen Amell makes a very short cameo on the far right side of the screen later on in the video. Apologies for the occasional interruptions from traffic, and the blurriness at times as the camera tried to re-focus. They were shooting this on West Georgia Street, which is a major thoroughfare thru the downtown core & we were unlawfully denied the right to stand on the same side of the street they were filming on, so I had to shoot this from across a 6 lane street. But there was very little of the same. - (will fill in scene details later when time permits) Grant Gustin was dressed as the Green Arrow, Stephen Amell was dressed as The Flash, Melissa Benoist was there as Supergirl, and Tyler Hoechlin was there..... dressed in his traditional red & blue Superman attire, which after the spoiler photo Stephen posted earlier this week, was a mild surprise to me. On this particular day, they filmed several scenes in downtown Vancouver for"The Flash". I didnt see every scene shot, because some of them were happening while I was checking on other things at set. But heres a list of what I do recall. - Green Arrow bike riding stunt. Ends with GA being thrown thru the air. - Green Arrow (Grant Gustin) does a scene where he is on a built up table that he had to use a ladder to get onto. He starts laying down on it, then pops up into the sitting position before making a move that I think might have been drawing his bow. - The Flash (Stephen Amell) does a scene where he seemingly just darts away. I didnt have the best angle for it. I also saw Daniel Cudmore there on stilts at that time.... but I dont believe he was filming in that specific scene, or if he was, it was completely out of my view. - Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) shoots a scene where she lands down on the ground, then gets up and stares (probably heat vision?) at something taller than her, I BELIEVE Daniels character, as I saw him around there at that time. - Green Arrow on roof. First with stunt man, then later briefly with Grant. Scene sees GA shooting his bow at something or someone. - The Flash, Superman and Supergirl team up to fight Daniels character. Hes now down at their level, and the two Supes are holding an arm each while Flash is holding him from behind. They did this with the stunts team first, then Stephen and Tyler Hoechlin did the scene with Supergirls stunt double. - Somewhere in the mix was a scene with The Flash running out of the way as Green Arrow was riding in on his motorcycle. But I was busy with something else when that scene took place. Grant Gustin was dressed as the Green Arrow, Stephen Amell was dressed as The Flash, Melissa Benoist was there as Supergirl, and Tyler Hoechlin was there..... dressed in his traditional red & blue Superman attire, which after the spoiler photo Stephen posted earlier this week, was a mild surprise to me. Also in the photo set, Jensen Ackles from the TV show "Supernatural" who came by to visit with Stephen, and watched a bit of Grant shooting a scene up on a roof top. The day included a bike stunt, as well as a superhero team up scene where Flash, Supergirl & Superman try to defeat an Amazo played by Daniel Cudmore.
